When introduced in the D10 the D348 had 10 years of service in other Cat machines while the 3508 did not.The 3508 was brand new in the D11N/777B when introduced in 1986.

The D348 was used in Caterpillar equipment abut 18 years before the 3508 found its way into a 777B or a D11N for that matter

Yeah the old D10's were a grand machine and I'm not knocking them, the first high track and they brought dozers into the odern world, but there not really a good idea any more,
    1) D348T engine not as reliable as the 3508.
    2) Burn a lot of fuel
    3) Getting hard to find parts easily/quickly
    4) D10Ls lighter and not as well made as the D11's, due to being the first modle.
    5) Blade not designed as well as the newer dozers.

There was never a D10L.Just a D10.Parts can be found in salvage yards or more importantly at Caterpillar dealers across the U.S.Of course the D10s are lighter then the D11Ns that followed. The D11Ns got a bigger engine along with a longer undercarriage that is 24 inches the the D10s
