    the problem with this patch is that pot was buffed, the damage nerfs weren't big enough, and they forgot zato, but it isn't that bad really, people are overreacting, again

    What really rubs wrong me about Season 4 of Strive is how it feels like ASW just picks favorite with their balance.
    Like, as an Asuka player, i get it. 5 cubes on demand was not healthy; yes, the character wasn't the strongest, he shouldn't have gotten just nerfed, but there's a good and bad ways for characters to be strong or weak. I understand where they were coming from, it was about the execution, not the idea. But it's _undeniable_ that the character got nerfed intentionally as well.
    And that would _fine,_ but that's not how _every_ character was treated. Characters like Axl, Jack-O', Millia, Zato got nerfs to like one thing that might've been toxic but barely anything in compensation. Meanwhile characters like Sol, Ram, Pot got completely changed, and then you have GL and Nago who just sorta got away with murder.
    And i'm just sitting there, looking at the list of characters, and the ones that got to be complete monsters were generally characters that were _already_ on top. Characters who should've _just_ gotten nerfed, without any compensation for it. Some of them characters who have been on top since release. Many of which had really, really stupid win conditions like Ram swords or BT on block.
    As someone who gravitates towards the more technical characters, seeing them get pity buffs or just straight nerf after nerf while new ways to run offense braindeadly are born out of neglect and nothing is done to improve defense (teehee, Deflect Shield) is so, so, so frustrating. Like who wanted the Jack-O' kick dash over her 2D? If you want to nerf HC clone, then just do it, why change j.2K, nobody asked for it! Who looked at Nago and thought "This dude needs a sniper rifle"? _WHY are you giving May more damage AND more mobility?_
    Please, ArcSys, just nerf characters. It's fine! Nobody is playing Strive for "satisfying damage."

      Yeah, there is clearly bias when it comes to character strengths. Most notably, the big bodied characters and then some like Ram, Sol, HC

      ​@@mikhail21 It's really stupid because the weaknesses big body characters should have are obvious, but ASW insists on patching them out time and time again.
      Meanwhile if you play a setplay/zoning character then you must have your "oppressive" offense kept in check (despite doing less damage while taking more, working more to do it and having less defensive mechanics) because God _forbid_ people learn a bit of counterplay or have to block for a little.
      I'm just left wondering why they even make such characters if they hate the idea of defense being a part of the game so much and just want everyone to die in 3 hits.
      It's almost like their idea of "interactions" only includes people _actually_ getting hit (which is terrifying to think but might be true considering how long BT chip went untouched).

      It's a net buff relative to the last patch though? Millia's problem is not that she doesn't do any damage, she has some damaging routes. Getting into a loopable mixup is just too situational for the amount of risks she needs to take to get in with her health.

      ​@@Alex-rh5jo it isnt shes even worse, 21 hp doesnt do anything, when ur getting over killed by 80 dmg or so. Kapel still isnt as good as season 3, its just working now as intented (bad), the dmg nerf on every main combo tool is rough, because she cant kill high health chars without getting bursted 5 times per game and at high level ur mix is useless against deflect os. So the dmg nerf equals alot more interactions than you would think.

    As someone who only ever plays 1 character out of loyalty, Asuka getting nerf after nerf were very, sad. They nerfed his spell speed after season 2, then the cube hitbox, then the cube gameplay itself, meanwhile, almost everyone has known that most of his cube and pressure are super fake unless you got super good at suffle that deck, your cube games mean little unless it actually hit the opponent. Deck 2 still bad, deck 1 still got no change, and deck 3 got shafted, and they also nerf the super cube. Can we just get the old cube speed back at this point? Or are we going to see even worse qol change to him?

    Arcsys has a hard time nerfing high health, high damage characters in Strive because they balance with the (usually correct) view that movement disadvantages have a highly negative effect on character power, when they're actually only of minor importance, especially relative to their place in other fighters and even old GGs. It's funny because they designed the game in a way that de-emphasizes spacing and movement, but they don't seem to recognize it.

