People on the internet: "Noctua fan's color scheme doesn't match any build"
Matt: *hold my brass*
All we need now is a Corsair leather and brass case..
Colour scheme? You mean all show and no go?
Please give me a full tower , no rgb and a fuck ton of 140mm 'ugly' noctua fans.

The next time you want to remove excess solder: Use a torch to lightly soften up the solder and the wipe the solder off with a cloth pipe cleaner. Keep going over it repeatedly until you've removed all the excess solder.
This is how it's done in brass musical instrument repair s shops.
Great advice!
That's a good technique if you're skilled and have just a bit of cleanup, but in this instance he had so much clean up that the brass would absorb and hold so much heat he could risk a sliding braise joint and throw everything out of whack. I doubt he has the fine touch with a torch to manage the heat properly to soften up only the bits of solder he wants to...
Although, it is a very useful tip to remember for when you need to clean up just a bit of solder! I once tried wrapping steel wool around a soldering iron with wire and scrubbing it away like that! Haha it DID NOT WORK. This technique would've helped a lot!
@@DanteYewToob a smaller pencil torch tip could focus the heat, making it easier to clean up only where it's pointed. That would be worth a go as well.
I still admire the fact that Matt learned as he went along, picking up crazy XP along the way!

This is absolutely astonishing, insanely good looking project as a whole
Sebastian Rydahl hello
I just found your channel. I love the artisan quality of your work. With this particular computer, instead of have the LED's inside keep changing colors, set them to an orangy-red to mimic the old cathode vacuum tubes. That would really compliment the build. Great job.
same thought about led colours. It doesn't even need some internal illumination.
Love it.
I like the fact that you haven't gone down the "Steam Punk" route that most go down with adding unnecessary components like broken radio valves lit with LEDs and pressure gauges from pipework.
So well done on that alone.
I don't think he was purposely targeting steampunk style, it looks more like 1950-1960s Fallout style radio/TV
It has a genuine look, like a real piece of equipment from a 100 years ago. Very practical. It's only missing a small brass bezel around the front USB.

I'm a leatherworker and PC enthusiast and OBSESSED with this. Need to get into brasswork
"I'm gonna make this compact"
Uses largest air cooling in existence
right is he overclocking, overkill there.
It's called efficient and quiet. You can get a small heatsink and fan to do the same job, but it will be noisy.
german imperial gasmask i imagine he was worried about the cpu thermal throttling in this diy case
It has an i9 9900k and is going to run at high load editing videos. It's compact without ruining performance
It's funny that the heatsink consumes about half of the space in the pc. But thermals and noise are important.
This is the one case, no pun intended, that a Noctua fan actually looks good in a particular build. 😆 Either way. Good job. Looks great. Hard work and Craftsmanship shows.
Was about to say the same, this is the only case where the light brown and creme color theme of Noctua fans is perfectly fitting AF.
The LTT edition they just came out with is black (with optional orange corners).

yeah, some old school metal switch (those with rods) - would perfectly fit the design
Are we going to address the fact that Matts sister put in a shed load of work and also happens to be super cute! Amazing work as always Matt (and Al)
The whole video I though "Here is a guy that would actually use the overblown workshop of Linus Media Group for unique PC builds". Maybe you could discuss a Cameo? I would love to see that.
Yep i would love to see that too
Linus is a talentless moron. That's why not.
Holy smokes that looks fantastic!
Almost like an old radio or space heater!
fun piece of info for anyone wanting to use brass in a build but having trouble finding brass of any good length around them or cheap enough, you can use carbon steel and bend it to the desired shape, then heat it up and hit it with a brass wire wheel, it will melt the brass to the surface of the steel and "plate" it with brass, giving you a much easier way to find big enough pieces. I have used this on weird shapes for knife handles before
Carrying this in the streets you'll look like someone just arrived from another century.
Kian J its very steampunk and has a timeless charm to it! Shame he did not use some leather punching tools for the I/O port apertures but it still looks good and it will tone down with aging.
And with hardware more powerful than majority of computers still to this century LOL
Or you go back in time and then you look like a genius from the time.
It's a wicked Victorian child slave drivers accounting machine that is also good and heavy enough to dispatch a rapscallion seeking to separate one from ones coinage!
Firstly: That's a really awesome looking bild. But secondly: Finally a build, where a Noctua fan actually fits the colour scheme - haha
Love this project, in spite of the maximum monitization and the lack of its description or narrative including the word STEAMPUNK. Also, there are faster ways to clean brass. Really beautiful though ...very inspirational.
"Why don't you just buy a laptop?"
Because this channel is called DIY Perks.
I'm stuck with a laptop for work, It a powerful one at that & They are not in the same league as Tower doesn't matter if it cost 3000$

