MrTommo2304 I got a few video ideas for you. I love the idea of bankai theory videos for characters that we didn’t get to see like ukitake and isshin. Doing a rewrite series for bleach would be awesome I’d love to see how you would put your spin on parts of bleach that left more to be desired for example the Royal Guard versus yhwach and his elite guard. Last off a all bankai ranking video so I loved the top 10 bankai video but I’d love to see where u would rank the rest of them. I think it would be cool if you rank all the other bankai and just end it at 11 and ask the viewer to watch the top ten bankai video to finish it off
My biggest question is what would happen if more people were involved? There’s a limited number of characters within the story but they say if he activates it and pulls like 50 people in who plays what? Or would the story itself be fundamentally changed to accommodate it
If Katen Kyokotsu turn child games into reality... I think Katen Kyokotsu Karamatsu Shinjuu turn all the Japanese folklore tales into reality, so, his bankai has a lot of possibilities.
Definitely can see that, makes sense but also makes it one of the most powerful bankais out there if he has multiple bankai level plays each with 4 acts
Kyoraku's zanpakuto is a double entendre on the word "Play". "Play" in regards to how a child interprets that word, and "Play" in regards to how an adult interprets that word. Children interpret it as a game, which is displayed in his shikai. Adults interpret it as a theatrical performance/story which is displayed in his bankai. Both were also monumental turning point in his life where he was force to grow up mentally after his brother's death
Hear my theory, I think, Kyoraku's bankai is not just limited to one story. His shikai is to make all Japanese childrens' games into deadly games and his bankai supposed to make theatre PLAYS into reality. He has actually multiple plays with multiple acts. But he can only choose one play for each situation, that's why he can't use another play in his fight with lille barro because only one play can come into reality per bankai release. He chose to play the lover's story because that play suites the situation with lille barro being invincible to physical attacks. He can, in diffrent circumstances and situations, choose another play. And all theatre plays are deadly. For me, that'd be cool and fantastic to imagine.
For me, this Bankai is peak Kubo writing. I remember first reading it way back when it fist came out, I was astonished at how phamatic and amazing it is and looked.
@Marcquise White It can't. Enemies have to kill Shunsui before he activates his bankai or play by its rules. Characters like Ichibei and ywhach would be able to cancel it out due to hax tho.
@Marcquise White Have exponentially greater spiritual pressure than shunsui so his riatsu has no effect on you, or you can just kill yourself and shunsui would have to die too I think
My interpretation was that the man beat the woman so badly one time that he killed her and the whole play is him living with the regret and Shunsui is the ghost of the woman leading him along the stages of grief and regret.. pain and shock (act 1) then feeling painfully ill (act 2) then drowning in immense depression (act 3) and finally commiting suicide by hanging himself (act 4)
I like that. I just didn't agree with the reasoning behind it. I know it exists because of how things are told in the series, but I hate the idea of a Bankai that hurts the user. I believe in the idea that the Bankai is the user's greatest power like Ichigo and Byakuya and Soi Fon and multiple other Bankai in Bleach. Shouldn't be explained on how it equally affects the user and opponents, because it doesn't. It could be explained as each side of his Bankai represents audio and visual and it twists your perception on each to make it seem the opponents are going through the grizzly reenactment of a murder, then boom you're dead, if you're not strong enough to withstand it. I mean that is an equally plausible explanation of how his Bankai could work, or completely in they wrong direction. It's still up to the person to decide how they understand it, and that's just my thoughts on it
Kyoraku's bankai is based on Sonezaki Shinjū or The Love Suicides at Sonezaki written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon. The woman's name is Ohatsu and she is a courtesan, the man named Tokubei is tradesman. Take a look at it, it's interesting.
It fits with his ruthless pragmatism that comes into play when things get dangerously urgent. Some Shinigami see war and fighting as your typical play of Samurai Honor but Shunsui sees it for what it really is, and will end it quickly to ensure his faction and more importantly his allies survive. Shunsui is a modern warrior in more ways than one even if he leads an organization that values archiac notions of honor.
All the hype and character statements leading up to it made it well worth it for me. Incredibly powerful, builds off his shikai, and pretty damn creative imo.
I like to think that each character's Zanpakutō has a central premise or "theme" that determines how their Shikai and Bankai work. In this case, I think the theme of Katen Kyōkotsu is theater. More specifically, I believe his Zanpakutō represents the dichotomy of tragedy vs comedy. Many people consider tragedy and comedy to be two sides of the same coin, and Katen Kyōkotsu is essentially a physical manifestation of this idea. For example, his Shikai is about children’s games. On the one hand, children playing games will often laugh their little heads off at the sheer joy they’re having, and getting people to laugh is largely the point of a comedy. On the other hand, the idea of watching grown men play children’s games like red light green light is ridiculous to most people. So, when it does happen, everyone in view will often find one reason or another the laugh at the events. Kyoraku’s Shikai basically forces the later situation on both himself and his opponents, but with much more lethal results. Then there’s his Bankai, which clearly represents the idea of tragedy. The depressing atmosphere, the dark lighting, the exceptionally sad story, suicide pacts, all of these are basic tropes of the genre. Hell, the story itself is about two lovers, and few tragedies are more well known (and/or constantly reused) than the quintessential lover's tragedy: Romeo and Juliet. Kyoraku’s Bankai basically weaponizes this by throwing the story itself at every one involved. I think the range of the Shikai and Bankai are representative of this as well. The enjoyment of a game is often limited to those participating in it, but a tragic play affects everyone in the theater. As a result, Katen Kyōkotsu’s shikai only affects Kyoraku himself and his opponent, or, more loosely, his “playmate” at the time. His Bankai, however, is a full on theatrical performance. The lights are dimmed, the parts are assigned, the stage is set, everything necessary to create the perfect atmosphere is implemented in his Bankai. However, this also means that everyone in the “theater” is affected by it. And what is the theater, you ask? Simple. It’s the range of Kyoraku’s Reiatsu. Anyone close enough to feel his Reiatsu is an “audience member”, which means they can view (and even participate) his performance. And while he may be able to control which play the theater puts on, there's not much he can do about who enters the theater. That’s my two cents anyway. (Note: Edited for spacing and spelling.)
