    When I got the Fast Intentions cat back TDX x-pipe for my 370Z I had the option of going with either an 18" resonator after the crossover or none and either a 14" muffler(really another resonator) or a 10" muffler. I went with the 18" resonator and the 14" Carbon Fiber muffler and I'm glad that I did. The resonators act as acoustic low-pass filters and bypass and attenuate the high frequency harmonics, accentuating the low frequency fundamental that sounds strong and powerful. At cruising speeds the sound is not that much louder than stock but when I goose the throttle, on a downshift or on acceleration, there is an initial low-pitched bark followed by a sustained moan that sounds good.
    So my recommendation is to not remove resonators that are not restrictive to the exhaust flow, unless the loud rasp is something you really want.

    I've always just used washers between the flanges right before the muffler to create a gap as more of a muffler-bypass. And with washers, you can fine-tune how loud you want it by using more or less washers for a smaller or larger gap.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios

      Not really a fan of that. It’s just creating an exhaust leak.

    Would the Borla 400286 work if I had the hemholtz axleback exhaust? I have this axleback but I absolutely love the SCS exhaust. So I'm planning on doing something similar, minus adding the flow master resonators. I would keep my hemholtz exhaust. Would this make since? 🤔

    I remember seeing an axle back short tail muffler delete for the 370Z from AAM that looked good that I had considered as a low cost option for modifying my exhaust. There was a RUclips clip by an enthusiast who did his Nismo Z and it sounded pretty good. An added benefit is that you drop a good amount of weight off the rear end by dumping that heavy muffler on the 370Z. My Fast Intentions cat back is about 15 lbs less than the stock exhaust system.

    Hey SCS, I plan on buying a 3.0t Q50 soon and wanted to plan for an exhaust. I watched your videos on the SCS custom dual exhaust and was planning on building a full 3" exhaust. I also found a great deal on full catted 2.5" downpipes, and was wondering how I could make the two work together. Is there a specific gasket or flange? I also plan on tuning the car as well.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  2 года назад

      Everything from the video is the same. Your downpipes are going to be 2.5” so you’ll still want a 2.5” flange to connect. You may need to get a 2.5 to 3” adapter or an exhaust shop can make one pretty easily.
      If you’re planning on tuning, and don’t mind a little louder setup, I’d just go with an x pipe rather than the borla or magnaflow and just use the flow fx resonators to refine the note a bit.
