Eureka moment! I finally solved a problem and I wanted to share with your viewers. I've been having a hard time getting the 'exact' correct moisture into my bathbombs. I've had to 'redo' 4 different batches because they were too powdery after drying perfectly. Or too wet with only a 'tiny' bit of moisure added. Here was the key for me. (and credit to my husband who has been listening to my woes.) He said, maybe it has to do with the 'time you need to let the material sit with the moisture in it first.) AHA! Yes Yes Yes....just like when you Autolyse bread flour to hydrate it over time before continuing, ...just like when you use Slake time to allow mortar time to hydrate before adjusting water amount in the mix....Just like when ERIKA says she puts a small amount of water into her bakingsoda 1st....and couldn't fully explain why it just made them smoother/better. I have since made 3 BATCHES OF BATHBOMBS TO PERFECTION by hydrating my baking soda first....and also letting the entire bathbomb mixture sit for a good 15 minutes before adding my final ingrediant (citric acid). And Voila! Perfect bathboms. So glad my hubby actually listens to my problems. ;)
That sounds sooo promising to my problem that I'm facing currently. So I have been following everyone's advice: put the acid citric last! My mixture is always perfect before the citric acid, yet it becomes too wet right after I add citric acid in it and the bath bombs always expand out of the molds. If I use the same recipe with baking soda and citric acid added at the same time, it's even too dry and I will need more witch hazel (My dry ingredients % is 98%). So I guess I will try letting the mixture set for a couple of minutes before adding citric acid and see if it works :D
So true. I have also noticed it. I got distracted by my husband while making bombs, thinking that I still needed to add more water (I use witch hazel actually) but when I return to making them they were wet enough. So indirectly my hubby helped me also. 😁😁
I came to the same conclusion about allowing more time for my product to soak, and absorb the moisture. Nice Discovery! I found this out when the last half of my cubes came out better than the ones at the beginning of my process.
Thank you very much for your time and video I find that a lot artrepreneur ask for money for what your doing and I feel blessed lets give her a 👏👏👏 for the good work she's doing
I have been a soaper for years and I’m just trying to get things going again. Today I had a battle with bath bombs 🤦🏻♀️ so thank you for all your great tips I was close to saying never again. But you have convinced me it’s worth it to keep trying. Thank you so much. 🙏🏻❤️
This video is loaded with great tips. For one thing, you have helped me figure out why my dry, crumbly mix went from that to prematurely activated B Bombs once molded. It was those little pockets of moisture, even after 1 spray. Thanks for your generosity. You really have good teaching skills. May your business be all you want it to be.
Damn. The video has such dense info about bathbombs. All the issues that I encountered during making em has been answered by you in this video. Felt like I was talking to you one on one. Thanks a lot! ❤️
I can’t thank you enough for this video, I have owned my bath bomb press for almost 5 years , and it’s been on the shelf for at least 4 of those years . I’m diving back in to and this time buying a dehumidifier! Could never understand why I couldn’t get the mix right ,… Your videos are very inspiring and appreciated Thanks again
I just started making bath bombs a month ago and have had many problems. Thanks for the video . It is so detailed and explained all of my issues and more! I love making them. I got hooked when I bought some out of curiosity online and did not want to keep paying the price.
Thank you so much for this video, I’ve been struggling with bath bombs lately and found nothing in other videos that I didn’t already know, and I’ve learned so much through your video that Should help me big time, thank you so much! Your awesome!
I have just come across your channel and I love how friendly and informative you are! I have been toying with the idea of making bath bombs for a while now but I have no chemistry knowledge or an idea on how to start. Will continue to watch your channel though, thank you so much!
Mine have been .. dry and crumbling..or it expanded 3 times its size.. so I changed the butter from coco to shea.. then it was developing the pimples and sweating 😤 omg i swear I cried!!! Putting all I have financially into starting this business 🥺😭 can't afford to keep messing up!! But this video answered my questions. I think its definitely my humidity and the Epsom salt 🤔🤔 .. I'll try again tomorrow. Ya pray from me!!! Thank you for this video!! Honestly!!!
Thank you for explaining this. I have paid for material that does not even cover half of what you've said. I'm very new to this process so your input is definitely helpful.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I've only just started making bath bombs and I'm so glad I watched this before scaling up!! I love your channel & the information you share so freely! Really, thank you so much!
OMG!!! I so appreciate your problem shooting at the end! It answered so many questions and I'm going to go work with my recipe to tweak it and fix my issues. Thanks again so much!! You're a wealth of information.
Wow. Fantastic video. You really have a gift for this YT thing. And, obviously, also for soap and body care products. You totally picked the right career for yourself.
