StrongArmSport Buffalo Bar - Better Than a Duffalo?

- In today's video I discuss the Buffalo bar from StrongArmSport. I have several of their bars and think they're a great value. That being said, I've often times found the more cost efficient buffalo bars aren't worth it and you're often better off paying more. How does this bar stack up against the field and in particular the King of the Hill, Kabuki Strength Duffalo Bar?

I went back and forth on this bar and the Fringe Longhorn. Ended up going with the Longhorn, for the wider center knurl and 32mm thickness. Awesome how companies are bringing bars out now that aren't so damn expensive!
Right on!
Great review dude. I just picked one of these up a couple months ago. I’ve been really enjoying it. Thanks for turning me on to this company, they make great bars for the money!
Always good to hear!
I've got an old book here from 1955 - The Rader Master Bodybuilding and Weight Gain system : Peary Rader. Inside they've got photos of a man doing exercises with a Buffalo Bar. They call it a cambered bar " whose bend prevents any rolling of the bar on the neck as you perform the squat exercise." Looks like this bar has been around for a while.
Def has been, just more refined!
just to update. i just bought the bar today, and they have re-engineered it to a 32 mm diameter. looking forward to getting the bar. thanks for all the great videos and reviews
Let me know what you think!
Hmm. Ironically no one ever mentions the original Buffalo Bar by Ironmind. It's been completely eclipsed.
Yeah the ironmind one looks almost straight in comparison!
"First thing I like about it is the length of the shaft" That's what she hopefully said.
hey now
I could use this bar to make my deadlifts easier !
lol
Awesome review bro. Loving the stuff that StrongArm has been putting out lately. I'm gonna have to pull the trigger on some of their products in the near future.
Some good value!
Great review as always! Really digging the clear closeups of the knurling.
Just wish the lighting was a bit better in the garage for it!
@@BasementBrandon Might improve it, might not. I think it looks plenty good as is.
Thank you for the in-depth review. I was about to pull the trigger and order a Duffalo bar (which is 12 to 18 weeks out). After watching this I am saving money and getting my bar much sooner.
Hope you enjoy it!
I bought this bar because I get bad bicep tendonitis from low bar squatting & I didn't want to break the bank on a duffalo bar. The reason I ended up selling this bar is because it feels for me like the weight is more in front of me than it is with a straight bar. Which makes sense because of the bend. What I'm wondering is does the duffalo do the same thing?
Yep! all bent bars will end up basically wrapping around you.
just ordered mine today and itll be here on friday
charged me 30bucks shipping to hawaii
although when i got the dl bar my shipping was 70 bucks.
Fingers crossed the packaging makes it!
I have the strongarm buffalo bar and the "power" rings measure 39". I emailed strongarm but got no response. That was last year sometime when I bought it.
Hmmm I wonder what mine are. Tough to tell with the bend.
@@BasementBrandon I used a 4 foot straight edge and a square to measure it, if i measured with the bend it would be slightly more.
so im going to get a rack with a bar and plates, dumbbells, and an adjustable bench in my home gym. do you think this is enough equipment to get a full, proper workout ?
Most definitely
How does this compare to the Duffalo bar? Like with the bend, camber, etc? And does it have any issues tilting over like the yukon?
This V1 version compares very well (for the price). The only downside is that it was 29mm. They came out with a 32mm bar but it's more like the yukon and has passive knurling.
You mention at the end that you used the safety squat bar more than the duffalo bar. Why?
More versatile IMO. Can do a bunch more exercises.
Any idea on what the actual camber of this bar is? The Duffalo and fringe/Vulcan are all 4”. Thanks!
I'm not sure offhand but I'd say similar
Noticed you got the name plate on your monster rack. Any reason for this? Also, does going with the gusset in back allow for more attachments?
Just like the look of it. Serves no function. You could mount somethings on it still, but lose the full functionality vs a standard gusset.
Are there any significant differences in the weights you're using? (Buffalo bar vs straight bar)
buffalo bar is harder IMO as it puts the weights more forward.
Do you prefer this bar over the titan fitness Yukon bar? If so, why?
This one that I had was far superior, better bend, better knurling, finish, etc. Can't speak to the newer version that has since released however.
What happens when you use the rollers but have the bend down instead of up?
