Can I achieve a good level of physique with adjustable dumbbells and an adjustable bench? Not sure I have the space or money for a whole barbell set up
If you don't have the means of outfitting a complete home gym currently, no sweat. We've got a whole playlist of killer no-gym needed bodyweight workouts on the channel. And you don't have to get all of these things at once. You can buy a few pieces at a time and gradually build your gym as you see fit.
They literally listed everything that you will find in a gym haha, why not say all you need is a bench, some bands and maybe 5-50 pound dumbbells. Cost affective and you can get a good workout.
@@michaelrincon559 Exactly I have a rack of dumb bells, incline decline bench, flat bench, and stability ball. My next purchase will be a fan bike and some resistance bands it will be a while before I add a half power rack.
My brothers and I split the cost of a rogue gym set up for our home and I couldn’t be happier. It’s expensive but totally worth the investment. Exceptional quality equipment.
Yep, I agree. I can do as many sets of something that I want to work on as I want without someone giving me the stink-eye. No one asking me how many sets I have left. No one offering freed "advice" on how to do an exercise better etc.... And I know who was on the bench before me as far as diseases go. It's always there. If I can't sleep, I can take a ride on my ECHO bike....THAT will get me tired. No driving home after a workout that I go all out in. Oh, and if I ever get tired of working out (doubtful) I can sell it and at least get something out of it. And my garage is always open.....Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day.....
Definitely a great piece to add in. As long as your home gym isn't in an apartment... could lead to some poor relations with your lower floor neighbours hahaha

At least you know where to subscribe to get the info you're looking for so you don't run into a situation like that again in the future. Glad you got what you needed! Thanks for watching :)
Wow, you guys' gym is insane!!! I furnished a home gym last year as my present to myself for finishing grad school. I went with a Sorinex Base Camp rack with an Elite FTS high/low cable set-up. Best decision ever!!!
I bought a set of 5-25 dumbbells and lost 40 lbs. No excuses. Everything in this video but the squat rack/barbell is good enough for whatever room you sleep in. I just ordered some Onnit primal kettlebells and the Rogue Echo bike for my newest additions to my garage gym.
For me the essentials are: Barbell + Plates Adjustable Dumbells Adjustable Bench Rack (with Pullup+Dip bars) Cable/Pulley system. Dont really need anything else.
Exactly what I have now! I built it in 2 weeks. I bought everything used except the adjustable bench. Spent a little under 1500. I could’ve went cheaper but I wanted quality. I’m gonna add a dip rack with pull up. And also a squat half cage. Oh I also bought a preacher curl bench with bar.
Leo H I bought some of my weights on FB, some from a sports store 10 miles from my home that I saw an ad on FB. Not the best price. $1.50/lbs for 2” Olympic weights and $1.00 for standard 1” weight plates. Overpriced I know but it’s LI/NYC area what can one expect? Also ppl are all price gouging at the moment which I’m sure you know. I also buy a lot of used equipment from the app Let Go. I scored my cable machine that takes both size plates for $300 delivered. New was $700-800 before shipping. The multi bench I bought before Corona, very good quality. I got it for $100? I see that it’s not $250 on Amazon!! Ridiculous!! I have NordicTrack adjustable dumbells. Not my favorite but they do the job. Same I got them for $300 before Covid now I see them for $600-1000. I recently bought 2 adjustable plastic kettlebells on eBay. Surprised with how good the quality is. I bought 2lbs-10lbs neoprene dumbells for my wife as she uses them to workout and also with her Peleton (bought last year). I had 2 barbells from years ago. The post landmine I got on Amazon recently. Paid $48 yes there are cheaper ones, no I’m not paying Rogue prices even tho it’s $25 more but there shipping is ridic! Mine takes both size bars 1”, and 2”. I have around 350lbs of weight plates now a mixed between standard and 2”. Which is plenty for me for awhile. I had an injury so I took some time off from training. All the cable attachments I bought online. That local sports store sells cable machine attachments for $5 a piece!! So I picked up a long lat SS bar for doing back and also picked up V lat attachment for $5 as well. Mats I got from tractor store. As they