      Like Aldas said in the video. Let's imagine a scenario where Mercedes pits Lewis, and Verstappen stays on the track, and the race directors just follow what's written on the rules and let it be a SC ending, or a restart with the backmarkers between them. Lewis would have lost the title in an embarrassing way, where he would just have freely given the title to Verstappen. Mercedes played with the rules, problem was the race directors just said "screw the rules, we want blood!"

    Being a Nascar fan this is why I love the Green-white-checker rule, if there is a yellow flag at any point until the last lap has begun, this ensures that there will always be 2 laps of green flag racing to ensure that the race does not end under yellow. I realize F1 does not have this rule and in this situation I would liked to have seen the red flag and a 5 lap race between Lewis and Max on new soft tires. I am happy for max winning but I agree Massi cannot change the rules on the fly regardless of what the circumstance is. Also Lewis should have given back the position for that first pass by Max.

It just created a precedent that "hey, if you're in a title fight in the last race, at the final laps, well, pray that whatever decision we take there help you, cause we are willing to send the rules into the oblivion for all the show and drama!"

      I remember feeling a sense of injustice after Bahrain, whether that feeling of injustice was right or wrong idk. But the next morning I simply decided to not discuss the matter because it is not fun feeling angry about it. Im afraid this is what people will have to do, its the run up to Christmas and most of us want some peace. I came into the race expecting Max to lose so if this ended this way I wouldnt be too miffed about it. I will say though that the bad stewarding caused a massive problem across the season, I have never seen anyone no matter what camp they are in agreeing with the decisions made by Masi's team, and this bad stewarding led to week-in-week-out controversies which got tiring quick. Im glad Max won the championship, and I don’t think that one situation in one race no matter how fraudulent it is.
      Im also glad Lewis did supposedly try to dissuade Toto from dragging this debacle further, as understandable as the anger can be, it is only made worse when you see the team bosses have a meltdown (a fully grown man with a wife and children mind you). Props to Lewis for accepting the loss no matter how he felt about it, the world keeps spinning, and I think it wouldve looked even more farcical if this championship was decided by a bunch of angry lawyers.

    I think Hamilton should’ve been told to give the position back on lap 1, but I think the fact he didn’t is coherent with Verstappen getting no penalty for Brazil or Monza lap 1 (I really hope for better consistency next year to keep these debates to a minimum). Hamilton gave Verstappen room on the inside, because he otherwise might’ve gotten a poor exit onto the next straight, and Verstappen could’ve passed him then. He was also being ultra cautious knowing the championship situation, and Verstappen’s driving standards in wheel to wheel racing.
    I do think however Hamilton could’ve done a bit better against Perez. His driving in the race otherwise was sublime, possibly his best performance of the season alongside Brazil. His start, pace, and tyre management were unparalleled.
    Regarding the SC situation, the FIA went against their own rules for the sake of the spectacle. Pretty shameful.

    Had Hamilton pitted for tyres and come out behind Verstappen Red Bull would have been shouting loudest to have the race ended behind the safety car. Michael Masi should lose his job as he has failed to follow the very rules that he is meant to uphold and has proved throughout the season to be not up to the job, where there was the opportunity to bring clarity (post Brazil) he somehow managed to confuse everyone.
    Post-season we have all been guilty of taking sides or just trying to make sense of it all however the person who was been most wronged deserves total respect for how he has handled himself with real dignity from the end of the race, a real class act and something that Hamilton haters will still not give him any credit for.

    I really appreciate this video and the fact the fans are speaking up. The problem for me is that the FIA decided to give the race to the driver in second before the safety car given the tire situation and relative speed of the 2 leaders . Masi and the stewards had to know this. Finishing under the safety car would have let the order that had been occurring for many laps up to that point be the final order. It would have been less exciting, but I doubt it would have looked as bad. The finish looks manipulated. They could have initiated a red flag and restarted giving both drivers a chance to get equal footing if they wanted to manipulate in a fair way. But now the race looks gifted to Max vs truly won by merit. I have nothing against either driver but the sport has lost integrity unecessarily. Also, I'd assume Masi will be replaced after this year, so it's really strange he'd yield to pressure of this sort, maybe he just thought it was the right thing to do. Let's see what happens with the FIA/stewards situation for 2022. F1 no longer seems to have the honor and integrity it did.