    I just think it's very sad what they've done to the difficult characters. Zato's been kneecapped for a year and a half now. Asuka, the most complicated and intricate character in the game, receiving nerf after nerf (which is confusing, cause counterplay is barely explored by most players... Yes there was infact something you could press there you are not facing gobou you're facing ILoveAsuka228 on floor 10). Jack-O spent 2 months in QoL hell and required an apology patch to revert. Chaos... Is an exception because that kit should've never been in a fighting game to begin with 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾.
    It's just sad to see the characters you have to sit down and dedicate especially long amounts of time and experience for get treated like that.
    Mainly Zato. Especially Zato. Zato is a genuine fucking blight to the idea of a balance team that listens.

    They’re factoring in the new health buffs with the new numbers for sure. Just the raw attack numbers won’t mean anything on their own. But at the same time, if you want to actually decrease damage in the game then they could have just kept the damage of the moves the same as season 3 and just buffed health. That way it’s still proportional to how it was but just toned down.
    Also why Ino got more damage nerfs than Johnny I have no idea, and it seems like Ram got nerfed more than every other top tier

      Yep! As a Ram and I-No player, I’m pretty sad right now. We had three Goldlewis’s in Top 8 of CEOTaku, yet he got wrist slaps compared to Ram, who while being somewhat egregious, has never really had competitive dominance like that. It’s all just bizarre. Plus, she got reworked into a completely different character, while Pot gets to be Frankenstein monster with his Karas AND his new Armor, which makes no sense. Nevermind Nago still Nagoing everywhere. EDIT: And they didn’t touch Happy Chaos at all, despite him STILL being a bit of a menace in the hands of players like Jack!

    When I heard "Emergency Patch", I expected the devs to finally pump the breaks on the game a bit. Instead, this patch has been absolutely flacid in the goal of reducing damage while buffing characters into having even stronger uninteractove steamrolling offense and pressure. I'm genuinely so burnt out of Strive's uncompromising inability to allow more than like meaningful 2.5 intersctions per round.

    The new patch actually hasn't felt that bad. I definitely feel like the games are longer, which is nice. They succeeded more in giving everyone more strings and conversions too, which again is nice. The big problem is that the devs are obviously picking favourites: Half the roster will delete your healthbar off of five/ six hits, meanwhile the other half has to pour their entire kits into dealing even a fraction of the damage; In that regard, a lot of games feel shorter actually. "Confusing" is definitely the way I'd describe it, because it's like they're trying to do one thing, but they can't bear to nerf their favourites. And clearly someone over there likes high damage. The worst part is how difficult and intricate characters are treated compared to someone like Goldlewis, who only ever receives nerfs through universal system changes. Zato, Asuka, Millia and Bridget should all see healthy changes, but nah, maybe next patch. It sounds like I'm dooming, but really I'm having fun with the game rn, so it's chill-

      Goldlewis has received plenty of nerfs. The only thing that made him overtuned was system mechanics.
      Goldlewis is also an extremely intricate character.

      @@tylercafe1260 Bridget deserves more nerfs is a crazy statement. She's genuinely awful, like it's hilarious. I'd argue that besides a couple bad balancing decisions however, the game's actually in a better state than it's been in in a minute. Game gets bigger every year, and it holds up at Evo nicely. All I could ask for are GL and Johnny nerfs, some low tier buffs, and some server bug fixes and the we're set.

