I've never left any comment to any videos on youtube, but your tutorials are very easy to understand because of kind explanation leading viewers step by step. I've been struggling to learn v-ray and advanced sketchup skills by myself to be a lighting designer. I really appreciate for your effort to make these clips! they are really helpful for me and others I guess!

I wanted to ask how you could alter the colour of a Vray material, I'm using wood and I want to make my material darker but nothing is changing it I tried changing it in the sketchup setting but it only changes it in the model, not in the rendering and I tried with all the settings, changing the refraction and the diffuse but nothing is working.

Yes I used V Ray glass mapping.
I also tried the SketchUp material, but not a nice render either.
When I use either SUPodium, or Shaderlight, two software that I use since a few years, my glass is always perfect....???

I will do a tutorial on glass at some point, but the fact that you're having this issue even with the Vray material presets at this point is confusing to me. Can you try to create a very simple render with a very simple model and see if the glass works then without changing any default settings?

I get how to use the Vray materials to enhance the Sketchup ones and that's fine. But what If I don't want to replace the material but still need something to give it a better rendering ?
Example: I uploaded a picture of an abstract painting from the web to my 3D model. Is there a way to keep the painting and put like a vray layer over it just to get the realistic effect ? Thanks !

I love your explanations! And how you love SketchUp and Vray. I am intensely studying these two programs, because they will be my companions in my professional life. I want to provide electronic modeling services in 2020. That's why I'm dedicating almost 24 hours to the studies of these two programs. I thought about migrating to 3Ds Max, but my teacher asked me to dedicate myself first to these two. And only then try others. I think I'm going to take his advice and he's right. And actually I love SketchUp and how does Vray have it for him, so it's perfect. I know the power that Sketchup has and I know it does things that any other 3D software does. Mainly in the area of architecture, "mockups". So I have some doubts and how vc you are in Sketchup and Vray, can you advise me on two issues? I would be very grateful. It is always good to be able to count on the support and help of those who know a lot. The first would be with regard to Srayup's Vray materials to its library of standard materials. I believe these materials are very well configured the only issue I think is that in some of them the resolution of the textures are low. But, apart from the texture part, the settings are good. if the textures were at least 3K, 4K would be the perfect materials to use in the projects. What do you tell me about it? Is this what I'm talking about? I was thinking here with my thoughts the following: If we apply a material of these that comes as standard and just replace the texture with another almost identical more with a higher resolution would solve? With that, we would take advantage of the settings. Is this my inquiry correct? The other question is: I have a degree in graphic design, but I do not like to work in producing agency, although I love this profession. What I really want to do is to make electronic mockups so I'm studying almost 24 hours this year of 2019, so that by 2020 I can get a head start on this new universe. And working as a service person at home or in my office let's say so. Can I believe in this "Sketchup and Vray" class for my future as a modeling service? What do you think? I need help with that! I love mockups and I'm loving SketchUp and Vray. I think of a future ahead of me to learn 3Ds Max, Lumion, etc. My focus today is Sketchup and Vray, because it consumes a lot of time and our mind. Thank you for everything and I wish you all a good friend!

    • @TheRenderingEssentials
      @TheRenderingEssentials  5 лет назад

This is a very in-depth comment - Generally yes, you could just replace the textures with more high resolution if you'd like. As to starting a business doing visualization, I know many people have done this, so it's definitely possible!

Sorry for the long comment but you seem to be the guy who would know the answer.
Can I make a high-res vray texture that is a png image with a transparent background, and apply that to a Sketchup face?
I need a way to apply images (4000x6000) into Sketchup and render them at a high quality. Right now I am losing image quality in the final render, when I import the image directly into Sketchup. I think part of the problem is scaling, I think Sketchup limits images to 1024x1024 before automatically scaling them.
Thanks, your videos have helped me a lot.

Hmmm - I wonder if you couldn't do this with a Vray proxy of some sort? I think Minh did a bit better job of explaining it than me, but theoretically you could import the texture as an object and use some kind of a proxy material to replace it in your final render - ruclips.net/video/oyS3Nbu5TAU/видео.html

Yes I can. SU behaves strangely on my work machine. I have already done a repair-as-admin installation. I will double check its reactions and eventually let you know about a culprit.
BTW I am glad you have started a new Render Channel - very interested in Vray training 'à la tienne'.
      Regards

Second question - does it show up in the "In Model" list after you add the material to your selected face with the method above?

      The Rendering Essentials
Once applied to a model the VR material does show on in Model list.
As far as I recall. I am at my place at present and the issue occurs at the office.
Once more, thank you Justin for your helpfulness.

I'll do a video on this at some point, but I think websites like Vismats (vismats.com/) and Poliigon (www.poliigon.com/) have some free materials you can download. Thanks for watching!
