We saw Jakob trying out a new tactics in the European Champs semi-final and final: he started off easy at the end of the field, stalking the field and watching from behind without being watched by his opponents at the same time. In the SF he waited until 1100m, realising how risky this was as at that point in front of him four runners went down incidentally. In the final, after the first 200m he started improving all the time, moving forward from last place to the top continuously, combining a comfortable position with being unwatched, sparing his energy for a fast last lap because he had not pushed the field’s pace in the early part of the race. This might have been a good test and the best training for him looking forward to the challenge coming up soon in Paris in order not to loose the battle on the final stretch again.

The mile in Eugene was his first competition back after the injury. When he was beaten by Jake Wightman, he didn't complain about anything except beating himself up about his own tactics. He believed he could have won by running faster earlier in the race to make his competitors more tired, but he was overconfident and tried to save power before the 5000 meter. He lost the last two world championships to guys with slower PB's which say a lot: no topend speed. Being able to run quick times in 1500m does not mean you can win Championship finals, which requires a blistering last lap instead of high average speed. You are truly the GOAT if you can outsprint everyone on the last lap like a road cyclist does in the last ~200m of say a 5 hour race. Then you are the GOAT, or you have the WR. He has neither.
Jacob is now on his way to the best shape he could possibly be for the Olympics. He's healthy, happy, humble and ready. That 2nd place finish against Kern at the Classic Pre was a speedy check up to see how his body would cope after all the injuries, as a result he was satisfied with that 2nd place, though he knew he had more in him. I definitely think Jacob's gonna get his 🤴 back in a month.
@@alansamuel2454 Indeed. Yes, overconfident was the vibe I got from Jacob for years. But I think loosing a little and injuries was what make him train smarter and got him humble a bit. To be fair, the 2nd place to Wightman was when Jacob didn't feel well as he was tested possitive for Covid the next day. The the recent 2nd place to Kern was after a long season not racing, so you could tell he was satisfied with the outcome. Other than that, Kern has never beaten Jacob. I give credit to Kern for working hard to get to the level of speed and fitness currently, but I think when Jacob is at his top shape, he's a machine and fierceless!!!
Despite the gains that Kerr has made as of late, Ingebrigsten has always been the favorite. Kerr’s advances have just provided Ingebrigsten more competition.
@@alansamuel2454 if he gets another olympic gold in the 1500, perhaps even doubling, and he gets 1 or 2 golds in the 1500m world champs then I think there’s a case to be made medal wise. Time wise he needs go get one of the legendary records (1500, mile or 3k).

@@alansamuel2454 based on the previous two 5k finals in the world championchips, I think he has a major shot at the 5k gold. I’m more unsure about the 1500m as Kerr seems to be very strong right now. As for WRs, he should have a very good shot at both the mile and the 3k if he gets close to the same shape he was last year. 1.14 seconds in the 1500m is still a lot though… And he rarely races the 5k outside of championships.
Shout out to Sandra Elkasevic (formerly Perkovic) for her seventh European Gold and she only has the one event. "If Jakob needed any kind of confidence boost" Yeah, that seems like something Jakob would need. To be fair, Jakob and his brothers have always competed in the Euro's and it probably has increased their confidence, given the lack of competition they have generally faced. I think this was important for Jakob to get more races under his belt coming back from injury, but I don't think it tells us that much about how he would fair against tougher competition. You'd expect him to be able to run fast last laps, when he is running what for him are slower races. This is not to say there were no good athletes competing against him, but they are not at his level, very few, if any, are. The fact that he broke his own championship record running 3:31 should give some idea of how easy this is for him to win and even at that time he still won by a big margin. A similar comparison would be Femke Bol running 52.49 and winning by almost 2 seconds. It's great that she looks healthy and ran a new WL, but it doesn't give us much idea of how much she can push Sydney.
Drawing parallels between Sydney and Kerr is insane. Do you know how many races until recently Kerr, now 27 years old, never even hit the podium much less win in his entire career? Sydney broke her own record nearly half a dozen times! Jakob has been on the podium in every race since he ran the world championship when he was 17/18. Jakob is one of the most consistent athlete in history and he is only 23 and getting faster and stronger as his body full matures. Josh Kerr should not be even mentioned in the same sentence as Bol, and Sydney. Pay attention to statistics - lap times/splits, wins, intangible conditions athletes race under, their consistency in being in form and executing their strategies under pressure. You can't be a greatest of all time if you only run two races a year in one event.
