Dearest Peggy, You break my heart. Every note out of your gorgeous mouth makes me sink deeper into a dream of true love and beauty. You were and are beauty defined. This performance hurts. Longing for another note at the end. As I do now. 25 years later.
Wow, even at age 74, and had just 7 more years to live, but she was still marvelous, and beautiful! What a gal! What a voice --Terrific! Thank you for posting this lovely farewell from a oh so gracious lady!
This was indeed very near the end. Her precarious health posed so many problems she could not perform anymore even though she wanted to and never attended to stop. I saw her sing this magic Gershwin piece and her trademark closing song when she appeared in St. Louis. I flew in from Chicago to see her and took my parents and cousin as guests. She was, in a word, magic. Also very funny trading bon mots with her musicians. A master artist.
I actually saw her do a lengthy set at the Hollywood Bowl this same year (1995), on a double bill with Mel Torme. She was stronger than anyone expected her to be - even strolling out under her own power, on the arm of an assistant - but I believe it was her last major concert appearance.
This is still pretty darn good despite any health issues...she was really something. There are old stars still with us that continue to sing who long ago lost their voices. Here, she still has it, but she's not in best health. Amazing her voice was intact.
There was no greater fortune than to be alive during the lifetime of this most powerful songstress;her presence, her grace, her instrument, uniquely hers will always be held closely to my grateful heart!!❤
Nobody sang a song like Peggy......what an amazing voice. Even this late in her life, there is no question hearing the voice and phrasing that it could only be Peggy.
Am so glad that I saw her front row table early 1980 ‘s at the Imperial Room at the Royal York , Toronto . A occasion inbedded in my memories . Have loved her music , her career all my life . She stood there bathed in a single key light directly above her , a pin could be heard to drop she sang . The room went mad .
Ron-Wayne Hoekstra, hello! Couldn't help but notice that you saw (and heard!) Ms. Peggy Lee at our old Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Lucky you! She was such an inspiration to me during my club-singing days there. Her singing was so subtle, yet left a BIG impression. This was indeed, a very touching video. Cheers!
It was heart breaking to learn about Miss Lee's terrible childhood. How wonderful that she seemed to overcome it. Hopefully. She was an international treasure. What a sultry, velvet voice, so unique.
RIP to the most talent singer since....... no body. vary few women can perform with such power, and raw energy, and can do it so perfect and lovey, miss peggy lee, Tina turner, cher, Patti smith, ms.franklin, nico, davis streeker and dusty springfild are the Queens of music!!!! hail to them forever, and thanks to the glory of t.v and youtube and t.v they will be enjoyed and remeber forever!

I morn the loss of class and sophistication in our society. No one is perfect and we all have our prejudices, yet that does not mean everyone has to be one’s designated enemy. We have to find a way to unite around a set of common values.
The real ones never lose it.
Even when her voice was fading, she knew how to temper it, and created an effective performance. she was some performer!
And that's without mentioning that she continued performing even though she was in a wheelchair.

There will never be another like Peggy Lee....she was one of the greats, and she will live on in our hearts, forever....
One of the greats for sure! Beautiful, always poised, gorgeous voice and such class. Why don’t we have performers like this anymore.

Sounding so warm, and sincere. Singing better than we might have expected. Love you Peggy.
