Wow this is phenomenal 👍🏽. Great demo! SSL really listened to their customers in a BIG way with this piece.
Good Lord. It’s a full on hybrid interface / analog summing mixer the way we’ve been waiting for someone to implement it.
the really filled a gap here :-)
@@ProducingBonedo And also: "When your reverb costs as much as your hybrid console/audio interface/summing bus" --> Now that's livin'!
@@silversulu well tbh. I actually have a SSL Origin in my studio - and since yesterday two bricasti. haha :-)
@@ProducingBonedo *gulp* so how would you find any utility in a teeny lil guy like the Big Six?
@@silversulu still perfect for pre production in the smaller room ;-)
Someone is demoing a good product with good music in a good way, without saying a word.
Thanks
Hybrid is going to make a comeback and thats where we should all be. A foot in both worlds for convenience and tone!
I am using the SSL Six and can't wait to get this bigger brother. Available in Germany from January, if the container arrives... I also note your Bricasti and the 1176, lovely machines too. Enjoy!
What would be cool is a A/B comparison of the unprocessed and processed tracks. Otherwise thank you.
This thing sounds amazing
I'm waiting for mine; it should be available soon! Good video, thank you!
Perfect demo for a great mixer. Thank you.
Thank you! It really is an outstanding mixer to! best, felix
There is another VIDEO of BIG SIX I did for our SYNTHESIZER CHANNEL. Now with ELECTRONIC MUSIC: ruclips.net/video/wLoeSYyLCuA/видео.html
the sound is so amazingi - thanks that we can watch this. I would like to see you also using the Desk in a recording situation with external Hardware like Drum Machines and Keyboards - just an idea ;-)
Soundin’ Niice - kick pumpin’ just right
PUMP-PUMP!
It sounds beautiful
This sounds better than most hybrid audio interfaces this sounds like a multimillion dollar vintage mixing de Desk
Awesome! Fun to watch. Thank you.
this is incredible
Great demo! I can’t wait to get one. This is a great unit that covers a lot of ground and provides a lot of high quality features and functionally. It’s flexible and affordable for what it is.
Side note: I get that some people want SSL to make something for their personal wishes but that’s a kind of a selfish mentality, no? SSL made something that pretty much anyone can implement in any setup from basic to advanced. Poor to rich! Cheers to them.
Very good point. I already found my self wishing there was something just a little smaller, but this really is a good value. The other one isn't the right fit for me cause it's all analog.
So you are telling me SSL is the only that got the memo of how hybrid interfaces should be? This is incredible!
Edit: $2999, that's a number. 😅
True: there are lot of mono channel strips in this price range too. but this thing has four preamps - with eq and compression! and its a 16-in/16-out interface. and it has 4 additional stereo channels with eq. and a serious monitor section including two speaker outs, two cues & two headphone amps. that is a serious package for an absolut fair price imho
that bricasti is the real hero
Gorgeous 🤘🏾🖤⚡
Great video thanks
A lot of value and quality, but SSL made a huge mistake: they didn't put analog inserts on the stereo channels!
It would be so great if you could put stereo bus compressors or more sophisticated equalizers (or both) on the stereo channels. That would raise this board's game exponentially. But you can't do this. If you use the converters on the BiG SiX, they go straight to the stereo channels with no way to patch in outboard on those channels. The only way to get outboard analog onto the stereo channels is if you bypass the converters and run it as an analog board, or do some sort of crazy aggregate device setup. You could use the cue sends, but that is such a waste of the sends.
Totally on your side here. Just a few side notes: you have a master insert and you can insert the built in master-comp alternativ via Cue1. you can also fake one more insert if using the mix "bus b out" as a send and the "summing input" as a return.
@@ig2413 not sure if i get u right but: you can bypass the converters by using the line ins. but this does not help with inserts.
@@ig2413 nope
Great. Can you mix something with vocals by any chance?
I will try, its always a little problem with clearance tbh. but i will record some vocals for the full review!
@@ProducingBonedo would be great
I'm in love.
Sounds great. Been looking at this for a while now. Did you track through the pres on it for this?