are horse stall mats. I have pics but I can’t attach, I’m actually surprised how little I’ve spent so far considering all the price gouging. But I do shop smart, and mostly used when I can. Weights all needed to be cleaned which I did. But I will repaint soon. That sports store sells a lot of good used items. All the weight plate I bought were 2” and they were all machined not cast iron. Although nothing wrong with cast but if same price I take milled ones. Sorry this is so long. I’m sure I’m forgetting some other equip. Also today my friend gifted me his old pull-up rack as I helped him pick up and deliver his used squat cage rack and he didn’t have the space to keep both. So that was free! I’m gonna add a Titan Fitness squat cage rack when they are in stock. I have a feeling there will be a lot of used equipment flooding the market as soon as things go back to normal. When that happens prices should drop and I will pick up more plates. Oh I forgot I picked up a pretty used up preacher curl bench. But no rips or holes in the seat or upholstery just scratches and some surface rust on the metal. Eventually I will get everything powder coated one color. I plan to buy the Titan Fitness preacher curl next to replace this one I bought for $80! My wife also wants a back extension bench so that I may buy new as well but we shall see.
@@sheldonm3535 thanks for the reply! I appreciate all the info. I guess I should wait for prices to drop. Hopefully everything goes back to normal soon.
That's a great setup to get started. A rack can be very beneficial though and add an extra level of safety, especially when training from home having the safeties for bigger lifts
Squat rack, bench, bar, iron plates (skip the bumpers). That's essential. Add a landmine and you can do almost anything. Add a simple pulley system from Home Depot if you want. After that you're just having fun. Which is great.
For sure. You certainly don't need a full set of bumper plates, but for longevity of floors and weights themselves, at least a single pair to cushion landing of the bar would be a smart investment.
Sounds like a great deal. However remember, they're only worth as much as you get out of em, so make sure you're following the 100s of free workouts on the channel here and putting all that to work! haha
I have a home gym and this video is so true. I wish I had known this when I first started, but I learned along the way and have a killer set up based on these essentials.
I would love to one day have a home gym, but currently I live in a London flat (apartment) with minimal space. Before the pandemic I had some old adjustable dumbbells that go up to about 10 kg (22 lbs) and then I bought a 20kg kettlebell from Amazon - and you know what... it isn’t much but you can get a decent workout from this. I do lots of super sets as well as lots of squeezing at the contraction - I feel like I am making some gains with minimal and relatively light equipment.
I’ve invested in exactly these, can’t wait too get in the best shape could you do some videos on workouts with all the equipment maybe a 6 day schedule!
Glad you enjoyed the video Doltzy. We've got some great Garage Gym workouts and freeweight workouts on the channel that make use of this equipment you can check out!
Awesome stuff. Cables are definitely great to have and will add a lot more versatility and variety for your workouts, but not a necessity. The great thing about home gyms is you can customize them to your training needs and preferences.
My current set up is dumbbells , power rack with pull-up bar. Lat pull down with leg extension and preacher curl . I also have an extra bench press rack and an easy curl bar. Finally I have an Olympic weight set , and for the floor 4 pieces of plywood
I live in India, where houses are much smaller than the average US house. But pairs of kettlebells. medicine ball, skipping rope and a pull up bar has helped me well in this lockdown
My street workout backpack: gloves (thin cheapo breathable "mechanics gloves" with rubberized palm and fingers), straps, gymnastic rings with adjustable straps (wrapped with hockey grip tape), exercise bands (a few), about 1ft 1" round piece of wood (to use with exercise bands), frisbee, tennis ball (for bouncing off street and walls), skipping rope, adjustable straps (a few). Must have for me are only straps and a couple of exercise bands. I might put on my weight vest as well.
That's a great idea. Thanks for watching. We do have nearly 200 free workouts already on the channel you can check out for great ideas on how to put this equipment to work. So give that a watch in the meantime.
