Replacement bearings for a few dollars if you have the time. Just have to measure the od id width or try to find the manufacture specs! Good work. Definitely worth the try
Edit, it spins super rough. But then it throws code and stops. But connected to a power supply it spins freely. In the car just spins and code. I clear the code continuously on startup to get it to spin. Must be something to do with a fuse that checks it. Too much back emf or something and the sensor stops it.
The water is most likely from the air injector solenoid sticking or not sealing completely. Excess condensation builds up from the constant circulation if hot exhaust through the cool remote mounted fan. Great vid!
Regardless of all the haters guys ,this video was on how to replace a sec. Air pump that mouted arour fender walls that get hit when it rains and from car washes. There built non water proof to throw codes. Anyways greay vid guys
In Canada as of now you cannot buy a new secondary air pump for a E36. If you could they want about $1000! (They were only $400 back when they first started to go). I will try this on my 1997 318is. Thanks again Guys as you say nothing lost, just try it!.
This video gave me hope that I can actually FIX my pump on my Saturn Ion! I'm getting two trouble codes on my code reader: P0411 and P0446. I'm thinking the 0411 is related to my Secondary Air Injection PUMP (not the same as the VALVE that connects to the exhaust manifold I found out). I took the valve off because several videos showed the metal tube can get clogged with carbon, but mine was totally clean inside. I wasn't sure if I could test it or see it work because there were too many plugs inside the harness, not just a power and ground. I didn't want to fry something. Anyway, once I find my S.A.I. pump I'm going to open it up as you guys did and see what I find. I've watched several videos that say you can poke or drill a small hole in the rubber cup to allow any water to drain out. Makes sense! But your video kind of gave me a better idea of what exactly is inside the pump and how to clean it. Thanks!
@AutoRepairGuys Thanks. I tested mine, and it definitely works, but doesn't ever seem to come on during a cold startup. I am trying to set the monitor for the Secondary Air System. What might cause the air pump to not start during a cold start? ODB scanner says coolant temperature is about 70˚F.
You nailed it. Permanent Magnet DC motor. It is likely to be: 1) Bearing, 2) Commutator, 3) Dirt in the driven system. Well done; boys. You made an excellent video. (Get your GF of FB in your video. ha-ha).
It produces moisture since its an air injector it traps it in building corrosion best thing to do is make a hole on the rubber boot on the underside of it and let gravity do its job
any symptoms from a bad combi my air pump comes on but not sure what closes the combi like somewhere it states if a bad combi exhaust will get into the system but on a performance issue open running does this throw off the mix or what are the symptoms of a bad combi
Hi, I have a P0492 error code coming up. Secondary air Injection air system bank 2 mailfunction... 1 is it serious? 2 is it a easy fix?? Thank you. From New Zealand.
This is an old vid, but recently i bought a 520i e60 for cheap. the car runs fine, but the obd is throwing a secondary air pump fault , but i can't see if there is one :)
the check valve went bad for this system which allowed for water to enter the pump, great fix but eventually the same problem will occur later on down the road, which only matters if your planning on keeping the car.
I CAN'T GET MY SECONDARY AIR & the EVAP to get ready for my BMW 750li so I can pass the emissions smog test. It's been 450 miles and everything else is ready exept the evap and secondary air. Can someone please help me. Thanks
i hardly subscribe but i have to for this video. i also read the comment some guy said about minute 7:56 not being able to understand the commentator guy, hella funny!
Problem is the bearings will fail. Should have replaced them to ensure longer life, also the secondary air multifunction valve should be replaced as it passes condensation down into the air pump causing it to fail as they have discovered here. I know this because I just replaced both items on an Audi TT Mk1
I have an E39. My secondary air pump works, but whistles very loud while it's on. I wonder if I can clean it up and maybe put some grease one the bearings?
I replaced my old pump with a cheap one from ebay, which is now starting to squeal. Maybe I'll get another cheap one and take it apart to clean. Verdy Verdy interdesting 😆
It's not that it wasn't sealed right ...what happens is the check valve ends up being no good and it let's moisture flow backwards into the pump and stays there !
Can you explain what is going on in more detail and what are the reasons why you are doing that in greater detail, because is not very clear at all. Please.
that electric motor sounded terrible. if it was left to run over the default 90sec max it would start melting something. should replace the electric motor completely.

