  • The LTO Tracker is a great device that will allow you to pick up the heat signature of game or a person, so it can be used when hunting or as a security device. The LTO performs well up to about 100 yards and over that I find there is too much interference for it to be of any practical use. Still for the price compared to high end thermal gear, I think that under $1000 is fair for it's intended purpose which is finding game that you have shot in the field of a night. It is imported by NIOA: www.nioa.com.au
    Music by Vibe Tracks - Song name: Faith
    This music is part of the RUclips Audio library.

    Thank you! Your reviews have been extremely helpful in my choosing of a thermal imager. As a fellow Aussie, I can say our environment differs to the US, so it’s great to see how this performs for us. The real life examples were awesome! I just got mine today, was keeping an eye out for a good deal. Thanks again for your video! It really made a difference.

    Good review, my personal preference for the cheap thermal option is still the Flir Tk. Sure it's only 9hz and fixed magnification as well as a 160x120 core. But it being Flir, it has the software that upscale the image to the viewfinder. Not to mention they are a few hundred cheaper then the LTO pending on we're you buy.
    Now if the LTO had done similar and not just stick with low Rez viewfinder. They would of had a winner. They used the same thermal core as the Seek IR so you would get similar performance.
    Sadly in this case, your paying for the name and the Gold ring.
    Good honest review.

      I got a demo one for 450 off e bay, it's at the same price I got a torry pines m12 thermal brand new. Sad to say the torry pines seems to climb up in price now for over 700 and I feel they are going to price themselves out of the market.
      My LTO tracker is ok, I'm not sure if I feel using the magnitude to x6 is useful, But I do hope the price would go down for this and other thermals would go down. I'm looking at the ATN thermal rifle scopes, Their price don't seem too bad, But time will tell on this.

    I think you need to understand the LTO a bit better, to be fair, The White Hot and Black Hot setting is not the best setting because as you found out it over powers the view finder, If you use it in the plain White or Black mode then you will see better, The thing to remember it is only showing you a heat source not a photo so yes it will range out to 600 yards, NO you wont be able to ID the Target but you will be able to ID a Heat Source, It is not like an NV scope it measures Heat where as the Military / Police versions are Thermal Cameras which is a totally different thing, Take it to an unlit highway and put it in plain White or Black Mode and it will see things way further, The LTO is a great Gizmo if you forget about what you see on TV and remember that It Does actually see Heat not Pictures, I tested mine out and it was seeing the heat from the Rear of Cars at well over 3/400 yards from their Tyres and Exhaust pipes and a lot further, So give it a go and forget the HOT modes, I have found that the best mag setting is the 1.5 mode which covers a wider area, hope this helps.

    What was the ambient temperature? Performance will decrease in hotter conditions, & vice-versa. Well done on another good job - what a scoop - Australian premiere! What's the go with easy-listening music in the intro rather than the usual heavy metal - mellowing out Ozzie?!

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  7 лет назад +1

      That night was 23 degrees. As for the music, nah, I start to run out of tracks/bands to use so have had to default back to the RUclips Audio Library for some reviews... It's frustrating with using some bands too as I upload the video, RUclips do an auto scan and copyright hold it from being released. I then provide the written permission from the band for using the music to RUclips, they then take up to a month to release the video. It's honestly a real pain and delays the reviews massively, so I can only choose from the RUclips library now if I want it to be released straight away...

    Is this a device that can be used in day light?
    Our team does a lot of walking of water ways to flush out foxes from reeds, darn hard work, frustrating when they sit & won't shift. You know they are in there but not just sure where..
    Keen to find something like that for our tasks.

    just reading up on the review that Thomas Tabor did in the latest Australian Shooter, he appeared to get the performance as advertised.
    I'm wondering if the unit you had for review was faulty. I was surprised how poorly it performed in your real world test & that Leupold would put their name on that.
    wonder if I can try before I buy over here in WA. be handy to find a downed fox in the stubble.

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  7 лет назад +4

      The equipment in those reviews are usually from companies that pay for advertisements and I honestly can't recall a bad review ever in the SSAA magazine of any product!? My review is exactly how it performed in real conditions and I'm not being paid by any of these companies, so I can't speak for other sponsored reviewers but I can assure you that my reviews are 100% honest.

    Honestly, I don't think any of the pictures or video seen through any sort of secondary camera does any justice to the LTO Tracker at all! I have a few Thermal devices and the LTO is clear and sharp in all pallets Inside 300 yards. I had no issue determining exactly what I was looking at. I am not a huge Leupold fan by any means, but when I checked out the Tracker I felt it far exceeds any thermal I have used under $1,500. The closest to the LTO is the Flir Scout II at $1,800. Sorry, I can not agree with your entire review, and the video shown does horrible justice to what it can really do. Thanks for the review though!!

    That's not interference. You're on white hi lo. That means if you point it into space it will still highlight the hottest point, which is the horizon. That's not interference.

    Ive got to use a $40,000 thermal imaging camera... even then the quality is still only about 360p. The quality of this for the money is great.... but the image quality overall.... not great. the cost for this stuff is primarily the germanium glass lenses and the thermal receptors. Getting that into a package like this under $1k is actually quite remarkable. Would I buy it - probably not when a $200 spotlight does the same job. Would I be happy if I got one as a gift? Absolutely!

    I've spent huge amounts of time behind both generations of AN/PAS-13, the CLU on the Javelin, ITAS on the TOW, LLDR's & G/VLLD's, and the IBAS on my A3 Bradley. So I suppose in the eyes of a civilian that makes me jaded or spoiled, but I typically expect better results/less durability when using something that is Civilian marketed COTS product in comparison to our Issued gear, because that tends to be years behind what Civilian tech advances can deliver and for 1/10th the price.
    But for something that is only a few years old, versus service gear I was using well over a decade ago, this actually disappoints me as a night optic. We all know Digital Mag is trash, but the sensor's resolution and discrimination is really, REALLY bad here, and downright dangerous if you're trying to hit anything past 50 meters. Because you just cannot verify what you're looking at with confidence. On a rifle or crew serve weapon, you damn well better be able to clearly read the identifying features of that warm blob via thermal signature if you're even thinking about firing within 300m. Even if you could somehow miracle a tiny 4k display into the reticle, it wouldn't make any difference, because the intensifier/sensor is just too crude to provide target discrimination anyways. I wouldn't be confident that I was shooting at a coyote, hog, Steve from next door, or a ManBearPig even at the short range of 100 meters. At 300 meters with a V1 PAS-13, I am 100% confident, and can almost read the expression on your face. And that thing is almost 2 decades old.
    I do want to thank you for the review though, this saves me from some harsh disappointment if I had added this to my privately owned collection.

      Thanks for posting this info.....very interesting. I immediately looked up what a PAS-13 costs.....and even now they seem to be running upwards of $14,000.00. Maybe you can find them for a little less, but not really apples to apples when you can get this Leupold for 600 bucks. If you had 1500-2k to spend....what would you suggest getting? You clearly have experience with this tech. Thanks!
