Starting watching your videos about a year ago.. been working on increasing driver distance and striking better iron shots. This video has been the best for hitting better irons. And.. I used to be the 'short sister' in my group... now I am out driving all of my playing partners. Tracking more pars.. but better yet... fewer doubles! Thanks Christina!!!

Thank you x3, Christina! I have taken lessons for years from a trusted teacher who kept correcting my hands to keep tight wrists until just into and after the thigh. I could never manage this. Conversely, when I just swung away, my best shots were when I felt what you describe. I am reminded that Jack Nicklaus said "the release begins at the top." Care to comment? BTW: you have a knack for good clear words accompanied by clear visual images to define things that can only really be felt.

IM compressing the ball much better today at 56 than I ever have and I can play 36 holes with back aches in morning. Neck, shoulders, arms and hand relaxed (1), posture (2) and making the 5 to 7 o’clock @woosh (3) are what I’m thinking about in practice setting. If I get out of sync I flip the club over and swing the handle, listening for the woosh at 5-7. Right elbow pinned to right chest, acceleration starts with gravity and increases with body turn. Makes 5 irons feel so much better than ever! Good luck all!

Hi Christina. Sir Henry Cotton said the golf swing is 85 percent hands and 15 percent body. (He is the one that advocated hitting rubber tires.) He said the trail hand moves faster then the lead hand at impact to the ball as the lead hand opposes the trail hand. I tried his theory and found it very cool. What say you?

Just keep that right elbow pressed against your rib cage. It creates proper extension on your backswing, promotes a shoulder turn, keeps the left arm straight (eliminates left chicken wing) and produces a soft draw. Practice doing it without hitting balls until it becomes second nature.

I'd hook it off the planet releasing like this. I release the club through body rotation, not a conscious movement of the hands, which keeps the clubhead squarer through impact. But I've always had fast hands and the hook has always been my nemesis so this tip probably doesn't apply to players like me.

  • @azcharlie2009
    @azcharlie2009 5 лет назад

This is a great tip for more distance. But, maybe not so much for accuracy? I started doing this about 7 years ago and developed an unpredictable hook. So, I went back to a square, down the line, release. I would advise to practice this, but use the straight down the line release. Just make sure you extend your arms through impact. No chicken wing......

I am slow! Slow thinking, slow moving, slow, slow, slow and 6months of chemo made me slower but I hit the ball long for someone in their sixties.( driver 250+, 8 iron 150+etc.) You must learn how to develop a swing /move that matches your natural make up. All your theory is correct if the athlete is "wired" correctly for the concept. Many great players are arm and hand releasers, but for myself, this never was nor will be a repeatable swing option. Unfortunately, my swing development came late in life, basically after I lost my health. I wasted too many years trying to do things that were never repeatable for my talent. Golf is funny, once you develop repeatability, confidence comes with it. I thank Moe Norman for his insight on how to step outside the circle. Have fun and enjoy the challenge of this game that forces you to be yourself !!!

Is that Marc or Jason Dufner?!!! I play the drums so I think I should be able to translate some of that speed into my golf swing however having the right technique is paramount. The dropping the hands and arms is huge for me..its the Ben Hogan secret I have been looking for!!!. I have been coming over the top by unwinding the left shoulder 1st for years and couldn't figure it out. This has crystalized that erroneous behaviour. Winter soon in Canada ..hope I remember all this next spring. will have to watch your videos during the winter or take a trip south!! Thanks for the tips!!!

Your hands maybe too high at impact.
The higher your hands are at impact, the more the club head will roll over.
Try and keep the club shaft/arm angle the same as address, by keeping your hands as low and close to the body as possible, at impact.
This way you get more of the 'shutting the gate', sweeping motion, like Hogan, Sergio and Trevino, it also adds power due to additional leverage.

    - Chicken Wing
( for Solid Iron & More Distance )

    @ngeltz 6 лет назад +1

Good pointers you've mentioned (as well as others). Pin arms to your torso, turn your chest about your spine when rotating both in the back swing & the release (gets rid of chicken wings). Keep the body still - don't move your body backwards and don't move your body forwards. The weight shift occurs while your body remains in the same position. And, I would add one additional pointer - follow through. Golfers must get that trailing foot to spin - turn those butt cheeks and pivot up on the toes (balls) of the trailing foot. Weight on balls of lead foot and heel of trailing foot, then spin (rotate) with a solid follow through as you shift your weight maintaining the same position rotating about your spine.
And, you are as awesome as hot apple pie!