A power tower (pull-up/chin-up, dip, sit-up, and push-up), a jump rope, and a heavy sandbag is all you really need if you want to get fit, and if you really don't even need this if you just rather do calisthenics. Boxers also get in excellent shape by shadowboxing, jumping rope, hitting a heavy bag, running, and using a medicine ball.
Squats, weighed dips, weighed pull-ups, deadlifts. Power rack with pull-up and dip attachments, quality power barbell, quality plates, dip/pull-up belt, 3/4" horse stall mats, cardio machine of some type.
Awesome! If you have those options, alternate each time you perform the movement. Nice thing about cables, especially when you're in the gym, you can change the weight on the fly. Whereas with dumbbells, others may be using them too.
Good video. For now I’ll skip the kettle bells and med balls. If fact I’ll go as far as to say “no dumbbells for my home gym. I’ll go with a functional trainer to go with my power rack. All the other knickknacks I’ll use at the gym every now and then
Dumbbells are probably the most versatile pieces of home gym equipment, and definitely recommended. But to each their own. All about finding what works best for you and will allow you to stick with a consistent routine.
You can find all of these equipment pieces from online retailers, or as we mention, searching online marketplaces in your local area like craigslist, kijiji or facebook. Just depends on what you want and what's in your area.
everything is still out of stock. Maybe by January things will be restocked. 2020 was a bad year for exercise equipment. If you buy used you will pay twice the price by people trying to rip you off.
Great video. IMHO you can go even more essential by skipping the medicine ball and the assoult air bike. Instead I would've put a couple of parallettes for dips in the list, and for cardio, good old fashioned jog or sprints😉.
Definitely. The beauty about building your home/garage gym is you can make it your own, start with the basics and gradually build on from there if you feel like it
We've got an amazing weekly series of videos on the channel "Faster Fat Loss" these workouts are the best for metabolic conditioning and high intensity training to improve cardiovascular endurance as well as lean muscle mass and training performance.
What would anyone recommend for someone that lives in a small bachelor's apartment AKA everything's in one small room and then not enough room for a squat rack?
Do cable machines last? I always see them out of order in gyms and I’m unsure if it’s a result of people messing it up or it being a piece of equipment that requires a ton of maintenance.
Luis Chauca i bought a commercial one for around 1500$. It’s having 3y. of warranty for home usage. If you really take care of it the only thing that really can break after some time is the cables or pulley wheels other than that this thing is solid. The thing with cable machines in the gym is that they get probably used 100x more than in your home setting so the listed piece normally have half of the lifetime, that’s why they often under maintenance or out of order in gyms.
I’m trying to build my own home gym at the moment and i’m also currently looking for a squatrack/powerrack but they are so exspensive at the moment... Do you guys think i should wait with buying one when the prices drop a bit?
We can't say if squat rack prices are are going up or down anytime soon - but we can say if you want one, find a way to get one! Shop around. Buy used. Or, run some math and try think of a few things you'd be willing to sacrifice for a few months if it means getting your own squat rack! Keep us posted - we'll be looking forward to seeing a pic of that beauty in your garage/basement/bedroom/kitchen.
Bands and foam rollers are great additional tools to have on hand, yes. However this was focused more towards the essentials for building muscle and burning fat in your home or garage gym. Mobility and recovery tools are a bit different. It could also be argued as to how essential these really are, because they've only really become popularized in the last decade or so, and many managed to still achieve great mobility, flexibility and recovery without these in the past. We tried to keep this video as minimal as possible, but band and foam rollers certainly wouldn't hurt to add in. Thanks for watching Rajput
I'm just about to buy my own home gym. I've built a squat/ bench stand and a bench from wood, I hope it holds up. I'm gonna buy a 6ft olympic barbell, plates, 2 dumbell bars, rubber mats and an ab wheel. I can do pullups in my backyard. I feel like I'm only gonna miss leg press and incline/decline bench and maybe cables for triceps but I think I'll manage just fine.
