I'm really looking forward to hearing more of them! I'm still not super far in the game yet..! Once I finish the rest of the Rebirth chapter 1 analysis vids, I'm thinking of making a video comparing all the ways Remake reuses and rearranges Tifa and Aerith's themes. Would love to do one for Rebirth too, down the line.
It's always nice to see a music analyst worth his salt, and your acumen shows. Video game music never gets the attention it should! Great work, and I can't wait to see more of what you have in store!
Wow, I just found your channel and these analysis videos - I love how you call out all the motifs and arrangements! Playing through rebirth I knew the music was amazing but it’s great to have you take us on this more thoughtful tour of all of it, like really slowing down to savor the musical buffet! And I’m with you for however long the ride takes, there’s so many stunning arrangements of Aerith’s theme (at least a dozen, probably more thinking off the cuff), Tifa’s theme, the Main theme etc and some stunning new tracks too! P.S. I’ve always personally considered the Main theme to be de facto Cloud’s theme
Thank you Kieren, I appreciate the support! Currently getting started on chapter 2! I can definitely see the main theme as Cloud’s theme. I’ve had similar thoughts as well. The omission of a theme for him was always glaring. I think Advent Children’s Cloud Smiles works great in this regard as well.
It's very nice to hear someone give Shotaro Shima the flowers he deserves. I, too, am annoyed that so many of the composers and arrangers aren't as displayed as Suzuki, Hamauzu, and Uematsu. Doesn't help that many of the streaming services just credit Uematsu for every song that used his compositions, leading people to believe that he came back and did most of the soundtrack, when all he did was the main vocal theme, same as Remake. Anyway, back to Shima. When Remake's OST came out and I saw the proper composer credits, I instantly knew that Shima has a big future ahead of him. By far my favourite on the sound team. His arrangement of Let the Battles Begin (A Merc's Job) is basically as perfect as you can get, for me. Exactly how I imagined it would sound in a remake. On Our Way, likewise, is absolutely beautiful. And the constantly building Scorpion Sentinel and Rufus Shinra are chill inducing. I also really liked his original battle theme Tightrope, ever since I heard it in one of the trailers. It's simple, but very effective.
My favorite Shima tracks from Remake are The Day Midgar Stood Still and Fires of Resistance from Chapter 15. Those were some of the first tracks whose credits I looked up, and I knew I had a favorite composer once I did.
This is really awesome! It's so much fun to find out or explicitly reflect on all of these musical references, your voice is well suited for this, and your editing is on point. It's also clearly your own style, which should help you in the long run. I was very surprised when I saw how little traffic this channel currently has - you could definitely do Alex Moukala numbers just by keeping up everything you do in these Rebirth analysis videos. I hope to see your channel grow, I really want to see more of your analyses. Good luck!
OH yeah! You are so awesome explaining away your analysis - heck I don't even mind if you go over board on it, it just means we get to listen to more of your take. I love how the unknown tracks are given ratios as to who it could have been from and then your guess on the composer based on past tracks. The last track that involves Tifa's track being recontextualized I did not even catch the first time around - I just thought it sounded great but never realized that it represented an innocent times to her before life changes for the worst.
I really enjoyed your FF16 series. It made me appreciate the music in it even more than I already did. Analyzing music scene by scene is definitely something you should keep doing.
Thank you very much!! I'm curious, which of the two styles do you prefer? The more granular, Rebirth-style scene by scene breakdown or the broader, theme by theme breakdown of the XVI videos?
I think both styles work for their respective games (action game vs more traditional JRPG) really well but your scene by scene analysis adds a lot context to the cutscenes that viewers might otherwise miss.
I love practically all arrangements to Tifa’s theme that Enix has to offer (…mayb bit less so for the original MIDI) & nother good handful from other fan sources. Personal top favorites being full orchestral, pure piano & guitar. Truly, a lovely tune to set the audience’s heart at ease, as to the lovely character, Tifa who’d definitely set companions’ hearts at ease & comfort any1 who hangs around her. Not much versed in music theory, so it’s great to hav folks who know their stuffs & do the breakdown. My hat tip to you, good Sir.
Dude again, super cool video! I like that you're going chronologically with the in-game music, so many little arrangements and tracks that are absent from the soundtrack and now I get to give a proper listen with added analysis! I don't know how long you intend to keep going like this but if it's chapter after chapter, I'm here for the ride haha, great job and good luck!
Thank you very much! Every vote of confidence means a lot to me :) For the time being, I'm only thinking about doing Chapter 1. These videos aren't setting the world on fire the way my FFXVI video (well by my low standards, lol), so I haven't decided yet if I want to lock myself into a series that would likely take... a hundred episodes! But maybe! They are a lot of fun to make, so I'm not complaining either. I'll see where things are at once I'm done chapter 1 :)
Please I don't mind you over analyzing each track! There is so much good music that isn't on the CD Soundtracks. Little tunes/jingles/melodies that only appear in a fleating moment and never return.
I love how many ways they arrange Tifa’s theme throughout this game
I'm really looking forward to hearing more of them! I'm still not super far in the game yet..!

That Tifa rendition is so different and amazing.
gotta love it! 🪕

How kind of you to say! Thank you very much.

This deserves more views
You are doing your part, Lyces! ❤️🙏

100% agree all around!
Nice to see another Tightrope enjoyer 🤝

Loving this series! Keep it going, Ive been looking for someone to analyze this!
Great, thank you!
Just writing the script for the next episode right now!

Thank you Danny! Yeah that banjo'd Tifa track is so cool! Very different stylistically from the original.
Thank you for making more videos of this series. Absolutely love this type of analysis.
Thank you, Ice Dragon! I truly appreciate your words of encouragement. ❤️
Zangan's theme reminded me very strongly of the Veldt theme in FF6
Oooh interesting catch! Yeah I can definitely hear those opening chords now that you mention it
Hmmm. Sort of. Mayb they shoulda worked harder to associate Zangan’s with Sabin, the martial artist for FF6.
@@simoncss1 ...damn, that would have made a lot of sense!

That’s good to hear. I’m considering a melding of both approaches for the FFXVI DLC videos. Thanks for the feedback!
The yeehaw Tifa theme is SO good such a shame it’s not on the ost
“Yeehaw Tifa” is a fantastic name for it!
I love practically all arrangements to Tifa’s theme that Enix has to offer (…mayb bit less so for the original MIDI) & nother good handful from other fan sources. Personal top favorites being full orchestral, pure piano & guitar.

Well said, Simon! It truly is a fantastic theme.
Pumped for part 3 and a comprehensive breakdown of remake. Awesome work.
Thank you very much! It's been mega busy lately, but finally working on part 3 atm!

Make more! Love it
Thank you! Definitely will make more. I at least have the entirety of Chapter 1 in the tank. Beyond that, we'll see!

Thank you redsarg! I will continue to overanalyze then! 🫡
Shotaro Shima is the GOAT
