Mower throttle won't stay up fix

- Problem: Loose throttle assembly causing throttle to back down on its own at random times as the nut holding the lever begins to loosen. Gradual power loss at first that worsens to lever immediately backing off once pressure is released. Creates unsafe mowing condition as one hand is forced to stay on the throttle assembly.
Fix: use two 7/16 box/open end wrenches or two adjustable wrenches (or any combination of wrenches that works) to hold the bolt head captive while the nut is tightened back down. This problem may be better solved by purchasing a new nylock nut, but I am lazy and just fix it when it fails again, which is every few months.

Could also use blue threadlock to prevent it from loosening from the vibrations to the nut.
I don’t think it’s from vibration I think it’s from the plastic shims wearing out and now it is metal on metal instead of metal on plastic factory not like the overseas ones in most cases
Be careful forcing the black plastic part on that lever. Had the same issue on a mower. Under too much pressure the plastic part broke and the iron lever underneath was razor sharp. It sliced my hand open, blood everywhere. Just a heads up.

I have one of those self choking and throttling push mowers. It was running slowly, so I replaced the throttle spring. Then it stretched that one out and did the same thing in minutes.
Hey Brad, I have the Ferris FW 15 with the exact same issue, BUT the throttle assembly does not have any bolt that can be tightened. Have to replace the who assembly unfortunately. Good video though..

Can you put a locking washer under the nut to prevent the vibrations from loosening it?

It’s funny that it’s has a lock nut but keeps backing off. You could always add threadlocker to stop it from moving or use a locknut that has the crushed end that uses the deformed metal to hold onto the bolt instead of that plastic.

Looks like nyloc nut. Probably needs replaced if it keeps coming lose. Even better fix would be a second jamb nut, so it would be impossible to come lose.
