Isn't it awesome to discover a channel that's been running for years, with 500+ vids ready for you to binge-watch?! Yes it is. Love your channel LGR
Hah, yeah i just thought the same thing
you must be new here?
KamenRiderBlackSun Nope
Yeah, that´s always a amazing feeling. =)
If you like retro YT channels you can binge-watch, how about you watch some Game Sack, too?
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the movement and animations? They look better and smoother than many modern games do.
They look fantastic for the time and are still good. The whole combat engine is super pleasant like in games released years later. Also the textures and light effects really work with the low-poly graphics, so the game doesn't look that ugly like many other games of the era.
Too bad they released the sequel early and then abandoned it the day after release when they closed their studio doors and jumped ship to another company.
You have a voice made of gold. A pleasure to listen too.
+Milky Lamb Thank you!
+Lazy Game Reviews I second that! Nice accent! What State you were born?
I think it's made of steel.
My father wanted this for Christmas one year. My mom bought him "Dune" instead. Curse those rhyming names!
Win nonetheless.

A true man buys his own games :)
Dune is fire! Download Emperor: Battle For Dune on either Good Old Games or Abandonware!
I looked for this game for decades...
Looked in the magazine back in the day when i was almost teen, played it in gaming center somewhere 2002-2004, my mother threw magazine in trash and forgot the name of it.
From that day i was looking for the name of the game to buy for myself after i got computer, all i could remember was bulky guy with a blue shirt.
Now i can rest in peace.
I never got passed the Hell level myself back in the dizzay :'(
This game is the second best lizard-eating simulator I have ever played in my life.
What's the first?
***** lizard-eating simulator of course. honestly I won't be shocked too find out if there's a game called that.
*****
Lizard Eating Simulator 2012
***** Shadow of the Colossus?
Painocus
Probably. I should play that game sometime.
"You're a badass named Ragnar!"
Ohhh, there once was a hero named Ragnar the Red, who came riding to Whiterun from old Rorikstead...
A great horse rider
With head belonging to her
I heard that bard fuck saying that as I read this. Can't remember his name.
@@rustyshackle8000 Mikhail?
@@dr.velious5411 Yeah! That fucker.
And the bragger did swagger and brandish his blade as he told of bold battles and gold he had made...
This guy gets SOOO much praise, and he deserves all of it. He could probably spend as much time reading these comments as we spend watching his videos.
Thanks!
Lazy Game Reviews yeah man, i mean every word!
Something about these 90's games really takes me back, they have this feeling that you'll never find in modern games, games like Unreal, Hexens; so good.
came out in 2000
you all have micropenises
I know the feeling. Something about these old, classic games is really something that hasn't been properly replicated in today's video games.
With each new, modern game that is released, I just crave more older- More polygonal games with that special FEEL about them.
When Elder Scrolls 6 is released, I'm probably gonna go play Morrowind instead. Or Daggerfall.
I think that quality you're missing in modern games might be this thing they call "nostalgia"
For some reason old games are good at that haha
@@MrDoctorColossus Nah there is more. Look at what unreal 99 did with almost nothing but some dynamic lighting.
Now look at Just Cause, I'm more bored with that shit.
Rocket league hits the spot perfectly here. The strategy games back then tried to be fun and customizable, look at AoE 1 game settings. Half an hour of shit to experiment with before the game even started.
Look at wc3 custom maps and compare to the failed sc2 custom scene, how do they manage to screw that up?
Moddability is another thing that's still not taken seriously by developers.
With a ten times larger market comes ten times the vomit, look at EA and how they are fucking over every franchise.
Oh yes. This game was brilliant. I played through the whole thing in multiplayer over a LAN with a friend. There was one point where I got both my arms cut off but was still alive. I just ran around helpless until I was killed. Hilarious.
JimPlaysGames This game is just pure fun to play on LAN. I and my friends spent hours on this game.
There was also a game mode (Headball) where cutting off enemies heads and arms, then throwing them in basketball esque stylized hoops (not necessarily killing your opponents) was the way to winning the game. These maps had little jumpy leatherskin trampolines and you could score extra points with a long range shot timed at the right moment. What a cool game
Just so you guys know, Rune Classic on GOG includes Rune Gold as a bonus.