I think Kyoraku isn't in control of the Bankai, at least in so far as the part he plays. I think that he understands his role in the Bankai and so has resigned himself to it. That's his advantage. He knows how the story will end. One of two ways. _You die, or we die._ That overlooks the 3rd possibility. The opponents are stronger than him in either will or spirit, and Kyoraku is the one who is going to die in the story. He is not the one playing the role of the woman, but the husband with regrets. His relationship with his Zanpakuto also seems to be much more intimate, but also more of a Bargain, or an agreement of some kind. They live together. They die together. Very interesting design.
It's not a matter of stronger will or spirit, but a matter of rules. Those who witness his bankai are bound to the rules. Only Yhwach can possibly *not* die from it, as his powers are multiversal [past/present/future/tangible/ethereal; all at once], so to speak & Kyoraku's power, and rules, can only work in one verse/plane.
@@WeyardWiz I just saw Yamato bankai in anime saw episode 6 yesterday....... To be honest I don't know Shunsui bankai is powerful enough for Yamato bankai but it is come close to it levels.... If Tite Kubo add and writing more abilities on Shunsui bankai like give him a power of imagination since his bankai is already about imagination of 2 lovers died each other which kinda based on Japanese mythology legend of " *Shinjū* " make it more bit op and broken since Kubo rushing it the Manga Edited: Like give Shunsui bankai ability use Shunsui imagination to take Shunsui and his opponent out of the space when Big azz Black hole coming under of them and the Big Sun top of them around the galaxy just like Act 3 under water when first person runs out of Reiatsu he/she will go to Black hole died instantly or go to Sun to burn to death....Like for a example a person who lied to their partner like got caught cheating in their relationship their lies it costs them of their actions Lies require commitment.” “Man is not what he thinks he is, he is what he hides Things come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies.” “Anything is better than lies and deceit!” hence their lies will be hidden in darkness of Black hole which they try to hide to keep it from their lovers like a shadow or their lies will be burned in their hearts just children said "Liar Liar Liar their pants on fire" since his The power of Katen Kyōkotsu is to "make children's games real". Shunsui use his remaining of his Retisu to summon Giant shadow evil monster based off Amatsu-Mikaboshi( Japanese mythology God of Darkness and Chaos which it is represented of The Black Hole) and summoning another giant Shining Warrior based off Amaterasu Ōmikami(Japanese mythology God of The Sun and creator of all living things) represent of the Sun.
Ah yes my favorite character with one of the most broken bankai! I love how it fits his character. His Shikai is child dreams, but his Bankai is theater and is called “ The Theater Suicide” which is different than his shikai since it’s based around adult stories. Making it more tragic compared to his Shikai
This makes me understand what Ukitake meant when he told him “no, you can’t use it. there are too many people around who could see your bankai” back when Shunsui was fighting Stark. Which seems like anyone who sees him activate his bankai gets pulled into the theatre play. Which us why Ukitake didn’t want him to use it when so many people would be at risk of being tied in.
I think it was mentioned at some point it has a range. I don't think you are pulled in by seeing it you are pulled in by being in a certain range where everyone gets in. This also means the wounded too. Karakura was much smaller space if i remember.
Jushiro is possibly the biggest fuck you in this arc next to Unohana and whatever happened to Kisuke. He does nothing the whole series then dies pointlessly.
@@Mugetsu2021 In the Soul Society Arc. It was implied by both Yamamoto that each of them were peerless when it came to battle and that the defied the imagination. The reason why Shunsui might have been stronger is because of Jushiro’s Illness.
My favorite captain will always be Byakuya but damn if shunsui wasnt right there too. His bankai is so unique and honestly tragic. You wouldnt expect his transition to bankai would get rid of the kid's games and go straight to a tragic play
i Could see his Bankai being able to perform different Plays, depending on the situation. It could very well be that he tells a story and his Enemy caught up in it. Why he does not want anyone else in it, could be because it is sharing his deepest feelings and thoughts and is very intimate. Just like it is with poets that write their plays. Maybe he does not know and trusts in her that she could sustain such a burden of emotions. He always shielded her from everything.
