It's good to share the challenges as you build including any "whoopsies." Lord knows I seem to have plenty of them in my projects. Thank you for taking us along on the journey for this project and I'm anxious to see the completed version.
Absolutely! The best way to learn is making your own mistakes, second best way is to watch someone else make mistakes. Some might argue it’s the the other way around but for most us making mistakes important part of the learning process.
Whether it's replacing an ax handle or building this camp kitchen, your project videos are always my favourite. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to join you in your shop.
i think smooth bottom or some kinda rails would be best. i imagine it makes it easier to slide in the back of a truckbed or van etc. rubber feet would snag on things and eventually brake off
Blocking the inside corners would add to stability and longevity. They don’t take up too much room inside either. Thanks for the entertaining information as always.
Growing up in a "camping" family we had 3 of these that my Dad made. A pretty simple way to limit the travel of the lid and front opening is to get some light duty chain and screw it into the wood. We used to put the camping boxes on those old aluminum fold up legs (sadly they are hard to find now) and the Paulin gas stove also had its own set. You could also get a large food grade plastic cutting board and attach it to the drop down door for food prep. And of course drill some side holes for authentic knotted rope handles! Looking good and waiting for the paint and stencils!
Who hasn't done the plunging, jigsawing, recutting to get it done? I wouldn't want to show all the unapproved methods I've used with my chop saw. Thanks for showing the process.
FYI- a tip for consideration: now that the middle shelves are in the bottom square bracing is not needed anymore. Ideally I'd imagine you'd want to be able to SLIDE that Dutch oven in off the flush prep surface right into the bottom of the box without lifting. Also- taking that approach to removing that bottom bracket means the height of implements stored on bottom can be equal to the true height of the bottom of box to bottom of middle shelf. Now its "stealing" 3" of height...
Just a suggestion. Line top with thin galvanized steel both for add fire safety and easy of cleanup, especially the hopefully frequent bacon grease splatter.
"you are watching a man operating at the very limits of his abilities", isn't that the mantra of the ProHo? Taking on a project he might know very little about with courage and determination to get it done in spite of the setbacks. Strong work!
Always have a blast watching you brother! To me this is one of the neatest projects you have built. I want your plans on this one. Thank you for who you are and what you do.
I use vix bits when installing hinges, no need for a awl or center punch and you can control you drill depth. Nice kit, reminds me our our scout troop chuckbox.
I’m telling ya, 34 years of scouting experience here…. ADD A LEG SOLUTION. Small slots added to the side allow you to use 2x4s with 45cuts. That way you have the option if needed but can use a table of space isn’t limited… BUT table space is almost always limited!
doesnt the shelf in the middle eliminate the need for that bottom brace? mount the hinges the other way so the plywood covers those two edges on the back and bottom when close all you should see of the hinge is the barrel
Add carry handles on the sides. Bolted through as it will carry alot of weight. I would also add some thin chain to support the down folding lid. That way it can be work top. Maybe add a sheet of some easy wipe food grade plastic sheeting-big cutting board surface. Lastly put on medium Dollie wheels so you can if its a flat surface you can push it around if stored - dont have to carry it but just push it
I put removable legs that strap on the back couple of carriage bolts and butterfly nuts easy enough and it’s a little bit off the ground I sit on the top when closed I know you are keeping it strong so nice work keep up with your good content
Those Colman stoves can be modified to burn diesel and kerosene. The atomizer tube can be coiled with copper wire to hold more heat. Allowing the diesel or kerosene to vaporize and burn cleaner. Just wrap some copper wire directly over the burner. Something like 12 to 16 gauge solid core wire.tough to light when cold but may save a life. God bless and stay frosty.
You can't grow more fingers, so please use push sticks when using a table saw. Also since you decided to use pocket screws, instead of proper joinery, you should make sure to add corner braces to make the box stronger.
A self centering drill bit is the way to go with drilling hinges. just set it in the hole and it will naturally drill in the center of your hole. no more misaligned screws
You make me look good with the practical things I learn from you. I work in a city neighborhood hardware store and now I know Milwaukee goodies are better than others, and I know what a piano hinge is now. Yeayyyy😅 LOLLLLL "don't do this" "or this" smh you're funny. 😅
You're right about Milwaukee tools being the best. The newer Makita brushless drill design is awful, the runout tolerances are ridiculous and no matter what they do the chuck won't run true
Funny I was going to suggest that colman stove green but never posted comment. perfect and clean color for camping,, BTW I have an awl or icepick I carry as a TOOL but for self defence and trust me they work quite well. But yes They come in handy as much as a knife for many things like you said and public doesnt have a karen when they see you with it... whats funny is when I open carry my hatchet I get less flak than a knive and sheeth?!?!?! public is ignorant
REI and Filson both have plans for similar boxes on their websites. I tried to provide links but wasn't allowed... I bought all the materials to build one, but then started camping without one... now I have a better idea of the gear I want to include within the box... and will customize it for my equipment.
Cody is there any way you can share with us the dimensions of this box. I would like to build one of my own according to your design. Would you be willing to share the dimensions?
Think of it as a door and door frame….. and put a bevel on the inside edge…. If you don’t know what I’m talking about look at a bathroom door and how the bevel allows it to close with a tight reveal….:
I would have gone one step further and put piano hinge on that top front piece so when you lift the top a;; the way up that front cover piece hinges down against the lid.
I love that you laugh when you make a mistake instead of getting angry/frustrated. This is the way of a mature man that I'm still working on.
What I appreciate most about your how-to's is that you show your "mistakes" like drilling through and the realities of the unexpected in projects.

