  • Cody hopes to successfully tag out on another animal this year and make it his first successful Barbary hunt as well. While he prefers to shoot a nice ram he is willing to shoot a ewe to fill his tag and come home with some meat.
    The first weekend started late after they had trouble with the ranger. The team was late to the planned area for the day so they were forced to back off and hunt another area. After having no luck glassing all morning they finally spotted a herd of Barbary in the evening. The guys fought the sunset and to get in a position to stalk the group. The Barbary would not give Cody a good opportunity as they were on the move. After a few setups, Cody finally gets set up and takes a shot at a ewe. Cody ended up missing and hitting a rock. Frustration built up in Cody after makings several mistakes.
    On the second weekend, Nick and Cody are ready to hit it hard and tag out. They get to the spot they missed out on very early in the morning making sure to beat everyone there. Cody is facing a lot of adversity after getting some unexpected in-reach messages that morning and fights his emotions throughout the day. Nick spotted a group early in the morning and they take off. They position themselves in the direction they believe the barbary will go, jumping from hill to hill. Finally, Cody and Nick spot the one and take their shot. Cody connects and the ewe goes down on a Yucca.
    After going all the way to the top they must go all the way down with a barb.

    Nice Job. I hope to get picked for one of these hunts someday. As a resident of NM I still can't believe how hard it has been to get picked for Barbary.

      Thank you for watching. They sure are a blast to hunt, but drawing can be difficult sometimes. They have increased tag numbers this past year, so hopefully it increases your chances and you pull a good tag!

      @@gilamonsteroutdoors I found out yesterday that I got picked for Units 29/30 for this bucket list hunt for this old man! Do you have any tips?

    • @gilamonsteroutdoors
      @gilamonsteroutdoors  3 месяца назад +1

      @kevzzz1186 heck yeah! The best piece of advice I’ll give you is don’t sleep on the 29 area of the units. 30 is full of big mountains and good sheep, but those mesa and hill areas in 29 hold some good ones too. You can cover more country in 29 and find a good sheep!

      Thanks for watching! It was hard to identify them since we never had hunted sheep before, I think we were just excited to have the opportunity to hunt them! Good luck on your hunt!

    So what’s the deal with the supressor?

    • @gilamonsteroutdoors
      @gilamonsteroutdoors  5 месяцев назад

      Since they’re legal to hunt with in New Mexico, they are nice to use because the gun shot isn’t so loud. And in the event that you need a follow up shot, you’re more likely to have a better chance with a suppressor. It wasn’t really needed, but we didn’t want to redial the rifle in since we had it in from the beginning!

      Thanks for watching! Didn’t see too many rams but we wanted to fill the freezer. Next time we will definitely be holding out for big rams!