It's a big pain in the ass as you load the bar b/c the bar isn't easy rotated that way.
A very well-thought-out and delivered review on this bar-type. I kindly suggest to you that the two intrusions of profanity mar your effort. Many people do not care, but I do. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback
Agree...your reviews are too good to be even a little crass...
Are you ordering the bar again with the improvements they have made?
Not sure yet!
@@BasementBrandon seems they took all your critiques and improved upon them!
@@redislandfitness Maybe I'll have to grab one, I know they're talking about coming out with one that's zinc plated to keep the rust down.
Thanks..
Welcome
What's the most you've loaded on it so far?
500lbs.
Used the roller cut once with it and got hit right in the face xd
Stay safe OP!
You watch the Westside vs the world doc yet?
Few months ago! I thought it was good, but wish they went more into the stories of the people who train/trained there.
I would assume one should never overhead press with this bar?
Some do!
Why not? I actually really like it for OHP.
Can you do a video on going bald
Probably!
Wish i knew about this bar before I bought the ny bb buffalo bar lol not great
Drive down to RI and give it a test run :)
My duffalo now 👏👏 no regrets
Haha true true.
That’s what she said last night 😂
hey now
You should always stay in a nice, cool basement!:)
In one as I reply to this comment, just no gym in this one :)
@@BasementBrandon - aha, but a basement is always a basement:)
Kenneth Stålhammar Your first comment sounds like something Buffalo Bill would say (Tip: Buffalo Bill is the serial killer from the movie Silence of the Lambs).
@@hamadajsan - I´ve seen the movie but it was long ago:) Buffalo Bill- Buffalo Bar. What a coincidence! Thanks for your reply!
Great review, you might consider turning your cap back around....lol

Too hot
Mine is 32mm, I measured.
I've Also got a Rogue R&B Bar , it's 29.5mm
Did you get the V1 or the updated version? the updated one is def 32mm
You need a cambered bar in your life - I'm squatting almost exclusively with mine.
Haha one day i'm sure!
Brandon Campbell Diamond ATX is super cheap. Modified axle bar. I didn't expect it to be this friendly
I LOVE this bar. When I hit a 500# squat it will be because of the additional training frequency this bar has allowed me. Knurling is great. Bend is spot on. Length is perfect. I don't notice that it feels any different than a straight bar except it is impossible for the bar to creep up at the bottom and it has a lot of surface contact with your back and shoulders. Honestly feel like it is superior to the straight bar squat.
appreciate the feedback!
Buffalo is a way better name, too.
Right on!
@@Pler1978 homie just has to try and put his name/brand on everything lol trying to get $$
Does squatting with this feel like the safety squat bar?
somewhat in terms of where the weight distribution is.
When you get your bare steel bars, do they ship coated in oil (presumably to prevent rust during storage and transit)? If so, what do you use to clean them before use?
Sometimes, but I just get a rag/towel and wipe them down.
Brandon Campbell Diamond Thanks Brandon. I tried that first, but perhaps I need better rags. I was reluctant to try any kind of solvent for fear of damaging the metal.
I live in an apartment and space is limited. Does anyone sell shorter versions of these bars?
Not in this style that I've seen. If the bar were shorter the bend would be significantly less.
How much bend in your shaft ? 😂
Just a lil goes a long way
Brandon , I have the Duffalo Bar and the Ironmind buffalo bar ... I purchased the buffalo bar first and liked it . Then purchased the duffalo bar and love it ... it’s my bar of choice for squats now far superior than the buffalo bar for me 👍🏻and my shoulder health ..
Brandon...looks like you're using flat sole shoes, If so what find are they and do you like them vs chucks/converse. Oly shoes don't work well for my build.
Thanks.
In this video they are the Reebok power shoe. I just got a pair of Bearfoot Athletics Ursas. Only wore a few times so far, but really dig them, I'd check them out!
I have a love/hate relationship with my strongarm sport buffalo bar
I hear you!
So, long, thin shaft that's unwrapped... got it...
Yeeep
29mm is standard powerlifting bar diameter, probably easier to manufacture for them.
Yeah could be!
Would you still recommend this bar at its current price point of $350
It depends, I'd still like to see them bump up the diameter of this bar to 32mm or so but at $350 you can also start looking at things like the Fringe bar, or even the newer Titan bar that doesn't suck as much as the V1 they did.
