I've been sewing & making my own clothes for about 40 years, this is the absolutely BEST method I've ever seen for zippers! I can honestly say I've never seen this method before, but I'm so glad I found your channel. I've not had much success with the other "regular" method but I stitched right along with this video and the zipper on the jeans shorts I'm making came out PERFECTLY!!

Happy to hear you found the tutorial helpful! And rest assured that there has been some cussing while figuring out the best way to do this, but I’m willing to make that sacrifice to make sure I teach you the best way 😀

This was a totally awesome tutorial. I followed along sewing my jeans zip as you sewed yours. The only difference was, I was making a skirt. I stopped the video several times to replay parts that I didn't understand. But it all worked! Haven't put a jean zip in in over 20 years. Thank you, so much.

Oh my gosh, THE clearest explanation for this process. Most tutorials I've watched for reminding myself all the things I did at Polytech 10 years ago, usually have at least one step missing info or very hastily gone over. But this is LITERALLY step by step and includes all the little things that you automatically know if you're experienced, but might not if you're just learning, like ways to press things. As a visual/kinesthetic learner, this was perfect, and I will be bookmarking your tutorials for future use!

This is such a generous offering of your expertise! I've been about 80% happy with the method I've been using and your method addresses all of the issues I've been struggling with. I have a new pair of jeans just cut out and I am excited to try this! And we're almost to the point when I can start counting the days until I get your Sewing Jeans Book! Thanks :-)

Happy to hear that this tutorial gave you some new aha-moments! This method is pretty much fail proof, which I think is the reason it's prefered in the garment industry. Everything is done on the flat, with no tricky maneuvering

So enjoy your very clear explanations of how to get the job done, with great results. I have Butterick, Kwik-sew, Stretch & Sew, and Burda Jean patterns, and have sewn them all, but the pattern instructions have always mystified and frustrated me. This from a person that has sewn for the last 55 years, my first project being pants for my Teddy bear., oh, and 2 years of Best Of Show at the local fair, which were girls party dresses. But jeans were scary . Pants came out less with then stellar results . After watching this video a few times I had the know how and confidence to sew a great pair of jeans. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts.

Thank you so much for this video and super clear instructions! I made one pair of jeans with this method and am currently working on a pair of jean shorts. In case it is helpful for anyone else, to prevent fraying at the intersection of the crotch curves below the zipper, I found it helpful to 1) staystitch along the crotch curve on both legs BEFORE notching the crotch seam; 2) serge the two sections of the crotch curve separately AFTER notching, and then weave in the long serger thread tails :)

Great video. I started sewing over two years ago and I always struggled with the damn zipper. Partially because I generally only did one a year so when I got to do another I’d forgot what I did. The only hard part is hand basting seams on my heavy work pants with them being 20oz cotton canvas. However it turned out well this way! It’s tough putting a needle through 4 layers plus a zipper tape. I probably watched parts of your video two dozen times. ❤️

I'm really not understanding all the comments gushing about this method. The explanation is good up to the point you sew up the bottom crotch, i actually tried this and trying to fold under the seam allowance and placing the left side over the right is basically impossible unless you are using a very lightweight denim or the crotch has very little curve to it. The video basically just brushes right over this step with no tips, hints or alternative methods. I have the book she sells and it is the exact same thing. Seems like the people praising this video have not actually tried it. I ended up snipping into the seam allowance at the notch on both sides so i could sew a normal wrong sides together flat felled seam

This method of zipper fly assembly is so easy. Why the patterns from nearly every company tells you to sew the crotch seam first then try to sew to the little dot, WHICH YOU CANT SEE, is beyond me. That makes an easy task difficult. This method, no dot to matching, so easy.
