Oh, people have cited me as Daniel Browne for the last 20 years. Don't know how that happened, but it's James. But that was a great community for Punch Out. Glad it's still kicking. Figuring out the subtle nuances back then was amazing.
Great to hear from you James! For what its worth, your strat "Browne's Way" was far ahead of its time and still reigns supreme in terms of consistency. I believe I began the script written with your name as James Browne, but I found another source from Sinister1 that had your name as Daniel Browne. I asked sinister, and he recalled it as Daniel, so I rolled with it, so that is my bad. Hope you enjoyed the video!
I definitely enjoyed the video very much. Brought back a lot of memories I came in to the Gamefaqs speedrun community pretty late in the game, but I didn't have the patience to grind out every fighter for thousands of fights. Everything was figured out by the time I showed up. But I didn't know my strat was still used until I saw this video. Kinda cool, and I'm glad I contributed.
@@jamesbrowne5496 I'm so glad you're still around! You were the pioneer of presentations like this. The Kingdom Carts series of this game still holds up today and was ahead of its time!
Well done Pap. Congratulations on never needing to talk about this awful fight again. I bet that feels better than anything else with this video. Another great one in the series!
It really does sound awful especially with the retry-ability. Sounds just terrible. Execution: hard Luck: impossible Star punch: ear rub Hotel: trivago
There are several Split Enz songs in my playlist, but I haven't had a chance to hear their whole discography yet. I'm so glad you included 'I see red' here, because I hadn't heard it before and it definitely deserves a spot on my playlist! Thanks for another great video, I've really been enjoying this world record history series!
2:22 pap: bull actually goes for four rolling jabs in the opening, so redtom buffered three more random- (paps brain): NO HE DID NOT, no one is doing this.
I remember playing Punch Out a lot when I was younger. My dad had an old NES console with various games and I’d have a blast playing this game. I remember getting one of those 1/16 random punches. I couldn’t believe I got one. I almost thought it was an unintentional glitch, but once I discovered more about the nature of this bald bull 2 fight. I was in shock.
Since this video series started, there's been one fight I've been looking forward to seeing, the fight that apparently MTPO speedrunners hate even more than this guy, the fight who's split is literally called "F LUCK". I'm so excited.
The one in 16 face jab is foreshadowing in it's finest. Mc hazard's like oh my sweet summer child would somebody tell him that the best strategy is literally chaining multiple 1 in 16 punches
How come Speed-runners of this game do not save state before the fight instead of fighting all the way from Piston to Bald Bull? Would doing so effect the RNG and, therefore the integrity of the game, or is it just purity?
No, summoning salt can pull off blindfolded R1's farm more frequently than anyone else. Dtysonator has a handful or Round 1's ever, and no one else has tried or been able to (I wasnt able to) So basically, no one will ever beat salt unless they can R1 tyson blindfolded pretty consistently. Any other strategical advancement will be no use, unless the player can R1 Tyson.
Missed opportunity from Matt Turk to not call his strats for BB something like "The 'Turk' Turkish". This fight truly never will be done proper justice.
@@Papamanual Got it. At least it would help with practice, I suppose. Really enjoy your PO videos, btw. Too bad I gave my Nintendo to my brother 35 years ago... would be fun to try some of this stuff.
Only thing wrong here was that you never talked about the TAS WR. I know this is in a series about the history of HUMAN world records, but I'm just gonna assume that the TAS WR just has a stupid amount of those 1-in-16 punches in it. Would've been nice to see you calculate the odds on that. xP Pretty solid video, otherwise, though. Good job.
Yes I didnt include it because there is really nothing in the TAS's that is applicable for humans... The TAS progression is: 1:08.97 by Phil & Genisto 1:08.97 by Adelikat (saves 2 frames but not enough to drop increment) 1:08.82 by McHazard (2013) 1:08.48 by McHazard (2020) They are all super close, but the methodology to save even a little bit of time is actually pretty intricate - but yeah, they all involve lots of 1/16 face punches.
There's something so classically Matt Turk about developing a 1 in a million strat on one of the least efficient-to-attempt fights.
Babe wake up new 20 minute long analysis of game old enough to be ur dad JUST dropped
The Stone Cold entrance had me in a fit of laughter.
It seems wild how much of this fight is up to chance.

I can't believe that bald bull got such a amazingly quick world record!
Name for the unnamed strategy :the bull bypass
How come Speed-runners of this game do not save state before the fight instead of fighting all the way from Piston to Bald Bull? Would doing so effect the RNG and, therefore the integrity of the game, or is it just purity?
Using a savestate does save the RNG, so you can setup a savestate to give you better or even optimal results compared to what would normally happen.
@@Papamanual thanks for the response! Another banger video. 💫
Question: Why has the community made the rule that you can't use savestates before a fight to gring ILs?
It saves the RNG, meaning you can set up a savestate to give you optimal results (atleast for the start of the fight)
i'm gonna start calling you Plap, cause i'd let you plap me anytime
man what the hell
@@oatmeal3013 not even gonna ask what that is
This video series in general doesn’t get enough love view wise in my opinion
Why do you need to fight your way through Honda and soda? Since emulators are allowed, can't you start a single segment fight on Bull?
The current community has banned save states since these save RNG, and you can technically set up a save state that will give optimal luck.
Like anyone's ever gonna get that.@@Papamanual
has there been any work on Punch-Out!! blindfolded?

Brandon DaSilva is all over these videos, but he's no longer listed on any MTPO Speedrunning Page; what happened with him?
He asked to not have his videos on speedrun.com

Quick question, would it bf possible to cover games like Big Boy Boxing or Thunder Ray? They are inspired by Punch-Out, after all.
I havent even heard about those games, let alone know anything about the, so i really doubt I will cover them.
