The swing revival of the 90s and early 2000s was a great time! I used to go out multiple times in a week to dance. I miss it so much!

wow this is a nostalgia trip. I was a 15 year old highschooler when the Big Band/Swing revival happened. Now I am 41, and I miss it and my youth. To live during the 90s were, to sum it up in one word: Magical.

I wish i would have known about swing music when i was much younger. I played trumpet in grade school and junior high. I was very good at it but got so bored if it. If i was exposed to this, id kept playing and tried to be in a band like this. When this came out i was already mid to late 20's. I was kicking myself in the ass for not staying with it. I loved this when it came out. Big bad voodoo daddy, squil nut zippers, lee presson and the nails. So much fun ! Still love it in 2023

That period in the late 90's with swing and ska both coming back in a big way was really special for horn players, no question. But the other reply is right: Nothing at all stopping you from picking up your axe and playing it, and there is still swing and jazz going on in all sorts of corners of the world because the music is just that good.

Do you even know what that means??! Of course you don’t know what that means do just don’t say it anymore….” Lol 😂 dads always get so awkward around their daughters when shit like that happens, now that I’m older it’s hilarious watching them tryna figure out how to navigate that extremely uncomfortable terrain lol and band names like the cherry poppin daddies doesn’t help much lmao 🤣

Love this song. The thing that impressed me the most when I first heard it was the bass player. I play bass and don't think I could handle this line. It's not that it is super fast or anything, but the guy's note choices are just crazy. And they fit perfectly. But nearly incomprehensible for my brain to get around that almost random walking he does. Very cool song.

Who's that whisperin' in the trees
It's two sailors and they're on leave
Pipes and chains and swingin' hands
Who's your daddy? Yes I am
    Fat cat came to play
Now he can't run fast enough
    You had best stay away
When the pushers come to shove
    Zoot Suit Riot
Throw back a bottle of beer
    Zoot Suit Riot
Pull a comb through your coal black hair
    Zoot Suit Riot
Throw back a bottle of beer
    Zoot Suit Riot
Pull a comb through your coal black hair
    Blow Daddy!
A whipped up jitterbuggin' brown eyed man
A stray cat frontin' out an eight-piece band
Cut me Sammy and you'll understand
In my veins hot music ran
You got me in a sway
And I want to swing you dove
    Now you sailors know
Where your women come for love
    Zoot Suit Riot
Throw back a bottle of beer
    Zoot Suit Riot
Pull a comb through your coal black hair
You're in a Zoot Suit Riot
You're in a Zoot Suit Riot
You're in a Zoot Suit Riot
    zazoot ziyow
    zazoot za zoo zay
    play abodiya
    zay zay zay
    zazoot zi yi yi yow
    zazoot za zoo zay
    zay zoo za zezzle
    zay zay zay
You got me in a sway
And I want to swing you dove
    Now you sailors know
Where your women come for love
    Zoot Suit Riot

That just says to me you aren't digging deep enough. Or by creative and original you actually mean "that I like quite as much"
If you want weird fusion genres of the modern day go dig up some bridge city sinners or amigo the devil.
Perhaps some synth jazz like stargazer. Or big band folk like bellowhead.

This song was once performed live on *Nickelodeon* of all networks during _The Big Help-a-Thon_ in 1998, right when _Zoot Suit Riot_ was hot on the charts. Every instance of "beer" in the lyrics was muted out during the broadcast, but the guys in charge of the dump button weren't always on-time. Some times, the dump button was pressed too early, while other times, the dump button wasn't pressed for long enough.