I agree!! Just like his Shikia the games vary based on the mood of the spirit of his sword. Because he played different games against Lille vs the ones he played against Starrk
Bruh if we saw aizens, whatever it may have been, he would’ve ended the series. kyoka suigetsu was only his shikai and it still fucked so many people up 😭
I love the more abstract shikai and bankai. They're so unsettling in an almost cosmic horror way. I like those kinds of abilities more than the "hurr durr bigger sword, big boom" bankai.
💕💕💕Waitttt!!!!! A minute!!!!! Wow so much depth in his bankai . This is my favorite bankai so far!!!!!!! I like how the bankai has a special meaning to it. It’s deep dark and beautiful 🦋🌙✨
I also think there're more "plays" to his Bankai, just like how his Shikai has more than one "game". I think he's at the whim of Katen Kyokotsu on which play and he and anyone else who gets affected are just chosen as the actors in random roles (hence why it was not safe for him to use during fake Karakura). With the play we saw, Lille "chose" his role by hitting Kyoraku beforehand
This bankai is actually one of my favorites along with Urahara's and Yamamoto's. I REALLY wish we got to see Ukitake's because since him and Shunsui were equal's, we can assume his was just as deadly as Shunsui's. Anyway, I think his bankai is pretty OP aside from the story which made perfect sense. The way his Shikai and Bankai are linked (Shikai = playful as a kid, Bankai = sorrow as an adult) reflects Shunsui's life. I can't recall another zanpaktou like that and it fits him perfectly. What would be theoretically interesting is if he can control the "plays." In other words, what if his bankai were plays that would "theatrically" adjust to the enemies weaknesses? The story would be the same but it would have different "events" leading to the same outcome which is death? Those "events" would determine if the next act is needed if the enemy doesn't die before his or her ultimate doom? Just a theory...
I think that the Bankai would effect shunsui if the victim doesn’t react. If they don’t panic and “reject” the promise then they’d both die or maybe just shunsui
It is conceptually a unique Bankai that's for sure. I didn't knew that this Bankai was so deep and dark. You definitely helped me understand it better. Thank you.
So, my shot at this: Kyoraku can activate his bankai only when he is badly wounded. Once badly wounded there is a thread-like connection between the aggressor and the victim that forces both of them to literally live the tragic story. So once activated the aggressor is doomed: he either choses to die by accepting the story's end or gets killed by trying to flee his promise like a coward. Basically when you face Kyoraku you have three choices: you either kill him in one blow, run away or be a drinking buddy to him. Once you've heavily wounded him, you're fucked.
I think this was an amazing Bankai, so unique, creative and powerful. I wonder if it could even take down somebody as powerful as Bankai Yamamoto, since the 1st Act should definitely be able to bypass Yama's perfect flame defense and injure him, triggering for sure the following Acts. That said, I kinda doubt that the killing blow at the end would be able to get through Yama's flames (which I certainly don't see being extinguished by the water of Act 3).
That was the best explanation I have heard of his bankai yet, especially what the characters are supposed to do in the play. Makes you wonder if both combatants would have died, if Lille had played along.
In my own opinion I believe that he is the best captain and has the best bankai his bankai has way more possibilities than just this one play he is totally op and I love it he has so much foreshadowing done on his character through the entire story and I’m totally pumped to see this in the anime itself I’m not disappointed at all in his bankai I believe it’s perfect for his character he’s so mysterious and his shekai and bankai are perfect in my own opinion
Shunsui has always been my favorite. This is a good break down but i believe it goes something like this. Act 1 You hurt me so I return the favor in kind. Act 2 You feel the pain you inflicted on me and regret it. Act 3 Filled with sorrow and regret you do everything you can to excape the fate you have sealed. Act 4 I releive you of the painful burden i carry every single day. I only need 2 fingers for that task.... Head Captain Kyoraku Shunsui....
I think the way to look at it is, that engaging in battle is supposed to be as intimate as being a pair of lovers. So in a way both combatants agreed to playing their "roles" as soon as the confronted each other. Its a super intriguing bankai, I really dig it!
shunsui bankai kind of reminds me of yamamoto bankai, with a 4 step ability and one of them being a one kill shot, funny since both are captain commander, oh and they both sorta have a area of effect.
Zanka No Tachi isen't a step ability, it was only shown that way so that we could see the full potential of Yamamoto's Bankai, but he can only use a single form
Shunsui is my favorite character with my favorite zanpakto. I'm so glad that you made this video, it was wonderfully made. Thank you for putting our names in the video, it was a little cereal to see my name in my favorite characters video from my favorite anime RUclipsr, so thank you again.