Glad you looked at it. I said on your Duffalo bar video that this bar is pretty good and a great price. I have this bar as well as a Titan V2 SSB.
Def some diamonds in the rough!
Would love to hear your review on the new Strongarm Buffalo Bar Brandon. They've increased the diameter like you asked them to but make it in black zinc.
So I bought one of the first run and it wasn't good. The knurling was passive and the bar was extremely rusted. They told me they got a bad batch in and they would replace it, but I ended up just getting a duffalo bar instead. It does look like they've fixed the knurling issue in the latest pics I've seen however.
@@BasementBrandon good to know the knurl has been addressed, thanks Brandon. From what Duffin has said, the major difference is they have 2 separate bends in the duffalo bar so it loads and sits better on your back. If that’s true, it’s worth the price difference
I wish we had those prices up here in Canada so I can have a lot more specialty bars. My buffalo shipped from strongarm was $430. Great review once again! Very informative.
ah that's kind of a bummer! You'd think being a canadian company it'd be cheaper than here in the US
Just got a price of $440.70 shipped
how long is the bar from collar to collar need to know if itll fit in my 50in wide rack
Not near it, but my Rogue rack is 49" wide and if you look at the pictures towards the end when I'm talking about J-cups you can see there's still plenty of space.
I previously had a bare steel curl bar that gave me a terrible smell on my hands every time I used it.
I had a similar issue with a black oxide curl bar
@@BasementBrandon Ok maybe it was black oxide, just assumed it was black metal
So picked up one of these Duffalo bars yesterday and was surprised it was 32mm even though the website still says 29mm, the sleeves now have medium sized ribs on them, reminds me of the Russian bar but with smaller ribs.
Have you used the strength shop bow bar?
I haven't. It's affordable, but it's also 35mm from what I recall. I think a thicker bar is better to an extent, but not that thick!
@@BasementBrandon thaks for the answer! I leave in Europe and can't afford the shipping cost. Do you know any other good option for Europe?
Hello... What is the major differences between using Buffalo bar or CB-4 vs a Safety Squat Bar? I am trying to decide between the Rep Safety Squat bar and CB-4. Thank you
Simple response would be hand position and padding!
Thank you for the reply... You are so reliable in replies and knowledgeable. Very appreciated!
Let me ask you this... For someone that is not injured but wants to avoid injuries (mainly to knees) and also wants to increase strength what style would you suggest, safety or buffalo? Thanks again...
@@HighSpinSwingSpeed I think knee health is going to be more dependent on technique and programming. If I had to pick between the two bars, it's still tough as both are great. I would lean more towards the SSB as I feel there's more you can do with it.
@@BasementBrandon Thank you... I just ordered the Rep SSB
Haha Canadian company cool 👌
Yessir!
If anyone wants a SS Yoke elite had a sale for $300. May still have some left
Yea, I've been getting emails about that sale everyday. But with shipping it's still $350. I'm waiting for the titan 1 to come back in stock.
@@David_Whitney true. But with Titan's highly documented and questionable QC and other issues I won't buy from them.
Wild Bill don’t forget code hotdog20 knocks it down to $280 if it’s still running.
@@bmstylee I bought like 5 or 6 things from them and never had any trouble until I got a circus DB a little over a month ago. It came without the hardware for 1 of the collars. It's a 1.9 sleeve so I don't have any I can use and u can't clean a circus DB without a collar. I contacted them about 5 times. Im still waiting on the replacement part.
@@bmstylee v2 SSB has not been subject to as many horror stories
Please Review the Rep Fitness Stainless steel power bar
It’s a good price for stainless but the knurling is sub par for a power bar IMO. I’ve heard the power speed bar has better knurling so hoping they update the SS bar with it.
@@BasementBrandon much appreciated, I'm in a garage gym that gets humid, was looking for a good option to keep down the corrosion of the bar. This video has me seriously considering a bare bar though
I have owned both... Brandon is right on... we sold the ss power bar and now use the power speed bar (with much more aggressive knurling) on bench days.
As an added comparison we also have the THOR OPB from Rogue and it gets used 3x as much by guests at our house. The rep power speed bar is more aggressive, but people just love Rogue. 😀💪🏼👍