As we mention in the video brother, best to spend the money on a quality squat rack with strong J-Clips - When you're counting on it to hold hundreds of pounds above your back or chest, not something you want to risk skimping on. But definitely can get a ton of great workouts in with some free weights without the machines. Just have to be a bit more creative with exercise selection for variety while focusing most of your energy and effort on the fundamental movements.
Blue Star Nutraceuticals Mine is more solid than the cheapest available on the market I figure. If I feel like it's shaky, I'll buy the real deal. It was fun building it anyways and pretty cheap.
As long as it is built right and it's sturdy and solid, wood will work just fine. Remember, 4x4s and 2x4s are used to support houses. If you build it right it'll support your lifts.
Rogue & Bells of Steel have lovely super yokes with most of the attachments PLUS THE SLED OPTION 😍 Good video gents, but don't forget free field stones lol STRONGMAN STYLE!
Haha thanks for watching James and we tried to keep it as basic as possible. Not everyone wants to lug heavy stones around haha. Appreciate the support!
@@BlueStarNutraceuticals Rogue hasn't price gouged during COVID. They've run out, and you might have to wait for them to restock, but they aren't taking advantage of the situation like other companies have been. I'll pay a bit more for Rogue, and I KNOW I'm getting top quality from a company that didn't take advantage of people. Oh, and I bought an ECHO bike a couple of years ago when they first came out. I love to hate that thing, and it's built like a tank.

There's always the possibility for a killer street workout ie. calisthenics. Many calisthenics dudes look insane! Plus walking and short "all out" sprints (HIIT) and all kinds of jumping. Parkour. Look at Frank Medrano and Simonster! Barstarzz.
Big money, dream gym. Good luck finding that high dollar equipment anytime soon. I had to go to a scrap yard and luckily found enough rusty plates, a bar and a couple dumbbells to try to stay in shape during lockdown.

How about a workout in this new garage gym. I've almost got my garage gym done and I like it cause it's just me ,my music, and my weights. Layers and keep the workouts coming.
How do u find the powerblock adjustable weights? I have all of the other "top 5". No dumbells or kettlebells yet. Drawn to the space saving benefits of the power block dbs bit just wondering are u limited with ROM?
On a budget and in to strongman? A yoke can replace rack. Besides yoke carry use it as rack for squats, bench press, etc. can also use as sled and other things such as zercher carry, etc. sand bags instead of medicine balls.

Awesome Ari. Definitely a diverse set of equipment you can make use of to stay in shape anywhere.
thank you much !
Happy to help out!
This is an excellent, to the point and candid video. Thank you.
Appreciate the feedback Jimmy, glad you enjoyed the video!
awesome video thanks a ton!
could you do a video on some basic exercises with few of them?
That's a great idea. Thanks for watching. We do have nearly 200 free workouts already on the channel you can check out for great ideas on how to put this equipment to work. So give that a watch in the meantime.
Resistant bands are great as well and very cheap
Definitely. Super versatile for training from home. We've got a solid 3-day resistance band training routine on the channel as well 😀💪
8th essential - solid programming 😎Those garage door title effects were cool!
Absolutely - and thanks D G, appreciate the feedback, we work hard on these videos haha
Wow...you are a Superman!
Thanks for watching Jorge
A power tower (pull-up/chin-up, dip, sit-up, and push-up), a jump rope, and a heavy sandbag is all you really need if you want to get fit, and if you really don't even need this if you just rather do calisthenics. Boxers also get in excellent shape by shadowboxing, jumping rope, hitting a heavy bag, running, and using a medicine ball.
All depends on your training preferences. The great thing about having a home setup is you can customize as much as you want
Squats, weighed dips, weighed pull-ups, deadlifts. Power rack with pull-up and dip attachments, quality power barbell, quality plates, dip/pull-up belt, 3/4" horse stall mats, cardio machine of some type.
You got it Joe! That'll set you up with a solid home gym.
Great tips dude, keep motivating us.
Thanks! Will do!
Awesome vid, thanks man
You bet frosty. Glad you liked this one, hope it helped out with your home gym planning
Wow! Straight to the point. Amazing presentation.
