I am new to Contemporary Romance genre this year (2024). But i have read 15 of them. I really love Christina Lauren's books - especially Love and Other Words and The Unhoneymooners. I also liked The Deal by Elle Kennedy (first book in a series), and loved Icebreaker by Hannah Grace (Wildfire is the second book and i am reading it right now.
I really liked The Seven Year Slip. I did not like The Beach read (I found the female main character both annoying super repetitive.. she acted like her world was ending every time the male character was quiet or he said something different or even just gave her a different look). The Beach Read was the first book i read by Emily Henry. I do have 2 more to try..

Last time I checked a library shelf is just a collection of books. Whether it has another meaning to you, is in you. Don’t force your ideals on other ppl. Some people like doing this to mimic an actual library, where they have various options to choose from at their convenience when they want to pick up a book. Besides you won’t know if you liked a book or not until you’ve read it, so whether you choose to buy one at a time or multiple won’t make a difference at the end of the day.

  • @dominikriegler

First of all, sure you can buy books all you want, no problem.
But I wonder: Are you buying them just to fill your shelves, or are you genuinely interested in reading all of them?
Most of us have at most 10 new unread books at home (according to our TBR), which are going to be read after finishing the current book. Depending on our mood after finishing the current book, we choose one of these 10 books accordingly. Therefore the variety of 10 different books (at most!). Although 10 are plenty, 5 or even 1 are also more than enough.
But 100+ books kind of make it seem you buy them for "aestetics" only.
Which definitely defeats the purpose of reading at all.
Anyway if you are really capable of reading a book a day, then go for it.
Finishing 100 books seems like a tough goal. Deactivate your social media to stay focused and get into the reading marathon you planned for yourself regarding these books. Keep reading!

    • @raelol1499
      @raelol1499 5 месяцев назад +32

Obviously she’s actually interested in reading them if she just recently purchased them and has already finished so many of them, some within the span of just a couple days. Not to mention that the ones she hasn’t read yet, she’s researched enough to know that she WILL actually read them, it wasn’t an impulsive purchase, she researched them enough to know the plot/genres/tropes, which order to read them, and which people recommended them while comparing their preferences to hers. It isn’t overconsumption if you actually get genuine use out of all the items.

For lit-fic, contemporary, romance and/or as a subplot:
    - Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter (I rarely ever read YA romance so the fact that I gave this 5 stars, I love them so much).

    - Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler
    - Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors

    - Strange the Dreamer duology by Laini Taylor
    - the Elements of Cadence duology, A River Enchanted and A Fire Endless, by Rebecca Ross (she also wrote Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows, the Letters of Enchantment)
    - Fear the Flames by Olivia Rose Darling
    - Tres of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Samderson
    - Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

This is the book equivalent of fast fashion. What the heck. Only two minutes in and of the four books you showed us, two are special editions of the first two. This is just another case of overconsumption being glorified. We have real libraries if you want to be around a lot of books. You can check out a reasonably sized pile without spending hundreds of dollars and without cluttering your home.
Edit: I’m highly amused. You put something on the internet, you’re going to get opinions. And my opinion is that overconsumption is a problem in every community. If you don’t see it then you don’t see it. All I know is, my life (and wallet) were a whole lot happier when I realized this and become a more conscious consumer. My rule of thumb is to wait a month before buying something that can be classified as a “want.” If I still want it after a month then I will get it. If I only wanted it because it was trendy and/or I thought it would momentarily feel good, then I didn’t really want it. But that’s me. Take it as you will.

Debbie downer much? You too can reduce over consumption by only buying used items. So please stay out of the stores and buy nothing firsthand, otherwise you are just glorifying over consumption. And a friendly reminder… goods and services make the world go round; so if no one’s purchasing them, then no one‘s going to produce them.

I think a home library is a mixture of storage for your hobby and home decor. It’s no different than buying decor and art for your house. But in this case, the books serve a multipurpose because they are used. And anyone with a hobby likes to organize it or display it…for example, baseball cards, lego sets, art paintings, etc. Readers enjoy reading their favorites multiple times. You live only once; if books in your home make you happy, then that’s what you should buy. You can’t take money to the grave with you.

I agree the overconsumption is a big problem, but she already knows what types of books she wants to read, and she went and bought the books she wanted to have at her home. She doesn’t have a home filled with book like most book tubers, in her case I really don’t see it as a big problem. Let her enjoy her book journey, and lets see how she does with book buying after this big book buy before criticizing her for it.

lol almost all of your physical tbr books are on my physical tbr haha! we have very similar tastes :)
    - book lovers by emily henry is sosososo gooood omfg maybe top tier read of my year so far!
    - seven husbands of evelyn hugo made my jaw drop at the plot twist
-six of crows is just an amazingly written fantasy book
    - the shatter me series is very popular (aaron warner is everyone's book bf apparently lol)
    - you probably don't need anymore books anytime soon but I recommend:
    * divine rivals by rebecca ross
    * the housemaid series by freida mcfadden (if you want to get into the mystery-thriller genre)
    * a good girl's guide to murder series (same reason as above, super popular)
    * read the caraval series before the once upon a broken heart series since it takes place in the same universe (ppl online say caraval enhances the once upon a broken heart reading experience)

There are guides on the interwebs as to how to do the tandem read. A lot of people do like to read the ‘Chronological’ order by reading Assassins Blade first and some people like to read Assassins Blade last. Only you can really make the decision because people will never agree on the ‘best’ order.

