I believe his bankai purposefully reflects his nature in battle, which is to win by any means necessary--that's why it puts himself and anyone around him at risk.
I've loved Kyouraku ever since his fight with Chad and just knew he was OP since he didn't even draw his zanny unlike some other caps who basically emptied the clip in their fights. I love the insight that his shikai is making children's games real and his bankai making adult's games real. So so dope.
Yes, I remember that not only it showed the difference of a captain above the rest but also that he ddidn't need to even really fight or go shikai. And he was pretty chill with Chad at that. Hell, he faced the#1 Espada with just his shikai and he was also quite relaxed. And when he got beaten by Aizen, again he didn't seem to have sustained that much damage anyway.
Finally someone had the same thought,I always thought that wat ukitake meant was that it's not a good idea for kyoraku to release his Bankai where different people can see it cuz the scary thing about kyoraku Bankai is how unpredictable it is,if u know it's rules and stay calm it rly takes the huge advantage it has, even lille with his insane strength was terrified of kyoraku Bankai
I really hope we can see more games from his bankai, because its only logical that the STRONGEST ability of one's character can't always wait to be attacked, or hope that his reiatsu is bigger then his opponent's. Really nicely done!
The Strongest Captains seem to all have 4 “acts” or “versions” of their bankai or at least once uve gotten to a certain degree or skilll. The number of “acts” of a Bankai def separate the level of skill the different captains are at. Yamamoto had 4 acts too. Wonder how many Kyoka Suigetsu has? Scary to think.
Yeah but shame that is such a lame bankai. It is powerfull and all but boring as shit compared to Jakka. We need more fun zanpakuto in shikai form like Jakka. Not shadows and games...blah...where are the fun times when Ichigo was going balistic.
I believe the victim can die by any and all of the acts - however, when it was used against Lille, Kyoraku simply knew he was too strong to die from those acts, this is why he progressed to the final act, and he was very surprised it was survived. The bankai clearly has a range, which is why it could not be used in Karakura town, because all there would have been caught up in the Bankai, and like only 3 of the captains present in Karakura would have been able to outlast the immense spiritual pressure of Stark who could likely have tolerated the Abyss for quite some time.
Shunsui is so powerful, he can take enough pain and killer blows head on and just shrug it off for been tired. Aizen literally cut him down and he just went to lay down from boredom until his vice captain kicked him to stop pretending. Also, to be able to handle such bankai means your threshold for pain and anguish must be at its very peak which is why he’s one of the people that could face Aizen one on one.
that was stark actually. Stark blasted Shunsui in the back, then LIsa came and talked with him. After Aizen cut him, he didn't get up until the end of the arc
Lmao Aizen one shotted him into the next arc. The only thing super strong about shunsui is his bankai, that is open to so many interpretations. Aizen easily spanks shunsui.
While Shunsui's could theoretically suffer when he releases his Bankai, it's also not in the interest of his Zanpakuto to kill her own host, which would mean she'd never get a chance to come out to play ever again. So, I do think that if he was ever in a situation where he was facing a foe much stronger than him, there's a good chance that she would play out a tragedy where a peasant underdog goes through terrible hardship and wins against an all powerful king, for example.
After reading the TYBW, Shunsui’s zanpakuto is one of my favorites. I just love the artistry behind such a brutal Bankai, and it’s also an opposite but parallel to Kisuke’s more scientific Bankai.
I thought his shikai increased damage based on how covered the one choosing the color is in that color. High risk, high reward. Isn't that why he did so much damage to Stark when he called 'Black' after discarding his captain's coat, leaving himself covered almost entirely in the color black?
I love Shunsui as a character and how literally nothing about him is simple. That said, I really do not believe his bankai is as simple as being limited to just the 1 play. I suspect just as his shikai was about to engage in multiple games, his bankai could do so, also. More Shunsui!!