Damn....now I see why he said it was too dangerous! Every bit of damage he infected on the enemy he will receive. At the end, if the enemy accepts the suicide then they both die. That's crazy.
i suspect more people become different characters. which is part of why he's so selective in using his bankai. it isn't that kyoraku is in control, he just knows the story very intimately, and acts to ensure he gets the role he wants. it also explains his behavior over-all. from his effeminate mannerisms to his playful fighting style. he can't commit to being the aggressor until he can be sure he won't need his bankai, because he doesn't want to be the husband
My opinion: The drawback to this Bankai is that anyone trapped in the play (the area) needs to play out all of the acts. Shunsui would have to know how the bankai works at some point in training? So meaning, he knew the risks. Someone has to die, and if the opponents resolve is strong, it's possible that both the man and woman (in the play) die, like the woman is trying to find someone to properly go down with her in act 3.
his shikai and bankai are both a dichotomy on the ways the word "play" is used. play meaning games but also meaning a scripted performance, or an act. i love kubo's play with words and powers it just scratches my brain in the right places
Start the weekend off right with MrTommo and my favorite Captain, Shunsui. Can’t wait to see this creepy odd bankai animated. Wanna see how everyone reacts when he activates it and everything goes dark. I love the area affect bankai, especially the themed ones where you’re just forced into another world. Shunsui and Tosen type bankai
The transition between the acts are likely not a single path. It might even be a branching story. My guess is that if Lille hadn't tried to flee during the third act of the play, it wouldn't let Kyoraku trigger the fourth. Just like with his Shikai's "games", where both "players" are bound by the rules, there are conditions to be met for each step, and Kyoraku probably picked the play based on context; His wounds relative to his enemy is similar enough to the premise of the play for its rules to apply.
I like the fact that we see her, the sword just as we saw her in the anime. I love call backs like this. Because I felt they got Rukia's and Byakuya's swords done well in the anime too. I imagined that Rukia's sword would be a beautiful snow witch. I particularly like theirs, Shuhei's, Izuru's, and Yamamoto's.
I like it when he was talking about how the characters were feeling the presence of this Bankai how they were feeling cold and shivering and feeling just the effects of this Bankai but what I feel like you was trying to portray in the first part of it the activation of it it's more like the lights of a theater turning off that chilling Melancholy Vibe of a play getting ready to start that's what I feel like they were trying to portray when they did that
Like many of bleach lovers..i also think that kyoraku has many plays in his sleeve. But he has to choose one based on the situation. In novel he used another new technique. Basically his true ability is change the reality by the plays he choose fit the situation. That's why he feared nanao will catch up and he had to include her in the play. In per bankai he can use only one story. there is another possibility that he never get to choose the story. Its the zampaktu who choose the story. It depends on the mood of the zampaktu. That is why Shunsui mentioned before the release of his bankai " lets see what is waiting for me on the other side". Well, if he always use the same story..then he should have known all the acts and ending scenes.Man..hell of a power..this is much scarier..and this is the true power of him. Please analysis this possibility @MrTommo2304 will ya?
My feeling is he is performing the play and has to stay on script. But he has the ability to decide who gets pulled into the play with him to a degree. He wanted nanao to stay out so she doesn't accidently get pulled in to the script. The opponent, maybe not knowing the script being used, can be expertly manipulated into doing what is necessary to advance the plot. So long as the script is followed anyone who can't fight against the bankai's effects will eventually fall to it.
Kyoraku’s shikai: Wind and shadows. Kyoraku’s bankai: shadows and- Hahaha the first thing I thought was a black tornado or a dark wind controlled with his swords. Kubo totally tricked the fans with this bankai. I always wanted to see Matsumoto’s bankai too.
I think it's really well done when you consider the shikai is about the woman being cruel and and unwilling to compromise forcing shinsui to use whatever move she wants. It gives more layers to the bankai
Saying Shunsui's Shikai or Zanpakuto is some since represents a degree of "fairness" is routed in a misconception of Shunsui's character. "Remember what Yamamoto said, " Shunsui's is a peace loving man who loves to talk his way out of a fight but he was always able to see the truth." And what exactly does Yama mean by this? The truth in this context is analogous to the reality of the world being a doggy-dog place; hyper-competitive, unfair and unforgiving. *Worst of all, everyone's forced to play and be apart of it*. Shunsui himself hate this, has the greatest disdain for it to the point in which is 'causes him depression and great pain but he simultaneously embraces this world and plays the *game* for what it is. So his Shikai/Bankai/Zanpakuto is not holding up to some measure of fairness, it's maintaining an *appearance* of fair play to *distract* you from the harsh reality that its not. Remember, Shunsui might initiate all the games but he doesn't have to tell you all the rules right away unless necessary, and he's the one that knows the ends and outs of each game, all the loop holes and when the game has switched. Bankai, same thing, the other party doesn't know what triggers the next act and I have a sneaky feeling, regardless of what they do, Shunsui can progress the play as he sees fit anyway. But the story on top of it maintains this *illusion of fairness* (he can just alter the dialogue impromptu for the situation), just like his shikai and just like Shunsui does himself. I'm sure the theories of him having potentially other plays that he could perform, would follow this line of reasoning in some way shape or form too. So his Zanpakuto is actually a perfect parallel to his personality, like someone said, "it's a double entendre on the word play", but also a metaphor for the game of life we all play and are forced into. The games and theatrics are his grace to you, to distract you from the harsh reality your put into, that this shit actually not fair at all and he's not actually going to fight you like it is. Just, appear to. :) Incredibly well designed and DEEP character, truly a peak fictional character. I know his is a late comment for this but relevant still since the anime will be showing this within the next year. @MrTommo2304
That bankai is creepy and scary, more than old Yama's summoning the dead. I can't wait for TYBW! I want it to be gory! The music for it would be unnerving and depressing. Haven't read the manga, and it's pretty much spoiled for me but I'm still excited.
