Curious to see how these are ranked. My personal opinion of the game has always been it has a *perfect* difficulty curve... until you get from Macho Man to Tyson. It's a pretty smooth ride up, and suddenly the final boss is twice as hard as the guy before him, wtf. lol
I think part of the reason this game was so successful and is looked backed so fondly on is just cause of how rewarding it feels to overcome. Played this when I was 10 and definitely really enjoyed it, it felt challenging in the right kind of way and not like a chore.
Sandman is the second hardest fight in the game. He should be S tier IMO. Even in speed running, he has the 2nd longest time. He and Macho Man aren’t in the same class.
I haven't played the Arcade games but I've got to say, Sandman and Macho Man are absolute nightmares here compared to Super Punch Out and Punch Out Wii. Both the Dreamland Express and the Super Spin Punch have massive tells in those games, but here it's a mere flash, blink and you'll miss it and you're down for the count, made worse by the fact they can knock you down right after getting up, ruining your momentum. Soda Pop and Bull 2 took me quite a bit to learn but they were nothing compared to these two final boxers (before Tyson). Not only that but the speed and power they have is higher than any other boxer before them, they deserve their own tier, just below Iron Mike. Also, Bald Bull 2 is the fourth hardest fight in the game, there is no world in which he is weaker/easier than Honda 2 and his Major Circuit counterpart. He has a pretty complex pattern with tricky timing, with delays and fast powerful blows, the Bull Charge has a much smaller window to counter and the Star punch Gimmick makes this fight one of the most tense encounters in the entire game, they nailed the intmidation and pressure factors perfectly here. If they didn't make Bull 2 beatable by Decision he would be an absolute nightmare, knocking him out isn't impossible, I can do it consitently with both Stars and Bull Charge counters, but there are times where it's much safer to stall to the Decsion once you have over 7k points. But it's a solid list! That's a bit of a wall of text, I know lol
Tyson has a weakness in the 2nd or 3rd round. When you get pink against him there, he almost always throws the same 3 punch combo*. This makes him more predictable. Nobody else has this flaw and it is a very bad thing to get pink against them. But, on Tyson, it is a great thing! The only exception is when he WINK pauses to do his combos in these rounds; occasionally, he'll do that WINK combo even when you are pink. Anyway, dodge his combo and attack. It is also a great place to land a star AT THE END OF YOUR ATTACK. GREAT LIST... *It does not work in Round 1...
I thought there was a tried and true pattern for a first round TKO on Tyson back in the day. I can’t remember it now. We got all our shortcuts from Nintendo Power magazine at that time. Which only came out 6x/year
On Macho Man RNG, I learned that the timer will start running again on his final punch (it stops during the main portion of the attack). Good vid! Getting the Honda 2 TKO is a nightmare.
Wouldn’t it be funny if Glass Joe actually had the talent to become a legendary boxer, but after beating Nick in his first official fight he became so cocky in his next fight that his opponent could hit him hard enough to give him amnesia. Then Glass Joe kept his passion for boxing while forgetting how to fight, but kept fighting because no matter how much he got hurt, he never stopped loving boxing.
I've only ever beaten Tyson (or Mr. Dream, as it was for me) once. It was incredibly assisted, as I had to watch all of KoachKrab's tutorial videos from Bald Bull 1 until the end, and it was still an absolute headache. It is a great memory I have of this game.
And i was somehow able to beat this game on an emulator without knowing how to use stars (and for second bald bull i countered the bullcharge and got a ko)
For me, after playing this game for many years, there are 3 very difficult fights in this game: 1. Mike Tyson, 2. Mr. Sandman, and 3. Soda Popinski. I beat Super Macho Man the first time I fought him as a kid. to me he's a more predictable Soda Popinski.
I’m going to say that glass Joe should be bumped up a their because a lot of new players have a hard time with him if they don’t really know the whole dodge and counter punch thing
Unpopular opinion: i think bald bull 1 is harder than mr sandman. That bull charge is nearly impossible to counter man. Mr sandman is challanging, but once you get the head body combo down on him you are fine.
@@BigDaddyCola I play on my desktop computer. I guess I am the direct opposite cause I think sandman is one of the easiest fight of the game and Tyson, Macho, and Bull the hardest 🤣
The Super Spin Punch (The one he throws after he gets knocked down) is the hardest punch to dodge before you get to Tyson. Mr. Sandman is a cake walk compared to Macho Man. They aren't even close in difficulty. Once you beat Sandman, you will never lose to him again unless you just have horrendously bad execution. With Machoman, he can just keep spinning on the Super Spin Punch until he gets you.
Let's not forget about Sandman's DLX. It's not as random as the spin punches, but very awkward to deal with at first. I will say that maybe I rated Macho a little low. This is based off feedback from others as well. @k_three has Macho at s tier ;)
@@twinstarMD Once you get the timing down to dodge the dreamland express, you'll easily beat Sandman in the second round every time. The only reason you can't get him in the first round is because he wastes the first minute throwing jabs and he doesn't do the dreamland express after he is knocked down in the first round.
Some of the ranking of this video seem arbitrary. Tons of information about how certain World Circuit boxers are hard… then a low ranking? Sure. Also, Mr. Dream supposedly has an exploit when compared to Mike Tyson. If that's true, Mr. Dream is an easy A-Rank, not an S-Rank.

only twice?!?!
Sandman is way worse to fight then macho. It’s even worse since you have to fight 4 fights before it
@@Kingmonkey836 thats not really a consideration here. also new players wont know about the macho code until _after_ they beat him
I was never able to beat Sandman as a kid, I found the code for macho and eventually beat him
@@Kingmonkey836agreed. Sandman is the second hardest in the game.

Same , I've had a hard time defeating him in the 1st round

i don't remember anything more frustrating as a kid than losing to Soda. that laugh...

I wonder if there’s a rom hack where instead of Tyson, you fight Muhammad Ali at the end.

I'm surprised you didn't go over the little blinking fits that Tyson has. And when he throws those quick jobs repeatedly. Still very nice video
Soda Popinski should be an automatic S tier due to the fact that his original (arcade) name was Vodka Drunkenski.
I completely agree that Sandman was def harder than Macho. He was the first fighter got me and my bros stuck for weeks haha
Get stars with Kaiser just uppercut him once then use a star punch he'll make a funny sound and knock him down
Man, Sandman is giving me hell. I am so close but so far from beating him. I hear he is more challenging than Macho Man as well.
There's just no way even the second Piston Honda should be on the same tier as Super Macho and Sandman. He's far easier than both of them.
I’m going to say that glass Joe should be bumped up a their because a lot of new players have a hard time with him if they don’t really know the whole dodge and counter punch thing
