@@DaniDoyle as a curiosity. Why no? (Unless with is farce) Since the dragon stone changes Corrins stats, and changes how he's used, he'll fufill the gameplay role of a jaigen (obviouslt not the character role of one).
Took me all day to finish this but after everything I can only conclude that Jacob is probably the most Jagen out of them. That fact will not stop me from always having heavy klutz maid favouritism.
It's definitely better in Birthright because of availability, but one of Felicia's unique niches is that, because of her class level shenanigans, she can guaranteed activate Takumi's manlet personal ability, which can be really hard for other primary-backpack units. It's a shame their actual support sucks so much, though, it makes me feel bad doing that to her. Hopefully she can become a billionaire in the inevitable divorce that comes from a rocky marriage with royalty
Actually I think that that trait is more helpful in rev than birthright personally since Takumi himself is better in rev than BR, meaning that you are more likely to be using him and benefiting from that. In fairness Jakob/Felicia's not the only one (reina, camilla, gunter azura, and corrin all can too) but it's nice.
I always thought that Jakob was a great jagen. I don't know if this is still a popular thing to do, but I remember back in the day a lot of people would instantly reclass jakob into a paladin. Really fun to use him as one.
@@revivalfromruins Depends on route, but either way I don’t see strategist Felicia as very valuable for the first heart seal personally in any route unless I’m gunning to pass on rally res to kana rallybot or something. I like daggers debuffs and with personal, she and corrin get work done with dual strikes. Plus in conquest you get the flame shuriken early enough where her damage just beats Jacob. Wyvern Elise is indeed pretty fantastic. An alternative is to feed her the master seal in conquest 11 real quick if conserving the heart seal. The classic choice is mozu, she can make do without it cause her str growth will keep up so she can actually do fine with javelin. But if you do go for it quick draw is great for conquest. I think samurai Odin is quite a fun choice if desired or if we really gaming, outlaw nyx lmao(not great, but interesting at least plus movement on pair up). My personal favourite choices outside conquest is Sakura for birthright and rev. Sky knight lets me bench subaki(lmao) and helps immedietely with fugas map and I can get access to rally speed, luck, magic all in one. Or I just heart seal corrin cause I planned something weird out.
I remember when the online features were active, I got Aptitude on Gunter and tried to solo Rev wirh Corrin as his Pair-Up bot. I reclassed him to Dread Fighter and he got to Ch 13 before the stat gap was too much
>Skill set called "The Gambler" >looks inside >no gamble Never used early Jacob/late Felica since I only play as male Corrin, but the other placements seem right to me. Also Salvage Blow should be great on Siegbert's map when you just have to kill the boss and only a few enemies spawn every round. I used Anna for that once and it made me a billionaire!
I'm glad I was not wrong all those years ago when I played Fates as male Corrin every time to think that late Jakob was irredeemably bad. By the time I did Revelation as my 3rd playthrough, I'm pretty sure I just used him as backpack only in grind battles only for the sole purpose of unlocking Dwyer and banished him to the shadow realm (or should I say deep realm?) immediately after
Billionaire!!! Thank you for the info and review! I now wanna try making Felicia into a glass cannon and Jakob into a Bowman!!! Awesome vid! Keep it up!
It’s genuinely fun and exciting to watch (and/or listen to) long-form detailed videos discussing Fire Emblem units in-depth by people much better at these games than I am. On the other hand, if I had a drink every time Dani says bolster I would have been dead mid-Corrin video. Cheers!
Obviously the Jagen of Fates is Gunter because he takes a dive off a bridge in chapter 3. He literally falls off. Jokes aside, this was a really thorough breakdown of the retainers and while I personally think Fire Emblem archetypes are silly and unnecessary, I agree with the assessment that Jakob fits the role of Jagen best out of the early game Fates cast.
I swear I have never seen anyone talk about Felicia and Jakob for this long lol. Early Felicia as Bow Knight is so extremely good (at least in CQ), I need to spread the word. Does great combat earlygame (not too dissimilar to even Pally Jakob...!) and then transfers to great utility from that point onwards w/ Rally Skill.
It is kind of cool how the different routes make units feel fundamentally different from each other... Felicia joins at the same time in br Rev and conquest, and has mostly the same options across all three routes but because of the game structures the viability of those options feel wildly different
Saying Gunter gains experience as if he promoted at level 5 is technically inaccurate; his internal level is considered to be 5 above his displayed level at all times, which is different than promoting at level 5 in Fates.
To be fair to Gunter. Without taking reclass into equation, I do think his weapon triangle advantage plus having Luna at level 5 does him a lot of favors that units like Subaki and Hana simply don’t get to enjoy. If you do manage to get him to LvL 15 for Armored Blow, then he is actually able to do very decent chip damage due to the player phase defense buff. And since you joked about the stat booster shop all being piled on Gunter. As someone who has done this before, it actually works out better than you might think. Haha.
Misread the video length as 20 minutes, but I couldn’t be happier with the actuality LOL Obviously this would be after the REView series - but (if you’d be interested/it’s not too much hassle) it could be helpful to make some videos on very basic concepts for Fates for anyone looking to put your tier list into use. Ex: experience. You’ve talked about it quite a bit, but a dedicated video could be nice. You could go into a few practical examples of units you have promoted early to benefit from the unique experience calc from Fates and to get promoted skills early (even if they aren’t end-game units/you plan to switch to their kid). I bring this up because I’ve heard multiple people mention Corrin’s “soft EXP cap” - which I’m guessing is just that Corrin becomes 5ish levels higher than enemies so EXP gained becomes pretty pitiful? But don’t actually know what level that happens at or if there are other considerations we should be mindful of as a result (such as purposefully feeding kills to other units during Branch of Fate since they’ll hit that “soft cap” regardless). Great video as always :)
I actually like putting Felicia into Bow Knight, it has laughably bad MUs in early rev but it’s surprisingly fun in CQ and you can also move on to Shining Bow blunt rotations once you reach C rank with her

If being good late game disqualifies one from being a Jagen, then what the hell is Fredrick from Awakening?