Miss Jerika, I came across your RUclips videos at the perfect time of my life. I am at the point where I want to use my creativity and start my own bath and body company. I have served in the Marines and then became a medical massage therapist using many different essential oils and creams. I’ve been wanting to start my own small business and this is just too perfect for me. I watch all of your videos and take notes. You are doing so good girl! Keep it up and proud of you as a young woman and couple just living your passions! Thank you for everything so far! Very helpful! Amy Washington
Thank you! I have only just started with Bath bombs - my first batch swelled up and looked like big fat pink meringues - only then did i find your video. I had put epsom salts in them!!! will now be trying a batch without :)
Thank you sooooo much I have a hate 🤬& love 😍relationship with my bath bombs and your video was so informative.I just placed an order & can’t wait to try out the water soluble dyes . I just ❤️❤️❤️your videos !!
Very informative. Thank you because I was about to throw in the towel. I have tried to make these bombshell 3xs and I’ve experienced almost everything, you have gone over. I will not give up🤩🤩🤩
Thank you for the great video, Jerika Zimmerman, and thank you for your amazing smile. I have a question please Is it possible to use food colors instead of mica colors and will it give a great result like in your video?
Thanks for the dehumidifier info. I had trouble with heat melting my cubes, and taking so long for them to dry. They also stick to the ice cube molds, and chunks fall out when I remove them. Now I freeze them before I remove them from the molds, and they come out perfect. I have been thinking about spraying the mold with a non-stick before I fill it.
I have been thinking of using an over diluted mixture of Knox gelatin as a better binder. I just don't know if it will allow my product to dissolve properly.
Thank you for always having a smile 😁. Your information was very helpful. I made some bath balms today for the first time.. without epsom salt. The first 3 came out perfectly. The rest just started to crumble, even after adding a sprits of rubbing alcohol. Should I have used water instead of the alcohol when spritzing? It seem as though it kept getting dry quickly. Good tip on the humidifier. Love all your videos ❤️
I made 8 batches yesterday (1/4 of your regular recipe, for pictures for my website), and things went wrong 3/8 times. Once cracked, once I added too much water (which was very difficult because I quarter your recipe and it was raining) and lastly I was just too tired and added citric acid first lol. Thanks for the recipe, the video and all the tips. The bathbombs are only a small part of my business, but it's the most fun and I want it to be the best, even if it's just a bath product.
Sorry to hear that! I've invested in dehumidifiers AND humidifiers to combat the weather because I know how much it sucks to have a failed batch. Keep at it, though, and the troubleshooting will come naturally over time.
I live in the Caribbean and humidity is inevitable so I have opted to convert my bath bombs into bath dust. Works the same but of course no floating ball.😁
Thank you soooo much Jerika, this has been I would say the most informative video/information I’ve seen regarding bath bomb making. As someone who is just starting making bath bombs, I’m Very thankful to you for sharing your knowledge and experience that I know will help me tremendously with making bath Bombs and troubleshooting what’s going wrong. Loving your videos x
Hi Jerika, Thanks for the video. Is there any way i can make my bath bombs last longer without the use of slsa? I do use buttermilk powder. Should i just lower the citric acid, or is there something else i can add?
I've been having issues recently with my bombs, and it made me so upset I wanted to throw my bath bomb across the room yesterday! :/ I just changed my recipe with taking out epsom salt (small amount of it anyways), but it seems to be a moisture issue. They are cracking so badly after drying for a bit and it's driving me nuts. I will be trying the method of adding citric acid last and upping my oil content (I use only water for the other liquid) to see if that makes a difference! My bf thinks it's the mold I'm using, but the mix is too dry and even when I add water it seems to evaporate and I add more and it's still dry... :(
I love this video! So many useful tips and explained really well. Thank you! I'm curious, have you tried buttermilk powder? I tried it a few days ago in a bath bomb mix and it frothed up great pre-mold, but when I tried it after drying for 24 hrs, no froth, no fizz, not even a tiny bubble. I'm thinking might I have the wrong ratio mix perhaps? I used 1 tbsp to the 1 cup baking soda recipe.
I made a bath bomb for the first time using a recipe I found. It was 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup epsom salt, 1/2 cup corn starch; food coloring (for color), 3/4 tbsp water, scents, 1 tbsp coconut oil, and 1/2 cup lemon juice. I didn’t add epsom salt (forgot to) and not enough lemon juice (for liquid). Mine fell apart. How do I measure out enough ingredients so that it doesn’t happen again or where did I go wrong, where the fell apart after they dried and taken out of the mold?