Wow, 2568 likes and only 16 downvotes (0.6%)! That's an amazing ratio for almost 100k views. Just proves that even if someone is not into your reviews, there's hardly any reason to actually dislike them. Keep up the great work!!

Love that your "area" looks and feels like a game store circa 1998 (I worked for Electronics Boutique 1997-2001, so I get very nostalgic about it)
That's definitely part of the idea, yeah! I loved EB and Software Etc. back then.
dude u should have seen classic game room he has freaking arcade machines in his room or should i say it the inter galactic space arcade :D
I remember those from childhood!
They felt like an universe of possibilities! I thought the video card boxes were also games
I still remember buying Battlefield 1942 at EB. When the console section was a couple of shelves.. good times.
This game was kinda obscure and hard to get IMO. Even the pirate shop dudes (back when the internet was not a thing for many of us plebs in Balkans yet) were puzzled when I one day came there to ask them if they had Rune game. They told me to come back an hour later (usually they'd say several hours or even a day later) so I bought the magazine I saw it in with me. When I got there they told they didn't know what this Rune game was so I showed it to them and they were surprised but determined to get into their games library so they told me to come back tomorrow and they got it. :)
The multiplayer was so fun in this. There was a surprising amount of skill involved once you play against good players, and dual rooms where quite common because of it
I love the nonchalant way you talk about so many things. Your commentary is just gold.
I, too, revisited this game not too long ago. To my complete surprise the game has aged really well and it feels as visceral as I remember it. The level design does feel like a slap in the face at times, I have to admit, but otherwise it's still very much worth it.
This game was one of my very first multilayer experiences, I subsequently spent many of my younger years playing online and joining guilds and making friendships that have withstood the test of time. An amazing game, full of amazing people.
Man I miss this game so much. I remember being in Middle School and playing it online with a friend from school went by Frost, was good enough that he was accepted into the major clan back then known as iNi. To this day the melee combat they pulled off with every weapon having completely unique combat. The weapon swing was varied by your movement, heading and camera.
The skill level was crazy, I could hold my own for the most part but a true pro could cut my head off the first swing everytime... Reminds me of one dude we used to run into on some servers was a fukn straight ninja he'd hide in the most random spots and instantly dome you with a thrown hammer.
Man I could let the nostalgia flow for real so instead please lemme know if any of you got pretty into playing online back then.
I loved Rune back in the day, and played it relentlessly until completion.
Had this game on PS2 and absolutely loved it! Despite the noted clunkiness and glitches the epic story still engrossed me. From Hell to the snowy mountaintops it was amazing. Also had some fun times playing multiplayer with my brothers. Funny thing is I think my Grandma bought me this game, which makes it even better.
Rune's such a classic. The animation was unreal back in 2000. So many great memories.
The glorious, original Unreal Engine. I can't think of a game made with this engine that I don't like. From Unreal with it's expansions, passing through Unreal Tournament, to games such as Deus Ex. I bet someone is reinstalling Deus Ex after reading my comment.
The old PC gaming era, from the 90's to the early 2000's, was simply awesome. Well, the whole gaming in that era was awesome in general. Specially when Valve entered the market with Half Life, and Blizzard still making awesome, RTS games such as Warcraft and Starcraft. And with videoconsoles like the original Playstation, SNES, Saturn/Dreamcast, and the Nintendo 64. I'm really glad to be born in the 90's, but I really wish to live again in that era, having enough money to pay for everything.
That era when videogames used to look like videogames, not like movies. How do I tell all those AAA companies, that I don't want to buy interactive movies? Aside from not buying them, of course. I want my 90's experience back!
+Getar Meal Solid The Deus Ex where you start at the docks? ahh hell you got me i'm gonna re install the heck out of it when I get home
The mid 90s-early 2000s were GOAT for PC gaming.
ICH1990 True, same here. Gaming for me pretty much started its downfall after 2004. Unfortunately we will never see that golden age of the 90's - 2000's ever again in this industry. It's a damn shame these new generations have nothing cool to grow up with.
ICH1990
I'm glad I was born in the mid 80s. by the time those consoles you speak of were released I was old enough to get and play them.
AndyTom Yeah, but you're an old fuck now pips
Being a 10 year old kid when Rune was on store shelves, I mostly chose PC games for my mom to buy me by the box art. A viking with a horned helmet and axe, with another weapon visibly sheathed on his back, it was the perfect game for me. And I poured hundreds of hours into the multiplayer even with our at the time 56k connection. I still became pretty good with 150-200 ping against players with around 20-50. When we first got a new computer and broadband cable internet in 2002, it was a night and day difference.
