Bless Paul's heart. Had a serious battle with throat cancer but frankly I think his mechanical voice sounds just like him, just a little scratchier than normal. Maybe our old Paul Blinkhorn with laryngitis. Hang in there Paul. Glad to see you back.
Ditto!
If you were honest, you'd admit that it sounds nothing like him.
I was shocked and happy to hear how much his voice sounded like his voice before his health issues. Happy he his back. great episode!
@@maxsdad538It does sound something like his original voice, which is unexpected, since most post cancer surgery trach voices sound really artificial. I wouldn't say it sounds nothing like him
Amazingly like his old self 👏🥰
So happy Time Team is back and rolling along like no time has passed at all. Everyone is a little older, greyer, wiser, but their love of history and genuine friendship with each other is unchanged. Mick would be overjoyed to see the Tempus Grex still bringing to light the wonders of history.
Ha! I'd forgotten about "tempus grex". Glad to be reminded.
I love Helen Geake. She's absolutely adorable and so full of knowledge. Glad to see the old team is back.
Yes, as do I, she has a plain, natural beauty.
Fan-boy alert!! 🚨
Me too 😍
@@dawnzed2891 I do the same thing. I go to street view and satellite view to look for crop marks and earthworks. Lol
Professor Jaquie Mc Kinley's brilliance never ceases to amaze me. This lady is one of our National treasures, in my opinion. Fathomless knowledge through years of experience. Unbeatable.
Very knowledgeable!
(Love her rings she was wearing.)
@@sylviajones4907 I always think her necklaces are beautiful.
Great to see Paul back again, whole TT crew minus Tony and Phil and the ones we have lost, truly heartwarming!
Tony’s involved in this season though.
I know he is, but not seen yet, hoping he will popup in the next 2 episodes
Came here to say this! Great to see Paul on screen with the Team again!
@@joakimjohansson6863Tony won’t be in this one, but he will for the Band of Brothers WWII special.
Loving seeing you all again.
Hello from Malta. A great start and good to see Paul Blinkhorn back as part of the team after his health issues.
Just come back from Malta/ Gozo, you have some wonderful ancient sites over there too!
Helen Geake is so precious. I adore her with my whole heart.
Completely in love with thge new Time Team. I can hardly wait for Day 2. So happy to see so many from the original taking part. Including wonderful Paul Blinkhorn. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
It shows that it’s a passion for them; for sure.
I can’t tell you the joy that this programme brings me. Thank you to all involved in reviving an absolutely fantastic show. In a world of Love Island and other plastic fantastic rubbish, it’s such a relief to view something educational, gripping and fascinating. I say this as a 30 something year old who fondly remembers Time Team as a child, (not a 70 something year old reminiscing about about days gone by!)
Well Sir, as a 60 something ruminating about the days of Mick & Phil, I say good on you for appreciating the wonders of discovery! History is filled with old aged teachers forever lecturing on the past. Pay attention, learn from these masters, and pay your dues. Maybe one future date will find you trying to pass on your hard earned knowledge to enlighten youngsters with short attention spans. May you accomplish this with the passion and love of history these teachers lavished upon you.
@@jamestaylor2920As a 72 year old former teacher, social scientist and liver of history, I couldn’t agree more. And, as a student of history and human behavior, days gone by are vital to understand history, unless you want to repeat what is worst in human behavior and learn from what is best.
Big hug for Helen. It was so beautiful to see her emotion after that first find. I can hardly wait until tomorrow.
Really appreciate Dr Casely-Hayford's presenting, I think he's great. It must have been difficult taking over the role from Tony!
Soooo happy to see Paul Blinkhorn!
Paul! We've missed you! We are all so happy you are back and feeling better!
Simply one of the most historically educational programs ever seen anywhere. If you're new to Time Team go back and watch all 20 years, you'll learn more from that than you ever did in any classroom.
Very true
I love how Helen Geake was so worried about not having found anything, while they had already uncovered a burial. So many Time Team episodes were just finding stains in the ground and I still loved those episodes too. This dig has already over delivered, looking forward to episode 2!
Agreed! Really interesting observation by Helen, though... A lot of pressure indeed bringing in not just the experts & excavators but all the film & support crew too! I feel like the old TT format (with Tony often over-dramatically moaning about how they'd "found nothing", in the face of considerable excavated evidence) must perhaps have been especially stressful for people who invited them in to particular locations? Appreciate the fact that the reincarnated team doesn't seem to be going for quite that same level of hype & snark.
