    People need to talk about this field more, theres not enough grads coming out of school. Nurses and MDs have the prestige, but I don't even know about nursing anymore. People are leaving in the droves. Plus it just sounds like grueling, horrible work. YES TO MLS. 🌸✨

    Thank you for putting so much actual information in your videos unlike most people. I do have a question why is it that hospitals always complain about not having employees but they never hire anyone?

    I am in nursing school first semester and I have anxiety every morning when I have to take my exams. I am just dreading nursing school and just not very into patient care and just the whole nursing duties I can't imagine myself doing. I Just don't know if I am making a mistake to push through it or should I just withdraw at this point. I love learning about the cells and just being able to have my own space when it comes to nursing its big on team collab.
    can someone please give an advice suggestion . I am not getting any younger an do not want to waste anymore time .

    Thanks so much for your informative videos! The Q & A one was extremely helpful too :) I'm just beginning my schooling for MLT and I really wish as an introvert I had known about this career sooner (like decades sooner). I'm curious how you got into traveling MLT?? Did you work/gain experience somewhere first before taking a position like that or was that your first job as an MLT? Thanks!

  • @MadSeason50

    I’ve been an MLT for 19 years. 14 of which were in a hospital lab. I love my job but could do without the disrespect of the MLT vs MT. I had plenty of time and opportunity to get my BSN but have no desire to work in management. I also don’t want loans to pay back so I am ok with being a MLT. But the disrespect that comes from my own lab leadership is awful.

    It's fun! I agree with you 100% because I'm a medical lab tech in South Korea. Especially I have to request nurses to recollect blood samples everyday and they don't understand they didn't collect correctly the sample.

    • @derekaray
      @derekaray  2 года назад +1

      Congrats on the new job! Currently no, I do not have to process bone marrow. Every hospital is a little different. Where I work now the phlebotomists collect the bone marrow, the lab techs stain the slides, and the pathologist review the slides.

      Unfortunately yes! You will encounter people outside of the lab tend to look down on lab techs. I have experienced this a few times and learned to stand up for myself.

      It helps to go straight to the agency that gives licensure to practice. That way you know the schools program is legitimate. Theres about 8 programs that offer Medical Lab Technician none in Chicago proper but maybe these are close enough to commute to. Good luck! www.naacls.org/Find-a-Program.aspx

    • @amethyst5393
      @amethyst5393 3 года назад +1

      Usually over the 📞 phone, unless the nurse needs to come get blood.. the only time they may interact with the doctor is if they come to lab and usually that’s not good.. lol they may had labs pending for a few hours on a critical patient but all in all the phone!!