Shunsui Bankai works like a play or a movie/theatrical and it depends on what scene or acting that wish to play in the other opponent, any other opponent that are in the act can also interfere with the act by adding a new act into the Theatrical, as a result gaining the advantage or disadvantage,
Honestly might be my favorite Bankai, it fits him very well and is just cool as hell. I do really hope that theory about him having multiple Bankai plays is confirmed in the hell arc, it’d be amazing
People like you kinda suck. And why these artists leave so unhealthy because you can’t just be grateful for what you got. You have to nitpick everything and take all the fun out of everything.
Although it might be from translation, Ukitake in the manga said "see", not "in". This implies that no one should know about his 4 acts, so there will be less chance the enemy gets any info about its mechanics. Unlike Shinji Hirako's bankai, it was never stated directly that his bankai is banned or should not be activated near his allies, we only assumed since he put some distance to where no one besides his enemy, will see or hear him narrate his ability.
Talk about the black and white thing, thanks for the explanation! Really help much since watch the anime I dont understand why Starrk is so easy defeaten by Shinsui.
2:02 those aren't arms, those are "matsu" branches (part of his Bankai's name), which is a type of tree. It has a kind of poetic status in traditional Japanese literature and plays.
I feel like the second act of his bankai suits his personality perfectly. If you can remember the fight with Espada 1 shunsui is never the one to start the fight. His personality is super laid back so that is why. Since he never wants to start the fight the “shame of starting the war” which is the act 2 of his bankai wouldn’t really effect him all that much
Probably gets a different script depending on how many people are caught up in the play. The one on-page use only involved the two of them, but with a larger cast you could act out different stories. Bet they're all tragedies, though.
I imagine if he caught entire enemy army he could get Oedipus Rex Act I Pierces the feet of enemies Act II 1st one to attack Kyoraku becomes marked as Oedipus Act III all except Oedipus contract disease and person closest to him strangles him/herself to death Act IV blinds Oedipus and has him attacked by plague victims
You got the rules of Iro Oni slightly wrong: when a player calls out a colour it becomes the only thing on their opponent they can cut, and the damage from that cut it multiplied by the proportion of that colour the Caller is wearing. So if someone wearing all Black calls Black and attacks a Black tattoo on their opponent's chest, the damage will be much more severe than if the person calls a colour they don't have on them at all. That's why when Kyoraku deals his final blow to Starrk he removed his pink Kimono, by removing that he maximized the amount of Black on himself and thus the damage before calling Black and putting his blade through Starrk's Black Hollow Hole
Think act 3 also makes you want to die too. Feeling hopeless. Then he puts you out of your misery in the final act. Very interesting Bankai to see in the anime
His bankai is still amazing till this day. I dont know how to describe this pure beautiful experience, watching his bankai in anime /manga , its amazing man
Personally, since his Shikai requires game participation, regardless of desire; and since his zanpakuto is described as selfish and difficult to work with - I like the idea that there are many plays which his Bankai can perform, but that he does not have control over which one it is.
I think it’s fair to say that ges got multiple plays that depends on how his fight is going. There might a play thats is advantagous to him if he attacks first and stuff like that.
Imagine Shunsui watching modern day media to get new ideas for his Bankai. Pulls up his Bankai and the narrator goes: "I want to play a game", "May the odds be ever in your favor" or "Do you like scary movies?" I know, I know, it should be theatrical plays. I just find it amusing that Shunsui might be interested on modern human pleasantries. But knowing him, it would most likely be "Help stepbro, I'm stuck!"
