    Here is what I take away from this refreshingly factual presentation: Users not bound to pre-installed search engines and previously mandatory apps, when it comes to devices, operating systems or platforms provided by the big five . Data exchange between their apps and less wide-spread apps like Signal will be mandatory. Well done Euronews!

    It’s worth noting that Apple have allowed you to remove their default apps for years, and download a different browser too.
    I worry that new app stores on the market will affect the integrity of the Apps users can install.
    Apps are always checked for malicious code and malware before they reach the App Store. Now that could disappear if users start using alternative app stores.

    So interoperability between government registered platforms..
    Just internet is their dosent mean any one can create an application an interoperability happens...
    It is expected to be a registered business with accountable people
    And no money transactions is better..whatsapp is a messaging platform and its better to remain as it and not becomes a financial institution by allowing payments in whatsapp chat and interoperable payments as well via internet messaging platforms
    Payments can be done via registered financial institutions provided platforms

      Internet companies should NOT be allowed to devour other businesses because they have purchasing power and flexibility of incorporating many technologies in small window

      What does this have to do with the DMA?

      Government telling businesses what they can’t do. Government should have this level of authority over private business.

    Interoperability of messaging doesn't make sense. Some apps use E2E others don't. If those messages are also sent to apps that's don't use E2E, those messages won't be encrypted making the whole thing useless

      @danielc1175 2 года назад +16

      At least they will be able to send messages. The apps that use E2E are free to let the user know when E2E is not available. Moreover, if both apps support E2E, they should be able to use it. For instance, Apple intentionnally don't use modern technology (including E2E) when communicating with android device,

      Or it forces Telegram to adopt the Signal protocol

      It's a challenge, yes. The DMA clearly states that E2Ee must not be weakened by interoperability. The solution has not yet been determined, but it could either mean gatekeepers will have to provide an API that smaller players can implement or they have to implement an open standard for interoperability. The latter is the ideal case.
      Gatekeepers do not have to interoperate with each other if they don't want to (that is, neither side wants to).
      There was a 6 hour workshop earlier this year on instant messaging interoperability, and they had a lot of technical experts there, not just lawyers. The issue is being worked on.

      Telegram is probably not going to be a gatekeeper
