In reality, the whole boat scene, I think Matthews was tipping Dexter off, laying out all the evidence LaGuerta had, and giving Dexter a chance to clean it up, which he did and Matthews was quick to accept it. The whole restaurant scene was just to gain Maria's trust. He also used the situation as leverage to be reinstated and get his 40 year pension, but I think he was also protecting Dexter. This is neither here nor there, but have you heard of a show called From on MGN? It seems like something that you'd be into. It's about a group of people trapped in a small town. Every time they try to leave, they just end up circling right back around into the town. At night, they have to stay inside, lock their doors, and place mysterious talismans by the doors in order to keep human-looking monsters from entering and viciously killing them. Many characters strive to uncover the mystery of the town. Chief among them being the sheriff of the town, Boyd Stevens. But as Boyd and the others get closer to discovering the town's secrets, the town starts to retaliate in more terrifying ways. The third season just ended, and it's already been confirmed that there will be a fourth season. It really seems like a show that would be right up your alley.
My theory after episode 1 was actually that Dexter is misremembering because he’s on his deathbed. With some the info he remembers being key to resurrection. It actually makes sense, and I hope you're right about this-that the writers will take this direction. In the original series, when we see Dexter "interacting" with Harry, Dexter perceives Harry as someone who was somewhat supportive of his actions. Of course, not entirely supportive, but you get the idea. The flashbacks further solidify Harry as a figure who, in a casual way, chose to channel his son's urges through the Code. However, this version of Harry is likely an idealized version that Dexter created, or perhaps one he presented to us. In season 2, we learn that Harry was horrified by what Dexter did, to the point of taking his own life. Later seasons also offer more clues about Dexter being an unreliable narrator, especially when Harry appears in Dr. Vogel's tapes as someone disturbed, conflicted, and guilty over his actions. This contradicts the image Dexter presented to us-and to some extent, the one Dexter presented to himself. It's actually quite common for individuals on the dark triad spectrum to engage in confabulation (look it up, it's more common in NPD patients than it is in sociopaths, however, Dexter displays traits that are commonly associated with narcissism, such as need for approval and grandiosity), so it wouldn't be necessarily surprising.
Harry was always a character that bothered me in the original series. The first season and a half, you get the idea that he was just a really bad father that taught his son how to kill but in season two, it's revealed that he offed himself after walking in on Dexter showing that he obviously either 1) wasn't as secure in his belief that killing was the right move, or 2) just simply didn't realize as gross as it is. Then in season eight you find out the code wasn't his idea, it was actually Vogel's who is a much more despicable figure that deeply misunderstood Dexter's psychological state. I REALLY like the choice to make Dexter the one pursuing killing and Harry only drugged-up, absent-mindedly and vaguely telling him to "stop her". I think the direction the show is going is to significantly humanize Harry and make him more of a product of a murderous son and manipulative therapist makes the suicide feel more like a natural end to Harry's mental state slipping rather than just the shocking twist they probably thought it was in season two. I'm really interested to see what they do with Harry and Christian Slater is an amazing actor. Also the reveal that he had a previous son who died because Harry wasn't watching him will hopefully relate to a flashback of Harry finding Dexter and Brian in the shipping container. He sees his son in baby Dexter but he sees a broken, angry kid in Brian. It's probably just wishful thinking but I would love to see a younger Brian track down Harry, desperate to see his brother and have a father figure but Harry sees too much of what he already sees in Dexter and pushes him away. That could also sort of work for why Brian hates Dexter's foster family so much.
I think it was bad, but not terrible. It's fun to watch as a fan of Dexter, but this doesn't make any sense if you're unfamiliar with Dexter. That police chief can't act. I thought Deb got better, but maybe her dialog could be better. I'd also like to hear from the showrunners. I knew there'd be inconsistencies, but is it because they wanted Dexter to be an unreliable narrator, or did they just not care?
May just be another lazy random retcon. They did the same thing in New Blood, changing out m99 with whatever they replaced it with that I can't remember at the moment

It's a pretty good idea. They get some room to be creative but also not ruin the original-as long as they're not too creative and do not stray too far from the original.
My issue with this is that it is an after the fact retcon. If you're going to do an unreliable narrator story, it has to be done with the idea of the narrator being unreliable going in. The fact of the matter is that this story was told years ago and that they are now going in and changing it. I understand that many people might not have a problem with this practice, but I, however, do. Not only do I feel like a prequel to Dexter is wholly unnecessary, but now it's actively tempering with aspects that I loved from the first season. This might just come from me being soured over my disappointment of Dexter New Blood, but I am not at all on board with them continuing the story in both the prequel series as well as the upcoming Dexter Resurrection series. It wasn't a great season, but as far as I'm concerned, the series ended with season 5.
Original Dexter hallucinates, Original Sin is how it actually went down. Either the writers are stupid, or they are implying that Dexter lied to himself and twisted the events to justify himself and his actions. Harry was never "ok" with Dexter doing what he does, they shown this in the original series as well as episode 1 of Original Sin. It's possible that Harry is never like "go kill this person" and it's always Dexter's idea and eventually Harry just cannot live with it anymore.