I saw this video and I was encouraged to play rune, I thank you because I discovered a new favorite video game
I love the late 90's-early 00's in gaming.
I loved Rune. That game was fun.
The dynamic lighting is damn impressive for the time.
Dude, your voice and slight wit are both enough reasons to keep watching your videos. Keep up the good work.
This is my favorite game of all time!
Thank you! I was about asking you reviewing this, as I was also enjoying it a lot! So finally I could also see it through your eyes, and luckily our taste doesn't differ ;-)
The fighting mechanics remind me of the Jedi Knight series.... Could you take a look at those games in the near future? :)
@Zachary Hare jedi knight and jedi outcast if I remember the names right. It's the first thing I thought of as well.
I replayed this recently while having Heilung playing in the background. It was a super immersive experience that I enjoyed way more that my first play though 20 years ago.
Ah this was one of my favourite games back in the day, was so much fun
Another fantastic review.
I remember getting Rune and Severance: Blade of Darkness bundled together in an old PC magazine back in 2003. Man, the hours I spent with these two masterpieces...
in the middle of this video, i purchased this Pearl on GOG. Thanks to you, LGR. Me too love so much those kind of games and the early 2000's era of videogames, very magical period for games.
In the other hand, i don't understand why GOG don't sell Severance -Blade of Darkness anymore. Pity.
one of my favourite games of all time
this and the first unreal
Ok. I'm totally in love with you now. You play the best out of games, and let me remember my Youth with those awesome videos. Dude really, THANKS.
So, if you finally reviewed Rune...
Blade of Darkness must to follow next.
How about it? I would love to see you cover it in the future, LGR.
I remember RPG servers online. This game was AMAZING.
Your videos are the highlight of my week :3
I played the hell out of this game back then. The Dwarven Work Sword was my jam. It was fantastic at LAN parties too. I miss those days.
Man I'll never forget long night's in middle school playing on an iNi clan server working on my footwork with the dwarven work sword. I remember if you timed it right running forward and then strafing to the right the moment you swing it slashes the perfect angle to take someone's head off instantly. Felt so good to get the combat down.
16 MB Voodoo3 2000 - sounds like a joke now.. but back then you would sell your kidney just to get one of these :] ..
WraCkeR Thsi was the first graphics card I ever installed; heck, it was the first piece of hardware I installed. I took the risk of sudden static shock death to my family PC all so I could play Aliens vs Predator. It all worked out :)
Think of how it will be 20 years from now
I played it on my ati Rage 16mb
Now you would sell 2 to get one. And in 5 years you will need to sell your wife and kids
Well, having two kidneys is a more future proof decision than having the latest graphics card... think about it that way.
Such a relief to find out you appreciate Rune and Prey. Not everyone does. Both games were rxcellent and Rune is one of my favorites.
Rune was epic in MP. And the combat complexity of its time. If someone had a shield you needed to attack from the left. Today its nothing but back then it was awesome!
Old school games are appreciated nowadays ❤. I found the creators cared more about content regardless the graphics. Fun factor was and is 10/10. Today my son seems stressed with the DLC’s after buying a new dlc he ‘s not long before he needs another purchase I don’t seem him having fun like we used to.
Neat. This was uploaded on my birthday! Thanks, Clint!
I like this kind of videos of you the most. I also grew up at that time and love all these old games like crazy!
You should review; Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
OMG I remember playing that game and it was so good at the time when it came out. Nice review!
The Multiplayer of this is pure awesomeness! If you can find someone to play with, give it a shot!
it is an absolute crime this game never got a sequel
Rune II is available for pre-order
@Old Liquid and bears don't shit in woods.
Have you tried skyrim. Lol.
Jk, don't hate me
@Old Liquid why not?
It just got one, and it's a crime how bad it is :-(
It's awesome to see that a developer like Human Head has been around so long and is not only still making awesome stuff, but supporting their previous projects as well.
Amazing right? Human Head's about to enter their 18th year in game development. That's kind of absurd.
*****
Me neither. Had no idea rune was from them.