Great to see Paul one of my favourite experts
🎉Amazing❤
[R.I.P - Mick, Robin, Beric, Victor and Ian]
Great to see Paul Blinkhorn back in the trenches!! We’ve missed him!!
Paul Blinkhorn, sexiest punk archeologist EVER! Okay, maybe the only one, but he's 🔥😅
Poor guy. he appears to have had a laryngectomy. That’s a speaking tracheostomy he has there.
@@suetlantham5590 Still on the right side of the turf though! Great to see him and Sam.
His knowledge blows my mind.
I'm so excited to see Time Team back, and with some of the original folks , especially Helen, Carenza, Stewart , John, Paul , Sam and Jacqui 🙂
Such an interesting episode , I can't wait to see the second part !
Yeah, thank you TT crew of awesome archeology, archeologists, the amazing virtual tech scenarios and everything that’s wholesome & revealing the depth and breadth of humans we’re still learning about! ❤
Glad to see Paul Blinkhorn back. I've always loved his energy when discussing tiny shards of pots.
Good to see Dr. Helena Hamerow back. She was one of my favorite experts.
What a treat to be able to watch new Time Team episodes. There has never been a more worthy use of my Patreon subscription.
That moment towards the end with Carenza trying to not be emotional upon the spoil heap find of a belt buckle was brilliant; thank you for leaving that in. I wish nothing but success for you all.
I absolutely love seeing and listening to Carenza. I have been a great fan of hers since I first saw Season 6 on Discovery Channel (US), back in 2000.
21:03 for anyone who is wondering, that guy is pressing his throat because he got a tracheotomy, and its pressing against to prevent air from leaking whens peaking, like mine
Lovely to see Sam Newton and Paul Blinkhorn back again with the Time Team! Great episode, and lovely to see Helen's reaction near the end! Really looking forward to the next two installments!
THIS!!!!!! This episode is everything the original had at it's best. Perhaps it is the passion the Saxon period brings out in archeologists. On top of that, there's the fusion, of history that ties into the period the site dates too , and the details of what they were looking for. A ring ditch, but not a deep one. Only 10 to 15 cm deep. The artifacts were okay, but the information, and the fact that it wasn't lecture hall narration are what sets this one as a great dig. I'd be perfectly happy with one stain in the earth, and a piece of daub, if every episode had this style of presentation.
I love Gus' understated glee and enthusiasm!
Me, too! He’s fun! And clearly *having* fun, as well. Bravo, Dr. Gus!
Yes, Paul Blinkhorn, the mad lad of pottery. Glad to see him back.
You're all really on true form now. After the wobbles of the first year the formula is restored and we are getting proper Time Team in our eyeholes once again.
As someone who's spent the last several years watching every episode of the original series multiple times I can't thank you enough for bringing it back.
Dr Gus is a great host! You really feel his passion and excitement. Tony is, of course, the og… but dr g does an awesome job.
❤❤❤
I think I prefer tony as the presenter
Yeah, you can really feel how much he was able to loosen up between seasons, and it really makes a huge difference in terms of the energy of the show.
He does a wonderful job and his natural charm gives a nice feel to the episodes.
I sometimes feel his voice would fit the M&S food adverts on tv
Along with the ‘old regulars’ commonly named, and rightly so, I was pleased to see the return of two other lesser known qualified guests, namely Naomi Sewpaul and Helena Hamerow. This new Time Team seems to have come of age just the way the original series did and I hope we’ll see many more episodes !
As a long time follower of Time Team (since it was on Discovery in Sweden late 1990's) these new episodes shows just how brilliantly the show has progressed. To me as a Scandinavian it not only gives perspective on how the world was connected long ago; I also love and learn so much from the different English accents presented on the show. Did I say I really like how people speak?
Would love to have some more insight to how the languages have changed over the years.
So much fun to watch. And seeing Paul Blinkhorn back made it extra special. Cheers to the entire team.
So glad to see Paul Blinkhorn again, along with the rest of the crew of course
Stewart is a good advert for rambling around the landscape. Looks great for a bloke over 70
Dr. Helen Geake! Congratulations! I have been watching Time Team for years. incredible
I don't know about you but I really love these new (and old) Time Team shows - maybe hit the thumbs up to help them out. It can't hurt, right? Cheers all and thanks to those involved in bringing us this fine and entertaining viewing.
Well said, bunny....it's great to see support - as opposed to mindless, il-educated criticism from some here!!
Absolute classic already. Fantastic array of familiar experts, brilliant site with great potential in a fascinating time period and all the jeopardy we loved from the classic era. Helen’s relief was palpable - the fear of a ‘no finds’ dig is real!
