Watching you "fail" (not taking an irresponsible shot) makes me feel so much better about my "failures", can't even tell you. Most hunters don't post videos like this. Thanks for teaching us all!
It really does a disservice when presenters only show their “greatest hits”. People come away thinking all hunters care about is killing, when some of my favorite memories are when I couldn’t get a shot. I could probably trade my gun for a camera and have just as much fun, except my belly would be empty.
I also love that he shows the cooking side, I like making the food as much or more than killing it. Seems to make the experience more complete when you see it go from on the hoof to on the plate.
I had to pass up two deer on thanksgiving because they were running on the other side of some brush then two yesterday because they were running out of range, it hurt to let them walk after hunting so much this season without getting one but I don’t regret what I did
I’ve let Whitetail walk that were bigger than the biggest Whitetail I’ve ever taken because I didn’t have a clean shot. I know the feeling of disappointment and also pride in responsibility and remorse for the beautiful animals God has blessed us with

Two things i highly appreciate about this episode - you made alot of cuts between the shots but we still managed to understand how you approached the animals (like where are you located in that area and where are they). And i think its super important to just how the failure that takes place while hunting. The post production on this didnt make it appear staged.
This comment might get buried because this upload was a year ago but im glad you uploaded/produced it.
Failures are a part of life and a part of hunting. Not knowing when an episode will end with success makes me feel like I am on the hunt myself. Thank you for the realism and the ethical decision making, Steve.

You know what I love the most about this show, it shows realistic hunting expeditions. You win some, you lose some but the pursuit and journey is the most important. Oh yeah, plus he's not sitting on top of a tree while a feeder's been sitting there for weeks fattening everything up. Guy's actually hunting!
So interesting to see the change from the first season to current, the man hasn’t changed but I’m thankful the camera resolution has!

The first meal I cooked for my wife (girlfriend at the time) was quail. Worked out well for me!
I like that he shows the unsuccessful hunts. Would've been easy to not turn this into an episode but he showed how bad he had it instead

I think there's a place for both the attitudes of music, but I think the chill music much better fits Steve's personality
Regardless of what type of music one likes to listen to...the stuff that was in these earlier episodes does not fit very well at times

I work in a nuclear power plant, and he's right. Gamma rays are pretty hard to see haha
It's so fantastic to witness a ethical hunter in action. I recall my father's many times instructions on ethics in respect to hunting and watching your work is the very definition of Ethical Hunting. Thank you. I enjoy every minute!
I would like to say, I appreciated the spotlight effect to show where the ram was, previous episodes I found myself struggling with the cuts and shots to find where Steve was looking. Thank you MeatEater for helping us watching be closer to the hunt and train our eyes better!

As someone who's never hunted before. I find that watching meat eater and watch Steven's stance on hunting and being a responsible hunter makes me eager to get out there and go on my first hunt. I like the idea of hunting to survive and stop buying this over priced processed shit in the stores. Steven is an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others. Heres to a new generation of safe responsible hunters
Mate this was one of my favourite episodes. I loved it. The arduous hunt, rough terrain, elusive game. That's hunting! Awesome.
Even if the hunt isn't successful, it's still the hunt that drives you. This is better than watching a hunting video on a game ranch where the animals don't stand a chance. You hunt in the true wild. That's why your videos are amazing.

Looking at the earlier seasons of meat eater, it is interesting to see how the show, and steve has evolved into the best hunting show of our era, if not ever!
Hands down, my favorite non native specie to guide for and to hunt. When you get one, you have earned it! Hunting them is like a mini sheep hunt, in that It’s hard work, but you get to take a shower and sleep in a real bed at night 🙂 Short of drawing a sheep tag or doing an Alaskan/BC hunt, I’ll take these any day as a real challenge.
I see 15 to 30 auodad on our lease in Real county at our feeder. They are an easy kill. In watching this episode I can see it being difficult. Just shot a 30 inch this year with 12.5 on the base

as a moroccan, i have seen aoudad in their normal habitat in the atlas and honestly it’s awesome seeing them effortlessly climb the rock faces

