I love watching the Irving Berlin medley on Ed Sullivan. Mary really shone as a singer and a wonderful performer. Jazz and a Broadway career could have well been in the stars for her but Motown was so single minded that talent like hers....and so many others....was discarded. This is a lovely performance.
I use to love to hear her do this in concert at Westbury Music Fair. They would fill the floor with fog and Mary would sit on a stool in the middle of spotlight and just light up the entire theater....excellent!
Mary Wilson's a fantastic musical genuine is FOREVER, our QUEEN has ALWAYS been a MARVELOUS, class ACT anywhere IN the musical world....my favorite SUPREME.....PS we LUV you Madly....
Perfection! At some point, Mary learned what fit her voice best. She really excelled on slow, smoky ballads. She was great on blusey, jazzy numbers sung in intimate rooms. I loved how she sang "Fields of Gold," "Here's to Life" and "I'm Changing." This is equally arresting.
So miss you sweet gorgeous Mary. Gave me such great music through my youth...Still thanking you, and will til i'm out...What a light, What a Star ! Cool gown and necklace ! 💖
Oh yeah, that's where I am right about now.......a New York State of Mind. I loved it when she sang this in concert here in NYC. Mary is simply the best live artist. Thank you.
Hi Mary Wilson all I can say is you are a great inspiration to the whole wide worlld with your style class and your determination you are a superstar and we love you so much keep doing doing it when I saw you this morning I was so happy I jumped out of my bed just to see you perform thank you very much
Mary was at 63rd and the West End. I was at 63rd and 1st. We met on Park Avenue, and I got to see her do this "Live" with Billy's original Sax-man...great night in my life. Thank you Mary...it was awesome, and you get NY, the way I do. Love it with All My Heart. Same as Billy, too.
I'm impressed,Nice rich soulful tone- Mary's voice has matured well and her confidence has grown with time. I like the classic hits with Diana Ross singing lead and I love the 70's Supremes with Jean. Each was perfect for the time. It's such a shame that Mary & Flo didn't get the chance to record more lead vocals on songs better suited to their voices. I believe that would have broadened their appeal, given them a more sophisticated sound and Flo would have stuck around until the end- whenever that might have been. Lots of early Supremes album tracks 64-69 are almost unlistenable today, ruined by Diana Ross's helium propelled vocals, often struggling to reach notes and out of key on songs clearly not suited to her voice. Diana Ross's reedy thin voice would not be able to cope with material like New York State of Mind today, I would also go as far to say that Mary is much more interesting to listen to being interviewed- far more candid and has a charm and personality- a warmth and likeability that that Diana lacks
@DetroitLives313 _ You know, Mister, I can certainly agree! I know others are thinking otherwise. There are MANY GREATS out there! But there is just SOMEthing that Mary Has that sets her apart and above the others, and it's that Magic that She Has, and it is SUPREME MARY MAGIC! It has an effect on others like no other, and it's very HUMANitarian beyond 'comprehend'! I love watching and hearing, and 'seeing' and feeling, and EXPERIENCING the MAGIC of MARY WILSON SUPREME!
SAN FRANCISCO STATE OF MIND on Friday and Saturday the 16 &17 of February 2018 at THE NIKKO HOTEL "Feinstein At The Nikko Room" performing her renown Cabaret Act that thrills audiences globally. Not to be missed, I got my reservations!
This woman is never NOT gorgeous--she is always beautiful-looking! Her voice was never not there--it's just that Mary found the spirit inside of her all along to support it and shine it out. :) Great performance.
MS. MARY WILSON! THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC! THANK YOU FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT! Here the QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME sings the QUINTESSENTIAL SONG to the QUINTESSENTIAL METROPOLIS capital and melting pot of the world, NEW YORK CITY! "If You Can Make It There, You Can Make It Anywhere" New York, New York!
@shmuli9 I just returned from Las Vegas and I witnessed her show at The Riviera Hotel & Casino (6/22/11 to 7/3/11) and she was outstanding, her rendition of "Here's To Life" only she & Shirley Horn do the right justice to that song. She takes you into an intimate journey of her professional life from the original SUPREMES, to the 1970's SUPREMES, to her renditions of many songs like this one, the one previously mentioned, Rock, Blues & Jazz the woman is an American Treasure!
