That was a very well conducted interview! Enjoyed it. Follow up article on the the 'technical differences' the EU competition commissioner sees versus the verdict of the courts (that she mentioned shall be appealed) would be an interesting read.
Its always a pleasure watching DW News English coverage.
Absolutely on Point- The Digital Stone Age. The wheel is turning. 🔥👏👏👏
It's time to face the real national security risk that the EU was too reluctant confront.....if Huawei or Tik Tok is a threat to the US, then what kind of threat FB, IT, Apple or Google is for the rest of the world? They should not be banned, but they must be critically monitored to serve and benefit from the people of the world.
This is not to protect consumer but to enforce the establishments' agenda on social media platforms. This is guised as a positive action but it will be used to limit people's freedom of expression and right to dissent.
That's RIGHT Ma'am..success must be coupled w/ responsibility..
Yeah and the online banks. They are able to change the labor market in any direction they want with just a simple email blast. They should mot be allowed to perform social engineering.
Big tech too rich, it's time to need to pay fair share...good job EU.
Doesn't matter how poor you make them, it will not make u rich.
@michi hofer They left for better pay.
Too late.
Thank youuuu
I love this woman! I wish we had someone with the level of integrity and influence she currently has to do the same here in the US. New technologies DO require regulation!
And this primarily protects the small person: the consumer, their privacy and most importantly, the data (which poses security risks, if not protected).
I am so happy to have discovered her work through this video! I'll be following her work closely for legal precedent ❤
97T57 the u.s. would never allow to come to fruition
She's a Danish Social Liberal. I know her
Social Liberals are the true centrists.
Theres only one reason these companies are so rich and that's a lack of legislation to hold them accountable. In very little time they have grown to exceed the sizes of all other corporations as well as take a share of the market outside China that should be regarded criminal.
“WITH SUCCESS YOU HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES “ yes it’s a holy law that will hv holy judgment
Jason Tempel wants his RUclips back !!!
You do your work VERY VERY GOOD. I AM PROUD THAT YOU ARE DANISH. GO ON. REGARDS FROM LAILA. DENMARK
Alright Margrethe!
Not having a digital single market was definitely a factor. Not having the capital also. A third reason is that the Commission is forgetting that US VCs targeted the European electronics industry and systematically dismantled it to generate investment capital, as e.g. happened to Olivetti. Of course, European electronics industrial companies failing to recognize the importance of the Internet were also a cause.
Uncle Ben would be proud
She is a good lady...I admire her ethics
She's a communist in disguise.
@@imabegood You're a Communist in public
@@henryfan48 wow that was the most intelligent comeback. Good job sir.
@@imabegoodThanks, btw you're turning 72 in two months, good for you for being alive this long with an IQ of 53, great achievement!
@Diarmaid O'Riordan GB, why?
Sådan Magrethe! Stærkt
it's too late🤷♂️
桃田龍哉 better late than never, I guess? Haha
The EU needs a single strength market so it seems.
Please get things done and fast. These companies are making €1000+ Billions in revenues per year, they laugh at few Billion in fines here and there after a decade in the courts, please we need quick and effective regulation but also invite these giants to come and solve the many ptoblems in Europe, they have the capacities to really help and quick. If only they were asked. With success comes responsibility to help.
Why? Why should they come and fix the problems in Europe? When all that EU does is give them a fine.
They are a business. Not a charity!!
@@kalsidi it's a business so don't allow them to profit unless they contribute to fix the problems in European society.
@@kalsidi Europe is the biggest market for Google, Facebook, Twitter, by far bigger than the US market, and also way bigger than totally non-existant Chinese market for these US big tech companies, they will be forced to follow demands by Europe, else they can just kick them out of this market. Asking them to solve problems in European society is the minimum ask that should be agreed to by them as a condition to accessing this market.
@@charbax Apple - the largest company in the world made €150 Billion. In 2021 the EU government made €6028 Billion from taxes. What’s the point of the EU government if US companies have to do their job?
We support u...
Yet the only ones getting something from this cake are mostly big entertainment companies but not so much individuals...

