Great video! Thank you. I'm getting this shingle replacement on my roof after my Owens Corning Oakridge shingles have severe hail and wind damage from 2008 installation.
Really appreciate the info! Currently working through a roof replacement due to hail. Installers in my area are using Tamko Heritage, Certainteed Landmark, and OC Duration. This is great information to layman homeowners such as myself.
Thank you for letting us know! Best wishes on your project and let us know if we can help. If there are any other topics that would be helpful for you, comment again so we can keep improving our videos.
Sometimes during installation when you need to cut that duration shingle like in valleys or hips, the fabric strip will come off and it'll be just hanging there ,another thing is that if for some reason you need to repair a roof with duration shingles, you're going to have a hard time removing shingles without damaging them.
Yeah it takes some time and practice cutting the surenail strip without pulling some of it out. Our team has gotten pretty good at this. And we do see dragging when repairing Duration shingles but in our repair jobs they have not been damaged more than other brands. What is your favorite shingle to work with?
Both you, get cutting shear large snips to literary cut shingles with scissors when low temp and when to warm butterfly blades like old hot guys. Dont cut roof or yourself i use small strip plywood. Repair work done in cold weather only, use flat bar slide angle gently cracking seal strip. Stay thirsty.

I put OC Duration, driftwood, on my roof almost 13 years ago. Went through two hurricanes Irma, and recently Ian. I did not have a single shingle blown off, although my home was flooded with a 3 foot storm surge. My only complaint about OC Duration is granule loss. There has been no hail damage, or blistering. However, granule loss is severe. So much so that I don't think it will last 5 more years. This is especially so in the valleys, where the rain runs down and washed washes off the granules. Granule loss is the one thing that keeps me from recommending OC Duration 100%.
Have had these 7 years. My cousin is my contractor and will only use owens corning. Today for the first time i have a lose shingle in the wind. It appears part of the shingle is broken but the nail strip is intact. How do we replace? Do we need to remove the shingle on top? Or is there a different way?

@@SolVistaRoofing I was very happy with it. The roof was completed on Oct 23 OC has some gorgeous colors really it's take your pick. I say only two types of oc ......pretty and prettier lol 😆
We used the Owens on our last roof . The shingles are leaching some dark substance that stains the concrete around the house. We have the concrete cover with tarps in the hope they eventually stop dripping this stuff off the roof .
Sorry to hear about that. Did you let the roofing contractor who installed it know so they can take a look? They may be able to help, and possibly get OC involved if needed.
@@kingtigercrownestate9102 Yes, hopefully if they get the contractor involved they'll be able to bring OC on board (if needed), if they're a certified installer.
I’d stay clear of OC Duration. I have. 6 year old roof with this product. Fiberglass is showing on edges and the color is faded already. Roof looks horrible. Working warranty angle with them and will see how it goes!
If you don't mind, can you share the results of the warranty claim? We have found OC to stand by their product. We are certified for several other shingle companies as well for those customers of ours that prefer alternatives.
My contractor used these on my roof and I live in a high wind area. He did my garage today and used the Duration & Titanium paper. Would never use anything else.
Roofer is quoting me now on a roof replacement on my 7 year old Lennar home in Texas. They said they use OC Duration shingles but, didn't specify if they were using regular, flex or storm shingles. Should I be concerned which one they're using?
I wouldn't say concerned as they carry great line of products, but you can obviously see that the duration storm is a stronger Shingle with extra protection with then bottom enforcement. But if you're not in a high hail/storm area you should be good with any line of their products
Do you need to be a certified installer to get the OC warranty? Im using the Duration shingles, rhino U20 underlayment, all the correct code compliant nailing patterns etc.
It helps to be a certified OC installer. But the OC warranty will still be valid even without a certified installer as long as you install exactly how OC instructions show and use all OC components (like you are). They should have installation instructions on their website and also on the shingle packaging.
Make sure to do your research, i have a bad experience with a seller trying to do cheap landmark products, after talking to a friend roofer he recommended owners corning duration. When they sticks together mann he told only a hurricane 5 can pull this a part.
Atlas makes a great shingle and the Pro Lam is a good choice. But in our opinion the OC Duration functions at least as good, and has a more dimensional appearance. Atlas Pinnacle Pristine is a worthy competitor to the OC Duration though.
@@SolVistaRoofing ok great! My mother is getting quotes on a new roof here in East Coast FL. She has been shown the OC Duration and the Atlas pro lam. From what I've seen, the OC is the better quality of the 2. I know that Atlas has the storm shield and the pinnacle which is a better than the pro lam and more equal to the duration. I just want to make sure I pick the right choice for her. Thank you!!!
Tamkko Titan XT is a good shingle - we have installed and repaired. It has a larger nailing strip than the Tamko Heritage so our installers appreciate that.
Nope, sorry to disagree. Just had a direct hit from Ian and did not lose a single Duration shingle. Yes, my home was devastated by 3 feet of dirty water storm surge, but, not a single roof leak and in the middle of a dark, howling storm, with water up to my waist, belive me, it made a big difference.