Shunsui is the kind of guy who would activate shikai and immediately pull out a Yu-Gi-Oh deck and initiate a duel with his power making the seemingly innocent childrens card game into a shadow game
Katen Kyokotsu Karamatsu Shinju is a powerful Bankai for sure but it's also very dangerous too. The translation is Flower Crazed Heaven Bone Spirit Withered Pine Lover's Suicide, which makes me think it's meant to unfortunately just cover the one play, it could have different forms but they would all probably need to involve telling the story of two lovers committing suicide, who knows maybe he has a Romeo and Juliette version in his back pocket. Each act tells part of the story: Act 1 is how the lovers are so close they can feel each other's pain which is manifested as the wounds of those affected by Kyoraku's Bankai being shared which would presumably be shared among everyone in the effective range ally or enemy. Act 2: involves the man in the relationship wounding his partner in some way, maybe by cheating on her, maybe by causing her distress from their shared pain in Act 1, no matter the cause his own feelings of regret lead him to coming down with an incurable affliction where his body is covered in weeping black spots (possibly an STI). Act 3 involves the man becoming immeasurably sad and ashamed to the point where he throws himself into a raging ocean from which there's no escape. The parallel is pretty obvious here since Kyoraku's Act 3 traps himself and his foe in an endless void of water that leaches their endurance until someone drowns. Act 4 has the woman feel pity for her lover who's been tortured by his own guilt/regret so she takes some scissors and slits his throat to put him out of his misery.
I'll say more, given the fact that during the Bankai Lilie couldn't teleport and use his techniques , it means that during the four-dan story, the victim can't use his power.
I recall a vid where they put kenpatchi against shunsui and most were asskissing zaraki’s power( rightly so to a point) but where I said the comparison to Shunsui ends for kenpatchi is in Bankai, nobody up to this point verses lille could tell how powerful shunsui was apart from jushiro and yama. The scene where ichigo(trancendant)and askin were in shock at his reiatsu alone says how much stronger he is when he “releases” his true nature. This man, ever since his fight with chad has been my fav and will be the best written character apart from aizen i have ever seen.
Hold up so, like his shikai, his bankai can potentially do multiple different stage plays? All with different acts? I mean I imagine the lovers is one of the more powerfully emotional and effective ones to use, but there’s got to be other plays that can power him up, depower the opponent and do all kinds of other crazy things. Any number of different things. I wonder if he decides which play gets told or his sword?
I think, because of the question he first posed, maybe the bankai warps reality slightly, Shunsui asks what they see that's different, and their answers will give Katen Kyoukotsu Kuromatsu Shinju an idea of which play to use.
when i read it for first time i though that kyoraku Bankai warp the reality and bring a story to reality but base on your breakdown its really vague and confusing but still understandable thank's to breakdown this bankai
It's not that his bankai is based on a "stage play" per se. Where the shikai was based on the games of children, the bankai is based on the "games" that adults play: the fights, arguments and infidelities that destroy relationships and hurt the people in them. In the first act, the people share wounds because to hurt a lover is to hurt yourself. The water represents the sorrows and loneliness of being in a bad relationship (or, even worse, being alone after breaking up). In the final act, the infidelity is avenged by the woman slitting his throat. This is why his bankai is represented by a woman who is at the same time very familiar and intimate, but also a little standoffish and combative. Shunsui's whole personality and backstory are dominated by the memories of a woman, and the love that he has lost. Those feelings are weaponized in his bankai.
Great video, though there was one thing that I think was slightly off. For his shikai, Iro Oni's damage is proportional to the amount of the color the user is wearing, not the opponent. That's why when he called out black against Stark, he took off his captain's coat, because it meant he was covered in black and maximized the damage. The damage is proportional to the risk the user takes by naming a color they are wearing.
Coming back to this...as it looks like we will be getting this in Cour 3 sometime next year. I HOPE THEY DO IT JUSTICE because that Kyoraku mini-arc was so...head scratching.
I believe he has multiple plays but like how Kyokatsu is in charge of what they play in Shikai, I imagine Katen is also the one who decides the story in Bankai.
Imagine the Anime makes Shunsuis fight longer and we see an other horror story/game, wasnt really a huge fan of Nanaos family story thingy end for that fight, heard the Japanese fandom like it tho so idk if they gonna change that fight :/
I'm not making any comparisons in terms of power, but I think it's interesting, and good callback if it was intended, that yammammotos rieatsu was so strong it came forth to feel like physical heat to hashwalth, while shunsuis rieatsu was so strong, it felt like physical chills to chad and orihime. Obviously chad and orihime r much weaker than hashwalth so there's no comparison in strength, but it's interesting to note due to shunsui and yammammotos relationship, plus shunsui succeeding yammammoto as tge head captain.
