I couldn’t sleep last night so I read that Becky Chambers book. It was a perfect book for that time of reading. Loved it. Gentle, warm. Finished it quickly and fell asleep easily after.
You're so right about the "And What Can We Offer You Tonight" cover. Total Lisa Frank vibes! 🐅 I also just got "The Past is Red" from the library, mostly because I'm willing to try any novella I find in the sci-fi section. :)
Oooh Mages of the Wheel...Jashana keeps hyping that I'll squeeze it into July if I have extra time and yessss that one cover looks like a Lisa Frank folder 🤣
I just started reading the Hugo nominated novellas, too The first one I got from the library was A Spindle Splintered. Off to a great start! It was hilarious I loved it.
I read the golem and the djinni earlier this spring and it was a really sweet, cozy read. I think you'll like the character focus and the shifting perspectives that give this snapshot quality of the time in New York. Omg yes, this is the perfect time for you to read a Psalm for the wild built 🔥🐯
These TBR games always look like so much fun, but I doubt my mood reading heart would be happy if I ever attempted one, lol.
You ended up with a nice selection of books though, can't wait to hear your thoughts on all of these! And trust me, The Wall of Storms looks big, but you will 100% get sucked into it and it'll be over before you know it. SO good!! ❤🔥
Happy reading 🥰
A book that looks like Lisa Frank. That’s amazing!
🔥 I adore TBR star hop! I hope you have had a great reading month and enjoyed all those books.
I also put most of the SFF award nominated novellas on my tbr list and every now and then read one of them. So far really liked "Psalm for the wild build", and "The Past is Red" is on my kindle right now 🔥🐯
Psalm for the Wild-Built will definitely resonate with what you were talking about! It’s all about changing career paths and pondering life’s purpose. It made a big impact on me. 😊 Also curious to see what you’ll think of Reign & Ruin.
you are correct, the past is red is NOT what I told you to start with, but you have been picking up a lot of cli-fi, so at least you're on theme
I just got the trade paperback editions of The Wall of Storms and The Veiled Throne and they are so, so chunky. I can't wait until I can show them to a couple of my friends. They are readers but don't read what we do. They are always amazed about how thick most of my books are. Lol
The TBR game looks so fun, and i love the novella idea. I am trying to get back in the reading mood so I am rereading books from series I started and want to continue - Fireborne, Three Body, Memory called Empire - and maybe Stone Sky bc I have the audio (which I loved for Obelisk Gate).
🔥♥️🐅 Wall of Storms is a page turner.
I need to finally get around to The Past is Red, I love Catherynne Valente!
Found you from the KDBooks TBRTackle video and so glad! you're awesome! 👏 cool idea for a tbr board.
I am not a TBR person, but I am planning to read "Invader" in July. I am also planning to read my first Louise Erdrich: The sentence.
The Golem and The Jinni is one of my favorite books. Hope you like it.🤞
🔥❤️🐅mood reading, but feeling like re-reading Arturo Perez-Reverte Capitan Alatriste series. Have a great 4th!
A lot of these sound really good. I hope you have a great reading month.
I'm excited to hear how your Novella project goes. I still need to read The Past Is Red to finish all of the novellas.
🔥 💜 🐅
The TBR game looks fun!
Hey there! I’m reading nothing new…..nothing! This year is dedicated to reading what I already own, which has been really good, but it’s hard to resist all the awesome books I hear about. Thx for sharing!💚
🔥♥️🐯
I liked Psalm, and Elder Race. Neither were new all time favorites but I enjoyed them.
I’m participating in Jane Austen July - kinda 😂 I’m reading Persuasion with friends and looking at a few nonfiction books and JA inspired fantasy.
Other than that I’m trying some short classics that sound summer-y … giving myself permission to DNF if they aren’t what I’m hoping!
I hope that July ends up being a Sci fi month.I want to finish The Lost World and reread Dune 🔥
Omg so excited to see your thoughts on The Golem and the Jinni! It is such a wonderful story.