@@KarthikSusie Yes it would, it's a good job I didn't do that then. I compared Jakob and Femke and the comparison was regarding how much their Euro performance tells us about their possible performance in Paris. Whilst the people they are competing against in Paris is likely to have some influence on their performance at that time, that is not relevant to what I said. The name Kerr doesn't even exist anywhere within my previous comment.
He has been always by far the biggest favourite to win gold in Paris in the 1500m. I don't even see any reason to discuss this. Cheruyot and Nuguse are more dangerous to Jakob than Kerr.
Nice. I suggest a video for the overall performance of the Italian team this year and some non-advertised athletes like Battocletti, who won both 10km and 5km, would be great.
I think Kerr just went “oh shit he’s got 6” Jakob’s run places Josh’s thoughts a level down, which I think is good.whether he didn’t run because he’s saving for the games or that he is too good enough to race the Euro remains a mystery.the 1500m will be an epic showdown in Paris!
I think parts of it is that he doesn't want to show Jakob his gameplan for the olympics, which he most likely would have had to do if he was going to win in the European champs
Lisa Raye sophomore out of West Warwick RI just ran 11.27 ! All by herself in the prelims at new balance to lead all girls .!!! She needs a spotlight brother what she’s doing is incredible
Was looking forward to this video! And amazing what this makes of the Olympic finale! Rooting for Jakob but I think it's gonna need a change in style for him if he wants to secure the W - the last two losses against brits seemed to have bluntly shown his weakness.
Jacobsen’s ‘come back’ run in the Prefontaine made him my favourite for Paris. Being so underdone in racing he really should have placed around fourth in that race - but he came back to racing in incredible form
A fantastic performance from Jakob, but one must remember that the European Athletics Championships used to be held every four years up to 2010, but are now bi-annual. Thus giving the athletes since 2010 more opportunity to win medals.
As we've seen with Jakob his strength is his strength. He will crank the pace up from a long way out and challenge the gut of his rivals. His weakness has been that if you are close enough he doesn't have a big kick finish and people can run over the top of him.
Ingebrigtsen is an exceptional athlete however got to say that the competition at the Europeans isn't up to the standard he will meet in the Olympics. He's achieved so much at such a young age at the Europeans - probably because he's always able to run relaxed without the pressure he feels at the Worlds (& Olympics).
Jakob is the clear favorite in my book but this is the deepest field ever and anything can happen on finals day. Kerr's 3:45 in the mile and performance at Worlds shows that he will be very hard to beat. Jakob is the one to do that. It will be really interesting to see the tactics in this race. Will the Olympic record go down?
It seems Jacob has been working on his kick. Josh should take notice. I'm betting on Jacob to win in the Olympics; I think he will improve more, while Josh is on more of a peak, since their last meeting. Btw, are there any more major US or intl meets before the US olympic trials (June 21-30)?
thissss more than anything. he's like ok i'll just do tactical and chill and then see if i can blast a 52-53 lmao. He knows he probably has slight edge in fitness or at least 50/50 so if his altitude speed work raised his lactate threshold-- he wants to see it in action so he knows what to lean on kicking against kerr et al.
Comparing the knee drive In his loss to Kerr and then in this race, he looked significantly more powerful down the stretch! If he keeps improving at this rate it will be a great Olympic finals
JAKOB might as well take down the world record of Cheptegei at this point the man is simply the king of the 5k and i look forward to him taking on the 10k, half marathon, and the marathon he still has time.
Jacob Ingebrigsten have a nice running style , almost perfect ! He is born to becomme a exceptional atlete. Somme atletes have those much extra, like a pogacar and evenepoel ... There muscule structure is so much better than common atletes. If you see Jacob running you have the impression he could go mutch faster because he is running relaxed and smooth . Somme people are born with special gifts and can do fysicly more than the average people.
I still think Kerr is the favorite, but I am rooting for Jakob. Once Jakob is done with 1500 and begins to focus on the 5000m, the world will be put on notice.
@@coachRoomeIt will definitely happen, but I don't know that it'll be quite that soon. Depends on how Jakob does in the Olympics and whether or not he's able to get the world records in the 1,500m and mile. I'm thinking maybe in the '28 Olympics we'll see that. It'll be fun to watch whatever happens!
The 5 has been a lot more competitive than the 15 for quite some time now and will continue to be. So i dont think the world will be "put on notice" by a big fish from a small pond.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be crowned with the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal. By no means will Josh Kerr crumble, but he shan't win, either. Kerr will truly wish he had not trash-talked Jakob, but it's hard to fix foot-in-mouth disease. Please, do not misunderstand me, Kerr is great, and has run the times (broken the indoor 2-mile to prove it). Be that as it may, In a few weeks, Jakob will arrive in Paris with a couple powerfully-developed new gears to wage war on the track. Let's pray both men are fit, healthy, and let it all hang out-----with the result being Jakob shall stand at the top of the podium. Thanks for the video, and comments. Well done.