I have a question - I purchased amethyst dye from fizzy fairy and used it in my bath bombs - it turned them blue- but when I add them to water I get the purple amethyst color. Could it be my fragrance I used ?
Hi! Thank you for your videos they are super helpful. I’m experiencing some issues with the mixture sticking to the pieces of my press and I feel like I’ve tried everything. I have the dehumidifier running, I tried with just baking soda and citric acid, I switched the liquid over to isopropyl alcohol, all of it. I use a different manufacturer but it’s the same concept, he recommended using generic baking soda and at first it did the same thing but then I got frustrated and set the mixture aside for a minute and when I came back to it it felt tacky, so I tried it again and it worked! Do you have any idea what might have happened? I tried to replicate the consistency again and I can’t :( Thanks!
Jerika Zimmerman oh I boiled a pot that was how I got to 27 lol. Our house has a humidifier system it was broken when we bought the house. Looks like we need to get it replaced. Until then a portable one. We just finished the basic set up of my work area so it shoul be easier to regulate. Smaller area than the main upstairs. I just love you. You always respond 💕💕
I'm having problems with my embeds. As soon as I add embed powder my bombs don't stick at that area. Perhaps the embed order is too dry I'm thinking. Thank you so much for all your videos and help !!!!! So many video don't share their recipes. New sub!
Love your videos, thanks for your advice. Any particular type of dehumidifer I should get....I am from Ireland so we always have the boiler on at home so I know its making a difference to my bath bombs and not in a good way! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for sharing your good tips. I'm very new to make bath bombs, and had some issues! This video will help for my next bath booms💜 and I'm surprised that you have a nice machine of Mold.
Jerika!!!!! Have you experienced putting the bomb in the water and it begins to swell up and then it sort of shoots off foaming goodness, then the bomb will spin and fizz and last a nice long time, the water feels great, nice hard bombs, it just looks different from other bombs? Irs like its blooming in the tub😂
Thank you so much Jerika! This is so informative. I just made my first bath bombs today, and it was so bad😭 I’m gonna try all your tips, thanks once again❤️
Thanks so much for the tips. I used your bath bomb recipe , my first couple came out good but then alot of it was to dry and didn't stick together. I'm guessing they were prob good with the wet on the first few but I didn't have it wet enough for the last part of my batch. I wonder if it would help with starting out to cut the recipe in half ? Thanks again for all of your tips :)
Thanks a lot for the informative video!!! I tried my own bath bomb, failed. This is so helpful. I want to try cream of tartar to make it hard. Please tell me the ratio~~
Erika.. i have been failing on lots of bath bomb trials.. and now my bath bomb for some reason wont dry/crumbles... and i already took the epsom salt outtt 😭 what do i doo
I have been loving your videos! Not sure if you respond to comments but I do have a question, I have no idea what is wrong with my mix because it contradicts itself! Some mix sticks to the mold making me think the mix is too wet and then the mix won’t adhere in the center and crumbles very easily making me think the mix is too dry and then the bath bombs won’t get completely solid making me think the mix is too wet ! I am so confused … any tips ?
Love your vids. Question, I’m am expanding into a bath bomb machine and there are several different ones on the market. The issues that you discuss could happen with any machine, and/or do you have a specific reason why you bought the Bath bomb press?
Hello Jerika and thank you so much for this awesome video!! Just one question : I'm looking for buying some kaolin clay , but it seems that there are 2 kinds : the heavy and the light one, which one of them is the right? Thank you in advance 💟
Thank you again I think my problem is the amount of SLSA to citric acid. You are always so informative which isn't always the case. Very helpful presentation again. Thankyou
The japnese bath bombs outer layers of bath bombs is covered with plastic type material or it is little bit sponge and a little toy also their can u tell about this plz.....
Great and very informative video, which solved a lot of my problems with drying bath bombs, so thank you! :) However, I still have one question. I have made a batch of bath bombs 24h ago and bath bombs are hard as rock now (humidity is 35-40%), but if I rub them just a little bit, they disintegrate and leave quite a lot of powder on my fingers. I also tried to paint on them and they started activating even though I used alcohol. Maybe you have some tips? Should I leave them for another 24h to dry or maybe there is too much moisture in my mix? Thanks again!
Try 99% isopropyl alcohol for painting. Even at 70% alcohol, the water content will activate the bath bomb. Powdery bath bombs are a sign of not enough moisture in the mix. Try bumping up your oil a touch. I found using a hard oil like coconut oil, Shea butter or any kind of butter really helps with the powdery bombs.
