  • Saving your cherry tomato seeds is not hard! In this video, I show you how to save your heirloom cherry tomato seeds, all the way from picking off the vine to sealing in a dry plastic bag. Much the same as saving your larger beefsteak tomato seeds, saving cherry tomato seeds for next year involves seed collection, fermentation, rinsing, drying, and then storing.
    It is a very simple process and takes 2 weeks, with most of the time fermenting and wait for the seeds to be ready for drying. It saves money, but it also ensures that you are getting the best tomatoes from the best varieties that grow the best in YOUR garden!

    The skewer trick made fast work of getting the tiny seeds out of some yellow cherry tomatoes I was gifted. Can’t wait to plant next year.

    Hi,Great video. I was wondering would waxed parchment (baking parchment) paper do as well for drying seeds on? Cheers

    Thanks.. sounds silly but our senior dog passed away recently and he loved tomato’s. Before passing he left us some cherry tomato sprouts in the yard and they are growing like crazy and I’d like to save some of the seeds for the silly memory

    I can't believe how the little tomatoes simply explode everywhere if you don't relieve the pressure on their skin! Seeds and guts everywhere!

    I'm going to do this with my pinocchio dwarf cherry tomato plant! I'm just starting to pick ripe tomatoes. They are so cute! They are bright orange! The seeds were so expensive for only a few on Amazon so I want to harvest as many seeds as I can. Thank you!

    Thank you for the video! I tried out your method, but after the 10 days were up I found that most of my tomato seeds had actually sprouted. Do you know where I may have gone wrong?

    Great video. 👍Do you have to ferment every type of seeds you want to harvest? Like peas, etc.

      Thanks! Definitely not. Tomato seeds develop this weird hairy coating on them and really respond well to the fermentation to clean off the bits of fruit. Other seeds don't have that problem... They can just be dried out normally and stored in a cool, dark, dry place. Cheers!

    Hello What are your thoughts on saving the tomato seeds in the fridge for the winter? Thank you

    Hello - fascinating hearing about the fermenting... When you say you washed the fermenting tomatoes during the 10 days, was that over the 10 days or did you rinse them three times on the last day?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  2 года назад +2

      Hi Anna, I rinse them on the last day. I just let them sit and totally ferment for a week to a week and a half. :-)

    How do you save seeds for fruit trees? Or is it just as easy as throwing them in the dirt to grow?

  • @BeardSupreme

    Hi....where did you store them for the fermenting process? Is glass ok and ahould it be covered?