      Nah for me Liberty Media and FIA wanted Max for the good of the sport money wise. Max and red bull has the current largest active Fanbase. It's part of any highly broadcast sport, Lakers during their popular period with Shaq and Kobe eras had these match fixing, Barcelona vs Chelsea and others. Sometimes fixing games for result, works best money wise.

Then under safety car all of the lapped cars should have been let go at the start of the penultimate lap instead of only 5 of them right at the end

Just a farce that of course hurts the. 7 times WDC black guy Lewis s has a fantastic season w a less stellar car. And won the last 4 races All this max had a great season. It was tied up 369.5 to 369.5 Even w constant FIA penalties Lewis leads by 11 Sec and Masi penalize Lewis dropping all the cars between them and allowing max to line up beside max just one infraction after another. That was the most egregious of all the sham calls. Masi not excoriating Max to get behind race leader Blatant bias Invalidates race to me. Bi have watched racing for over 50 yrs This is corruption. No matter of his official title he needs to be removed for violating rules and spirit of rules should award Lewis a co driver of the year and ban Masi He did it he needs to be fined and sued for his bias illegal actions. I am a Max fan and I will remember this win for Max but the biggest thing I take from this race, I have become a fan of Lewis the man and the racer. What he did was show every young racer or just young person how to act with Respect and Class. @Bruce Collins You seem to forget that Red Flags and Safety Cars helped Max as well. Why do people have selective memories. Don't people remember Spa, where the restart was behind a Safety Car and ended behind a Safety Car. Lots of races have ended behind Safety Cars, there is no reason to bend rules to make cars finish on Green. That is not a sport, if you have to bend the rules to make a show.
      Lewis is one of the Greatest Drivers ever.... there is no question about that. Not only is he a good Driver, he also have been very active in promoting the sport and works hard to make the sport more inclusive of all people. Many people hate him for this, because racing has always been an very closed off club. In fact there are so many paid drivers now, it is kind of funny. I love the way Max drives he brings something new to the game, that hasn't been around for a long time. It is true that he sometimes takes things too far, but he is full bloodied and I love that....I prefer to watch Max drive, because it is Rock and Roll. I feel for Max, because the actions of the Race Director puts his race win into dispute. He is totally a worthy Champion... no question!! Anyone that has a bad thing to say about Max is an idiot. He was simply amazing this season, but in this Race there was only one King and he was robbed of his Crown....but not by Max (let's be clear).

      @@tonespeaks Except Max didn't benefit from that much safety cars or red flags. He got a free pitstop that gave him the lead in Jeddah. That's it. The track being to wet to race in Spa is not the same as a safety car that alters the outcome of a race, it's the lack of a race. Then we have Lewis who: repairs his car under red flag in Imola and gets a lap back which is something stupid like over a minute worth of lap time. He got to change his tyres that he previously locked up and went offroading with and he got to change his wing. Then in Silverstone Toto said he would have retired after the clash with Max if it weren't for the red flag where they could fix his car. We have the safety car in Brazil that eliminated Max's 5 second lead after Hamilton got through the pack and in the final race the safety car finaly went Max's way.

      @@suckieduckie I agree with you to a degree, but all the events that you are talking about.....that is racing!!!! What happened in Ahbu Dhabi is not racing. Max didn't get unlucky, the Race Director broke the rules so he could have a shot a winning. That is the difference between all the events. But don't take my word for it, just listen to all the other drivers, fans and officials. Even the FIA and F1 has stated it has tarnished the sport. Let's be very clear, Max is a worthy Champion, I'm one of his top fans and have been a fan from day one. What happened on that last lap, was a stitch up and it has tarnished the sport. What is unfair is that all the time is spent about the incident and not on the great driving Max did all season. I'm not that upset for Lewis, he already was the Greatest Driver of all time (holds all the major records). It is Max that has sufffered, because people feel he only won because of the intervention of the Race Director. I'm upset that the sport has been turned into a Circus. Even the Comedians are talking about the circus. Everytime Max is interviews the focus is about the last lap, this is totally unfair to all and FIA, F1 and Racing Community have to clear it up, because Max deserves 3 months of celebration.

      @@suckieduckie Not sure what the point of that is, but Red flags and Safety Cars are part of racing. The only issue in Ahbu Dhabi is that the Safety Car was used improperly by the Race Director. If that didn't happen, Max loses. it wasn't luck, it was a robbery....which Max benefitted from. BTW as I have suggested it was unfair to Max. He doesn't deserve questioning or the tarnished Championship. If you check Wikipedia, his win is noted with controversy. This is just wrong and FIA and F1 should apologize to all for it. This was not a mistake and that is the only issue.