Hi Jerika, thank you for this video,it was very helpful,I was wondering if we can rebatch bathbomb if we are not satisfied by the end result ,thank youuuuu
Yes, once it’s dry, add a small portion of it to new bath bomb mix. But make sure you’ve mastered Bath Bomb making before doing this or else you’ll just keep accumulating failed bath bomb batch lol
Hello 😊 There is a small clump of incense on the surface of the bath bomb. In spring, it did not appear even if it was made under the same conditions. The dehumidifier is making it 40 percent What's wrong?
Hi Jerika, I recently started to make bath bombs and I'm finding your videos extremely helpful. One thing I wanted to question, apologies if it's a repeat one (though I did check comments first!), hot water in the WSD, any idea why it makes a difference on the vibrancy? It was something that just made me go "wait, what?!" from your video and now I'm eager to try it myself! Keep up your amazing work, and stay safe!
It "blooms" the dye. Not sure the science behind it, but check out fizz fairy's website (link in description). They explain it a bit more. I definitely get more vibrant coloured bombs after diluting in hot water.
Such a great video! Thank you. I was wondering if you can help me out. After mixing my bath bomb mix (before molding) my mix starts to get clumped together, it should not be doing this right ? Also does the Shea butter make an all white bath bomb a yellow tint to it ? Or would it be bright white.
Depends I think if you’re using refined vs unrefined. Unrefined might leave a yellow tint, not sure. The refined Shea butter shouldn’t. Also... its such a small amount im wondering if that’s what’s colouring your bath bombs or if it might be your fragrance oil?
I'm having a issue with bath bomb turning brown due to fragrance oil having vanillin in them. I've used a vanillin stabilizer but it makes my dry powders too wet and finished product will not fizz. Help please.
Could you possibly do a video not sure if you have done one on this subject but products needed to get started if wanting to start a bath bomb business from home?
I haven't made bath bombs as yet, however I figured it was a breeze as so many people (here on RUclips) make their bath bombs with seemingly zero problems. Only need 2 more ingredients and I'll give this a go. Woo Hoo.
Hi frm malaysia.. u share a really great tips as im a newbie to this bath bomb making.. but ur channel provide a lot of tips and sharing n makes me feel ease.. thanks a lot
Eureka moment! I finally solved a problem and I wanted to share with your viewers. I've been having a hard time getting the 'exact' correct moisture into my bathbombs. Such a great anecdote and definitely useful for other bath bomb makers! Glad you were able to troubleshoot!

Hi! Thank you so much for this video . Do we need to continue maintaining the humidity after the bath bombs are developed?
Thank you! I have only just started with Bath bombs - my first batch swelled up and looked like big fat pink meringues - only then did i find your video. I had put epsom salts in them!!! will now be trying a batch without :)

Thank you for this video! My bath bombs are too wet. Can I add more cornstarch to the ingredients and remold them, or do I have to start all over?
Thank you so much this was such a relief, I learned so much
I love your videos! They've really given me a lot of insight and clarity. Thank you!!
Glad you like them!
THANK YOU!!! The dehumidifier is now a game changer for me!!
Hi!!! Thank you so much for this!!! Can you use the same colours that we use for normal soap making??
Thank you soooo much Jerika, this has been I would say the most informative video/information I’ve seen regarding bath bomb making. As someone who is just starting making bath bombs, I’m Very thankful to you for sharing your knowledge and experience that I know will help me tremendously with making bath Bombs and troubleshooting what’s going wrong.
Loving your videos x
A very clear explanation of all the issues we may come across when making bath bombs. Thanks for your sharing.😍

You can always proportionally increase or decrease Jerika’s recipe!
I just wanted to let you I love your videos thank you
Yayyyyy!!!! I love how foamy they are!
Thank you for making this helpful video, Jerika, it has so many helpful tips. ☺️💕

I used your recipe for humid weather and forgot to put the shea butter. Will they be ok to use?
I tried to replicate the consistency again and I can’t :(
Thanks!
The press works best with a drier mix, so that’s probably what helped. Try not to add so much water or alcohol and add it in small amounts.
This is a great video My humidity is 26-27. My bombs are dry. So I should buy a humidifier and bring to 38-40? Thanks so much for sharing💕🌸💕🌸
Yes! Of boil a pot of water. I’ve heard that helps too!
Another great video is well needed. You rock.
Thanks, you too!
I'm having problems with my embeds. As soon as I add embed powder my bombs don't stick at that area. Perhaps the embed order is too dry I'm thinking. Thank you so much for all your videos and help !!!!! So many video don't share their recipes. New sub!