So wonderful to see Paul Blinkhorn! And Helen Geake! Every new episode of Time Team just makes me so happy. Thank you.
Wow! This already rates as one of the best TT episodes and we still have 2 days to go! I absolutely love these new TT episodes, and it’s great to have Paul back again. Bravo to everyone on the dig!
Absolutely adore Helen, Stewart, and Paul! Being in the USA, a latecomer to discovering Time Team (2016). Thus, I so appreciate the Time Team Episodes shared here on RUclips.
The entire Group are just so Authentic in their "Team Connection". There's a noteworthy great value of coordination behind the scenes that is very apparent in all the Years.
Best Thoughts to all ...

I really didn't like Dr Gus to begin with, but his confidence has grown, and now I can't imagine TT without him 😍
To address his question of why she was buried, I suspect it was because she had died.
I’ll see myself out. 😎
@@alanholck7995 hahaha 😆
I think that in the original series Sir Tony played the role of everyman, the questions we ourselves might have asked or the doubts we might have expressed. As the series progressed Sir Tony knew a great deal and was no longer everyman because he was learning along with us. He still played the role quite well. Dr. Gus could not play the role of everyman because he wasn't everyman, he was an educated professional. Just as they couldn't clone Phil but Matt does a great job they couldn't clone Sir Tony but Dr. Gus does a great job.
This has almost all the old Time Team in it! Quite nostalgic!
I hope the time team read these comments. First and foremost, Paul I wish you a speedy return back to full good health. I am so sorry you have been fighting this. Secondly, a new time team all the appeal of the old but with well thought out new as well. Just addictive as the old episodes and delightfully fresh, riveting watching!
So glad you are uploading these new episodes to RUclips. I've been a huge fan for decades. And nice to see so many of the old team back in action.
Absolutely brilliant - all the feels of a classic time team with especially exquisite presentation of the pendant, in a way that early time team could only dream!
In the days when doing a 14C analysis, to try and date an object, was ‘high-tec’ ! What huge analytical advances have occurred (but, glad some trees surviving for Stuart’s landscape analysis 🙂). Bravo new-TT….
I loved the poem in the language of the time. It completes the picture that Time Team is so good at presenting.
This is so exciting! As long as Time Team films, I will be here watching. Just beautiful
Absolutely wonderful to see new episodes coming out! The variety of themes (Greek digs, WW II, Knight's Hospitaller, shipwrecks...) is brilliant, so many things to learn about 😄 and the fact that the spirit of Time Team remains unchanged by keeping communities involved, and by having it all crowdfunded...love it. Proud Patreon supporter 🤓
Loving the new Time Team! It could never be exactly the same as it was, and I love that it doesn't bend itself out of shape trying to 😊
This has to rank right up there as one of the best TT episodes ever. The classic team less Tony and Phil in fine form. Great detective work, interesting finds, community test pits making great discoveries, and Sam with his singing / poetry. Just outstanding. Thank you for making Sunday evenings great again.
I love that Helen is in charge she is awesome but I miss Phil and his hat and of course Sir Tony!
Loved watching Time Team from the late 90's,good to see some familiar faces on there from back in the day still with the passion.
Great that you've added subtitles! The automatic subtitles are quite poor, this makes it much easier to follow 😊
So nice to see Hilde is also back onboard. As one of the younger TT members I believe she has a great future in upcoming episodes of TT.
I am so happy that this site is now being excavated and examined. I look forward to years of information coming from this area.
The people may have changed but the spirit of the find and hunt for history has not! Well done!❤😁🍻
Loved seeing Paul back on this one! A great episode all round, really felt like classic time team. Phenomenal stuff!
Goodness, that was an interesting episode! Very much looking forward to the next two parts (and hooray we don't have long to wait now!). With all of the background and context it really didn't feel like an episode with very few finds - and I actually got slightly emotional when it was mentioned that the lady's bones hadn't been properly examined before, over the shot of Jackie and Naomi going to do so.
This has also stoked the flames of my curiosity about our own tiny village, believed to be the meeting place of the hundred (indicated by place name, field names, and topographical features) but so far only three definite Saxon brooches have been found across the parish. I would so love to find out the likely origins of occupation here.
I love this team, and the patreons that made this possible! Thank you all !
My word, seeing how everyone has aged has made me feel old this morning, but wow, so great to see some familiar faces. Carenza, Helen, John and Matt, you guys are incredible, thank you for doing this still!
To have followed all of the time team casts is amazing. RIP Mick Aston. and to the career developments of all of the cast is wonderful.