same i got it last weekend but i don't think it's 100% accurate
I’ve been using it out west for years and it has put me into places others wouldn’t go because they thought it was private or there were no ways to access. Unfortunately for me others are using onX too, for years it was my secret weapon. But hey if they are willing to figure it out like I’ve done then I’ll be happy to share my camp any day. We use it also for hunting pheasants ducks and geese. It gives me a name to talk to to get permission, so there is that too. Lots of ways to use it.
I think this hunt deserves a second try. I would like to see it in the season 9 part 2
I like how he eats more gourmet than most of us to on our anniversary dinners... but also doesn't bring a fork and eats with a stick haha
As a British guy, it's very awkward to hunt over here, I would absolutely love to go buck hunting in the hills, feel that deep seated natural urge satiated
I'm a Texan, we would absolutely love to have you. Nothing on the planet beats the thrill of the hunt. I live on the border of Arkansas and Texas, and I hunt till I fill my tags in both States. Few things in life taste better than something you stalked, killed, and butchered yourself.
Good news for you as that you could be in TX in 10 hours and into Aoudad country the next day. For guys that can’t/won’t spend $20k and up on a sheep hunt, these are much more affordable and very challenging. Best hunt in Texas, beats a Whitetail hunt any day of the week.

@@metalmurcielago miserable, just getting an air rifle is a whole ordeal, and hunting small game like squirrel etc with a bow or xbow is illegal, everywhere I think or most places atleast, to own an actual bonefide firearm is a huge amount of police interviews, character statements etc. Then getting permission to hunt is another ordeal. You get the picture haha

That area of West Texas - doesn’t get much rougher. Love that country.
I've hunted those also, up in the northern parts of Texas above Big Springs. On the third day I peeked over the edge of a cliff. I found one just waking up from it's bedding area. I made an almost straight down shot and killed my only ram.
They are indeed hard to hunt in their natural environment. I saw quite a few on that hunt. But usually when I spotted them, they were looking at me.

Really enjoyed this one. I've been wanting to see Steve hunt Sheep for ages, particularly the big horns. They look like such a difficult hunt. Cheers Meateater for releasing the old episodes, I've enjoyed the podcasts and the Netflix eps, excited to see these as they come out.
I went with a disabled friend of mine to a "high fence" hunt in Texas. He watched a "heard" of Aoudad in front of his blind for over an hour. He did not shoot because he didn't know Aoudad was such a trophy animal (Thought the were just some goats. LOL). He took a trophy Axis deer that hunt with his crossbow and I will always remember that hunt.

10/10 loved the quail bonus hunt
Just went to SW Texas on my first Aoudad hunt and was lucky enough to be successful on top of a Mesa peaking at 3900 feet above sea level, all while being pregnant! It's such a different way to hunt for me, especially being from Michigan! Thank you Steven for being an idol and motivator for me to explore new places and game!
You came down here in the winter months. You are LUCKY to find any Aoudads.

Audad make great wall mounts, but the quail is a lot better tasting. A lot better.
The music sure got a hell of a lot better, and more appropriate for the endeavor, than the first season's.

When Steve cant find an animal, you can see his obsessive side come out(the wishbone) lol. Its really awesome to see that passion
If we always got our quarry every time we went out on a hunt we would never learn a dam thing about the animals we hunt, or probly any of the other life lessons that can only be learned there. " failures" keep us humble. If we never fail we never truly learn. As always keep it up boys!!

I have hunted that ranch for many years, got two good mule deer and a really good aoudad. That cave is in a really cool canyon just about a dry creek bed.
Damn that some big and ruff country, here I thought Texas was pretty much flat with a few hills.

Hey Steve! ... I think you need to up your game! Think about the use of a military-grade heat-sensing drone to find your prey. Then, have available, a night- vision riflescope. Because the opportunity did occur! ... it's just that, you were only prepared to pull the trigger during the daylight hours. At any rate, you were able to find them and you were to pursue them to where you got real close to almost putting one of those sheep down. 👍
The amount of times Steve says "this right here, is goooood camp food". Close enough for a drinking game.