It’s a bummer Kerr didn’t show up. The Olympics is gonna be awesome. It’s gonna be interesting if Kerr gets the better of him again this year and tries to downplay Ingebritsen’s European champs accomplishments. Part of being great is showing up. I know European championships isn’t the Olympics, but I would suggest it’s worth showing up for if you want to downplay your rivals’ accomplishments.
I agree, I get that its an olympic year but still had Olympic favourites like Femke and Keely show up and represent their country. One positive is that it gives up and coming Brit athletics a shot.
I can't wait to see if either Matthew Hudson Smith or Alexander Doom can become the first European to run sub 44 seconds at the Olympics. My money is on Smith.
He is from flanders, flanders is a part of belgium, Belgium is a tiny country in europe. We had GREAT atletes in the past and will have GREAT atletes in the future . Doom is a nice name translated to englisch. See Nafi Thiam alreddy 3 times World champion on the hectatlon . We have more to comme
I believe the pace of the race will determine the winner of the Olympic 1500M. The field at the Europeans wasn’t exactly strong, and while a 26 last 200M and 53 last 400M is good, it was certainly not great off a moderate 3:31.95 final. If he’s restored his peak fitness/health by the 1500M final on August 6 - still 7 ½ weeks away - it appears logical to me that Ingebrigtsen will have to take the lead a long, long way out from the finish and run near (or achieve) a world record to win given favourable weather conditions. It’s almost certain he’ll be the best/strongest endurance athlete in the field (look at his spectacular 2000M and 2 mile world records), so to maximize his winning chances he’ll want to be at 800M (even-paced) in around 1:51 (probably in the lead) and 1200M in under 2:47 (2:46 would be ideal), before grinding out a sub 40 second last 300M. That should take the sting out of Kerr’s (or anyone else’s) kick. The greatest 1500M athletes in the past have used this strategy to crush the kickers - Herb Elliott in 1960 (a WR in the final), Kip Keino in 1968 (a near WR at altitude in the final). El Guerrouj lost the 2000 final and almost lost the 2004 final because he let the kickers into both slower-paced races. In the 2004 final he ran the last 800M in about 1:46.9 and last 400M in about 0:51.9 for a modest 3:34.18 final result. In fact he ran from 800M to 1200M (in the lead) in 0:53.28 and the last 300M in 0:38.97 (equivalent to 0:51.96 400M pace), and still barely held out Lagat. (The first 800M was done in a very slow 2:1.93). Ingebrigtsen appears to be inviting defeat unless he’s prepared to grind out a sub 3:27 (maybe even a sub 3:26 WR, which he’s capable of at his absolute peak under favourable weather conditions).
2 major factors--- Can Jacob be 100% healthy for the Olympics? He gets sick a lot. He rides the line with his body and health. What kind of race will he run at the Olympics? I think he needs to go out fast and make Kerr keep up.. If its tactical, the kick goes to KERR.
He can’t win a 1500 gold in the Olympics as the rabbit. Ideally he needs someone else to create a good pace for the first 800m. Either way Kerr will be there or thereabouts - he’s not just a kick-merchant. If the East Africans turn up and want to medal then I think Jakob wins because they will need to force the pace and drop the field. Otherwise it will be a similar race to last time, small margins and 50/50 in my opinion. Where Nuguse is at the bell might play a big role.
I think Jakob is satisfied with the EU championships because he deliberately tried as little as possible and still won easily. You can see he wasn’t taking the races very seriously without Kerr.
Jakob is still better than Josh in my opinion. Josh has made tremendous progress for sure, but Jakob is just something else. Jakob will win in the Olympics.
I mean, Kerr has always been bad at showing up when it matters most. So I'm hoping he is there for the olympics, it is a bit tiering to hear him talk so much trash based on the fact that he won a single race against Jakob and beat Jakob in his season opener. Hopefully the rivalry will be as fun at it has been hyped up to be.
can you talk about Dominic lobules 10k at the European games? (and maybe his story too? he can start for Switzerland at the European games and things like Diamond League but NOT at the olympics)
Leading start to finish won't win, staying close to the front but out of the lead allows him to draft and save energy, then it all depends who has the best kick. Could see a final lap under 48 seconds in the finals of the 1500.