Thank You!
Good afternoon
Sorry for the inconvenience, if I may just ask one question.
I'm faced with a choice. Buy SSL SIX and audio interface or buy SSL BIG SIX.
In one of the reviews I found out that SSL BIG SIX does not have as good analogue sound as SSL SIX. If this is not true, then I will buy the SSL BIG SIX for myself.
What would you say comparing these two devices in terms of sound quality?
Are they exactly the same or is there still a noticeable difference?
Thank you very much.
Love it!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
I've been waiting on mine to get here how did you get yours already? Nice Demo by the way
Great video
Hey Bro Good Work.. Are you working in 96khz or 44.1Khz Thanks. Keep up the good work
well done
i wish it has adat i/o at 96khz
Nice sound ❤️
plot twist! ssl fusion gets added to the master insert.
not in this video but sure, why not? 🙂
How did you find the converters? Thank you
The beatles didn't have better than that
Great song and demo! I am not fullly understand usage of Mix B in studio setting as that mutes channels going to mains. Is there a way to blend the channels in primary mix to mains and mix b? Any detail as to how/why you use this would be really helpful - Most everything else is fairly straightforward. Other question is looks like you are using Cue2 outs to Bricasti - Where are you bringing in the return as not seeing any of your channels assigned to this. Are you bringing it back in via External 1 or 2 inputs? If so love this idea as hate wasting a stereo fader/channel on effect return with so few channels.
at 2:44 you can see him switching on the Ext2 Channel on the Main Bus .. also you can see two black "TRS"-cables in the upper front right site (Ext2 L/R) .. so the return is Ext2 (rotating the Cue2 Knob you can hear the effect an no other metering changes)
To Mix B Bus - there is a BUS B Output at the back (L/R) TRS.
how are the converters? thinking of switching my set up...i have the six and apollo x16 thinking of getting rid of both for this? is it worth the process?
following
@@gengee21 i dont think the converters make a big difference here. if u dont need the uad plugins much - get rid of everything and get the big six. less hassle for sure
What's the track .. sounds amazing .. are the stems available? Love it
Nice mix. Are there submix outs to send to my mpc? I’m also wondering with the new update to the mpc live (expands I/O by up to 32 with class compliant usb interface) if I’d be able to use a usb hub to expand my I/O on the mpc, but at the same time have a usb connection to my daw.
I’d really like at least one submix out that I can sample any channel into my mpc
Yes, there is a Mix B - automatically engaged when u press mute
insane price!
Thanks for this video. The only thing I haven't been able to get an answer to is how to incorporate outboard gear on the individual tracks during mix-down. Is it possible to use the inserts on 1-4 when switched to USB mode? How about channels 5-12? Cheers
u can use the inserts on the monos, in the stereos there is no insert unfortunatly. but u can use bus b and the summin input to kinda fake one insert
So I’m a big reverb dork and have 3 different reverb pedals/units I use. Can I have these just hooked up at all times on the big six? Can I use them in both tracking and mixing? New to this style of workflow, sorry if this is a dumb question :)
Hey Hazel, the big six has two stereo-cues which can easily be used as sends and work with up two four mono fx. so yes, its possible :-)
could you specify the most important pros of this device in terms of sound quality?
for example:
1. better separation in the tracks bec of analog summing?
2. analog vibe added to track compared to best in the box plugins?
awesome music!
tough one. but let me explain it from a different pov: can you create a sound with six u cant achieve in the box? I dont think so - but definitily not that quick because its hands on.
@@ProducingBonedo thanks for your response and this video (amazing music),
what you said makes sense,......do you feel there is better separation in the mix from the analog summing?
SSL is tricky lol cuz they also released the UC1 all plugins format, which is kind of hands on (although not every channel all at once like the BIG 6)....i believe analog will sound better , but not sure by how much.....i think plugins come close (maybe 70% off the way) but the difference is usually audible in the low end, stereo width, smooth high end....
i wish they were able to fit in a nice VU meter + controls for the G Bus compressor like on the UC1, but it would increase cost...