It's a standard Boy Scout patrol box.
15 yr w the USFS as a jumper and never seen one of these except for a range patrol
4 little rubber feet would go well to protect the bottom from getting scratched up ..... great work love these uploads from the UK
(Or maybe felt feet)
i think smooth bottom or some kinda rails would be best. i imagine it makes it easier to slide in the back of a truckbed or van etc. rubber feet would snag on things and eventually brake off
Have to have one. Great idea. Planning on doing car camping and this is perfect for everything no matter where I go.
Blocking the inside corners would add to stability and longevity. They don’t take up too much room inside either. Thanks for the entertaining information as always.
I am a cook buy trade. I love this. I need to build a chuck wagon for the coming struggle. Thanks

Spot on.
My thoughts exactly, bottom bracket is not necessary.
Cody I have loved this series, and I can't thank you enough for wv r ything you do with this channel. Thank you and God bless!
Thanks for all shared wisdom and life experiences. Follower from Puerto Rico, God Bless You.

Nice craftsmanship, Sir!
crazy how cody made it to heaven to make that thumbnail
Always have a blast watching you brother! To me this is one of the neatest projects you have built. I want your plans on this one. Thank you for who you are and what you do.
WOW. THAT IS AMAZING IT WENT TOGETHER SO FAST, so beautiful and smooth editing
Our brother Cody OWNS the USFS
Your live streams are awesome! God bless
Where can I find them? The last one I see posted on RUclips is a month old - thanks
@@schbiker24 Yeah your right the last one was a month ago. I’m hoping my comment will encourage him to make more
We made one similar to that in Girl Scouts. Was very well used for panting trips. Loved it!
This is what we had in Boy Scouts. Good times. We put 2x PVC pipes on each side oriented a 45°. We the put rods in the pipes as legs.
I use vix bits when installing hinges, no need for a awl or center punch and you can control you drill depth. Nice kit, reminds me our our scout troop chuckbox.

GOD bless you and your whole family 🙌
I bet handles/tie down points would be a nice addition
Only a youtuber could drill into his Snapon Box and giggle knowing failure on youtube=success. Love the vids Cody.
That's really cute for a west coast man. An east coast man's kitchen is a hunting knife and a fire rod.
my cousins hubby is a milwaukee fanboy to the fullest. has has every single tool aside from their new lawnmower. and i mean every tool u can think of
great friday night
Thanks for the video!
Nice job. I used horseshoes ( bent at the ends) for the side handles on something i did that was similar to this
Yeah, I’m making my dad one for Christmas next year
doesnt the shelf in the middle eliminate the need for that bottom brace? mount the hinges the other way so the plywood covers those two edges on the back and bottom when close all you should see of the hinge is the barrel
Nice work! I shall make one for me and my boys!
Nicely done Cody