IMAGINE our future generations will find eventually this PC, and they will wonder why does it look so different from others. Love every second of the video

You managed to finally make a Noctua cooler looks "cooler". Seriously... I'm drooling on this build.

I'm surprised that someone who is so heavily into building things, and technology, has not yet built their own mechanical keyboard. Please do a matching brass keyboard!
shogunharvey it harder then you say it is
Shogunharvy it is do able but it would be clunky and noisy to use with machined brass key caps and switch tray. You can just forget feather touch low profile scissor switches here. It would defo look the mutts nutts but the practicallity of it would leave something to be desisired. I have a hackintoshed AGP G4 case but use the latest apple keyboard because it is more evolved. I still have the original clunky smoked acrylic keyboard for showboating purposes but it is a museum piece!
@@MrDegsy69 if you kept the brass thin enough with leather tops, maybe. That or use wood for the base of the key caps and a thin brass layer on top...there is always a way around it.
@@Jack-sy8hs Not really, pay someone to CNC a brass case and you're practically done. Buy switches, a hotswap PCB, and some keycaps. It's just plug and play at that point.

You can make something like this.
You just have to start and practice.
Have fun doing so, and don't give up when things are not perfect.
Enjoy the process and do it a bit better next time.
If you burnish the edge of your leather it looks much cleaner and nicer, something to keep in mind for future builds. I know this is supposed to be a rough esthetic, but given how the brass has a nice polish as opposed to a patina, I think burnishing would match it nicely.
"I *really* like brass" - Dude you should hook up with Clickspring.

He even uses some of the same background music now and then!
So this is what noctua had in mind when choosing their fan colour scheme...!
honestly steampunk pcs would be really cool the brass accents look really nice and the mesh panels make it look like a retro speaker/radio
Noctua is probably throwing a party right about now; their fan colors actually fit in with someone's case design.
a sister that can polish brass sounds like the best sister ever
What a marvelous genius you are mate. I was choosing the other day materials for building a mini itx as the market doesn't satisfy my expectations of the mini itx department, I was going to build a titanium case but wasn't a great conductor , so the plan was to buy aluminium, but i don't have the tools requiere to do a perfect job so I ended up with plywood. Less cost and I have worked before with it. Plywood is great material for molding things as you please , better than any metal when you don't have the tools. Perhaps I would in the future build a metal case and taking some ideas from this video. Great !!
Imagine if you teamed up to collaborate with James Bruton! You two would set the world on fire!
That’s a gorgeous build!
I only wish you added a brass accent to the USB port and power button. 🤜🏼🤛🏼👏🏼
It would definitely be worth integrating it with a vacuum tubes amplifier for sound.
The glowing orange reflecting on brass would look amazing.
no. Adding an undervolted tube for illumination is possible but using it as an amplifier will not fit, it will create serious voltage hazard, heat dissipation problems and all the electronic noise will make it sound like trash.

Great build though, and i gotta say,
Es kocht die Eifersucht;)
Most of the dust it sucks in will stick to the CPU heatsink because it's a straight-through design. That's one of the easier parts to clean when the machine is open. It's probably OK the way it is, as long as he cleans it out once or twice a year or so. Remove cover, remove fans (and clean them), hit with compressed air.

Wow, bravo! It just needs some proper feet to minimize vibrations and to prevent scratches to the underside polished brass :)
Proper rubber feet, and I'd stick a thin layer of acoustic foam on the inside to minimise ringing from the airflow. That said, without spinning hard drives it won't get super noisy regardless. Dust covers over the air-intake too. They catch a ton of dust.