Kyoraku has a scary fight style, pure no mercy,he didn't care about the fight dignity or pride, just kill the enemy, not like kenpachi who Wants to enjoy the fight and wont kill weak ones, but on the other hand kyoraku, kills unconditionally,he use strategies even cheating, Doesn't care if its fair or not,(assuming He does 2v1 against starrk) etc
Yea if he Can have different children games then he can definitely have different theatre acts form to his bankai... It's just you will have to know the games and if you don't you are always going to be at a disadvantage. So from what we see his bankai is gets bored really quick and if she chooses different children games. That has to carry over for sure so yes I'll would believe it has to be be different plays like a broadway show.
Being that to become a captain you have to reveal your bankai infront of the Head Captain and all the other captains… I do wonder how that worked out with certain characters. Like Shunsui, Shinji, Kenpachi Kuruyashiki, Aizen (who i can imagine his being crazy OP), etc
@@thebunz7 don't think that's accurate they've never fully realize their full potential until TYBW that's not plot armor they were just like that with kenpachi he put a limiter on himself and with ichigo his quincy half hid his full power from ichigo So they've never really fought at 200% of their full power until near the end of TYBW Zaraki even had it worse because his body is weaker than his own power
Ukitake's statement of his banki not being done where everyone could see it leads me to believe its like izans. its works when you can see it directly. Which is why he asked what the Sternritter could see. That was how he could confirm that he was within it and the acts could begin.

@@jackdonith he almost when bankai tho
Finally someone had the same thought,I always thought that wat ukitake meant was that it's not a good idea for kyoraku to release his Bankai where different people can see it cuz the scary thing about kyoraku Bankai is how unpredictable it is,if u know it's rules and stay calm it rly takes the huge advantage it has, even lille with his insane strength was terrified of kyoraku Bankai
No wonder noone shared this thought with you before. Because it is complete trash. Ukitake clearly said that because his bankai is too deadly.
I really hope we can see more games from his bankai, because its only logical that the STRONGEST ability of one's character can't always wait to be attacked, or hope that his reiatsu is bigger then his opponent's. Really nicely done!
no, it doesn’t matter who’s reiatsu is more, the bankai drains both completely
@@venotti86 how do you know?
@@venotti86 nope.. the 1 who has more reiatsu will survive...

Scary to think.
yama also said he only had 1, 1000 years ago.
with years of experience, they can develop the skills to use the bankai at its maximum potential..
@@asmerX100 agree yamamoto in bleach said that only shunsui and ukitake are only 2 capitains that mastered their bankai
Yeah but shame that is such a lame bankai. It is powerfull and all but boring as shit compared to Jakka. We need more fun zanpakuto in shikai form like Jakka. Not shadows and games...blah...where are the fun times when Ichigo was going balistic.
@@aljosaskrabelj8412Shunsui's Shikai is pretty damn hax though, the main problem is that his zanpakuto isn't always co-operative cos of its nature.
Does kyoraku win or lose to Lille?
@@ExultantTJ loose
He still almost used it…in fake karakura town
When I saw his Bankai in the manga for the first time I was so amazed and a little scared since he is such a kind person but has a scary Bankai. 😱
Can kyoraku beat zaraki in 1 on 1 fight?
@@mohddzulsafwanabdul2582 You’re joking right ?
Narratively, they both have plot Armour up their ass so their fight would probably get interrupted
Been waiting for you to cover this Bankai for the longest time, 1 minute in and I can tell it'll be a fire vid!
My favorite character in the whole Bleach series! Really love the dynamic between him n his vice captain
Shunsui's Bankai brings me to tears. It's unbelievably badass, while at the same time being poetic and graceful.
Thats one of the ability/game he uses
That's only one of the games his shikai has.
