This video was filmed in my child hood home and garden. We moved out in 1985 and World Party moved in the following year as squatters and used my parents bedroom as a recording studio. Sinéad was on backing vocals.
Hi Allexander …… you know it would have been cooler probably if we had squatted but I actually moved in with the estates’ s sponsored artist/housekeeper and bunged them a bit of cash every week. Also I moved in in late 85 - just know that because the album I did there came out in UK in 86!! Even though we didn’t have any money we always tried to look after the place…… a special place. I nearly took it on in a deal they offered - a five year do-up period and then a peppercorn rent for twenty years but I only wanted the freehold. We all moved away and then the biker/squatters appeared and put the fab kitchen shelves into the fire and pretty much started to wreck the house. The estate sold it to a couple eventually who spent some money on it!! I will always be such a special place and a special time fo me and my life and work. I hope you have great memories too!!! *********************** PS. In one of the top floor bedrooms every spring it was filled with what turned into a carpet of flies!!! Like a strange horror film!! Did it do that when you lived there??? Bit of a ‘The Shining’ vibe!!
Hi Karl-your reply has blown my mind. I’m so honoured that you took the time to reply. I corrected the date just before I saw your reply, so apologies, also for the squatter reference-you are correct of course. Sadly my mother left her wedding dress and photo slides amongst other things and they disappeared. I must mention that in 1986 I finished school and went to LA for 6 months and while there watched MTV avidly and saw this incredible video and our house and cedar tree and was blown away! It’s so ironic that last week Saturday I was invited to the house across from where the cedar tree stood and we talked about you, your video and Sinead only to hear the ghastly news a few days later. I loved the Old Rectory so much and yes, I remember the ghastly fly invasions. Thank you for the memories and I have just purchased a copy of Ship of Fools and seen the drawing of the cedar tree and house on the slip cover. Just love it. Who designed it? I bought all your singles by the way, but rarely bought albums. I hope you are well and still recording. Are you in Wales? My sister lives in Llancloudy.
That’s such a shame about the squatters and an even bigger shame that you didn’t get the freehold. We wanted it too and I think it was valued at £80,000 in 1985! Worth a fortune today.
@@alexandergrosvenor7078 There was another beautiful thing that happened there. The nesting of the white doves!! About 12 doves lived in the roof. Used to do a mass fly around in the late afternoon - we used to say they were the souls of the nuns who used to live there! It was certainly a special place!! It really affected my life working and living there….. will always. mean such a lot to me!!
I love the positive energy but it’s actually a very serious message because it’s so true. Change comes from within. You cannot change others. We can only change ourselves. We can only plant the seed and hope they can follow. Listen to change by Tears for Fears. You can change! I was a DJ for 12 years. Maybe this just didn’t get enough airplay
Jay Garrett most underrated band of all time! How can he not have a contract when you see what's out there?? Too Smart and can't be manipulated, probably!
Saw World Party on the Bang! tour. They were outstandingly good. Really tight and there was something about havIng Chris Sharrock on drums that have them an edgier sound. I love all their albums for different reasons, moods and periods in my life. They should have been huge and I sincerely believe that the fact they were not says all you need to know about the industry. Will we learn to make love to the World?
We'll all be dead and long gone, but World Party will sound like these songs were written yesterday in a hundred years from now. Much like Creedence. Or Petty. This music is timeless. I consider myself to be lucky to have 'gotten it' when it came out. Karl Wallinger wasn't appreciated as much as he should've been. A truly great artist.
I fell in love with this song in Nov. Dec 1986, when this video started playing on MTV. Plus it's was the holidays, so my mood was up then. Plus this sound was different. Great memories. Sadly it didn't touch the the Top 40 like Ship of Fools did a few months later in 1987.
I saw World Party at a nightclub in Birmingham in 1987 when they were promoting Private Revolution. It was a great gig in an intimate setting. I love that album; can't believe it was 35 years ago!
World Party' is one the greatest debut albums ever! The title song out-Princes' Prince! I'm so lucky to see WP several times. Amazing band. I caught a surprise show in Boston after they opened for 10k Maniacs at Great Woods. At a dive called Bunrattys. It was NUTS!! They covered The Whos' Won't Get Fooled Again! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME! I will never forget that shit eating smile Karl Wallinger wore that night. Unforgettable! THIS REALLY SUCKS. What an amazing artist. So soon after losing Mojo Nixon doesn't help.
Colin Jones You mean, Sine-Aid O'Connor? I remembered a old SNL skit with Joe Piscopo, as Frank Sinatra, & Sting as Billy Idol, but I forgot who played O'Connor.
Karl, Mr. Wallinger, is sooo talented! When Mick Jagger drops dead, here’s Karl! Coffin sale: Every. One. Must. Go. Karl looks like the type to fill in the gap!
+Serena Laws If the message in the box doesn't get the Bern to fight the ship of fools then the green light gets the go. At least that's what I think Wallinger might have foreseen...
Unfortunately, the Red light, the Blue light, and the Greens light are all failing. If you want a revolution, there's nothing like your own. I joined the World Party.
RIP my brother. As a young person, I really took his message to heart. Thank you world and Thank you Karl.