MS. MARY WILSON in October 2012 will be in Pre-Production for the Hollywood Film "THE GOLDEN SHOES" that will be shot in location in Detroit Michigan! Ms. Wilson will be sharing the screen with Vivica A. Fox, Eric Roberts, Montel Williams and others. "WE LOVE YOU MARY, BREAK A LEG" :-)
For those who didn't see "Mary Wilson's At The Copa" she's back by popular demand from June 22, 2011 to July 03, 2011 at "The Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada." Mary, our appointed United States Cultural Ambassador has a show that's part of her world wide tour that represents around the globe our art & culture! Mary Wilson THE QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME!
@shmuli9 Mary is one of the absolute best vocalists out there today. I've heard her sing this live several times and each time she's knocked it out of the park!
This is not only UNIQUE but a BEAUTIFUL rendition of the QUINTESSENTIAL New York song by the QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME, The one and only Ms. MARY WILSON! Diana WHO ? :-)
@ramona2400 I just saw Mary Wilson VERY up close 3 weeks ago in Brooklyn, NY and she has lost a substantial amount of weight. In a word she was very slim and fit looking. She wore a very tight, long black sparkling gown that showed she has dropped the weight and had some very nice curves...
THIS "SUPREME" TALENT, MS. MARY WILSON has not only mature but come into her own as a performer and if anyone has the privilege of witnessing one of her intimate performances as I did at "The Starlight Room of The Riviera Hotel & Casino" (6/22/11 to 7/3/11) only then her depth, sensitivity and feeling can be experienced a treasured into ones musical journey! "TOUCH"
this is the way you think? Twisted. Sad. that said, this is a great performance. It would be nice for Mary to get into the studio with a good producer and cut a jazz album.
While her solo career has been a series of oohs and aahs since Midnight Dancer and Red Hot, Mary Wilson HANDLED THE FUCK OUT OF THIS VERSION!!!!! Better late than never, chick. Carmen McRae bows from jazz heaven to you! She might can't sing much of that pop shit, but she should have come over to jazz back in the 80s and did the Natalie Cole thing - easily would have blown Diana Ross' Lady Sings The Blues out the water.
She does an excellent job on this. I don't know WHY Berry Gordy said "oh, Mary, you can't sing." There was a time in the mid-1970s when she tried to "soul", but all of her songs previous to that (like "Falling in Love with Love", "Touch", and "Baby Don't Go") and from about 1979 onwards (like 'You Danced My Heart around the Stars") are very good...
shmuli9 I blame her, she should've left motown after supremes was disbanded, him making such a negative comment about her talent hinted that she wasn't going anywhere under his 'umbrella',BUT CAN BERRY SING?. The bugger was wrong,
Mary sings great here, but I could never get used to a night club type atmosphere. It's just not my thing.I just don't have a New York State of Mind.Still love you Mary.
NO WONDER MS. MARY WILSON IS NOT ONLY CONSIDER TODAY IN 2012 "THE LIVING LEGACY OF THE SUPREMES" BUT WITHOUT A DOUBT "THE QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME" LIKE THIS IS ONE OF "THE QUINTESSENTIAL NEW YORK CITY SONGS" AND SHE MADE BILLY JOEL PROUD!
@loveblind She don't do Ross songs. She sings Supremes songs which are just much her songs and anyone else's and she is superb singing them. I know because I've seen her in concert several dozen times over the years!
@TWTR4EVER You so bad! I love it LOL!!!! I want to wish you a very Mary Merry Christmas and the happiest of Holidays. Be safe, be happy and peaceful.........!
@stage7 Mary Wilson not only has endured as THE SUPREME, SUPREME but as a woman, humanitarian and entertainer! Her "AURA" it's not only clear of the DIANA ROSS POLLUTED TRAJECTORY OF DECEIT but an inspiration for generations to come! MARY WILSON IT'S SOMETHING TO ASPIRE TOO, a role model unlike the WICKED WITCH OF THE BREWSTER PROJECTS DETROIT MICHIGAN, DIANE ROSS!
@Lightner445555555555 I didn/t call them diana songs - i called them supremes songs. But i did say and still beleive that no one can sing those songs like diana.
MS. MARY WILSON! JUNE 22, 2011 to JULY 03, 2011 / LAS VEGAS / THE RIVIERA HOTEL & CASINO! OUR QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME IS BACK! Experience the LADY MOTOWN on her TOUR DE FORCE!