I’m still trying to figure out where all the other analog inputs are as they say. I track 8 at a time from my MPC 3000, then have 2 stereo keyboards, 1 moog, a turntable. Would this be enough?
Good question.Thats 15 inputs total. The converter count maxes out at 16. That leaves 1 input open
There are just 8 Channels (4 Mono / 4 Stereo) Inputs with a channel stripe, in my opinion for up to 8 instruments (4 Stereo).
Also there are 2 External Inputs (Ext1 and Ext2) but without a channel stripe! (13/14 and 15/16)
A Talkback Microphone Input and at the back side a "SUM IP TO MAIN" Stereo Summing Input - for a sub mixer i think but without control knob anywhere (or i did not find it).
2:00 here it goes.trying to fix the snare
how are you bouncing these tracks in the DAW
Where are all the sources coming from? Are these being sent out of a DAW? Not being played live I assume?
I think Its over usb
From the DAW over USB
eveyrthing coming from ableton live with only one usb cable!
After finish mixing, can we record 2 track from master buss to Daw?
Thanks for your demo
Yes, u can!
pretty sure I get get this sounding identical with plugins. The reverb needs a high pass, the drums are flat etc...
well, good for you then :)
Hi there, do you teach mixing? If you do then I will join to the course
We will launch a twich series soon, stay tuned :-)
@@ProducingBonedo thank you, and please tag me 🙏
anyone else notice the popping when soloing tracks?
I want something like this for my tracking/mixing but with a better channel strips on each channel, like a better eq like the big ssl console boards with eq bells n curves & a good compressor with variety attack, release & threshold settings … but closer to this size!!!. But maybe with instead of 8 channel faders which they should make that too but i want 16 channels, eq & comps with 8pre’s .
So u want double the functions but the footprint should stay the same? that's not possible :-)
@@ProducingBonedo huh? Lol i just basically want a mini SSL ORGIN or mini ssl desk with some good fine eqs and compressors on each channel. And 1 set of that on the master chanel too . 16 channels would be fine for me to mix my beat tracks and then maybe mix vocals stems in a second mix after a beat mix is printed…
I don’t! I’m perfectly happy with this setup and using all the amazing plugins of today on the way in and out. Best of both worlds right here with plenty of options/workflows for producing great sounding records.
thanks for the video, I'm interested in the big six, I'm wondering if I use 4 external hardware, can I connect to them? thank you very much!!!
yes, no problem. u have 4 mono channels and 4 stereo.
@@ProducingBonedo yeah, thanks u so much...
So they discontinued the X desk for this ?
can you record only master track or all tracks separately after mixing on console is done?
u can record all tracks separately including master, mix b
How do you have that reverb unit coming back in on the EXT input? It looked like it was coming through EXT 2 and I thought those were only through the USB?
nope. external 1 and 2 are analog and a usb channel too
@@ProducingBonedo What’s really funny, I figured that out about 10 minutes after I posted this question… I kept looking at the back panel pics for those, not realizing they were on top.
I understand that you're running the tracks via usb from ableton through the mixer, but how do you print the mix that you're making on the big six tracks back onto the tracks in ableton?
usb inputs 1-12 are direct outs of the channels. USB Input 15/16 is related to the master. so I record in Ableton a track from usb input 15/16.
@@ProducingBonedo Got it thank you for your answering thats what I had to do today
how many outputs simultaneously ?
Цена 250, 15-06-2022
Can this mixer multitrack record directly to SD card?
nope
Did you use other hardware?
yes, the bricasti as reverb
Can you do a channel flip similar to the Duality where you can use the preamp on the line channel or do you have to convert them beforehand and connect the signal to the XLR input on top?
unfortunatly you cant use the preamps in the mono channels with the usb
I’m using two SSL SIX combined, am I the only one😅
ready to safe for a origin ;-)
Now can this be plugged into iPad pro?
YES! Just tried my iphone - and it works.
@@ProducingBonedo ok I'm gonna cancel my ua volt 476 order and buy this then.
@@redcomn wise choice
First time using a mixer? You look confused....
Help me daddy! LOL