@@greed4316 thanks. Been a long time, but I remembered the color thing and thought it was all the same color-based game
You are correct. The explanation for iro oni given in the video was slightly off.
@@quincy2142 is his sword coming out in someones shadow also a game?? Or another separate ability??
I love Shunsui as a character and how literally nothing about him is simple. That said, I really do not believe his bankai is as simple as being limited to just the 1 play. I suspect just as his shikai was about to engage in multiple games, his bankai could do so, also. More Shunsui!!
He's 1st Captain for a reason
Shunsui Bankai works like a play or a movie/theatrical and it depends on what scene or acting that wish to play in the other opponent, any other opponent that are in the act can also interfere with the act by adding a new act into the Theatrical, as a result gaining the advantage or disadvantage,
Can't wait to see it in the anime it will be amazing hope they give him more time both of them Shunsui and Ukitake
His Bankai is broken, wish we could've seen more of it. Pure art 🎭
It's coming soon.. this arc.. will start play 2023
It’s coming can’t wait
Honestly might be my favorite Bankai, it fits him very well and is just cool as hell. I do really hope that theory about him having multiple Bankai plays is confirmed in the hell arc, it’d be amazing
honestly, if they just took more time making the arc much better and longer this would have been a masterpiece.
People like you kinda suck. And why these artists leave so unhealthy because you can’t just be grateful for what you got. You have to nitpick everything and take all the fun out of everything.
Him using it, is the proof that he was the perfect Yamaji successor.
heads up, using "suicidal" in the title might get you demonitized so maybe stick to the japanese name, love your vids btw!
+1
Oh well
Fuggit!
4 months later. Oh well
Pull your skirt up it's a word
Since he never wants to start the fight the “shame of starting the war” which is the act 2 of his bankai wouldn’t really effect him all that much
i love shunsui but Kisukes my favorite character and his bankai fits him so well and is OP, idk why people dont like it.
Probably gets a different script depending on how many people are caught up in the play. The one on-page use only involved the two of them, but with a larger cast you could act out different stories. Bet they're all tragedies, though.
I imagine if he caught entire enemy army he could get Oedipus Rex
Act I Pierces the feet of enemies
Act II 1st one to attack Kyoraku becomes marked as Oedipus
Act III all except Oedipus contract disease and person closest to him strangles him/herself to death
Act IV blinds Oedipus and has him attacked by plague victims
Great Breakdown! Can't wait to see this part animated
For this particular situation, he has to micro-manage his reitsu to have enough should he need to use his bankai. He is amazing.
it's gonna look awesome when animated
This is one of those abilities that will be way easier to understand in anime format plus it will be explained a little better.
His bankai is still amazing till this day. I dont know how to describe this pure beautiful experience, watching his bankai in anime /manga , its amazing man
And this is why BLEACH will forever be my GOAT.
The theatrical play is probably determined by the number of people that get caught/drag into it. So maybe he doesn’t even know what he’ll get at first
Personally, since his Shikai requires game participation, regardless of desire; and since his zanpakuto is described as selfish and difficult to work with -
I like the idea that there are many plays which his Bankai can perform, but that he does not have control over which one it is.
I think it’s fair to say that ges got multiple plays that depends on how his fight is going. There might a play thats is advantagous to him if he attacks first and stuff like that.
Suicidal Theater, quite a beautiful and fitting name for an abilty coming from items that are used for killing
Imagine Shunsui watching modern day media to get new ideas for his Bankai.
Pulls up his Bankai and the narrator goes: "I want to play a game", "May the odds be ever in your favor" or "Do you like scary movies?"
I know, I know, it should be theatrical plays. I just find it amusing that Shunsui might be interested on modern human pleasantries.
But knowing him, it would most likely be "Help stepbro, I'm stuck!"
Probably my favorite bankai in tybw, it's so ominous, powerful and badass, seeing this animated will definitely give me the chills
8:17 it's called *Iro Oni* (Color Demon), *not Eye Rooney.* Just a heads up.
