I never thought of the sealer as just cosmetic, it also makes it a lot easier to sweep and wipe up spills before they soak in, and will stop the surface from creating dust as it wears. I’ve done a lot of restaurant floors and always apply a good cover of sealer and when that’s cured I apply multiple coats of a high solids floor wax to act as a sacrifice coat for when the floor cleaners mop up, which is usually every night.