    Characters I liked got majorly reworked and I lowkey just stopped caring for the game because of it. There was so much cool routing with Sol throughout the different versions and now it's all gone

    It’s crazy to me that a majority of the more unique playstyle / high skill characters like: Millia, Zato, Faust, Asuka, Axl, Test etc. are often underpowered and kept that way for the majority of the games lifespan, while the big body, easy, basic, and high damage straightforward characters are ALWAYS and have ALWAYS been consistently good for the majority of strive’s lifespan. Nago, Ram, Sol, May, Leo, Goldlewis are prime examples of this.
    These characters have consistently been good and have STAYED this way for the majority of Strive. It honestly feels like this is what they want. They want a brain dead high damage and fast fighting game for babies. They’re afraid of the high skill characters ( Aside from Chaos who possibly can’t be fixed due to his core design ) from being good and dominating.
    They don’t want mixup characters, zoners or any unique / skillful character to be good because it will go against their garbage design philosophy. They’re so scared of Millia and Zato being good even when they have to work three times as hard as every other character. They most likely don’t want new players to be frustrated by those characters so they’re kept from being good as to make the experience for the these new players better.
    They don’t care about Guilty Gear’s legacy player base, hence the dumbing down of its gameplay, mechanics, and characters to reach a much wider audience. The gameplay, design philosophy, and balance are reflected in this. So the less played, skillful and less popular characters by default are left to stay bad and rot while the brain dead, overrated and popular characters keep getting to eat and stay good every patch. It’s been almost FOUR years and this game is still an unbalanced mess because they don’t know what they’re doing. Or maybe they do and it’s all on purpose. I’m not sure which is worse.

      from the standpoint of "game meant to appeal to a wider audience" this kind of design philosophy does make sense, even if it feels twisted. Consider balance decisions around this premise: "how does a completely new player (target audience) feel when dealing with/using this move?" and you might find that most of these balance changes align themselves to the response to this question.

      Pretty normal thing though if I recall. Johnny, bedman, sin, a.b.a all felt weak for a while. People thought HC was bad too at first.
      Just how fighting games usually go, it takes a long time to really figure out a new character, so gotta be careful buffing them before people know how they really play

      ​@@raviolibackstab6165 as someone who played most of them on release, dizzy is by far the weakest, not necessarily because her kit is completely ass, but also because in the game's current state, everyone just has way more going for them. Dizzy doen't have the damage, the mix, the pressure, the neutral and on and on (also WoL is prolly the main reason why she's so bad at everything else)

    Shoutouts to pot Garuda going full circle on balancing. Like we started with an advancing guardcrush with zero pushback, then they buffed fd to add actual counter play, and then a few seasons later make it a projectile with zero pushback because he can’t kara it anymore, and then give him his Karas back but keep the properties the same. So now we have an advancing guardcrush with zero pushback… again.

    TL;DR - this patch sucks because they buffed damage then reduced damage but didn't completely revert damage back to s3 numbers. The usual top tiers got at best a slap on the wrist instead of substantial nerfs while low/bottom tiers either got nothing or overall nerfed. So the "meta shakeup" we all hoped for never happened, in fact it might've made the meta more rigid.
    That sounds about right, yeah?

      Yes but I do believe every character outside of like 3 are very strong rn. The difference between the top tiers and below that aren’t even that big. I just wished the patch was more consistent… the damage is higher than it was in S3 but they have said countless times how they wanna lower it. U can’t patch only SOME characters and expect the game to not be inconsistent

      @@DomiWurld Yeah you're right in that most of the roster are strong in the game, similar to s3. Personally, I wish they'd done more of a meta shakeup. I'm fairly positive Leo, May, and Nago have been rigid top tiers since the dawn of the game and constantly seeing the same few characters in top 8 for big tourneys gets boring after a while. I'm gonna be sad if EVO 2025 top 6-8 is mostly mirrors, cuz it feels like that's where we're headed. As everyone tends to say, I can kinda see what they were going for, but the execution was lacking.
      In regards to the damage inconsistency it's hilarious imo. Every time I'd see near TOD's it was funny to always respond with "to allow for more interactions, we are buffing defense all across the board" -ArcSys.

