    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  5 лет назад +2

      It really is simple if you read the pack and what do you think of the idiots that run an architectural shingle or even a three tab straight up the roof. Back in the day are used to run my three tabs straight up them days are over. Actually I try not to use three tabs anymore as I feel like they are an inferior shingle. I myself personally I like the Owens Corning duration Surenail. I also like the double dip galvanized nails or stainless steel nails. I do not like what they call a G nails that you buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot trust me if you leave them out in a rain storm they will rust or at least start rusting in one week what the hell kind of nail is that?

    Very well done. Been roofing for 20 years very very very rarely do contractors follow the rules on the back of the package. Usually guys just do the same nail pattern on every brand which is WRONG....OR they speed nail ...I call it EGO nailing....for some odd reason guys think if they nail fast it makes them the best roofer....WRONG! The guy that follows the package nail pattern along with a nice steady pace in insure quality is the best roofer...but what do I know I've only been doing this for 20 years.

    Not bad! I think I've seen you comment on my videos before. Few things, nothing incorrect, Just advice. If you're gonna have one side stepped out for the lefty at least have him over there lol and a few times I saw the bad habit of laying the shingles out upside down for themselves. It's a small detail to pay attention to all day long but it makes the process a lot smoother when you don't have to spin a shingle and then flop the other.. you can check out any of my shingle videos and see what I mean. That's one part of the routine you must pay attention to in my opinion. Good tip on the speed nailing I'm glad someone else recognizes the issue with it. Also, great stair steps. Dimensional he’s also has shingles that is two Part shingle therefore if you throw it over the ridge where it bends that it could cause the shingle to the laminate. If the shingle the laminate there will be a hole that water can go into there. Sorry about that my brother

    Thank you Drew. If you return my call, I want you to know that I think I have a hideous mess. 1999 triple wide with several hurricanes and leaks. I went up there on the roof Friday morning for three hours replacing missing broken shingles with the matching 20 yr old shingles that were left on the property. I found shingles with as many as 12 or more nails. I have 3 tab GAF light green asphalt. Very soft and flimsy. Tar paper all scrunched up and missing here and there. The quoting contractors like to say that I am 65 and so if I put on a real good roof, I probably won't be here in 25 years so get a cheaper roof. Depressing thought. I still want a sound and secure roof to live under! Get it? New roof deck or add a another layer deck? No idea how much rot. I have two sizeable sections of my ceiling that has colorful mold coming through to our living quarters. Not pretty. I am very upset over this. I just had to buy another AC/Heat package unit. 🙁

    • @michaelhubert5470
      @michaelhubert5470 3 года назад +1

      His crew definitely isnt fast. I have been in construction for 15 years. You can hear it. They are precise. Speed nailing sounds like a machine gun. it's where someone is just putting a lot of nails in or around the nailing zone. This can cause blow through or nails in the wrong spot. A lot of folks speed nail to just get done quicker. Now some guys are pretty precise with their speed
      nailing and hit the zone , but it's never guaranteed that way. As Drew says here, make sure the contractor goes by what the manufacturer requires. If not, it voids the warranty. Nice roof Drew. well done I only use Owen's Corning. Hope this helps. 🙂

      I help a lot of people and we did end up going over there and fixing his job but we did it for $100. So one of my men went over there from this job that I was working on which took time off of my job to go over there and help him with his job. This was right after hurricane Florence I had guys running like chickens with their heads cut off you don’t have time to help everybody for free. I have done entire roofs for free for older ladies and gentlemen free to check out my videos Drew’s Roofing And Home Repair free Roof

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  4 года назад

      You might be able to slip your fingers underneath until they get hot and lay down but you should not be able to put your shingles excuse me your fingers under the shingles

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair

    Looks like a good job only thing I seen which could of been better was putting more then 2 nails in the plumbing stack boot too hold it down, the reason for that is over time they rise and will eventually have gaps where you litterly can put your fingers under the gap, I usually put a nail every half an inch and then black Jack the nail , exterior silicone is better and a cleaner look, thanks for the great video
