I just discovered the local aquarium clubs that have monthly fish and plant “swaps” (they trade and also sell). The variety of fish and plants was way better than the best LFS at much lower prices, and the quality was impressive. I’m going to get all my fish and plants now from local breeders.

Now lve added a gravel cap and montecarlo and a few more because l put 'baby' Shubunkins in to grow on and they spawned! Now got between 50 to 100 fry. Since you mentioned toothbrush to clean your aquarium, I recently got an electric waterproof Oral-B Pro 100 and it's by far one of the best things I've got to easily clean tight spots, hardscape, and equipment. It's pretty cheap toothbrush but does an amazing job and in fact I got another one for myself for cleaning my teeth :)
I've used Pond Aquasoil for years with magnificent results, especially with carpeting plants like Glossistigma. I recently set up a tank with Aquarium Aquasoil but it doesn't measure up to common pond Aquasoil.
I tried it twice and had the same problem as he did, even after reducing the amount of dirt. Had algae all over because of excess nutrients in water column. It would be fine if you had CO2 and high light. Went back to Aquasoil and tablets for the first few months and stopped the tablet once established.

As I said, my planted tanks have so much hair algae and diatoms that I had to rescape one just to clean it. And now it's having the same issue just after 2 days I re-did my tank. I tried to keep my lights 4hrs a day just so it can help, but I think it helps but just a little.
@@theallseeingeye9388 Thanks for the useful tips. Good community here :)
Very nice!
I need to order those plant waits
13:00 I waaaaaaaaaaaaant it!!!!!! 😂
Stunning tank? When are you available to do that for my tank? LOL 😆.
So its safe to use organic potting mix as long its capped with something
Look amazing your tanks
man this tank looks amazing. I just can't get my tank working. The plants aren't growing well and I still have algea problems 2 years later. I've always dreamt of having a beautiful planted tank but my dream's been crushed. It's really hard making a tank look like this I just can't seem to find the balance :(
SNAILS!
I love ❤️ it!
I have the same lowtech aquarium and from the all plants HC Cuba is only dying even with liquid fertilizer...and 1g of CO2 weekly.
Great looking tank...! Although I would have made the sand layer at least twice as thick for a long term tank...
man i really love all your videos I've learned so much from you when it comes to planted tanks . keep up the videos I NEED MORE LMAO
What kind of sand do you use? Is play sand or pool filter sand ok? Have you ever tried blasting sand? Thank you so much!!
What's the benefit of keeping the light strip 3 foot above the water line? Why not pull it in tight?
I was about to go work on my planted tank but I’ll just look at this video first
How could you not have diatoms and hair algae on the leaves?
Dont you need to shove in the cut out of the stem plants inside the soil to make them grow ?
Have followed you for some time now and all your videos are easy to watch and informative and fun to watch. Would love to have the time and space to do what you do 👍🏼
Why the baking soda with the cyanoacrylate?
How far into the dirt cap do you put the plants. Do you put the plants just into the cap so the roots grow down into the bottom substrate?, or do you go through the cap and plant the plants directly into the bottom layer substrate?
hey do uhave any tips on growing s repens i cant seem to grow them well..theyve always been stuntted..but all my other plants and mosses are doing well...
I find they need good nutrients in the roots and medium level of lighting. Take this tank as an example.
Geez I love aquariums lol