And no 1 country will dominate tech innovation!, All youth and all innovators anywhere will be encouraged to develop any worthwhile apps and online tech! #THENEWECONOMY
Really legislation against Huawei probably....
Or any company trying to undermine our values for their own profit
Any conglomerate regardless of their origin .
Any company outside the EU for that matter.
Another reason for me to despair at Britain's choice to leave the European Union. You speak so much sense and show real concern for the security ,justice and safety of the people of Europe .
It is all about introduction fof Stalin like censorship....
Such a brilliant woman👏
Can someone explain what exactly she wants to do. Please give 1 or 2 possible examples, like cant over advertise. Real world, true examples.
Nothing because she doesn’t understand the tech....
@@MelaninMagdalene Wow, thank you. Very strange. Do you know what issues caused this, or she just wants to standardise regulations for foreign tech companies operating in EU?
Pancakes
I don’t think there’s much she can do except make tech companies pay extra taxes
@@MelaninMagdalene Ok, thank you.
Catch up with digital development..were in stone age...basically can do nothing 😔
Leave it to court room with billionaire corporations...get US on board. Tell them in 2021 with comes with Responsibility...smh idfk
Stop scripting
It would be funny if they would simply not provide services to the eu anymore.
- think about it -
@ micheal you don't understand the whole point 👎
A world without Facebook, Amazon etc? EU would be a better place.
👎
Consumer protection at its best.
The giants should be taxed more heavily than any person, because their responsibility is infinitely greater. The founders of these companies themselves admit they are largely out of their control in certain matters.
Tax just means skimming of the top and allow malpractice to happen, maybe going to fly in the US. But I enjoy my privacy, thank you.
Brussels f up everything
Another good European woman!
Just like the EU held China accountable. Great work............
Yeah how about Apple app store fundamentally anti-competitive behaviour and monopoly on iOS apps - surely that should be the next target.
Learn what the word monopoly means. In the smartphone market Apple is only 15%. They are so far from being a monopoly it is humorous.
@@bruxi78230 Ok... Imagine that I am app developer and I want to publish my iOS app. What are my options?
@@bruxi78230 Monopoly isn't just about a market share but also about practices stifling competition which in time lead to monopolies.
@@JerzyFeliksKlein ------ Not under current laws. Hard to make the stifling argument when their store has millions of apps. The store creates over 500 billion in economic activity per year. Apple only gets paid on about 11% of the transactions, many apps get a free ride by being on the store (which of course Apple pays for).
Even the biggest crybabies in the world named Spotify have more subscribers than Apple and have grown quickest with customers from the App Store and only pay the 30% fee on a very small percentage of their subscribers. I wish good luck to the EC and US Congress in rewriting the rules of capitalism. They are being led by mental midgets.
Well said. Germany, EU 🇪🇺 must act as a independent countries members. Not decide policy far away thousands of miles away. EU cease dependent on hegemony company and countries.
27 different countries with the same problem I guess what they have in common
ironically, sometimes she seems to be clout-chasing,
hopefully that's not the case.
Hm, she turned out to be smart.
She's very sharp. I voted for her for the Danish parliament 27 years ago. She has only gotten better with time.

Perhaps inappropriate, but this woman has a very nice dress.
Compliments are not inappropriate . If they're coming from the goodness of a kind heart.
countries need to have their own software. only apple android windows.
addictive games, porn for kids if they click 18, privacy gone etc etc
the internet is a highway, that we all drive on every day.
this cannot be in the hands of some rich Americans who now use their money against us.
i stopped using Android, replaced it with Sailfish OS. takes a bit of getting used to.
but doable. we need our own sofware, own Facebook, etc
They started as monopolies it seems
wow she can't even say one thing they are doing wrong...
When you have a hard time accomplishing anything real you become commissioner Vestager...
When German is low in technology, they want to take big tech foreign companies accountable. It is not different from robbing the big tech because Germany doesn’t have big tech. Jealous and greedy!
just like Lagarde...another slosher
Woow woow 😍💋 💝💖❤️