    Sebastian Vettel, a 4 time WDC also made a statement on this:
    'Everyone has an opinion, I think leave the stewards alone, it’s tough enough as it is, ideally we’d like more consistency but there’s also a human side, so it’s probably difficult to get it 100 percent right, but it has to be our target, so we need to see what we can improve.'
    It's really telling when a man who has lived and breathed motorsport and Formula 1 is telling people to back off, that the overwhelming and inconsistent opinions of those sat on their sofas lambasting those who are there to ensure a fair and safe race are being unfair.
    This is perfect if you're a content creator, so much controversy, but interestingly it leads to some very biased nonsense. If you want a fair breakdown, go watch Chain Bears take on this, using facts and not opinions to comment on something people tend to know very little about.

    • @tonespeaks

      @Ayrton Sendit I kind of understand where you are coming from... but the truth is, this wasn't about people making mistakes. The rules have been the rules for a long time, when it comes to Safety Car. The whole purpose of the Safety Car is about Safety. If this had been a genuine mistake, I would 100% agree with your position. This was no mistake, Masi in his reply stated that he created this scenario, because he wanted the race to end on Green Flag. Masi has stated in the past that the rules state the lapped car must unlap themselves, before racing can resume....unless Racing Director says lapped cars can't unlap themselves. Those are the only 2 options the Race Director can legally choose. Carlos was in 3rd, but had backmarkers between him and Max, Masi only allowed the Backmarkers between Lewis and Max.... everyone else had to stay put. This is called unequal application of the law / rules, this is strictly forbidden in sport, in any sport.
      Let's be honest, even though Max won and for the record I'm a Max fan, he will have an asterisk on this race. When Max crossed the line, I was like yeah!!! After I heard that Masi bent the rules to Max and Lewis could duel... I was very upset. Race Directors are not allowed to pick and choose placing... you know who said that.....Michael Masi. Masi also stated in 2020 Nurburg , that all lap cars must pass the Safety Car before Safety card can be removed, because that is a rule. I want the best driver to win, even if there are lucky circumstances. One that is orchestrated by the Stewards or anyone else for that matter, is sickening. Missing a call here and there, I that is racing... but moving cars around so that the ones you want can duel is out, that is just wrong. Everyone should be rejoicing about Max winning the Championship, but here we are talking about Michael Masi creating a show that was neither fair or sporting. Lewis on 40 lap old hard tires and Max on fresh soft tires....there could only be one winner!!! Let's all be honest.... so the facts are clear, the rules were broken... by the Race Director.
      BTW I watched the Chain Bear video, they exposed the same issues. The rules are clear....this wasn't a misinterpretation.

      @@tonespeaks that doesn’t even make sense, if standard operating procedures enabled a racing finish there would be no need for this team-wide agreement to do what’s needed to finish on the green flag. Hopefully the new cars will see closer competition between multiple teams and thus the powers that be will feel less inclined to need to ‘create a show’.

    It was so easy to make the fight they wanted while still following the rules, just call the red flag and make Baku 2.0. "But the red flag wasn't needed!" so follow the rules and don't let the four cars undo the lap at the last lap of the safety car, or, if you allowed them, end it at the safety car. Would be anticlimatic? Sure. But we wouldn't be here talking about this.

    • @Jazzmaster0887
      @Jazzmaster0887 2 года назад

      You couldn’t be more wrong.
      If they had a red flag followed by standing start/one lap shoot out or a safety car finish, 100% that would have opened up another can of worms.
      The teams agreed long beforehand that it would be best for races to finish on a green vs a safety car if possible.
      Did that accident warrant a red flag? No. Throwing out a red flag would have actually manufactured the race even more so. Think about all the possible scenarios following a restart. With Lewis or Max winning after a restart, there would have been arguments for both sides.

    • @jorgelucasbarbosa3574
      @jorgelucasbarbosa3574 2 года назад

      A "gentlemen's agreement" does not overrule the rules. The safety car is part of the race, and ending a race with a safety car is nothing new, is part of the show. The way it was handled was even more manufactured than the red flag. Either Red flag, keep the backmarkers (which would get blue flaged, so who knows, they actually didn't even mattered), or end it in a safety car. Anticlimatic? Sure. But correct.