@DetroitLives313 I I don't think she is superb singing those "Supreme" songs...Sorry. It just puts her back into Ross' shadow.......However I do think she is extremely superb doing her own thing...Jazz. She is one of the best I have ever heard......IMHO
When I saw her in 1998 at age 54,she hardly looked 40 and still had those curves.I even hugged her and tearfully told her I loved her.She knew I really cared more about her and not being a celebrity. She had a mist in those beautiful brown eyes.Neither one of us knew what to say,so I let go and she kissed me and I got her autograph.I talked with her a while and suddenly took her hand and slowly let go as I was saying goodbye. For some reason I thought I was interfereing with her giving autographs.
I'm a huge Whitney fan. Is it just me or do you think Whitney would look kind of like her in the next 10 years. I think even the singing would be a little similar!
Jacob Mackey .... No, it's NOT just you bro. I've noticed that long ago and felt like she targeted Mary's image, and MANY times I've seen it, AND some of her....'ways_'...... Instead of Diana's! I've seen it so often but said nothing because of people's foolishness! But I've DEFINITELY SEEN it and SAID it! I'm glad you said it too!
@Lightner445555555555 Those were and will always be Supremes songs which means Florence Ballard and the great Mary Wilson here. Anyone that says different is delusional.
She sounds sensational. Motown legend Mary Wilson!!
5 stars here...Mary should be singing Jazz all the time and doing movies!
I've heard quite a number of interpretations of this song and Mary's is very much at the top of the list. Diane Schuur's is great as well.
MS MARY WILSON IS IN THE ZONE!!!!!!!!!!
SUPREME!!!!!!!!!
Great interpretation by Mary...just love her smoky alto..."Touch"
beautiful tones what a voice ...love it
I love watching the Irving Berlin medley on Ed Sullivan. Mary really shone as a singer and a wonderful performer. Jazz and a Broadway career could have well been in the stars for her but Motown was so single minded that talent like hers....and so many others....was discarded. This is a lovely performance.
Forever young..what a lovely Lady....Inside and out..
Mary you sound fantastic here. I loved it when you sang it for us here in New York. Please come back soon.
I use to love to hear her do this in concert at Westbury Music Fair. They would fill the floor with fog and Mary would sit on a stool in the middle of spotlight and just light up the entire theater....excellent!
I love her phrasing. Quintessentially 1960s. If you notice it's the same style as Aretha, Dionne and others from that period.
Mary Wilson is an excellent singer. She can sing just about any style of popular music. What a legend!!!!
Mary Wilson's a fantastic musical genuine is FOREVER, our QUEEN has ALWAYS been a MARVELOUS, class ACT anywhere IN the musical world....my favorite SUPREME.....PS we LUV you Madly....
Ì like that sòng that Mary. Màry is still the supreme queen
Very nice Ms. Wilson. Each one of the Supremes could sing. I miss Flo . But you Ms. Wilson should keep doing your single act. Love you sister.
She's great
I'm crying. Rip. Missing you
I never knew she could sound this good.
Mary, girl you rocking the song, you sound great with your super classy self. She is an fantastic entertainer and songbird.
This is one of the best performances of this song I've ever heard! Mary Wilson the Supremes Songstress!
I can listen to this everyday! Everyday I am in a New York State of Mind, thank you Ms Wilson!!!
she actually sings it in a NY state of mind!
Perfection! At some point, Mary learned what fit her voice best. She really excelled on slow, smoky ballads. She was great on blusey, jazzy numbers sung in intimate rooms. I loved how she sang "Fields of Gold," "Here's to Life" and "I'm Changing." This is equally arresting.
@bigbear39ca hahaha! Mary always had that smokey voice. She sounds great. It's very unusual.
Thank you.

@DetroitLives313 I've never heard her "live", but I liked her voice... And you could ALWAYS tell when she sang backup in the Supremes...
This is just SUPERB! You go on Mary and SANG!!!!!! Love it!
FABULOUS!!!
I had the privilege of hearing her sing this live in DC at the Blues Alley. RIP, fave.
WITHOUT A DOUBT, in 2016 THE QUEEN OF "THE SUPREMES" Ms Mary Wilson has set her own style and pace, lovely rendition and she made it her own!
I'm impressed,Nice rich soulful tone- Mary's voice has matured well and her confidence has grown with time. She certainly sounds better here than she does singing Diana's leads on The Supremes hits.
@DetroitLives313 Ok...But i am sure we agree that she is indeed Supreme, talented and deserves only the best!
Honey 🍯 only you can do the torch slow ones. 🙏 RIP.
This type of music suits her smoky voice very well.
@TWTR4EVER Got your Message, couldnt get back on INbox for some reason....Always like to hear from you......Take care.....C...