I may be completely wrong but since Kyoraku’s shikai was children’s games then his bankai were mature plays usually tragedies. I think what happens is that whoever is in range of the bankai’s area of influence will be forced to become the characters in the story. I believe that the storyline may change depending on who the “actors” are and that the amount of control Kyoraku has may be severely limited. Of course again I may be wrong and it’s only that particular story and those particular acts. But I think it would make things very interesting if the storyline does get altered (it still would be a tragedy) and Kyoraku does not get much of a say in how that happens. It would make it even more of a double edge sword than his shikai as with the children games you can at least figure out the rules and win while the bankai would just assign you your role in the story and that is that. Plus it just would be awesome to see more stories acted out.
I hope your day is well! I'm in a super good mood so I hope everyone's day or night is good! Bleach is awesome so I'm glad I get to watch this in my morning! Thank you for the amazing content!
Captain 8 is by far one of the best captains, it's a reason he was chosen to be yamamoto's replacement, It's not so much that it's a illusion, he's manifesting and manipulating reality, some things are not to be looked into too deeply it's a dark zombie and that is the base of it, the story is a dark one
One of your best videos! i really love when u analyze things this deep and like the Ichigo's bankai and Kensei analysis video, i always thought the same as you about his bankai, the only way it makes sense is for him and his opponent to be the actors of the play, would've been curious if he used the bankai with starrk, both are kinda aloof and starrk doesn't mind dying as long as he doesn't die alone, i think both would've drown in the third act together! keep up the good work!
Bro wtf u were just at 150 k subs how th ate u bout to hit 200k holy shit!!!!!!! Congrats dude keep up the fucking amazing work you are currently my fav bleach youtuber cause you understand the scaling of power and the narrative of the story and of each characters. 💪
I feel like his Bankai is just another game. The only difference being “who dies first”. And he’s so calm during it because he knows if his will isn’t stronger he will die.
when you think about that we saw his bankai after getting the explaination of how asautsies(?) work from our main dude it hits really hard!the implications for kyoraku are insanly deep-dark and complex(how his bankai connects to his past and...),specially when kyoraku sees him strangle to get to the surface and sais "...you re selfish..."
what im thinking right now is : Maybe the bankai depends on the enemy mind state. Comparing the theatral story and Shunsui bankai in this fight : _In the play Lille got desperate and tried to escape then Shunsui finished him up. _Following the story of the lovers, the man broke the suicide pact and so he died cause the woman murdered him. Let's imagine that Shunsui bankai is a narrative. So, let's imagine further that the narrative has two different paths , these two paths are dependent on the enemy. The first path is the path where the men (enemy) cowardly breaks the suicide pact and tried to escape, so it leads to the ending were he is the only one dead cause he gets murdered by the woman. The second path is the path where the men stays truthful to the pact and both died. Do you understand where im trying to get ? The moment Shunsui activated his bankai death was inevitable. Lille was acting as the men and so he went the first path and tried to run away, Shunsui acting has the woman finished him up. BUT WHAT IF Lille followed the second path and he never desperated and runned away ? Exactly, both of them would die cause that's how the narrative was writed, both men (lille) and woman (Shunsui) would drown and die together. Taking in mind what i said, Shunsui bankai looks a like a last resort option cause how dangerous it can be for the wielder. It can finish off the enemy but it can also end the wielder's life.
This makes me think...how cool would an anime character's power be to force them and their opponents to play the role of characters in different stories? Like, imagine a character activating their power and forcing themself and their opponent to play through King Lear or Romeo and Juliet? This is a cool Bankai.
Great content, I loved it! I think there could possibly be some huge implications to how Act 3 of his Bankai works, and he is as much affected by it as the opponent he traps within it is. He resigns himself and the other to a mutual death in the draining cold waters. If they both recognize and accept this, they will both die, and Act 4 is possibly never needed. But if the unwitting opponent tries to go back on their 'promise' to share in death together, that is when Act 4 is then activated, and the swift death and retribution is delivered.
Kyoraku has given his perspective on war before, saying there is no good guy. So when he tell lille that he committed to this, he’s stating the pain of war. They agreed to throw peace of life away, their relationship; war is unnatural, toxic, and highly abusive. Kyoraku is one of the few, if not the only, to recognize this hollowing perspective. He plays the woman, bc he wishes his partner in life would stop trying to kill him. Your perspective very much helped to open my eyes to this conclusion, so thank you Mr.Tommo. And of course, bravo to Tite Kubo for this artwork and meta-expression of shunsui. It’s hard to get, but philosophical
Yoooo my favorite character’s bankai reviewed by my favorite bleach RUclipsr let’s goo!! I believe that, as well as his shikai which can use multiple children’s game, kyoraku is able to use different theater plays and he’s able to choose the one who suits the situation best. At least I hope so, it will be cool 😂
You know when he first learned bankai he’s very lucky his personality fits because I’m sure he went through all that with his sword but ended up “dying” with his sword which is the promise she said….