Love it great idea. I’m definitely making one of those..
Reminds me of Cowboy kitchen Kent Rollins! Nice!!
thank you for what you do
We had a camp kitchen made of aluminum that one of my father's friends built for white water rafting. We used that thing on hundreds of trips!
The guides used aluminum Dutch ovens on our Grand Canyon rafting trip. Well, hell; that makes sense.
I had to stop my work day just to let you know I could not stop laughing when you disclaimer'd that table saw plunge cut
You sound like a man who knows a thing or two,
Nice I've been wanting to build one of these so bad for the last year. I built your gas can Box and will do this one to. Thanks man
You can't grow more fingers, so please use push sticks when using a table saw. Also since you decided to use pocket screws, instead of proper joinery, you should make sure to add corner braces to make the box stronger.
Nice work
A self centering drill bit is the way to go with drilling hinges. just set it in the hole and it will naturally drill in the center of your hole. no more misaligned screws
Use small chains to support the top and bottom covers when open.
Great timing as I'm just starting a similar project.
We used to use these in boy scouts all the time. Ours had hooks so the legs could serve as carry handles
Nice I'll throw this on my pack mule on the opposite side from my yeti cooler
I need to see the thing on the ground! I gotsta' know!!!!
And “Ladies” !!
We build things too 👍🏽
A "spring hatch holder" would be my suggestion for the top drawer.
Food trucks are the modern day chuck wagon.
You make me look good with the practical things I learn from you. I work in a city neighborhood hardware store and now I know Milwaukee goodies are better than others, and I know what a piano hinge is now. Yeayyyy😅
LOLLLLL "don't do this" "or this" smh you're funny. 😅
Love the "don't do this" parts. You gotta be at least ProHo 3rd degree blackbelt for that
Wranglpy chuckwagon dirt biking O ya, 500 can can. Yahoo!
There's a guy who looks just like you in an alternate universe who's already done! I just saw his short!
Back in the Boy Scouts we call that a “chuck box”.
Cowboy Kent Rollins would approve…well done!
Thanks! This is great!
You're right about Milwaukee tools being the best. The newer Makita brushless drill design is awful, the runout tolerances are ridiculous and no matter what they do the chuck won't run true
“Don’t do this” “Or this” Someone has been watching Jimmy Diresta? 😂
4:30 sawblade might not be dull. Clean it with degreaser see how it cuts after that.
Funny I was going to suggest that colman stove green but never posted comment. perfect and clean color for camping,, BTW I have an awl or icepick I carry as a TOOL but for self defence and trust me they work quite well. more of this really cool :)
A good old Boy Scout patrol box.
Brass corner protectors FTW
Upcoming video, how the forest service restores a rusty table saw top.
If you switch the bracket that opens the top to reveal the stove to the outside, then it would make it flush on the front.
my kind of carpentry, by the seat of your pants!😁
REI and Filson both have plans for similar boxes on their websites. I tried to provide links but wasn't allowed... I bought all the materials to build one, but then started camping without one... now I have a better idea of the gear I want to include within the box... and will customize it for my equipment.
Old wester looking wranglerstar logo would be sweet on the top or front
This reminds me of that Rebecca Black music video, "Friday".
I wish you covered the lid front edge with the upper front panel
Cook accordingly
Cody is there any way you can share with us the dimensions of this box. I would like to build one of my own according to your design. Would you be willing to share the dimensions?
impressive
Recommend a piece of painters tape for marking depth on the bit.
Think of it as a door and door frame….. and put a bevel on the inside edge…. If you don’t know what I’m talking about look at a bathroom door and how the bevel allows it to close with a tight reveal….:
Kent rollins has a whole wagon. Maybe keep the same idea and modify a truck or trailer just for this to fit...maybe.
Maybe make some leather straps for your hinge part on top to hold it open
Would using glued wooden pegs in the construction add strength at all with the picket screws?
Looks good
nice!
You should make a load of these and sell them.👍🏼🏴
You peaked my interest with the blurred section. Was it just the dewalt tool bag?
Why didn't you make the top go to the sides and being held from under so you get more workspace
Don't worry about the saber saw although it's been a while since i've seen one
you can see madness in his eyes o.O
I like Milwaukee too. But if you are drilling or sawing overhead all day, you'll wish you had a lot lighter DeWalt tool.
Mr. W, when are we getting live streams again? Hurting for that proho gospel.
Why is it that you like to use the impact driver for drilling and the drill for driving screws?
I would have gone one step further and put piano hinge on that top front piece so when you lift the top a;; the way up that front cover piece hinges down against the lid.
Where are you you don’t do live streams anymore finally felt like we weren’t alone what happened
Love wranglerstar but i am chuckling at thw fact that he seems to be apoco-proof the worlds falling apart , and hes showing us cabinets.😂
Where did you get your Milwaukee portaband stand?