I remember playing this game upon release when I was about 6 years of age. It was such an amazing experience. I still remember swimming then killing crabs. Edit: That game was packaged so epicly.
woow you were 6 when you first played Rune, you're a true viking!
Sure is. The North representing.
I played it at 7 year old. First childhood's memories from this game were so amazing and horrifying. Most Nordic game!
Multiplayer was godlike and challenging. Arena with duel, deathmatch and CTF! And of course with dismemberment. A classic multiplayer game still alive now...
Omg...I need this game! This is Norse awesomeness!
Rune / Enclave / Drakan: Order of the Flame / Severance: Blade of Darkness / Gothic / Morrowind / Arx Fatalis
So much memories...
the graphics in this game actually look pretty good, although, it was from that amazing period in gaming when devs had access to powerful hardware and still remembered that color existed. (not that there aren't games with colors anymore, it just seems regulated to indie games. and Grow Home.)
mastrvidman15
For a game made in 2000 the graphics are the best I have seen for that time.
This review is the reason I have this game now. Saw it pop up for three dollars on the winter sale and I knew I had to have it.
Takes a moment to get use to the game as a whole, but man, once you do it's so much damn fun. Thank you for your video! Would've missed this game entirely if not for you and your channel.
Severance: Blade of Darkness still was the Dark Souls of the time... those were the days...
That game was such a great thing. After beating it with multiple times, I still spent lots of hours in the arena mode that came with the Gladiator mod. Getting to doing all those combos by heart wasn't exactly easy, but extremely rewarding.
And the shadow casting was something to behold. Even nowadays I often think "why are those shadows so edgy and eat up like half of my fps when I switch them on when Severance made it with no loss almost 20 years ago?". That was literally miraculous!
Great review of a game I've almost forgotten. I actually have the very same demo disc with Rune in it. I'll definitely be fetching this one on Steam. Thanks. You got yourself a new sub. keep up the great work, Lazy Game Reviews. -Nar
16MB Voodoo 3 back then, and now we have 16GB Radeon cards in 2023. 🤯
Psh. We have 24gb nvidia cards now.
I remember playing this game on my emachine PC. It was slow to start but once you got going it was a lot of fun. Might have to check it out on steam. Thanks lazy for the nostalgia trip.
Totally forgot about this one. It was a cool game from what I recall =)
I remember picking this gem up along with Giants: Citizen Kabuto for my PS2 waay way back! To this day, I have never managed to matched that random purchase with anything since then.
Great review! I used to play this all the time, your right the PS2 was crap compared to the pc game,I wonder if multiplayer still works for this because I loved all the weird maps people made in there, always some great stuff to keep your mind going for hrs trying to find hidden clues.
I played competitive PvP in this game and I was god damn amazing at it. Some of the best gaming experience i have ever had, up there with Quake 1. That tiny hammer thing was supposed to be bad but i could wreck someone in one swing because it had like 5 hit boxes around the arc of a single attack that you could all hit by moving the mouse around so all the hit boxes would be on the enemy's hit box. It looks like cheating if you don't know what it is. So many good memories.
Great presentation and a great video. You earned yourself a new subscriber.
Awesome to hear, thanks :)
This has a very special place in my heart, this is the first game that I turned on no clip in.
R.I.P. Human Head Studios.
I remember I had this on PS2 as a kid and played it from start to end in one night while I was at my grandma's house when she was babysitting me lol
This game reminded me of Drakan: Order of the Flame.
This, Drakan, Wheel of Time and Severance: Blade of Darkness: Awesome!
Just when i was looking for a great review of RUNE, you made it LGR! Awesome! Thank you!
Any mention of Hexen gets my approval.
I'm pretty sure I watch just about everything you post. You are so funny and honest.
Well, don't thank *US* for Odin. Thank the Nords for that. :y
Also, this game looks brutal and I'll definitely have to give it a go at some point.
Thank you for guiding me to the viking game I have always wanted, but never knew it existed.
This was during a simpler time for video games, when not every other game was a generic FPS.
GenosectKingRevived
When videogame programming was an art and not a way to win easy money.