His Shikai creates a reality manipulation field that everyone must follow, but I noticed that the main 'games' he uses (those that end in 'oni') all require the 'players' own power, skill, and cunning to meet the 'win conditions'. They don't directly attack the target, like say Getsuga Tenshou does. His Bankai can actually induce damage and debilitating effects on the target like a curse, without the need to physically strike the target. Really fitting to give a 'cursed fate' to a character in a 'tragic play'.
It was satisfying IMO. The man severely blames himself for two deaths. The Bankai representation of the emotional pain he feels. But as it’s emotional you don’t physically feel it. On top of his desire to make up for those two deaths. Remember, he became so pro-life and fearful of wrongful death he stood up to Yamamoto. His teacher/leader of centuries. It’s definitely not a good fit for a captain commander Bankai. But Hitsu(Toahiru Hitsugaya) does but still has a long way to go. Considering Buddhism version of hell. And Yamamoto’s being more akin to abrahamic religions hell. But Shunsui’s Bankai furthered his character, explained his personality in more detail and self blame for his brother and Nano’s mom. But also his desire to regain honor (Seppuku) being shown through it. And if being an ultimate protection technique that would be perfect for guarding a captain commander. Lastly his duality being on full display. Wanting to enjoy life, tried to. But carries the burden of ultimate regret, by putting the hairpins and cloak on daily, wishing to pay for his actions. And using his Bankai to inflict the emotional pain lives in. ( pain not being there, as emotional pain isn’t physical) but has the most painful ways to die, drowning, disease etc.
I believe that much like how his Shikai makes games work in the context of combat, his Bankai does the same with theater and folk tales. What we see in TYBW is but one of many tales that his Bankai can tell, and he can't exactly control which one he conjures up, all he can do is play by the rules inn the case of his Shikai, or get himself fully into character in the stories his Bankai tells.
I think their would be a different play is nanao was their to fit the setting just like their is multiple games. I'm not sure if it would be automatic or his choice but I would assume it would have to choose a play that could incorporate everyone as players. As for it's effects I'm guessing it's kinda like a choose your own adventure story. Since Lillie decided to try and escape it transitioned into the neck slice. But if he hadn't it would have resulted in both of them dying via drowning. Basically the story of the play follows the actors changing the symbolic effects with it.
While theatre work is entertainment for adults I view the evolution of childhood games is love. As men grow older love is what makes men mature- or rather the pain loves bring. Shikai is innocence of the heart. The dangers of being reckless as a child. The bankai is the consequence of strife, the regrets men feel as they realize the cruel reality of life. It serves as a metaphor for Shunsui's duality. He understands that Shinigami arent benign, he was once the playful boy who had a rude awakening to reality. It is my favorite bankai in the series for how poetic and dark it is. In shikai it's all about high-risk, high return. Shunsui's default manner of being-whimsical. But when things get serious, he uses his bankai as the last resort, only when he's badly hurt and like choices made by adults, it can have deadly consequences for everyone around as well.
I like how both Captain Commanders in the series have Bankai that give off that effect (I’m not sure what to call it) Yamamoto: literally is so hot that moisture is being taken out of the Sereitei (dry heat) Shunsui: Darkness and chills over take the area
I think the "promise of both dying in the game" only works because kyoraku was ready to die for real. I guess you cant activate this bankai If you are not ready to die
So did Kyoraku's long-awaited Bankai live up to your expectations? Would you have changed it at all? Let me know!
MrTommo2304 can you do a what if scenario where ichigo didnt lose his dangai powers or you can do what if ichigo had ruijin jakka
Or would the story itself be fundamentally changed to accommodate it
Sounds a lot like a Genjutsu tbh lol, Mr. Tom’s videos are great 👍🏻
I loved it and thought it fit his theme and character very well.
If Katen Kyokotsu turn child games into reality... I think Katen Kyokotsu Karamatsu Shinjuu turn all the Japanese folklore tales into reality, so, his bankai has a lot of possibilities.
while it may not be only japanese ones.
Definitely can see that, makes sense but also makes it one of the most powerful bankais out there if he has multiple bankai level plays each with 4 acts
Imagine seeing Amaterasu, Susano, Izanagi, etc. in Bleach😂
That would be a devastating power. Imagine all the legendary stuff that can be summoned with his reiatsu

Kyoraku's bankai isnt limited to one play. In the novel he used another play.
I love his bankai! Such a unique anime power.
So if he knows hamlet will it do hamlet?
@@shawnboahene5231 yes lol
Ooooh interesting have to read
Can you tell me where and in what novel? From what I have read in cfyow he only uses his shikai.
Gee I hope you are correct. If he could do multiple plays I am sure the next one will not disappoint
That was very well put
This is amazing, I never put that together. Brilliant comment thank you for sharing.
Awesome
Love your insight
Damn never thought of that

Hear my theory,
I think, Kyoraku's bankai is not just limited to one story.
That's exactly how it works. At least that's what can be inferred from the manga.
Wow well explained !
Great theory my guy
you are absolutely right. @Mr tommo2304 can you analysis this issue please..
That's pure headcanon with nothing whatsoever to back it up lmfao. The bankai is called lovers suicide. It's one play lol about one story.
yo... this bankai is actually tragically beautiful thank you for opening my eyes to it
For me, this Bankai is peak Kubo writing. I remember first reading it way back when it fist came out, I was astonished at how phamatic and amazing it is and looked.