I just read A Psalm for the Wild-Built and I loved it, so I'm hoping to read A Prayer for the Crown-Shy this month. I requested it from the library, so I hope it comes in this month. I'm also excited to read Catherine Asaro's new book The Jigsaw Assassin, which I plan to buy as an e-book on Tuesday. I'd also like to get to Hellspark by Janet Kagan, which I've been trying to read for the past few months. I'd also like to read Starfall by Melissa Landers since I enjoyed the first book. And I'm hoping to get to The Dimensioneers by Doris Piserchia, which is only about 175 pages long, so I should be able to fit it in to my schedule. I'm reading Forerunner Foray by Andre Norton now, which I was hoping to read last month.
Crossing my fingers you manage to read Bonehunters so you can get the amazingness of Wall of Storms
I just finished Kushiel's Chosen and am already burning to read Kushiel's Avatar (truly underrated series) but I have to read Her Majesty's Royal Coven because I have to return it to the library soon. But for real, Kushiel's Legacy is SO good. Ilove the writing, the characters, the romance! (Fave m/f couple in like ever) the world building, the political intrigue. Sorry, just needed to gush a little, still emotional.❤️🔥🐯
Aw I love Stephanie’s channel n (found it recently lol) TBR games are so much fun 🤩
Looks like you got a good TBR! Far Sector looks cool I’ve never heard of it!
Happy reading to you!! 🎥🎬🎼
I'm so intrigued to hear what you think of C.J Cherryh. She was recommended to me but I haven't taken the deep dive yet. Looking forward to your review!
I am currently reading the bone orchard now, not too far into it, but I am very interested so far. I also decided to read the novellas and the novels of the hugo awards, just recently. I have only read the psalm for the wild built out of the novellas and I read that last year. I loved it enough to preorder the second one, so that's saying something. I decided to do the novels too since I realized I had already read three of them and I owned the other three. Seems like it was meant to be.
Bonehunters was among my favorites out of Book of the Fallen. I’ve got to get around to a the Dandelion Dynasty! I hear good things.
🔥
You picked some chunky ones this month! I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts on them. Also, yes, that one novella looks like a Lisa Frank folder 🤣🤣🤣 🔥🔥🔥
This was so fun!! I love your mini game 😊 i love The Golem and the Jenni! I can't wait to hear your thoughts.
🔥❤️🐯 I just started Shadow of Night the second book in the All Souls series which is a big book for me. If I get that done I am thinking about reading The Keeper of Night next. Both are physical books I own. But I am sure I will through in some KU books as well. Good luck on your stack.
The Wall of Storms!!! You have to read it, it's my favorite in the series so far! I tried to find And What Can We Offer You Tonight and can only find the Kindle... but I want a physical copy of that gorgeous book!
♥ Hi Dr. Angela, I have zero insights to offer on all but one of the books you have in mind for July, and the one I do, is - A Psalm For The Wild-Built. Reading this novella was a properly joyful thing for me, and it would be awesome if you get something similarly uplifting from it.
⚔️ I am finishing Ed McDonald's “The Raven's Mark” trilogy in July, and then moving on to a Readalong of A.K.Larkwood's “The Unspoken Name”! 🔥 Agreed on the cost per page of novellas. I buy so many books yet choke over the thin novella types.
I'm excited for you to read The Golem and the Jinni. I finally read it this year and it's one of my favourite books!
I hope you have better luck than me with Fireheart Tiger 😅 - I just read it 2 days ago and gave it 2 stars 😅 I found the characterization to be utterly shallow (even for a novella) and _"good guys are exclusively good and bad guys are exclusively bad"_ vibes just doesn't work for me 😅 Although, I need to be fair and say that Fireheart Tiger was a total cover pick (and the fact that my library had it available), so it is partially my own fault. I will still pick up the Tea Master and the Detective since that one actually sounds interesting to me, but I will temper my expectations.
On the positive side, I just finished the Ruin of Kings yesterday, and I enjoyed it so much that I immediately continued with the second book. While Kihrin is a hard sell for me and not a type of character I like, the superb narrators and interesting narrative choices (I found Thurvishar's "Um, actually" quite funny 😂) salvaged the character for me. Also, _all_ of the female chars in it I love (also Talon! Talon is so much fun)! I don't know if I could pick a favorite, tbh.
And the first narrator in the second book, the one writing the records? Her sass is through the roof and I love her already 😁