All the way from Kenya!
Appreciate you watching and glad you enjoyed the video!
I loved using the ski erg at the gym, it’s hard but fun
Definitely
Straight to the point 👍👍👍
absolutely!
Thank you for guidance🤝
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
What will be more useful alongside barbell - Dumbbells or cables for movements like flys and rowing?
Good question! Ultimately.... preference or simply what you have available at that time.
@@BlueStarNutraceuticals I have a option of adding anyone dumbbell or cables set-up in my home gym particularly for flies and rows.
Awesome! If you have those options, alternate each time you perform the movement. Nice thing about cables, especially when you're in the gym, you can change the weight on the fly. Whereas with dumbbells, others may be using them too.
@@BlueStarNutraceuticals thank you
Really helpful video thank you 💯🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful! Looking to build your own home gym, or just adding to the setup you've already got?
Agreed on all but, what was that overhead ladder?
Not sure what you're referring to by an overhead ladder?
My gurage gym started with a yoga mat and a 55lb bag of dog food. Now I got my first real piece of equipment to work with, my sand bag.
Start small and gradually build as needed
Sandbags are a great DIY option, you are right!
Loved it bro like your voice and content
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching Prem
Hey there just wondering where do you get the equipment in this video?
You can find all of these equipment pieces from online retailers, or as we mention, searching online marketplaces in your local area like craigslist, kijiji or facebook. Just depends on what you want and what's in your area.
everything is still out of stock. Maybe by January things will be restocked. 2020 was a bad year for exercise equipment. If you buy used you will pay twice the price by people trying to rip you off.
Solid vid👊 loved that u put the Rogue name plate at the bottom for more stability 👍
Thanks for watching! And yeah, it definitely made a big difference.
Awesome video!
Thanks for watching Angel, Glad you enjoyed it
Great video. IMHO you can go even more essential by skipping the medicine ball and the assoult air bike. Instead I would've put a couple of parallettes for dips in the list, and for cardio, good old fashioned jog or sprints😉.
Good tip!
thanks
Our pleasure!
Any recommendations for good gym mats for basement floor?
Generally thick stall mats work well and are more affordable than traditional rubber flooring.
Gym rings and a good assortment of exercise bands.
Great additions
Can the squat rack and barbell and bench and plates and dumbbels be a good start that's what I've gotten so far
Definitely. The beauty about building your home/garage gym is you can make it your own, start with the basics and gradually build on from there if you feel like it
Matt, can you share your height and current weight. I’m curious if my body type could be built similar to you.
Hey Deo! Don't hesitate to reach out to Matt directly at instagram.com/titan__training/ :)
Woof! This guy is amazing
💪💪
I’m currently trying to get into shape to get into the Royal Navy, what’s the best high intensity cardio workout?
We've got an amazing weekly series of videos on the channel "Faster Fat Loss" these workouts are the best for metabolic conditioning and high intensity training to improve cardiovascular endurance as well as lean muscle mass and training performance.
Blue Star Nutraceuticals thank you
How do I know if I'm quad or glute dominant?
Hey Craig, when you are performing a back squat, are you feeling the stressors 'more' in the glutes or the quads - or about equal?
Impressive ! keep up
Thanks, will do!
What would anyone recommend for someone that lives in a small bachelor's apartment AKA everything's in one small room and then not enough room for a squat rack?
Adjustable dumbbells and a bench would be a great start. Resistance bands are always good as well for limited space
Big fan of the channel
Awesome to hear Umar! Thanks for watching!
My top 7:
Rack
Barbell
Bench
Plates
Cable Machine/Functional trainer
Power locks
Rubber Stall Mats
3-4K total! But worth of investment!
Solid setup Mario. Thanks for watching
Very nice video
Happy it could help out!
thank you
You're welcome
Rep Fitness power rack. You're welcome.
Can somebody send me the link to that squat rack, I'm needing a strong one or can you reccomend a different one?
