I did a nerdy speed dating at a con once and it is 100% that awkward. Half the time the guys could barely speak above a whisper cuz they were so nervous.

I mean, I never dated anyone like me before (as I told in other comment, metalheads and geeks from my country were persecuted and attacked from 2008 to 2013 to the point of me becoming the very last metalhead in my region), but I'm happy these people are getting a chance to find a SO that is on their vibe; this should be encouraged more and more 😄🤗.

I feel lucky that I didn't have to deal with this much. Most of them were busier getting into my pants and not caring about my knowledge. But as soon as I was with someone and there was no real way to get into my pants, that's when they decided they had to challenge my place among gamers. My current husband, then bf, heard I considered myself a gamer and immediately shot his shot back in 2007 without any judgement. He introduced me to WoW that same year and the rest is history.

I do go out of my house to try and meet people. But when you live in an an area where 50% of the population is over 55, and the people my age have overdosed, are married, or locked themselves in their house, it's VERY hard just to meet people I actually like. I understand this. I grew up in and area that was not like that BUT I moved to an area that you described. To be honest it could be she has some underlying issues with things like self esteem. You can seem like the most perfect person but on the inside feel like you aren’t as attractive and such as others say you are. Confidence is a pretty big key in being able to attract people. Nobody wants to go out with someone who is negative or constantly dogs on themselves and can’t take a compliment.

I am 44 and have not lived at home since I was 16, but I do not see anything wrong with adults living at home with their parents. If they are all happy with it then I don't see the problem. I do how ever believe that they help with bills and house maintenance and not mooch.
I appreciate this comment a lot. I still live with my mom and she doesn’t have a problem with it. As long as I help out around the house and help her pay the rent, then I’m good. People in general have a problem with that and idk why. I told my mom that I wanted to move out and live on my own but, renting an apartment has just been expensive lately. Plus, she supports me wanting to live on my own and she doesn’t want to see me struggle.
Since it now takes 3X income just to apply for an apartment, living at home is a great option. As long as kid is a good tenant 😉
It's the responsible thing to do for a lot of people. Forking out way too much in rent for a terrible place isn't going to help you fall in love either. In many places, adult children keeping around while they're still single _because_ it's a good idea to have someone you can _trust_ in your house to help keep it up, pitch in for (the ever growing) expenses, and help things ticking over.

Agreed! I live in a household of 7 adults spanned across 3 generations, and it is actually super nice. I have lived by myself before but moved back in because it saves everyone so much money. Splitting all the bills just makes more sense to me. I guess a lot of people assume that if you live with your parents or grandparents, they are still taking care of you.
Also, as far as SOs, you just move out when you are ready live together lol. My boyfriend actually decided to just move into the house when we started discussing living together. That isn't super typical though.
My husband and I met in band class 19 years ago as middle schoolers. He was patient and non-creepy but open about his interest and I finally gave him a chance in COLLEGE. Married for 10 years this upcoming summer.

You can tell their friendship is amazing and fun and they love doing videos together. I love these dudes and watch Ken's videos everyday, and I have followed along with both of them since PewDiePie started playing Happy Wheels.
I remember at one con this chick always dressed as 'sexy pikachu' (it was also for the booth of selling hoodies and shit) and she would get photos with kids all the time. It was akwards af. But one time she was screaming as loud as possible at these kids bc the one girl, like maybe 7 at most, lightly touched her back i guess when the photo was being taken? It was super uncomfortable since it was in the dealer hall and everyone was around. The mom didn't know what to do lol. So I think 'sexy girl' cosplay can be just as crazy as the shirtless men ones lol.
To be honest something I have noticed about girls who dress overly sexy is that they tend to have issues. They dress that way because they want the attention even if they will deny it to death. I say this as someone who sort of used to do the same shit back in the day when I was in a much darker place. When you feel like nobody notices you you will do anything to obtain that attention even if it’s directed as your body rather than yourself. Of course there can be other reasons that I myself also have but it more often than stems from a lack of self esteem or self worth and a need to be seen by others.

I feel this so much! It almost becomes intimidating in a way for someone to just stare intently into your eyes or face for a prolonged period of time. I’d rather they glance down from time to time or take fleeting glances that give me short breaks. It’s kinda like when someone says it feels like someone’s boring a hole from staring so hard. Dating shows/events always seemed so awkward and has a lot of creepy people. I'm sure some are genuine but it seems like a hard situation. I've never gone to one myself, but just cosplaying and socializing at cons did SO much for my self-confidence and is actually how I met my now boyfriend. Friends for several years, dating for 3 1/2, living together for 2 1/2 so far and it's been wonderful! I finally found somebody who can match my type of nerd lol.

Anime conventions are legit my happy place. Living in a tiny country town means the conventions are my chance to get away and be around fun and kind people who love the same stuff I do! But Ken is so right about there also being creeps. I've had drunk sweary men dance on me because I was dressed as Ada Wong, ive even had someone pick me up and try to dart away with me because I'm small and they thought it was funny. Staying safe is so important!

There’s a stigma about living with home. Sometimes things happen and life doesn’t go according to plan. I feel like the stigma should surround people who live at home but aren’t actively trying to do anything about it.
That’s probably why there is stigma around it.. the ones who are lazy/self centered are the ones that are featured in media - so it may cloud our perception of what these kind of individuals may be like. Sadly, the most negative of a population are often the most well known.
yep here in the UK its extremely hard to get a house/flat by yourself. Even with a partner people struggle. Plus for me I live with parents with disabilities so I also worry about what happens when I am not around to help. I do my fair share in return tho like paying rent, looking after the dog, cleaning up etc.

I can’t express how difficult it’s been trying to save and get back up on my feet but I found a new job and I only have 1 more class left. Many do not see a problem in sexualizing women so that's the energy they operate in but to women it's an *insult* to make any such comments AT ALL. Behaving like an uncivilized animal in front of a woman will make her think of them as a sexual predator because they are clearly showing that's all they care about and will use these "methods" to try and "attract" her for that purpose (and fail because we see it as creepy and degenerate). 9/10 times it's not in good fun and only the dudes are laughing.

I met my nerd at work and he was just as awkward. I hate having to be aggressive but it worked in the end and our 5th wedding anniversary was yesterday. I couldn’t be happier and our 2 year old loves LOTR and Star Wars. He may not be able to sit through the whole movie without playing but he will play right there watching.