The new guy playing Dexter reminds me of Eric Stoltz. I don't recall young Dexter having a widows peak. Oh well I'm not going to watch these thrown together mini series because they can't figure out how to end Dexter for good. They are shamefully milking this series for no other reason other than _they can._
I mean the scene difference aren’t so bad. I feel like Original Sin is an accurate portrayal of what actually happened. And the flashbacks in the originally show are just how Dexter remembers it which nobody realistically remembers every detail so I’m fine with it on that part.
Trash: Bits and pieces of unnecessary things that didn't need to be. Very predictable and familiar and nothing new or just surprising or something that caught my eye and cheesy poor acting and I don't understand how people see light in this series. I don't think this has anything with it being a "unreliable narrator" it's a matter of two shows from over a decade a part, the story is the same but the wording is different but if there is serious changes to the actua story itself then please feel free to correct me on this

They did the same thing in New Blood, changing out m99 with whatever they replaced it with that I can't remember at the moment
wasn’t a retcon , he changed sedatives because he couldn’t get m99 in iron lake
@@moonrunnin-_ Correct, I think they mean the m99 the Bay Harbour Butcher used in the past was retconned & changed to what was used in New Blood so there was a connection for Angie to draw to Dexters present day kill.
Could be wrong though
@@etgamer16 Exactly, part of why some consider New Blood's ending poor is this contrived evidence.
Actually the show runner said it's different because the original show flashbacks are how dexter remembers it. While original sin is how events actually played out. I'm not sure why the person who made this video didn't do any research before making it 🤷♀️ probably because most people are gullible.
@@Vale0x3 I feel like it should be the other way around OG show is Real & OSin is Unreliable Narrator Dexter.
But maybe that’s just me cause I far prefer the OG “nurse trying to give the meds to Harry” scene to OSin
It's a pretty good idea. They get some room to be creative but also not ruin the original-as long as they're not too creative and do not stray too far from the original.
Harry is canonically Mr Robot
I thought it was great. I love being back in that universe. And I think they did fantastic on young masuka!
To believe Dexter's survival think of Mary shooting Sherlock (Sherlock 3x3 His Last Vow). Sherlock survived.
Even Michael C Hall himself said Dexter is an unreliable narrator, back in 2012. On Conan
It's possible that Harry is never like "go kill this person" and it's always Dexter's idea and eventually Harry just cannot live with it anymore.
im a creep
im a weirdoooo
THE HELL AM I DOING HEREEE
Brilliant! I look forwatd to a multiseason arc!
The new guy playing Dexter reminds me of Eric Stoltz. I don't recall young Dexter having a widows peak. Oh well I'm not going to watch these thrown together mini series because they can't figure out how to end Dexter for good. They are shamefully milking this series for no other reason other than _they can._
How did you get the clips from your vid?
I mean the scene difference aren’t so bad. I feel like Original Sin is an accurate portrayal of what actually happened. And the flashbacks in the originally show are just how Dexter remembers it which nobody realistically remembers every detail so I’m fine with it on that part.
To make myself feel better about the shit thats off i just think dexter might have a bit of fog in memory to some of his first kills.
It might happen cuz you know people can remember things differently
this whole video is a run on sentence
It's not that bad. I just put it down to misremembering.
Once again its morphine with small amounts of nitrate for pain....they tryed to make more dilect
If you speed the video up to 1.5 it’s much better, just a heads up.
When your attention span is fried
@ dude he talks so freaking slowww lmao
Why does this sound like AI?
The weird pauses are why
I can't believe Dexter was an unreliable narrator
Trash:
Bits and pieces of unnecessary things that didn't need to be.
Very predictable and familiar and nothing new or just surprising or something that caught my eye and cheesy poor acting and I don't understand how people see light in this series. It's not gonna be any different in the next episode just a money flick.
Cope maybe hoping it’s not gonna go 3 for 3 top tier shit ending😂
I honestly kind of figured as much from the first episode though. It isn’t rocket science
its called retcon
I don't think this has anything with it being a "unreliable narrator" it's a matter of two shows from over a decade a part, the story is the same but the wording is different but if there is serious changes to the actua story itself then please feel free to correct me on this
isn't this just retconning, though?
I learned the host of this show is Jewish based on how he pronounced “Harrison” 😂
More so the writers are lazy.
Original sin is cringe. Weird how i liked deb at least she was a little attractive but in the og i couldn't stand her. The og younger dexter actors did way better than this and new mazuka is so terrible
Ngl this show lowkey falling off I dislike how they made Deb act and I can’t really get behind this Dexter actor lowkey trash ahh show
If you didn’t like Dexter original sin then you’re just a hater or have awful taste.
This is such a lazy excuse lol. People are allowed to have differing opinions and just because they do that dosnt mean that those people have bad taste and are haters.
@ poor taste is all good
You’re allowed to have it
IDK what youre talking about, i watched all 4 seasons of Dexter and don't remember any of this nonsense!
Huh
Haha I see what you did there
Phirst
More like thirst amirite?