You guys are awesome! I'm feeling a little more confident about fixing the secondary air pump for my son's Audi.
Fixed my Subaru one today, cheers for the inspiration

Maybe air filter on to hose 🤔

I have the same issue on my e46 m54b30 where my sap won’t run on cold starts so I may try to disassemble my sap before replacing it.
i LOVE it!! "doesn't work even when you hit it!!" good videos guys!
YEAH, REPLACE the valve and bearings.. after all that work getting it open, might as well replace the bearings, they are cheap enough. Good work!
...love your channel! ...the way you roll your ‘R’s’, though...😁.
Wow! You guy really know what to do to save the pump. Tumb up!
LMAO....7:56 what the hell did you say?! "wurr going to ger to wur ter bluer ta flurrr" that killed me. and i replayed it 17 times
what he said is: We're going to go over the rotor there where it contacts.
Hope is back for me again!
I will try and work on it tomorrow, I'll be posting to see how it went!
Thanks for the video!

This is a great video thank you for posting! I need just the black fan blade part(mine broke). Do you know where I can buy just this?
Kids, never bang on a shaft with a claw hammer. That's why brass hammers and drift rods are made.
Nice work! Mine also doesn't work. Will try your diy.
Very practic thank you

I test that today my citroen c5 .same problem .i take pictures..thanks guys 😁
My first car where is this "turbo" 🤣

Nice money saver!!!😁😁
Some people drill a small hole on the bottom to let any water drain if it happens again ..
Very good video! Very helpful. Thank you!!!
Sweat pants and jewels. These boys crack me up both with accent and there jewelry while working on cars. Lmao
The watch lol
Great job! Thanks by Toyota user :3 1GR engine has a same secondary air system. Damn, the most useless thing at world.

The motor casing on mine unfortunately is tabbed on and I'm going to have work pretty hard to separate it
Great job man

Good video, thank you
Thanks very helpfull video ❤
Nice Video. Thanx for sharing .
I got a P2437 error code about this issue. Does that mean I might need to replace the motor as well?
Superb thanks!!
I saw a video that showed the water is exhaust gases that condense inside the air pump and rusts the pump
PAM Works great around the motor..and aviation gasket maker to keep the part water tight it n dry .
you sound like Gru :D

Where is the fuse for secondary air pump of 2012 328i
2:35 it s a regenerative blower

Why did you take the entire inner fender out. That far front piece is all that's required.
Where are you guys located?
good job guys
Кефиш Баце, с чука финната настройка оправи всичко. Ще ручи още 6 месеца и евентуално перката ще се извади.

Exactly
WD 40 will attract more moisture, the absolute worst thing to use. Better to use Kroil and then a lithium lube.
See next time BMW gnna make this unit sealed! lol
Bravo video.
Can you explain what is going on in more detail and what are the reasons why you are doing that in greater detail, because is not very clear at all. Please.
It’s not dead until we say it’s dead.....especially after we use a hammer
.....for name of all that holy bro, You are a smart guy, but THERE IS NO T25!!!!! Lol
big like guys
what issues this the bummer this SECONDARY AIR PUMP do?
AiorosRovelo With a cold start it puts extra air in the engine for low CO2 emissions. After a couple of minutes it turns off.
Wiren Changoer thanks for u reply buddy.. this guys are doing an excellent job
thanks
nive vid and nice job
YAS!
that electric motor sounded terrible. if it was left to run over the default 90sec max it would start melting something. should replace the electric motor completely.
