After the Temptations, I didn't think that anyone could ever use this phrase as a song title again, but true talent and rock and roll and soul never die and shine on.
This guy can sing beautifully, I love his soft but strong voice and how it brings back the old R & B style that many of us miss now a days. Great job Mayer and please don't stop creating these great tunes.
Yes yes. "That old R& B style that many if us miss now a days" Do I ever! Beautiful music with heart & soul for all ppl.( Instead of constant yelling and diss tracks about who can be the biggest poser ala Rick Ross)
Well I wish that it would rain Heavy rain down from the sky Maybe then you wouldn’t see the teardrops in my eyes Well I wish that it would rain It would be a great disguise Maybe then you wouldn’t see the teardrops in my eyes And all of the raindrops that fall down on my face Erase all the memories of you and your embrace I’ll long for the moment that I lose this bitter taste And I don’t want you to see me this way Well I wish that it would rain Heavy rain down from the sky Oooh maybe then I wouldn’t see you walking right on by Well I wish that it would rain Let it storm just for awhile Oohh yeah maybe then you wouldn’t see this sadness in my smile Ooh noo and all of the raindrops that fall down on my face Erase all the memories of you and your embrace I’ll long for the moment that I lose this bitter taste And I don’t want you to see me this way Rain down rain down [x2] Rain down rain down on me [Repeat]
I just found out about Mayer Hawthorne and am so happy I did. Literally EVERY song is amazing. Love this guy. Only suggestion I would have is more horns haha I miss horns so much in music. Still great stuff!
Mayer thank you for sharing a beautiful song. I had days tears stream down my face only if raindrops erase memories of love now gone would be easier to move on.
I sooooooo love this old school sound. He got the Stylistics and Delfonics sound. He get so many cool points for this track. Love his sound. My generation don't really have this kind of mellow vibe goin on, they rather focus on screwing and make'n money and get'n high.
I feel like Mayer's interpretation focuses a lot on the reflection. When you're looking back on a relationship that really affected you, it's hard not to be nostalgic, even if it was a bit horrible. The bittersweet memories.
Love the melody I've been lookin 4 this song 4 like 3 years now I had 4 got the name Mayer Hawthorne but he got sum classics hope u keep that soul n u no matter what show these artists how its done!!!!!
IKR!! I understood their kids intentions, but I wouldn't want to live out the rest of my days in some nursing home. I'd wanna go peacefully in my own home!
A great thing here,Mayer pays tribute, and brings back the ole' Motown riffs, and hooks, updating them, but not changing them too much, without ruining them.Remember,if Mayer, and others don't keep this "sound", and "era" alive,it will be dead all together. In music, each group, learns from the other.Roger Troutman,T-Pain,Usher,and others use "Talk-Box" today, perfected by Peter Frampton in 70's,and Rap groups all sample hooks and riffs from 80s New Wave Bands today,or remake their classics-Nice.
This guy is badd ass,I listen to Oldies But Goodies every day and Mayer Hawthorne has just been added to my every day music listening. Thanks for posting.
@@kaileegirl1785 Yeah, he admits that he originally made these tunes as copies of classic tunes. He wrote new lyrics and vocal melodies so that he could legally DJ with tunes he grew up loving. Still incredible material but yes the instrumental tracks are basically exact copies of other songs. Good ear!
I first heard Mayer Hawthorne on Music Choice and it reminded me of jus some old school classics my mama would play and still does and ever since day one i became in love with this music and im only 18 bt have an old soul and love old school music. LOVE IT!!!
This is so dope, I've been waiting for something like this. This makes me feel so good even tho I'm so down right now. This is knockn'!!! Keep true to this Mayer, this is such a lost art very few appreciate, & I'm one of the few. DOPE!!!
Haha he filmed this right by my house, so tight! My homies uncle owns the shop their sitting at as well- larchmont wine and cheese!representing hp real hard in this video!
This is my first time listening to this guy and I can't believe how much I really enjoy his style of music. It's as if I've been taken back to a period in time when classic songs from the Delfonics or Bloodstone were popular. I love it! Where has this guy been hiding?
Not that this isn't a good song in its own right, but I do agree with whoever said that this is an artistic rendition of the Temptations song. I would be absolutely shocked if Hawthorne didn't know the Temptations song. I think he heard the Temptations song and in one way or another, consciously or subconsciously, was like "that's a great song. I can relate to that, but I wanna put it in a different context and make it my own" maybe because the Temps song is too cheerful sounding or some other reason, who knows. The music, very different. Same key, but different tempo, feel, vocal delivery, yes. very much different. Outside of them falling under the huge umbrella of "Soul music", there aren't too many similarities between these two songs that wouldn't be shared by any other two soul songs (they both have background vocals, they both have drums and bass and etc etc) But if you cannot see at all how these lyrics are at least similar, if you think that the only thing in common between the lyrical matter of the two songs is their title, then I don't think you understand English. TEMPS: "My eyes search the skies, desperately for rain. 'Cause raindrops will hide my teardrops. And no one will ever know. That I'm cryin'... cryin' when I go outside." "I need rain to disguise the tears in my eyes." HAWTHORNE: "Well I wish that it would rain Heavy rain down from the sky Maybe then you wouldn’t see the teardrops in my eyes" "Well I wish that it would rain It would be a great disguise Maybe then you wouldn’t see the teardrops in my eyes " They tell the same story: I wish it would rain so that raindrops would fall on my face and if the girl I love that I can't have or anyone else sees me, they won't be able to tell the difference between my tears and the raindrops on my cheeks because I'M SAD. That's it. It's the difference between saying "I got abducted by aliens last night" and "Last night, some aliens took me, by force, into their ship". If you think those statements are essentially different, than you might think the lyrics in these two songs also share no similarity.
He’s so underrated I love his music keep going don’t stop we need a breath of fresh air like this.

I'm happily married, not even heart broken, but I still feel this song.
Grace & Frankie brought me here! Thank God! Wouldn’t want to miss this!!
Well I wish that it would rain
Heavy rain down from the sky
Maybe then you wouldn’t see the teardrops in my eyes
Well I wish that it would rain
It would be a great disguise
Maybe then you wouldn’t see the teardrops in my eyes
And all of the raindrops that fall down on my face
Erase all the memories of you and your embrace
I’ll long for the moment that I lose this bitter taste
And I don’t want you to see me this way
Well I wish that it would rain
Heavy rain down from the sky
Oooh maybe then I wouldn’t see you walking right on by
Well I wish that it would rain
Let it storm just for awhile
Oohh yeah maybe then you wouldn’t see this sadness in my smile
Ooh noo and all of the raindrops that fall down on my face
Erase all the memories of you and your embrace
I’ll long for the moment that I lose this bitter taste
And I don’t want you to see me this way
Rain down rain down [x2]
Rain down rain down on me

Soulful at its finest, it has that 60's flavor to it :).
