How to Build a Guitar Stand - That Holds 10 Guitars

  • My brother asked me to make a guitar stand for all 10 of his guitars. It holds 8 electric guitars and 2 acoustic guitars. It is constructed of 3/4 oak veneer plywood that has been edge banded and stained with chestnut colouring. It uses pocket hole construction and 1/4 sticky back foam for the bumper padding.

    Really didn't want to route out the space for the guitar necks. Using the drill then cutting the out the neck entrance - Brilliant. Thanks for the tip.

    Thanks for the free plans. I just finished building my rack using your measurements. The only tools I used was a circular saw, drill press, jigsaw, and a drill. I used cedar fence pickets, so it's not exactly like what you built. Hopefully with some stain and poly it will hold up for a long time.

    • @jasonfick4506
      @jasonfick4506 5 лет назад +1

      Just to throw this out here, I used EVA/craft foam for the padding. It was really easy to work with and hopefully it holds up.

    Excellent!!!! Nice looking stand but I'm afraid I'll have to have 2 of them. Glad to see you put the foam protection over the wood. Can't tell you how many clowns 🤡 I've seen who skip that part or do a shoddy job and it damages the finish.

    • @AttillaDeHunt
      @AttillaDeHunt 6 лет назад +2

      Barney Fike Might have done it a bit better using felt/cotton batting for the application instead of foam as, foam tends to break down over time,and takes a toll on the finish where contact in any direct sense is made. Felt or cloth batting may rub a bit over time, but rarely eats the finish off the body or neck.

    Should maybe point out that the bulk of rubber foams will leach out chemicals over time which will damage a nitrocellulose finish, so if you have any guitars finished that way, you're going to need to put something over the rubber to stop that.