  • @tanishqapunia

Okay so no doubt you've read these by now but if anyone else has similar queries, here it is. Read the Throne of Glass series first and don't worry about the novellas, you can leave it till last or just read them in release order. Personally, I feel like even if novellas are set before the series, it's just much more raw and fun to read it when you know all the things that go wrong in the future or like it gives you an insight into their past which is typically concealed in books for creating an intrigue about the character and the plot. It's a very good series, the first book is about an assassin who gets captured and is given a chance at freedom but the entire series is about so much more. It's very political, there's a tyrant ruler, ban on magic, lost princess, witches and fae, different kingdoms and alliances and many, many stories intertwined. ACOTAR was written after and it's pretty good too. Again the first book is about a human girl who is in unfamiliar surroundings (against her will) and learns to navigate her new life in a new realm, but the series is again, much more than that. Crescent City is modern take on all the elements of the other books, so we have witches, angels, fae and a lot more, and its modern-day colonialism essentially. All 3 series are connected in the best possible way. I don't want to spoil it but I recommend reading the series in release order.

anyways, i usually have different annotations key for different book series but definitely depends on what the book is about! for fourth wing and iron flame - in addition to romance/tension and plot twists, i have tabs for character/world building, dragon information, funny moments, sad moments and scenes i like. i guess it really depends on what you want to tab!!
also, I AM DYING TO FIND A BOOKCLUB IN SYD 😩

I would recommend reading the Shadow and Bone trilogy before going into Six of Crows, it's in the same universe and I loved it because some of the characters reappear 🥹

Getting so many books by the same author when you haven’t even read a sample to check if you like their writing… kind of insane ngl.

Honestly some people treat reading more seriously than others. If you treat reading as a casual hobby then you’ll read whatever interests you and stop reading it if you dont like it so far. If you view reading as more of a study like I do then you approach it differently… even if I don’t like a book, I finish reading it anyways, taking annotations and notes along the way so I can write an accurate review. So for some people, not liking a writing style or a book isn’t a waste, it’s still worth reading to consume the media and form an opinion.

@@raelol1499 I was talking in reference to hoarding. If I'm unsure about an author or book, I would rather still give it a chance via ebook, personally. You can still make annotations and even write a review about it if you prefer to organize your thoughts and share them, but it leaves space in your life for books that won't end up unread or quickly shown again in an "unhauling" video. The discussion not only revolves around reading, but the way conssumerism affects how we engage with it.

@@cande9023 your original comment said that it’s “insane” to buy a bunch of books if you don’t know if you’ll like the writing style, I’m telling you that some people get genuine use out of books whether they actually like them or not, so it isn’t a waste. Some people prefer physical copies over electronic copies, and that’s fine. I’ll never download an e-book in my life lol, but every book I’ve read (whether I enjoyed the actual novel itself or not) I keep in my library, because anyone who visits my house may enjoy it more than I did and get good use out of it while they’re here. Not everything is considered hoarding, some things are just collections.

@raelol1499 The word "insane" in that context, followed by the informal use of "ngl", denotes hyperbole. I did not believe I had to clarify I was doubting anyone's mental faculties, but here I am. And I stand by what I said, because there is limited space available, and personally, I believe it is more useful to collect meaningful objects rather than whatever catches the eye first. Besides, even if someone wanted to collect all the books they read physically (I read about one book every two days, so it would be impossible for me since, again, limited space), buying one to check you will want to continue a series or explore an author further still seems like a better, more sensible idea.
We can agree to disagree, however.

@@cande9023 I’m aware that it was hyperbole which is why I put quotations around it, because insane was the word that was technically used but not what was actually meant in the context of the sentence. By insane you meant more along the lines of “not really something you should do”, right? Then my point still stands, just because it wouldn’t be a good choice for you doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a good choice for others, because to some of us it doesn’t matter if we like the writing style or not, we collect books to study and will enjoy the reading process even if we don’t like the book itself. I’m not really sure what you’re arguing at this point. You say that it’s more sensible to read the first book to see if you’ll want to continue the series, some of us will continue the series even if we don’t like the book or series in general, because we enjoy the process of reading in general, not on a book by book basis. I own over 1000 books, some I loved, some I hated, and yet I still don’t regret buying any of them and none were a waste, it would never have been a good idea for me to just buy the first novel in the series before buying the rest, because I always finish whatever I’m reading even if I dislike it.

I dont know if someone already answered you but regarding the different sizes for the books at 7:25 when a paperback first comes out its called a Trade paperback and its generally bigger but when a books been out a while they come out with Mass paperbacks and they are generally smaller. Maybe try looking for the trade paperbacks for the first two OR wait for the mass paperback to come out for the third. Enjoy reading all those books!
