I ran my first marathon 3 weeks ago. Strong for the first 21, struggled 21-25, finished strong. Didn’t fuel enough. I’m 6’3 195 and was taking in one honey stinger every 45 minutes; which is about 100 calories, 20g carbs… electrolytes and water at every mile station too. I think I just going to experiment more and shoot for a 50k later this year 🙏🏼 new sub, love the channel so far
Great job finishing a marathon! I am 6'3" 185lbs and did my 1st half & full marathon in the last year at 41yrs old. Marathon had 1350' of climb with 3 handicap ramps you had to zig zag and a stout 100' climb at mile 25 ...last 6 miles were rough. I researched fueling/hydration alot and made sure to fuel every 20-30min with water and a gel or tailwind endurance drink...managed a 3:39 and was sore for 2 wks.😂 At your size, you should definitely fuel more than 100 calories(20g sugar)every 45min during a marathon. You will feel and perform alot better during the last 10k if you take in twice that amount. Did you hit the wall and walk?
I’m 6’1” 215. It took a little over 400cals/hr in my last 50 miler to keep me feeling good. That’s the high end, but I say that to say that 100 cals/hr is def way too low. Aim to carry and consume 250/hr minimum and supplement that further at aid stations.
one the best documentaries that i have seen ... you are an inspiration , if you ever feel down or feel like bad just know even though you can't see us we can and we are inspired by you and hope for everything good in life matt choi. You are an amazing person
There's nothing like the ultra community/ atmosphere! When I think of ultras, my first thoughts are fun, friendly, and food. What other races feed you quesadillas, soup, grilled cheese etc DURING a race!? 😆 Only after those things does "pain" hit the list. Like he said, it's just a part of the day you expect. If you can do a marathon, you can do a 50k. The jump in distance isn't huge, but the shift in experience and mentality is amazing!
I struggled with my knee on my first 50k aswell, i feel the pain mentally and physically about going down hill with that knee i had the same thing happen to me (meniscus tear) such a bummer. This is an inspiring video. God bless you bruh 🫡
The IT Band is one of the most common issues for runners (2nd?). Every step feels like a razor on your leg. Mine was mile 18 of my first marathon. It is really, really hard to keep going through that. Lots of respect for working through that!
Well done on your 100miler!! Welcome to the club! Jumping in at the deep end! But many lessons learned and all making you stronger for the next challenge! We've all been there. Well done, the pain will fade but you won't forget the experience, Nice work.
Bro watching this has inspired me to go run ultra marathon but obviously I not right away maybe in my twenties right now I’m 15 and the most miles I have ran so far is 7 miles and I thought that was a lot boy was I wrong😂😂
This was a great video. Very motivating. I have been considering trying to do a Half marathon and eventually a marathon. I love your channel and your energy
Great video! Nice work capturing the story at the same time and such a big effort - I am working on ways to do this and happy pleased with my latest film, but from watching this I know I still have so much to learn and practice! Awesome stuff
Fantastic Matthew! I am currently prepping for the Grindstone. It's just under two months away at this point. Great video! May I ask what your training was like leading into it? And are there any pointers possibly that didn't make it into this video? Thanks!
Great video! I'm 6'3 170 and planning to do my first ultramarathon within the next year. However, I want to put some more muscle mass on with a goal of getting to a lean 190. I'm looking to gain muscle mass, but I don't want to sacrifice my running goals and was curious what you currently do and if you have any advice?
Man this Is so motivating!I just ran my 1st Marathon today,I had a belief that I couldn't be that guy but I proved myself wrong! It only showed me that I can do anything.I will continue to keep raising the bar!Great job on your ultra so impressive!!!👊🫡
@@tylermiller868 Whats to appreciate in a cheater? There is no reason to take drugs unless you feel inadequate. Nick Bare will never be able to say he done what he done by himself. Nick never achieved anything the hormones did. Anyone can go and inject testosterone and get results it's not hard.. I unfortunately made Nicks mistake, I too will never know what I was capable of.

As an active duty military person, this mentality is 100% a winning mentality. Good on you for spreading it. Keep up the great work man!

My longest distance is 19 miles. How long do you think it would take for me to at least run the 50 mile ultra marathon?
Maybe another year of slowly building up to it

I dead ass prefer this guy over nick bare
Haha Nick Bare,. Doesn't even compair! As soon as someone starts taking drugs they've lost any credibility.
@@djokovic1747 he took drugs?

Why not appreciate both?

Your pacer muled for you. Looks like he was wearing your pack.
I saw that, big no- no. It gives an unfair edge over the other runners, and is often written in the rules.
Feel like he's just riffing off of Nick Bare's videos, even moved to Austin. Except doesnt have a company he is making content for
