- For this episode Robert Plant has chosen a song he recorded with Jimmy Page and Rainer Ptacek in 1997 entitled ‘Rude World’. Rainer was a hugely talented cult guitar hero with a unique blues folk style. This track features on a compilation dedicated to him called ‘The Inner Flame’ which also included contributions from PJ Harvey, Madeleine Peyroux, Evan Dando and Emmylou Harris (which illustrates just how great Rainer was). I was a lucky girl who got to see him in concert in 85 and what an awesome concert!
Saw him in 85 as well at riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati !

I grew up with acoustic bluegrass I heard family members playing that could send a person into a different world.
When I was a little older the music of Led Zep sounded like the music I grew up with but powered up to a ridiculous degree.

Robert, I met you and the boys in Seattle, June 1972 Edgewater. I was with a girlfriend. Seems like just 10 years ago. I was 16. You were such a polite soulful eyed man. I'm glad you are still thriving. It keeps me going. GOD BLESS YOU.
@@luvwings If I were being rude, I would have asked if SHE was involved in the incident. Everyone who knows about Led Zeppelin knows what happened at the Edgewater in 1972. I actually met Robert Plant in 1985 and my best friend made out with him, so no offense meant to groupies.
@@avalondreaming1433 no offense taken. The famous episode of LZ happened before I was there. We were "picked up" by roadies and taken backstage in Portland Oregon. The roadies picked us up in a truck at my house in Vancouver Washington and drove us to Seattle for 2 concerts if I remember correctly. It was a wonderful experience but no sharks or damage that I saw.

So glad you did an episode on this song. I remember purchasing The Inner Flame when it came out, having heard that Plant and Page had done a song for it. That was my entry into the music of Rainer Ptacek, a singular presence on the wide horizon of blues music. But the interpretation of Rude World on the album is brilliant. Page's guitar work is a fine example of minimalist power, with a fierce but cautious riff and a superbly distorted sound. All the tracks on that album are splendid.

You are a excellent interviewer by allowing interviewee feel comfortable it seems to me. I guess easy for me to say. Robert still has a lot to offer music and is a pleasure to hear his views on music and himself. As a musician from the mid sixties I don’t play any longer but I do still go down to my basement to practice and listen to music. Wonderful job. These interviews are gems.

And then Plant talked about God for a half hour..
I like to think of myself as quite intelligent, not as a brag but just as a description. When I discovered Zeppelin at around 12 or 13, unfortunately just after the end of it, what really started to strike me was the intellect in the lyrics. Clearly, not all of them, but some that were just astounding. All of my love, with tides as a euphemism for time wearing on something, of course Achilles, and so many others.
Beyond the music and the glory vocally, the lyrics have been unmatched by others, of course continuing in your solo work. Thank you