@Marcquise White It actually does make sense. it turns games and plays into reality
Phamatic
My interpretation was that the man beat the woman so badly one time that he killed her and the whole play is him living with the regret and Shunsui is the ghost of the woman leading him along the stages of grief and regret.. pain and shock (act 1) then feeling painfully ill (act 2) then drowning in immense depression (act 3) and finally commiting suicide by hanging himself (act 4)
Your is dark as well... Its more like torture !!!
@@gorzkawodka thanks man I will check it out
It fits with his ruthless pragmatism that comes into play when things get dangerously urgent.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The way I understood it originally was that Kyoraku actually never knows if he's going to live through his bankai every time he activates it.
All the hype and character statements leading up to it made it well worth it for me. Incredibly powerful, builds off his shikai, and pretty damn creative imo.
It is
I like to think that each character's Zanpakutō has a central premise or "theme" that determines how their Shikai and Bankai work.
Lovely analysis
W comment
That's a great analysis and I completely agree with your interpretation.
Love this analysis, think it fits really well!
I think Kyoraku isn't in control of the Bankai, at least in so far as the part he plays.
I think that he understands his role in the Bankai and so has resigned himself to it. That's his advantage. He knows how the story will end. One of two ways. _You die, or we die._
That overlooks the 3rd possibility.
Shinsui really brings that samurai theme to bleach
And I also love the name of his bankai
*Katen Kyokostu Karamastu shinju*
That's not his bankai lol. That's one play from his bankai. He uses another one in the novels
It made his bankai that much more impressive!

i already loved kyoraku's bankai, having it explained like this makes me love it even more
Ah yes my favorite character with one of the most broken bankai!

I love the more abstract shikai and bankai. They're so unsettling in an almost cosmic horror way. I like those kinds of abilities more than the "hurr durr bigger sword, big boom" bankai.
So are you a boy or girl?

💕💕💕Waitttt!!!!! A minute!!!!! Wow so much depth in his bankai . This is my favorite bankai so far!!!!!!! I like how the bankai has a special meaning to it. It’s deep dark and beautiful 🦋🌙✨
Same here, i love how it's written, truly fascinating... It really moved me
I also think there're more "plays" to his Bankai, just like how his Shikai has more than one "game".
I absolutely loved his bankai. Hes my favorite captain and I wasn't disappointed. It just connected with me emotionally.
Thank you.
Thanks my man. Ypur explanation very detail and good
So, my shot at this: Kyoraku can activate his bankai only when he is badly wounded.
Act 1
You hurt me so I return the favor in kind.
Act 2
You feel the pain you inflicted on me and regret it.
Act 3
Filled with sorrow and regret you do everything you can to excape the fate you have sealed.
Act 4
I releive you of the painful burden i carry every single day. I only need 2 fingers for that task....
Head Captain Kyoraku Shunsui....
Last time I was this early Kubo was taking a week off for Golden Week
😂😂
I think one of the most important questions is "can his bankai perform different plays?" That opens a massive potential pool for him as a character
I think the way to look at it is, that engaging in battle is supposed to be as intimate as being a pair of lovers. So in a way both combatants agreed to playing their "roles" as soon as the confronted each other. Its a super intriguing bankai, I really dig it!
ruclips.net/video/W2UfrQNzHlI/видео.html j
shunsui bankai kind of reminds me of yamamoto bankai, with a 4 step ability and one of them being a one kill shot, funny since both are captain commander, oh and they both sorta have a area of effect.
Zanka No Tachi isen't a step ability, it was only shown that way so that we could see the full potential of Yamamoto's Bankai, but he can only use a single form
Yeah Yamamoto bankai is not a 4 "step"ability but it have 4 "different" ability, he can choose whatever he wants in those 4 ability
I loved your interpretation of the bankai. And it is quite sinister that the spirit offered to take Kyoraku away, which would make her die...
What makes it dangerous is people standing by can get sucked in... All of karakura town would have been in the bankai if he did
i suspect more people become different characters. which is part of why he's so selective in using his bankai. it isn't that kyoraku is in control, he just knows the story very intimately, and acts to ensure he gets the role he wants.
it also explains his behavior over-all. from his effeminate mannerisms to his playful fighting style. he can't commit to being the aggressor until he can be sure he won't need his bankai, because he doesn't want to be the husband
Prob trained it with Ukitake and having god's left hand inside him prob kept em alive for all acts 😅
his shikai and bankai are both a dichotomy on the ways the word "play" is used. play meaning games but also meaning a scripted performance, or an act. i love kubo's play with words and powers it just scratches my brain in the right places
Love the content mate, keep the greatness coming
The transition between the acts are likely not a single path.
It might even be a branching story.
My guess is that if Lille hadn't tried to flee during the third act of the play, it wouldn't let Kyoraku trigger the fourth.
Just like with his Shikai's "games", where both "players" are bound by the rules, there are conditions to be met for each step, and Kyoraku probably picked the play based on context;
His wounds relative to his enemy is similar enough to the premise of the play for its rules to apply.
I always loved that Kyoraku;s banki is, in the end, something a little like a Reality Marble. I just wish we had seen it earlier.