In Paris, Jakob will need to set a blistering pace from the start. He cannot out kick Kerr in the last 200m. To win gold in Paris, Jakob needs to have some separation in the last 100m. My money is on Kerr in the 1500. On his day, nobody can touch Jakob in the 5000m
Hello. Jakob ofcourse has the European 1 mile record from the last Diamond league in Eugene in 2023 there he also won the 3000 m race. Johs Kerr got the British record in Eugene this spring. I think both Josh Kerr and Jakob are outstanding midle distance runners, and both of them can win the 1500 in Paris. And they also respect each others, the other fiight between them are made by media, they are just joking. After Jakob lost 4 months of training after his injuy this winter I don't know what he can manage, but he is a long distance runner who is quite fast at 1500 and is much faster at the last kick than he showed in fewer in WC in Beograd, and I think the one of them with the best day will win 1500 in Paris. Jakob is probebly better at 5000 m in Paris if he is fully back. And in a world record race he might have better chance on the 5000 m record than the 1500 m record even if he has 3.27.14 at 1500 m last year he hasn't tried a fast race on 5000 m since early summer 2021.

If he doesn't it will really hit his ego and maybe for good. Wightman then Kerr have kept him out of the first position for some time.
@@ddahstan6876 he was sick during parts of the world champs last year as well, ran the 5k with a fever
How did Kerr break the European record 6:31 if Jakob ran 3:43 last year at Prefontaine?
I think Kerr got the British record in the mile not the European record….he might’ve misspoken
think he missspoke. Kerr broke the british (his national) record. Jakob has the european mile record.
By having Chat GPT write the script.
I was looking to see if anyone else noticed. Kerr broke the British record.
@@Darenimo@delargealex This video was definitely not made with ChatGPT, just watch any podcast with Runningprod and you will know
Hes back baby
Despite the gains that Kerr has made as of late, Ingebrigsten has always been the favorite. Kerr’s advances have just provided Ingebrigsten more competition.
Let's see if Jakob can replicate this in the Olympics.. Tactics will play a very important factor
Jakob 3.43 4.43 7.54 how do you beat that I still can't believe he did that
Also 7.23, 3.27
Timewise he's top 3 in the middle distances ever. Medal Wise he's still got to do more.
@@thewalkingjoke3843 If he gets those medals and a WR in either of the 3, I'll call him the GOAT. But I don't see him doubling frankly speaking. Only if every major contender is out cause of injury.
Josh kerr = Femke bol
Jacob = Sydney mclaughlin
He has been always by far the biggest favourite to win gold in Paris in the 1500m. I don't even see any reason to discuss this. Cheruyot and Nuguse are more dangerous to Jakob than Kerr.
How? Kerr has insane strength and speed
Nice. I suggest a video for the overall performance of the Italian team this year and some non-advertised athletes like Battocletti, who won both 10km and 5km, would be great.
Italians crushed the champs!
Shout out to the triple jumper Jordan Diaz Fortun for jumping the third longest jump in history!!! Pretty special 🔥
6:31 The National Record of Steve Cram, Jakob holds the European record.
the belgians comeback in the 1500 was also pretty sick to see how one went wide and one went in the inside
Who ever wins...it's going to be great to watch..❤
Just to correct, Kerr took down the British record in the Mile not the European which stands at 3.43.13 or something by Jakob Ingebrigsen
Every week JUST history is made
Kerr is saving his legs, he knows Jakob in great form and he has to make every race count
Josh Kerr took down the European record? What about the third-fastest time ever run in the mile?
Jacobsen’s ‘come back’ run in the Prefontaine made him my favourite for Paris. Being so underdone in racing he really should have placed around fourth in that race - but he came back to racing in incredible form
Jakob is always the favorite IMO.
Cole Hocker 3:27:65. Gold! Jakob’s dominance is over.
A fantastic performance from Jakob, but one must remember that the European Athletics Championships used to be held every four years up to 2010, but are now bi-annual. Thus giving the athletes since 2010 more opportunity to win medals.
I think Jacob is building and is the favorite, but it will be super exciting to see the duel!
You have to talk about the triple jump at the euro champs !! We got the third performance of all time !
50/50 between them hoping tha Jacob comes out on top!
This strategy is JI adapting and adaption always prevails. Kerr not present is a sign of fear.
More intrested about that last 200m in the seni final while jogging 🤭😂
Dr. Doom is out for world domination in the Olympics
Yep - 2-3 weeks of altitude speedcamp pushing up his lactic threshold.