Thank you so much for this I’m just starting and this is amazing info
This is such a good video! thank you for all the information. you can tell you know your stuff!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much! Mine are turning beautiful but they don’t float
But thanks again!!
Keep it up and micro adjustments are good!!
Love your videos, thanks for your advice. Any particular type of dehumidifer I should get....I am from Ireland so we always have the boiler on at home so I know its making a difference to my bath bombs and not in a good way! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all the great tips! Your a life saver!!🤗
Happy to help!
Thank you so much for sharing your good tips. I'm very new to make bath bombs, and had some issues! This video will help for my next bath booms💜 and I'm surprised that you have a nice machine of Mold.
This is awesome. I have been making bath bombs for years and still make some of the same mistakes you list. Thank you so much! xoxJen
I just made my first bath bombs today, and it was so bad😭
I’m gonna try all your tips, thanks once again❤️
Thanks so much for the tips. I used your bath bomb recipe , my first couple came out good but then alot of it was to dry and didn't stick together. I'm guessing they were prob good with the wet on the first few but I didn't have it wet enough for the last part of my batch. I wonder if it would help with starting out to cut the recipe in half ? Thanks again for all of your tips :)
Super helpful. Good summary of problems well explained. Merci 😏👍😊
Thanks a lot for the informative video!!! I tried my own bath bomb, failed. This is so helpful. I want to try cream of tartar to make it hard. Please tell me the ratio~~
If you do not want to use polysorbate 80 what is the next best emulsifier?
This video is so super helpful! Thanks so much
Erika.. i have been failing on lots of bath bomb trials.. and now my bath bomb for some reason wont dry/crumbles... and i already took the epsom salt outtt 😭 what do i doo
I bought the bath bomb press due to its good reviews and that they’re a Canadian company.
Great info thank you u so much. Just one question do u recommend grinding your citric acid?
I have just used fine citric acid so I’m not sure! I don’t grind mine.
@@JerikaZimmerman where do u get your grinded citric acid from?
Hi Jerika, Is it safe to use Citric Acid for Doggie Bath bombs?
Hello Jerika and thank you so much for this awesome video!! Just one question : I'm looking for buying some kaolin clay , but it seems that there are 2 kinds : the heavy and the light one, which one of them is the right? Thank you in advance 💟
Not sure which! I just get the regular kaolin clay.
Thank you again I think my problem is the amount of SLSA to citric acid. You are always so informative
which isn't always the case. Very helpful presentation again. Thankyou
Thank you so very very for your wisdom this really helps! God bless you for your helpfulness
Hi, how much polysorbate 80 do you use? Can you use food coloring? Thanks soo much!
Thanks so much for your help I leaned alot
Hi Jerika, thank you for this video,it was very helpful,I was wondering if we can rebatch bathbomb if we are not satisfied by the end result ,thank youuuuu
Yes, once it’s dry, add a small portion of it to new bath bomb mix. But make sure you’ve mastered Bath Bomb making before doing this or else you’ll just keep accumulating failed bath bomb batch lol
Hello 😊
There is a small clump of incense on the surface of the bath bomb. In spring, it did not appear even if it was made under the same conditions.
The dehumidifier is making it 40 percent
What's wrong?
@@JerikaZimmerman Thank you so much for your prompt reply! Hope you and Cale are doing well :)
Hey can I get the link of dehumidifier that you use.
Citric acid can be crystalline or should be powdered
Thank you so much for the knowledge I never knew from my chemistry teacher ❤️❤️
I'm having a issue with bath bomb turning brown due to fragrance oil having vanillin in them. I've used a vanillin stabilizer but it makes my dry powders too wet and finished product will not fizz. Help please.
Thanks for sharing hun! Such good info.😊
Could you possibly do a video not sure if you have done one on this subject but products needed to get started if wanting to start a bath bomb business from home?
Basically, like a beginner's guide on a budget but the essential products needed to get started.
In the works!
@@JerikaZimmerman Omg. Please. That would be really awesome. ❤
thanks for this video im learning a lot from you my dear...im a fan.
Glad to hear that!
I haven't made bath bombs as yet, however I figured it was a breeze as so many people (here on RUclips) make their bath bombs with seemingly zero problems. Only need 2 more ingredients and I'll give this a go. Woo Hoo.
And THAT tip addict crictic acid last is the one thing that's worth watching this whole video for thx
Hi frm malaysia.. u share a really great tips as im a newbie to this bath bomb making.. but ur channel provide a lot of tips and sharing n makes me feel ease.. thanks a lot
Do you have a recipe? Because your mixture looks nice