Ukitake wasn't kidding when he said that Shunsui's Bankai isn't something to be used in public. Stark really got lucky.
Maybe, just maybe, Shunsui is just THAT strong. It's scary to think how strong he would be if he wasn't so lazy 😔
lazy OP characters are the best. Just look at Kisuke Urahara for proof
@@itzmrinyy7484 Kizaru from one piece too
I like it when he was talking about how the characters were feeling the presence of this Bankai how they were feeling cold and shivering and feeling just the effects of this Bankai but what I feel like you was trying to portray in the first part of it the activation of it it's more like the lights of a theater turning off that chilling Melancholy Vibe of a play getting ready to start that's what I feel like they were trying to portray when they did that
Like many of bleach lovers..i also think that kyoraku has many plays in his sleeve.
I never knew this! I really can’t wait to see this animated now
But you're a captain tho...
@@Kazekage202 He's the captain that makes the most sense to be ignorant to someone's bankai
You are absolutely killing it this week, brotha.
Kyoraku’s shikai: Wind and shadows.
Kyoraku’s bankai: shadows and-
Hahaha the first thing I thought was a black tornado or a dark wind controlled with his swords. Kubo totally tricked the fans with this bankai. I always wanted to see Matsumoto’s bankai too.
Definitely a creative concept. Matsumoto canonically should be able to use a bankai, maybe one day we see it...
I think it's really well done when you consider the shikai is about the woman being cruel and and unwilling to compromise forcing shinsui to use whatever move she wants. It gives more layers to the bankai
Yeah I love his bankai
Its creative and it actually fit kyoraku's character
Saying Shunsui's Shikai or Zanpakuto is some since represents a degree of "fairness" is routed in a misconception of Shunsui's character.
"Remember what Yamamoto said, " Shunsui's is a peace loving man who loves to talk his way out of a fight but he was always able to see the truth."
And what exactly does Yama mean by this?
Incredibly well designed and DEEP character, truly a peak fictional character.
I know his is a late comment for this but relevant still since the anime will be showing this within the next year.
@MrTommo2304
That bankai is creepy and scary, more than old Yama's summoning the dead. I can't wait for TYBW! I want it to be gory! The music for it would be unnerving and depressing.
Haven't read the manga, and it's pretty much spoiled for me but I'm still excited.
I may be completely wrong but since Kyoraku’s shikai
was children’s games then his bankai were mature plays usually tragedies.
I think what happens is that whoever is in range of the bankai’s area of influence will be forced to become the characters in the story.
I believe that the storyline may change depending on who the “actors” are
and that the amount of control Kyoraku has may be severely limited.
Plus it just would be awesome to see more stories acted out.
woah 2 uploads in a week thank you I will enjoy listening to this while studying
It's one of my favorites bankai actually!
I hope your day is well! I'm in a super good mood so I hope everyone's day or night is good!
Bleach is awesome so I'm glad I get to watch this in my morning! Thank you for the amazing content!
Captain 8 is by far one of the best captains, it's a reason he was chosen to be yamamoto's replacement,
It's not so much that it's a illusion, he's manifesting and manipulating reality, some things are not to be looked into too deeply it's a dark zombie and that is the base of it, the story is a dark one
when the anime gets to this part, I hope they add curtain transitions like with what one piece did with the wano arc acts.
This was an amazing breakdown. Amaziiiing
My top favorite looking bankai
1. Hakka No Togame.
2. Katen Kyokotsu Karimatsu Shinju.
3. Senbonzakura Kageyoshi.
Comparing the theatral story and Shunsui bankai in this fight :
_In the play Lille got desperate and tried to escape then Shunsui finished him up.
Kyoraku and nanao vs lilibaro was by far the most confusing fight for me out of the varvelt battles. Thanks so much for this video. Very helpful
If it's basically an illusion then anyone with a comparable or stronger spiritual pressure could resist or overcome it such as Aizen for sure
Everything that happened in the Lille fight was just Kubo being as high as he's ever been.
I agreed about that sir. This fight is out of this world.
Damn best channel for Bleach analysis ;-; keep up Tommo taicho
I think it did deliver if you look at shunsui backstory and how his bankai represents what he went through
I believe that much like how his Shikai makes games work in the context of combat, his Bankai does the same with theater and folk tales. What we see in TYBW is but one of many tales that his Bankai can tell, and he can't exactly control which one he conjures up, all he can do is play by the rules inn the case of his Shikai, or get himself fully into character in the stories his Bankai tells.
The pose Kyouraku does after he cuts Lille´s head off with the thread is just awesome
I love how the design form the Muramasa filler arc is used for Kyoraku's Zanpakuto spirit.
Absolutely love this channel
I like how both Captain Commanders in the series have Bankai that give off that effect (I’m not sure what to call it)
Yamamoto: literally is so hot that moisture is being taken out of the Sereitei (dry heat)
Shunsui: Darkness and chills over take the area
I think the "promise of both dying in the game" only works because kyoraku was ready to die for real. I guess you cant activate this bankai If you are not ready to die
Can we have an analysis on Kyoraku next !!?
Yes ive been waiting for this video❤❤❤
Lowkey been waiting this content