Yes. Today, every game is linear, casual FPS. Every game is boring, open-world RPG. Every game is pointless simulation. Look at 90 games! Not monotonous at all! Haha! Every game was unique at this time! No
GenosectKingRevived if you call cod and and battlefeild a generic fps every other game. There are more amazing games than ever including fps from triple a games like overwatch to niche fps like insurgency. You are just suffering from survivorship bias where all the shitty generic games from the 90s and early 2ks no one remembers because they were shit.
johnny cool you just said every game is linear but also every game is openworld and boring. Cant even make up your mind. There are plenty of generic games but generic doesnt make something a bad or good game alone anyway.
plenty of dogshit games from the 90s / early 00's as well. you just cherry pick the best ones and call that era better to look cool
One of my favourites from the beginning of that decade. Played a heck of alot of Arena under the name "Melee" and even worked on a CTF-Jailbreak mod.
Really fun video buddy
So my sister, cousins and I played this game more than any other in our childhood. The sheer amount of fun games you can make up in multiplayer is incredible - from hide-and-go-seek (and murder) to playing soccer with a skull to playing in the huge arena with moon-jumping and only allowing throwing weapons. It was years before I even tried out the singleplayer.
Wow, I haven´t seen this game for ages now, the first time I saw it I couldnt help but think it was like some sort of crazy and more violent "Tomb Raider". Still looks god for a retro game though.
I did not know of this game prior the annoucement of the one currently in development. You made me want to play it! Thank you so much for the video, love your work as always.

I loved this game so much. Can't tell you how many times I replayed this.
Rune! best game ever :D
reminds me of two simple words... onaga coop...
One of my favorite games as well. Thanks for the video.
ooo I used to love multiplayer rune. Throwing weapons was so damn fun, that was my favorite part, one hitting some guy with a greatsword from across the map rofl.
Cory R rune mp was legendary. It was a LAN party classic in the early 00s.
Holy crap.. Creature Shock in the back! The nostalgia is strong with this channel
I love this game. Never play the single mode (well, if you count get into the intro and get out right after that is play, then yeah, maybe i do). The Multiplayer is just freaking AWESOME BEYOND AWESOME!!!
How did you not play the singleplayer first ?
I was young and don't learn english back then so i don't know what to do.
Aah. I was teen or tween when that came out.
Sorry, but first game that really force me to learn english is Star Wars KOTOR of Bioware. Still, why i need learn english for when all i need to do is chop enemy head with my axe ^^.
can't fault you
I am a very big fan of your videos and these awesome reviews .... I request you to please increase the number of reviews per week . I would also request you to cover games from handheld platforms , also please dedicate some episodes to retro fighting games as I have never seen you review a fighting game before .
Wow! I used to play this game back in the days. My favorite multiplayer map was 1v1arena. You guys remember that map?
Do people still play this game in multiplayer? I lost the cd over 10 years ago. If people still play I want to get back into it. Is Rune gold the best version? Dang this game brings back a lot of memories....thanks for the review.
there was all forms of Multiplayer that was very well executed. Arena, Team DM, headball, deathmatch, all was great
Gods I just frikking love the sound of LGR's voice. I could listen to him all day... Maybe I will.
How I long for those days...
As someone who used to work in a box-making plant... I can testify that thing was a pain in the ass to make. I'm glad somebody appreciates all that bad-ass embossing and matte-finish layering!
Sadly the are making Rune 2 that at this moment looks worse :(
Hope they fix it soon and make the legacy live again!
Great review, brother. This game looks great
Old Dark Souls
Nothing like Dark Souls at all.
+Adam Frisk Why not? How many that old good real-time fighting systems in games do you know?
I think they share some similarities.
Chobe The depth of combat is not there. Rune is pure simplistic hack and slash. No dedicated dodging, no parrying, no (a list of things)
Adam Frisk Haha, sorry, but Rune wasn't nearly that simple.. Have you ever played PVP there? Every weapon swing counts and the direction of it and your distance to the enemy was almost as much important as in a game of street fighter. Even in PVE, I remember some enemies that you have to bait until they attack, be perfectly out of range and counter. And even some attack direction were more efficient than others.
Of course it WASN'T a Souls' game. Something has to be improved, refined and upgraded in a game that is released 11 years later. :)
Chobe Ok. Neither comes close to Mount And Blade anyhow.
man you brought back so many memories!!!! thank you very much! I wish there were more games like this one these days. such a small amount have the same charisma that it's a shame.
Shit this video might be four years old and I might be really really hight, but this game lokks fkin cool as I'm tellin yiu m8
I bought this in 1999 and my crap computer couldn't play it so I had to return it. 😔
