Honey bees in a gas tank!

    I'm very familiar with the expression a"a tiger in your tank," but bees in a tank is another story. However, that's exactly what we have here. Wreck it Ralph called me and said he was removing some bees that had made their way into a gas tank, and wanted to know if I was interested in videoing it. My answer, heck yes.
    It's a pretty good story about the bees in the tank and how the tank made it's way to Ralph's, but you will just have to watch to hear the story for yourself. The removal of the hive proved very interesting and challenging, but the job got done, and the bees are now calling a bee box their home.
    There was one aspect of this video that was pretty cool, a mystery on how all the plastic got into the tank, and if you watch long enough, you will discover the reason for that. Thanks so much for watching and leaving your comments and blessings, it is all greatly appreciated. God's peace to all.
    Mr. Ed

    That is one pretty colony there. This is why I try to get beginner beekeepers to relax just a bit about their equipment, as they sometimes try to get things to be absolutely "perfect" - bees do just fine in any number of imperfect settings.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  3 года назад +2

      Perfection is something to strive for, but what's more important than that is the struggle to attain it. Beekeeping, like life, is all about learning and doing what is good for the other. Keep up your efforts and good works. God's peace.

    I found this video quite interesting and was worried about the bee’s being harmed from the sparks from the grinder . Seemed as well like allot of 🐝 where put into one hive especially after the rest which where on the hive on the right . I know this is just my opinion and you are the experts did you put these bee’s in a larger hive once they arrived at their new home and where any of the bee’s harmed by the heat and sparks thrown off by the grinder ? Speaking of the grinder is it really good to use such a device on an old gas tank ? Now about the rat is it possible the rat was living in the tank first and the bee’s took over the tank ? There did not seem to be any visible rat damage to the comb from what I could see so is why I’m thinking bee’s moved in and dispatched that poor rat for being to close to Momma Queen bee ?

    This was a good video, but I have a question. In one of your other videos, you said that it's important to put the comb the right side up when you hang it in the frames. So, whatever way the bees built the comb, the top needs to stay the top, and the bottom needs to stay the bottom when you hang it in the frames. However, I saw them turning it, and hanging it differently in this video, too make it fit on the frame better, so more comb could be hung onto one frame. Why did they do this? Does it not actually matter? Just wondering. Anyway, good video 👍

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  3 года назад +1

      Yes it matters which way the comb is placed in the frames, top has to be place at the top. The comb was placed correctly in the frame, remember, the tank was flipped upside down. Thanks for watching. God's peace MD.

      Bees do not have ears. However, they are very sensitive to vibrations, and I'm sure the grinder vibrations were very strong. Still, they got over it very quickly. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

    How in the world?! Why do bees like such strange areas?

      Bees, like many animals and insects are opportunists, they take advantage of the situation they are in. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

    What is your success rate when moving bees from something like that gas tank to a new hive

      Depending on the time of year, very good. It's always best to move bees when there is a nectar flow or right before one, and in this case, we had just started a flow. Thanks for watching. God's peace Michael.