So glad to see Time Team back this weekend, Let the digging begin.
Yay, a new episode! One thing I noticed over the past few new episodes is that the big digger is often a brand new machine. Lucky guy. :)
I could feel Helen's excitement when she found the buckle. This episode brought me the sense of the old Time Team too, I'm glad for that.
Watched this a few days ago on Patreon, the 32 minute long version,. BOY o BOY are you in for a treat!!
I’m on Patreon too but you don’t see me ruing it for everyone do ya? Can’t say the same for you though.
@@jesterboykins2899 What in God's name are you going on about you twit? The guy didn't ruin anything. What are you, a complainer?
Great episode and nice to see Paul and Sam back!
It is so exciting to see this group back together.
what a great episode! thank you. cant wait for day two!
This is great stuff - classic Time Team back again. Sit back and enjoy.
So glad to see you back!! Good times ☺️
I have the impression that wherever you dig a hole on the British Isles you'll find history. Fascinating
Good to see this show still showing archaeology,a chance to learn and discover ✌️♥️🇬🇧
I'm happy to see Helen and the whole gang.
This is my first time seeing Dr Gus present, and he's wonderful! The new episodes have the same feel as the classic ones.
A very promiding 1st part. Cannot wait for the 2nd one. Oh, I just love this positive Time Team spirit.😊
Thank GOD the gang i sback together I love you guys watch every show love from Perth Western Australia
Have yourself a good cry Ms. Helen, you've certainly earned it! I don't think I could have held it together as well as you did!
As a fan of the older time teams (thats how i found this about 3 years ago) i thinks its amazing yet also critical that we see Paul, Stewart, Carenza, Helen, Matt, anyone else i missed (Henry) come on the new version and show thar despite the passing of time, the passion remains strong. Sure we miss Phil, Tony, Mick and others, the blessings comtinue with new folks taking the mantel. Always good to see old friends and new contributers keeping the passion alive. Thank you from accross the pond Time Team from an American fan.
My favorite thing about time team is watching technology develop over the decades!
And of course Phil and Tony xD
I do miss them but I love the mixture of new and og team members ❤
Cracking good episode. I hope someone handed Helen a handkerchief, poor thing. I nearly teared up myself.
So happy to see my favourite finds specialist Paul Blinkhorn back in the trenches! Whoop
Hello from Texas!
This is so great. I can't wait to see the next 2 days. 💕
Canadian Watching from Mexico. Love Time Team
Thank you patrons for allowing this amazing series to continue.
Winfarthing - (quarter of a larger area) - and the organisation of "hundreds". Sweden too once had the landscape organised in "hundreds". Interesting. I wonder if there is any connection? Western Götaland in Southern Sweden seem to have had especially much connection to the British Isles in the Viking Age, also concerning the spread of Christianity.
That Anglo-Saxon pendant was incredible. What an extraordinary and marvellous piece of jewelry.
Loved it so glad you guys are back ❤️
When I was studying Anglo-Saxon history at university in the 1990's, I remember one of my lecturers (Professor Richard Gameson) telling us in a seminar that there were almost certainly many more high-status burial mounds all over East Anglia, but these were hidden due to the fact they've been flattened by ploughing. At the time we were studying the Sutton Hoo burial and he was pointing out that it was far from unique - it just seems so because it was intact. This is a perfect example of what he was talking about and I'm sure there are more still waiting to be discovered.
Great episode! Amazing pendant! Can't wait to watch episodes 2 &3
It’s all looking good Helen!
Don’t fret!
I look forward to seeing more!
Dig carefully, & smile often!
I love how the host had a big grin on his face even when the camera isn’t directly on him. Seems like he’s really enjoying his job :).
Good to see Jacqueline McKinley again. She's awesome.
Oh my gosh! It's it tomorrow yet? I so hope more exciting finds are brought to light. ❤
Good to see it back. I miss Mick, Phil and Tony though
Phil's been doing some "Crackin' archaeology" with Waterloo. The battle site, not the railway station :P I do miss his excited "Oooo-arrr" though :D
Anglo-Saxon is my favorite periode in English archaeology 👍
I'm loving the new digs.
An utterly wonderful episode! Can't wait to see more!
Fantastic. As fully absorbed now as I have ever been.
Oh heaven bless, so many familiar faces. Wizened and slightly worn but their knowledge shines through nonetheless. Welcome back to Time Team Jacqueline McKinley, Paul Blinkhorn & Sam Newton!
Welcome back Paul!
I absolutely love this cast. Kudos to Tony for popularizing Time Team, but I am truly pleased to see this new lineup.