    I think moves doing more than season 3 makes sense for most cases because of the "universal" hp changes (Bridget and ESPECIALLY Asuka should not have been left out of this), overall compared to the hp the damage values on nerfed normals are about the same as season 3. I do think the dev team doesn't really think about how new routes will affect damage outcomes, but the patch overall is def lower damage than season 3 and DEFINETLY lower damage than last patch, esp against chars like Ram and May (Even if you can still explode like a mf). Anyways #SaveAsuka

    I've always heard horror stories of Arcsys balancing. This is my first Arcsys game and boy oh boy, this is fucked up.
    I don't even think it's an incompetence thing anymore because some of the stuff is just way too obvious. It seems like they actively want this to be the game.
    At the very least, it's better than 4.0 by a mile and I'm still hooked, but damn. Have some respect for your player base, Arcsys.

      "Respect for the playerbase" went out the window when they released Strive with a design philosophy serving as an antithesis of older games, actively alienating most of the older fanbase in order for "mainstream appeal". I don't think the current playerbase will be treated much different if they can squeeze more out of the game.

    honestly, i think the patch is fine? Not the best, not the worst. So Potemkin gets away with murder for a while, big deal- he'll get what's coming to him. I play Jack-O and the OKI nerf sucked, but it didn't kill her- and now she's got it back, so i'm sitting pretty. Goldlewis probably still needs more nerfs... but honestly, I can't help but feel like people are overreacting all the time with this one. They wanted to change a ton of stuff, and they did- damage got too high, but they brought it down- the only things that bothered me were the bugs that should have never made it into the game- which were the things i was happy to see get fixed with the emergency patch. I just feel like everyone goes crazy over small things. Like, the week before the patch everyone would scream about how pot was ruined forever and awful- then he gets karas back, people realize he WAS buffed by the first patch, and now he can do all his buffed moves sliding too- and NOW they scream that he's the #1 problem- like, he was already good when they were saying he was awful and crying "Justice for Pot!". I feel like folks always rush in mad and then figure out what they're mad about later...

    FD needs a pushback buff. Too many characters have meterless kara solutions against it and Deflect Shield doesn't interrupt any forward movement.
    Johnny should NOT have that much health.
    Ram's sword throws should NOT start active in front of her while being such a high level projectile. They should at least add a hurtbox to cover it until shortly after it launches.

      @@CompressionPolice yes finally a decent take. fd really needed more pushback. though I don't think ram needs a hurtbox increase, that would kinda defeat the purpose of being a midrange character. instead I think they need to massively nerf her little rock. that thing controls the pace of the match way to much, besides, ram is definitely a character that doesn't need a neutral skip

    Why am I allowed to teleport across the screen as Johnny? I very rarely see other Johnnys in tower or park but, when I do, the whiplash is insane.
    I also tried picking up Millia. Worst mistake of my life. I don't think this patch is the worst, season 3 with the HKD on WA was far worse. The 6P changes feel pretty nice imo. The way some of the characters have been neglected blows my mind though.

    This patch isn’t that bad but it’s the worst one so far. Tbh, its Arcsys lmao. I just sit back with a drink and laugh because they will always do some foolishness with balancing out any of their games. Buff the funny shadow man.

    I'm a very casual Chipp player. What got me back to playing is that they increased the skill floor and ceiling of my character with the tightrope addition
    However, what's not fun is that I can run into a Johnny or Slayer and they can sniff glue for the same results of me labbing out my new toy.

    Like, I get tit that her chestnut pseduo infinite was cancer, and that it deserved a nerf, but how do you not give a bottom 5 character anything in return.
    She pretty much lost one of the only good things she has access to

    There’s no issue with reworking a character how much ever time into a season if she was boring or degenerate. The issue is they didn’t make her fun on either side of the coin & still refuse to let her recall swords. This *was* supposed to be THAT patch anyways & I think many expected with such a powerful change that’d happen, but arcsys didn’t do that.
    The entire cast was supposed to get new toys. Regardless of need. It was supposed to switch things up in a GOOD way & keep us satiated for a while. They made fake resource characters better & hit the actual resource characters in a negative way.