You can find it right on the Rogue website. 👍
@Blue Star Nutraceuticals Do they deliver to the uk
@@haz5526 yes we do
Useful video, thank you. Just an observation: HIIT exercises are not a substitute of low intensity cardio.
Thanks for watching Julio.
What about resistance bands and foam rollers. They are a must for warm up and mobility
@@BlueStarNutraceuticals you're welcome
I hope you good health insurance. You re going to need it..
This was a not bull shit video, straight to the point 💪
That's the way we like it!
When he said rogue and eleiko have affordable options I laughed a little
Affordable for top quality. Not cheap. There's a difference
What about a power rack and smith machine? Have a chance to purchase the IM2000 from Ironmaster. I do like the Rogue RM4 however.
Whatever works best for you, your goals, the space you have and of course your budget haha
Thanks bro❤
Welcome 😊
Funny, I was thinking on getting an elliptical for cardio, dunno if I can find an air assault bike here in town, otherwise I'll have to keep learning how to jump rope.
Jump rope workouts are beastly! You'll love this - ruclips.net/video/lDkXGw9iO-o/видео.html
Here's my top 8 essentials:
Pull up bar
Weighted vest
Walker
Massive tire(s)
Sledgehammer(s)
Olympic rings
Heavy bag + gloves
Battle rope
DIY TRX system
Awesome setup!
seems like i have done my research, according to this channel.
Rogue squat rack, check
Concept2 rower, check
Dumbbells, check
Skipping rope, check
Barbell with bearings and bumper plates, check
Rogue Kettlebells, check
Rogue Adjustable Bench 3.0, check
Now i just need to be better at crossfit exercises..
Sounds like you've got an awesome setup! We've got hundreds of workouts on the channel to help you make use of it haha.
@@BlueStarNutraceuticals Yeah its a hell of a homegym setup especailly since it my first one :-D But i really love it, i just started out building it mid december, so its been a heavy investment, but for sure is worth it.
Instead of adjustable dumbbells or a set of bells I got my self a pair of Olympic dumbbells bars. Then when I purchased weight plates I made sure I had a good few 5kg plates. Then I use them to make up my bells
That's another great option!
There's always the possibility for a killer street workout ie. calisthenics. Many calisthenics dudes look insane! Plus walking and short "all out" sprints (HIIT) and all kinds of jumping. Parkour. Look at Frank Medrano and Simonster! Barstarzz.
Agreed, you can get some great conditioning workouts in with bodyweight and minimal equipment.
I think a better option for a cardio piece is a punching bag cause it relieves stress and is a good workout
Whatever works best for you brother! Heavy bags are a great option. Thanks for watching.
Big money, dream gym. Good luck finding that high dollar equipment anytime soon. I had to go to a scrap yard and luckily found enough rusty plates, a bar and a couple dumbbells to try to stay in shape during lockdown.
Most of these items can still be ordered online, even during this pandemic situation, but if you're short on equipment, we have a complete playlist of 40+ No Gym Needed workouts on the channel to help you get in and stay in peak shape during the current home isolation situation.
How about a workout in this new garage gym. I've almost got my garage gym done and I like it cause it's just me ,my music, and my weights. Layers and keep the workouts coming.
Stay tuned on the channel brother! We've got some great stuff on the way ;)
Rogue is almost the top but I have a Powertec Power rack and it is really good
Yeah Powertec and a lot of other brands have some good quality stuff to outfit your home gym
Thank you for the energetic intro, I am going to buy Air BIke right now
Thanks for watching Dipak!
How do u find the powerblock adjustable weights? I have all of the other "top 5". No dumbells or kettlebells yet. Drawn to the space saving benefits of the power block dbs bit just wondering are u limited with ROM?
Adjustable dumbbells are very similar to regular dumbbells for range of motion.
On a budget and in to strongman? A yoke can replace rack. Besides yoke carry use it as rack for squats, bench press, etc. can also use as sled and other things such as zercher carry, etc.
sand bags instead of medicine balls.
Thanks for sharing! 👌
Definitely get a jump rope, it is the single most convenient workout equipment you could buy