In a way, it reminds me of how 'Twins' we're depicted in fantasy movies.
Where if you would hit one, the other would get bruised. 👍
Shunsui is a very fitting Cpt. commander. I mean there is a reason he was chosen.
'Katen kyokotsu karamatsu shinju' the name itself is amazing
I believe it is his sword choice
From the vid to the comments… such good theories😭🙏🏼
I think, because of the question he first posed, maybe the bankai warps reality slightly, Shunsui asks what they see that's different, and their answers will give Katen Kyoukotsu Kuromatsu Shinju an idea of which play to use.
when i read it for first time i though that kyoraku Bankai warp the reality and bring a story to reality but base on your breakdown its really vague and confusing but still understandable thank's to breakdown this bankai
Imagine if he could make movies come to life.
It’d be dope if you did a video on zanpaktos in general!
this is the bankai i'm most looking forward too seeing animated.
The shadows that appear on the ground are not 'arms' but silhouette of a pine tree - Kuromatsu means black pine
I love this video! Great job. Where I can find the manga's color version?? It's impressive
Been waiting for this one! 👊
Great research
But a random thoughts but with the Hell arc that Kubo is working I wonder could we see any Team Ups and possible Combo attacks from Bankai? 🤔

I just want to see his bankai in the anime now. Hopefully its as badass to watch as it sounds.

Act 2 is definitely the most confusing for me. Still my fav bankai tho great breakdown!
Just imagine Shunsui with Kisuke as his vice captain.
That would be too much
That’s stupid
He s bankai is indeed dangerous i would love him to grow further more
Great job. I enjoy your video he is one of my favorite characters on bleach. In this case you didn't mention his ability to move through shadows...
This guy really turned depression into a super power. The GOAT
Imagine the Anime makes Shunsuis fight longer and we see an other horror story/game, wasnt really a huge fan of Nanaos family story thingy end for that fight, heard the Japanese fandom like it tho so idk if they gonna change that fight :/
love your videos and narration!
Chad felt the same chills as when Shunsui whipped his ass the first time.
Kyoraku has a scary fight style, pure no mercy,he didn't care about the fight dignity or pride, just kill the enemy, not like kenpachi who Wants to enjoy the fight and wont kill weak ones, but on the other hand kyoraku, kills unconditionally,he use strategies even cheating, Doesn't care if its fair or not,(assuming He does 2v1 against starrk) etc
just build different 💪
Yea if he Can have different children games then he can definitely have different theatre acts form to his bankai... It's just you will have to know the games and if you don't you are always going to be at a disadvantage. So from what we see his bankai is gets bored really quick and if she chooses different children games. That has to carry over for sure so yes I'll would believe it has to be be different plays like a broadway show.
I just subscribe I hope ur making more content on bleach in the future, when the anime tybw comes out, 🙏
terrifying ability indeed. I would compare this to Itachi's Genjutsu. Impressive indeed.
Tbh shinsui's bankai is the one I fear the most out of the current captains
I dare say I Don't think even zaraki could survive it

Oh and 4th would be Gin Ichimaru. 5th would be Aizen.
@@ExultantTJ his durability is probably due to how long he's been a shinigami and is very talented
Kenpachi and Ichigo have plot armor. You can't beat plot armor unless you already have it. Simply put, don't bring a bankai to a one punch man fight.
@@thebunz7 don't think that's accurate they've never fully realize their full potential until TYBW that's not plot armor they were just like that with kenpachi he put a limiter on himself and with ichigo his quincy half hid his full power from ichigo
So they've never really fought at 200% of their full power until near the end of TYBW
Zaraki even had it worse because his body is weaker than his own power
basically this dude forces you to play squid games.
Ukitake's statement of his banki not being done where everyone could see it leads me to believe its like izans. its works when you can see it directly. Which is why he asked what the Sternritter could see. That was how he could confirm that he was within it and the acts could begin.