    Nagoriyuki's rework is such a failure IMO. It's made him less fun, less dynamic, more obnoxious to play against, more difficult to balance IMO, and when they stated they wanted to increase interactions, they gave him half screen normals dealing almost a quarter of your health, depending on defense/guts, making him an glaring outlier.
    Unfortunately, making his H normals uncancelable has made balancing them harder because there is no nuance to them. They either hit or they don't. Old H normals, even at level 2, gave Nago consistent oki, conversions, plus frames combined with Fukyo, and frame traps when blocked. These can't offer any of that. Just damage. And it HAS to be dumb because otherwise they are probably wack. With the chip damage getting nerfed, the damage truly is all they have making them have any value. I really just wish they'd go back to the way they were and just nerf them from there.
    I do have to say that comparing his H normals chip damage before the Guard Crush change to BTs is a lil crazy. BTs are typically different combinations of combo starter, combo extender, plus, Guard Crush, high damage, huge chip, fast, safe, overhead, low, big, and even low recovery. Nago's H normals were exceptional base S4, but BTs are a whole other level.

    14:30 Bro this is what a lot of us are saying. At this point just give us back season 3 Ram. A lot of us don't like new Ram, even when she was top 1. Should have just nerfed old Ram and been done with it.

    I wish that they would just do more smaller patches and do some finetuning, maybe talk to pro players about more or less used moves of their character and make them useful in their kit. For example Zato & Ky's 6K who have 28 / 25 frames of startup and mediocre reward if you hit them, can't even remember when I've seen a Zato use 6K and for Ky I've seen enough people just fd to push him out of range or just mash out of it.
    I think the patch isn't that bad but I can't wrap my head around some of the reasonings. giving Ky more hitstop on se/cse for "more powerful oki" When the oki was already ok, not threatening but safe. Now it's "more" safe and not threatening because we still don't have moves to open opponents up.
    Still don't know how to feel about FA/DE changes, in the corner you can still blow up most people so that didn't change, but midscreen due to the gravity/blowback changes means even more fishing with f.s. for hits so you can atleast convert with WA/RTL for Wallbreak.

    Patch isn't that bad imo, their ideas for the direction they're going with the changes isn't bad IMO it's just bad because of lack of testing and resources(?)
    Also as you mentioned the changes aren't even across the cast
    Really do hope they fix up season 4 before Unika and Lucy drop because having Pot and Goldlewis be this strong is kind of insanely unfun to play against
    Not to mention I find it really disturbing how when you look at a tier list all the good characters are braindead while the characters that take more time end up lower hereby not being enticing to play, not expecting this to change sadly
    Not expecting the game to get any better from here tragically

    And then you look at Pot and Johnny, nerfs better keep coming, what they did to Ram feels appropiate to do to the rest of top criminal damage dealers at the very least
    And please lets try to get rid of wall bouncing, being in the corner is bad enough

    I'm sorry ram players but I like that ram isn't in the top 5 anymore
    She has been in the top 5 for 4 years and she is still a good character so you don't really have a reason to complain
    They didn't give you the Zato and Asuka treatment

    Anyone else notice whenever arcsys adds dlc characters that appeared in xrd they almost always are under tuned just to later massively buff them to be overly annoying or strong sometimes both Johnny,Sin,Baiken,Bedman,Elphelt,and now Dizzy were all at one point considered or still are underpowered

    onsistency in updates should be important, i mean to change some characters and leaving some with none (specially if they NEED changes) is a weird move and often times detrimental to anything really. But to "nerf" characters just to actually buff them or leave them almost unchanged is even weirder like, Those nago changes and Johnny Ensenga only nerf was the most funniest and confusing thing i've seen come out off Strive patches.... I hope when Venom releases characters who got NOTHING in november get some love (Make Gazelle Step INVINCIBLE PLS, also Still Growing DO SOMETHING USEFUL)

    Since the beta the damage has been too high, nobody ever said this game needed more damage or offense but after 4 years that’s all they keep adding.
    When they added wild assault I dropped the game it’s just going in the wrong direction constantly, incessantly

    At this point Arcsys can do whatever they want with the game. This doesn’t come from a place of hate or complete apathy but of contentment. Arcsys has given Testament everything I asked for stain pop on grab, removed the front hurt box on grounded S and H Grave Reaper, and they even made stain last longer as a little bonus. All this plus they left me enough room to still down play if I wanted to.
    I also want to give a special thanks to every pro player putting Test bottom 2 in all your tier lists. Never would’ve made it to back to mid tier without y’all.

