Beautiful piece there Steve Great tutorial! Yeah! I finally found paste flux here in Canada It’s called Ruby Red Smokes a bit but I love the stuff Thanks again👍👌 Patricia
The main purpose of the flux is to prepare the metal surfaces for soldering by cleaning and removing any oxides and impurities. ... The flux also protects the metal surfaces from re-oxidation during soldering and helps the soldering process by altering the surface tension of the molten solder. But, you can solder without flux. While it is helpful in the process of soldering as the flux helps break down the oxides on the metal, it is not needed. I don’t not recommend trying to solder copper foil or lead without it though.
Thank You ... I've been doing small glass pendants and my soldering looks like shit. I didn't realize the best advice for soldering would come from a stained glass expert. Now I know.
Steve thank you for a great video, its most appreciated. A few questions: what size foil do you use? And for soldering lead came what size tip did you use w/your iron? Thanks again.
Gracias 🙏💜🇨🇴 thanks for sharing yogur típico, I use translator, you ha e helped me a los with the soldering, ir is posible to tell me Cautil ...I see that you use One with a short and thin tip; cream or flux better Than liquid..? ...something Special with lead..??? Thank you very much for your answer.......GREETINGS FROM. COLOMBIA. 😂🤣🙈 (I nope the translator has worked)🤣😂🙈🙈🙏💜
HI; YOUR work is very pretty i LOVE the circles on it. . i recently collected a small handful of oh 12 by 12 inch windows with a missing diamond shape in the middle. the outer frame has a few different cells , they are antique and I would LOVE to repair them -. they seem to be using older methods ( the original had real lead, yes? ) my main question here is since the middle cell is missing you have to take the piece apart some how before you can insert more glass - is that right ?
I didn't know where one could buy Canfield flux either, but found it easily enough on Amazon. :-) It looks like a one pound tub would be about $30 with shipping. It's not eligible for free Amazon Prime shipping.
Beautiful piece there Steve

WOW! Thank you! I cannot believe how SMOOTH your solder is! I keep seeing (and having) bumps at join points. Is your flux the secret?
Cylking helps to have a really hot iron...too cool leaves bumps

If talking to your solder gets you such great results, then by all means.. talk to your solder. :)
I see many videos that are more than 10 min.
Try different settings.
I would like to see from beginning to end of a piece.