Someone is working on their kick…
thissss more than anything. he's like ok i'll just do tactical and chill and then see if i can blast a 52-53 lmao. He knows he probably has slight edge in fitness or at least 50/50 so if his altitude speed work raised his lactate threshold-- he wants to see it in action so he knows what to lean on kicking against kerr et al.
When you are racing against DOOM, there is only one winner 🏆
Comparing the knee drive In his loss to Kerr and then in this race, he looked significantly more powerful down the stretch! If he keeps improving at this rate it will be a great Olympic finals
JAKOB might as well take down the world record of Cheptegei at this point the man is simply the king of the 5k and i look forward to him taking on the 10k, half marathon, and the marathon he still has time.
Kerr chickened out here 🐥
Jacob Ingebrigsten have a nice running style , almost perfect !
The 1500m race was June 12th (last evening)
Can't wait
Rather than the hulk I would think his nickname would be the iceman
Miltos Tentoglou jumping 8,65 twice in the last 2 attempts in the LJ final:"Don't care if I'm a joke to you, imma go have a Greek beer"😅
Wow!
I still think Kerr is the favorite, but I am rooting for Jakob. Once Jakob is done with 1500 and begins to focus on the 5000m, the world will be put on notice.
Would love to see him go for the 5000/10000 double in two years.
@@blainenewton7188 agreed. He’s got so much time in his favour that he could be on the roads by the time 2032 comes around
The 5 has been a lot more competitive than the 15 for quite some time now and will continue to be. So i dont think the world will be "put on notice" by a big fish from a small pond.
@@RiqMoran We shall see.
Jakob will win!
Advantage Kerr, rooting for Jakob.
@@saraadams6447 the same with all the Norwegians like Warholm as well, duplantis always shows up as well
I can't wait to see if either Matthew Hudson Smith or Alexander Doom can become the first European to run sub 44 seconds at the Olympics.
Ingebrigtsen appears to be inviting defeat unless he’s prepared to grind out a sub 3:27 (maybe even a sub 3:26 WR, which he’s capable of at his absolute peak under favourable weather conditions).
he also ran the 3.31 while walking the first 100, would have been under 3.30 if he ran like he probably will in the olympics
Kerr vs Jakob is so entertaining. I’d say equal rn. 50/50
Kerr in the 1600, Jakob in the 3/5000. In 1-2 years yared will be in the big 3 as well.
Ingebergsen absolutely crushed that puny Jack Kerr guy.
You mean Josh Kerr.
@@wilhelmw3455 🤣
Jakob is still better than Josh in my opinion. Josh has made tremendous progress for sure, but Jakob is just something else. Jakob will win in the Olympics.
Josh Kerr peaked early on purpose. Jakob is the favorite
Has Kerr reacted to it? Can’t wait.
Can't wait for Paris!
Why was Kerr not in the European championships ?
I mean, Kerr has always been bad at showing up when it matters most. So I'm hoping he is there for the olympics, it is a bit tiering to hear him talk so much trash based on the fact that he won a single race against Jakob and beat Jakob in his season opener. Hopefully the rivalry will be as fun at it has been hyped up to be.
can you talk about Dominic lobules 10k at the European games? (and maybe his story too? he can start for Switzerland at the European games and things like Diamond League but NOT at the olympics)
Kerr has the upper hand im afraid
Could you make a video about decathlon :P As an Estonian I would love to see that :D
The Norwegian youngsters are coming 😁
What is Kerr's best final 400m split...that will be the determining factor
Leading start to finish won't win, staying close to the front but out of the lead allows him to draft and save energy, then it all depends who has the best kick. Could see a final lap under 48 seconds in the finals of the 1500.
The European record in the mile is 3;43 and it is not held by Kerr
🎉
Anyone know why Kerr was not at the European Championships? I imagine his manager doesn't want him to meet Ingebrigtsen before the Olympics anyway
We miss mathew bowling d riding
Ah yes, Latveria’s finest athlete: Alexander Doom. He even has a PhD
The amount of typos in trp videos is baffling
Been out of the loop, where’s Josh Kerr at
I was thinking the same thing. These were the European championships
Resting
Being a pussy.
Kerr has never raced a lot. When Jakob is not injured, he races constantly, which is what fans want to see.
Please don't mis-spell his name! Around 5:17 you call him Ingerbrigtsen, with an extra 'r', twice!
Jakob literally jogged both races.... Nothing special there.
Inorganic gains
6:25 How could Kerr take down the European record in the mile when Jakob has run faster 🤣🤣