    "No reason for nago to do that much damage" Why not? The patch is supposed to lower damage, sure. But doing a lot of damage is Nago's identity as a one-shot character. Blood level 3 Nago is probably a mid-tier character: he takes Millia damage, has few neutral options and no approaches. The advantage is that blood level 3 Nago can be situationally a higher tier character, and the player has some control on when to enter that state.
    Devs definitely play favourites, but I think it's natural that some characters are naturally strong due to their core mechanic (HC's gun) or aesthetics (Nagoriyuki is a boss character). While Nago is still a strong character, he's also the weakest he's ever been.
    Idk, everyone's reaction seems dramatic. Maybe there is some merit to that, seeing as the initial patch did not deliver. But the new patch is a step in the right direction and that's all that matters.

    I think you are totally disconsidering the general defense buff that all the cast have, just loking at the raw damage number is not a very honest way to judge the overall damage. Besides, I don't think they want to revert the changes, they clearly want to keep their objectives with season 4 but this patch was made just to tone down where they missed the mark. Also it was a very very rushed patch, they wont fix all of the issues.
    And to be fair they stated that they still want game to have high damage in matches, but just to happen less times (if this is the correct way to achieved is another question).
    I think this rant missed the mark by a lot.

The fact the dmg still higher WITH the health buffs is an issue esp since this was an emergency patch....obv not goin to fix everything but still reverts would have been best. besides that we still have the problem with inconsistent balancing with some characters getting left out.

    It’s the FGC. People are gonna be unhappy no matter what they do. Unless it’s your character being buffed. Find me a game right now where there isn’t drama around their game in its current iteration. Last I checked it isn’t sf6, tekken, mk1, dbfz or Granblue. Kof15 just changed but I’m sure people are already unhappy there too. But all that said balancing a game shouldn’t be that difficult. It was known since the start that strives damage was too high. I would then look at stats over player usage overall at all levels and then determine if it’s just tier list bias(cause let’s be honest, tier lists and online personalities do influence a lot of people in who they play) or if there’s legit issues with character design. Johnny and sin and pot were all considered weak characters for some time and you need to be careful how you handle them. Cause we’ve seen how nerfs can “kill” characters in the community bubble. Obviously fix blatantly broken things, but also look at why some characters do well and try to instill some of those qualities in lesser used or weak characters. Frame data, hit boxes, new routes can all be used to make a character feel better or more in line with other characters without having to mess with damage numbers too much

    None of what youre talking about is how balancing works. Not everything needs to be touched, tons of shit has cascading effect. There were a lot of sweeping universal changes. They made dmg adjustemnts ro the worst offenders while still keeping to their goals.

      He did gets buffs, just not directly. The fact he didn't get any damage nerfs is good. And he plays well into pot, so while pot is insanely stupid rn. He still has a good match-up against them.
      Zato seems fine atm, at least to me.
      To add on a bit, HC got nerfed in season 4, and bedman gets hit by gaurd crush changes. Granted bed man is hurt purely by system mechanics this patch but it's still a nerf.

    Ok I am actually mad that you used Ky as an example there where they GUTTED his CSE damage, where he pretty much HAS TO use it to get any meaningful reward off HDP. They gutted his consistency and now, while being thrown down to mid tier, is still catching strays.

    Im convinced the devs see johnny as a par character. Like they want other characters to be around his power level but that certantly isnt the reality.