Rest in Power Sinead. The world lost an icon today.
She's rockin' it with Dolores O'Riordan now 🫀☘️🇮🇪
Sad to hear of his passing. Great band. Saw them in 87 I think it was. This was a great single I'd not heard in yrs! Still got it smwhere on 12inch.
World Party and Karl Wallinger’s music speaks so powerfully to the times we are in even after all these years.
So true. Ship of Fools is so damn relevant now. I feel even more so than at the time if its release.
Truth is timeless. I love his music!
All of his stuff is awesome
Godspeed Karl. Thank you for sharing your incredible musical talents.
I have a soft spot for world party ever since hearing Ship of fools - and this is such an upbeat and happy song : )
I love that song soooooo much
The Same For Me,, But Before That With "All Come True"..Then Bought The Album & Loved The Whole Thing.

The song, the band and Karl was pivotal in my life back in the 80's and I have never stopped playing Private Revolution....
Most underrated album of it's time.
Jay Garrett most underrated band of all time! How can he not have a contract when you see what's out there?? Too Smart and can't be manipulated, probably!
Absolutely
You could very well be correct.
First date with wife back in 85 came home and heard WORLDPARTY for first time and both got me for life!
The '80s...what a magical fun decade.
Sinead looks so happy in this video.
‘Cause she wasn’t famous yet
@@flanalan she wasnt tainted by the industry yet
Some things age very well.👌
RIP, Karl. So sad. He was great.
Love this song, video too.
Such talent! Things of quality have no fear of time.
"Things of quality have no fear of time". That, my friend, is the most profound statement I've heard in long time.
Saw World Party on the Bang! tour. They were outstandingly good. Really tight and there was something about havIng Chris Sharrock on drums that have them an edgier sound. WOW! When music videos were inventive and fun!! I certainly miss those days!!
Can't explain this music, it's so ahead of it's time.

Great tune from a great album... take a bow Mr Wallinger... brilliant
Fly high Karl... Massive talent ..

WTF......Sinead O’Conor is the backing vocal!!!
In 2021 Greenville added this song to both radio stations the jam 133.7 and kz 104.3

Back when MTV played music videos - ONLY!
Condolences Karl. Love to you from Minneapolis.
Beautiful! I will always remember this and the time of my life! Thank you!
I always thought the lead sounded like Mick Jagger. He still does.
It’s like Bob Dylan and Prince had a baby...
Ha..all musiscicans r influenced..
Spot on.
Karl started in The Waterboys. Saw World Party in Chicago at the Park West circa 1987.
I saw World Party at a nightclub in Birmingham in 1987 when they were promoting Private Revolution. It was a great gig in an intimate setting. I love that album; can't believe it was 35 years ago!
Wow RIP to Karl and Sinead. I remember this song but didn’t realise that Sinead O’Connor was doing backing vocals.
World Party' is one the greatest debut albums ever! The title song out-Princes' Prince! I'm so lucky to see WP several times. Amazing band. Was priviledged to see them play Seabird Island, BC 1996...yes, revolutionize at home.
Good to see Sinead O'Connor got her start somewhere!!!!
Remember these rascals when i lived in NYC was blown away how they are not MASSIVE is madness 🤷♂️🙏

The beat and repeated riffs are like a Prince song.
I hope Karl and Sinead are singing together again in heaven.
R.I.P. Karl Wallinger.
Still awesome in 2023.
Empires are build with music like this!!
This was the song and video that hooked me into WP and the creative, magnificent mind of Karl Wallinger
Change the world by changing yourself
Yep
I like how this song is almost an "answer" to Ship of Fools
Timeless talent
World Party was and is critic's choice music. Smart stuff.
Excellent, excellent music. Thank you. 💝🎶🌟
Loved this song since I was a kid, reminds me of Bob Dylan 😢
So many good songs!
Thanks for uploading...love this Album
3:00 R.I.P. Sinead 😔
RIP Sinead O’Connor
I'm doing that robot dance on a chair in front of my boss after I tell him I quit
A year later, how did it go?
I'm glad RUclips last time I heard this on radio was 80s
Golly, I bought this record when it came out. I got it because I was already a fan of the waterboys. Golly that was so long ago!
MUSIC is AGELESS. ......ENJOY 😎
Still have an original 45, still a great song today
Incredible!!!!!!!!!
Suaimhneas síoraí, Sinéad. (Rest in peace)
Robotic dancing back-up singer looks familiar
Ya think? 😂 (assuming sarcasm and that you know Sinead O’Connor by sight)

He looks a bit like young Bob Dylan, sounds a bit like young Mick Jagger.
5keeper7ful I think he looks like John Lennon a bit too
yep i got ya
Is that Sinead O'Connor???
Yes tis sinead o , connor was guest artist on his first two records with world party
All you have to do is watch her dance, and there should be no doubt at all period.
Watch her sing and move in Wobble's Visions of You.
Colin Jones You mean, Sine-Aid O'Connor?
I remembered a old SNL skit with Joe Piscopo, as Frank Sinatra, & Sting as Billy Idol, but I forgot who played O'Connor.
Jan Hooks played Sinead O'Connor
R.i.p karl and sinead!
Cool song.
Call me crazy but when I first heard this in the 80's, I thought Mick Jagger released a new solo lol
Just found out Karl Wallinger past in March this year. What a shame!!
He was a great artist & musician.
Both Karl and Sinead should be in
Heaven!!!!!
This song could have been a hit.
"If you wanna have a revolution baby, try one of your own"
Karl, Mr. Wallinger, is sooo talented!
When Mick Jagger drops dead, here’s
Karl! Coffin sale: Every. One. Must. Go.
Karl looks like the type to fill in the gap!

I think right before Sinead broke. Remember the video. Wonder who was hitting?
She stole my moves

Rare song...bad ass

Now, I understand (the Big Purple children's TV dinosaur) Barney's inspiration. Sinead, I think I like you better tearing up pix-O-Popes.
