    What I do find stupid is, after doing both my A2 and full licence, the test is exactly the same. Why do I have to do the same test twice just for more power. You can't use that power in a car park going around cones, it's just the government find more ways to rip off bikers, whilst I only had one test in a car and could hop into any car I could afford to insure

    • @RobBroderick44
      @RobBroderick44 6 лет назад +70

      Sam Grattan Yep the full licence test is retarded, you don't even ride bigger bikes than the A2 ones. They should put more emphasis on the road part...

    • @ridingwithsam
      @ridingwithsam 6 лет назад +44

      RobBroderick44 but even then there's no difference. You can't go any quicker in the test, and the bike I rode had alot less pick up then my restricted MT07

    • @kgsz
      @kgsz 6 лет назад +20

      This is incorrect, RobBroderick, for unrestricted A category you must ride bike more powerful than A2-compliant bike.

    • @RobBroderick44
      @RobBroderick44 6 лет назад +12

      Well, you're right, but the reality is not good looking. It depends on the school you're taking your A license. A lot won't bother and will give you the same bike (MT-07 for example) you got for the A2 training/exam. I'm not even sure the bikes are full power when you pass the A test.
      My point is, they should make an effort and lend bigger machines (like an fz-08 for example) so you can experience and harness those because, you will ultimately (for most ppl with A licence anyways) buy one.

    The license rules in England are just shit.
    Got to do a Mod 1 & mod 2 to pass your A2 in which you end up with a full license restricted, yet 2 years later you still have to do mod 1 & mod 2 AGAIN to get any bike you want.
    With car licenses you can just jump straight into any car you want..providing you can afford insurance.
    2 years after passing A2, your license should be auto derestricted

    • @otpwindblade6369
      @otpwindblade6369 3 года назад

      Bro, in Bulgaria , you have to take a theory exam and a 2 stage practical exam for A2 licence. After 2 years you have to do the same in order for you to get your A licence. But if you have a B licence already (before starting A2) you can skip the theory exams on all A categories.

    Have to admit, I'm one of the weirdos that actually really enjoyed my training and tests, I love being outside my comfort zone! I did mine a few years ago at age 39 (last time I'd ridden anything was 20 years before!). Passed it & jumped on a 1000cc second-hander the very next day, and my insurance was under £150.

      jony walabi I'm not sure about modern licensing as when I took my test it was before the law changed, all I remember is I did my CBT and theory, did a 5 day intensive course and took my full bike test, things have gotten more complicated since I passed is my understanding but I never looked into it.

    • @FinalDecap
      @FinalDecap 6 лет назад

      It's now basically; CBT > Theory ( or theory > CBT ) > mod 1 (off road handling) > mod 2 (road ride).
      That applies for going from no license to any license level and age restricts what license level you can obtain pretty much.

Back then, you did the paper test at the secretary of state and then signed up for the parking lot test. Glad I never took my cycle endorsment off my licesne lol

    Try getting through the Polish exam. There are 7 steps/tasks
    1. Check 2 randomly generated features of the bike (lights, fluids, chain) after that, pull out the bike from parking place (T shaped box) in 3 moves without crossing box lines.
    2. 5x figure 8 in 14x7 m outlined box.
    3. Slow slalom between 5 gates designated with cones.
    4. 2x fast slalom between 3 cones, the average speed between the entrance and exit gates cannot be lower than 30 km/h.
    5. Collision avoidance/Moose test. There is an obstacle in the middle of the course and you are to pass around it twice, once each side. At the entrance gate, your speed has to be at least 50 km/h.
    6. Uphill start on up to 5.5 deg. incline, the bike cannot stall or move back by 0.2 m.
    7. Stopping in designated by the examiner spot and emergency braking using both brakes both from at least 50 km/h.
    In all task, you are not allowed to
    -touch the ground once the bike is on the move until you exit the "task box",
    -hit the cones
    -cross the white lines.

    Here we have cones around the figure of 8 to limit the size, increasing the difficulty significantly. We also have to drive really slow between 2 markers for 12 seconds and also do an emergency brake test.

      Where and when was the gruesome 5 car pile-up accident that occurred because someone put their foot down whilst making a u-turn in a parking lot? The dmv wouldn’t just waste our time with a pointless test and charge us for it without reason, would it? That’s impossible. Government agencies do everything else so efficiently. 🤪

    Least you didn't do what I did on my road test (after the test centre)... Was waiting for my test while someone else did theirs and I poured myself a cup of tea from the machine, into a polystyrene cup. Problem was, cup slipped slightly, I grabbed hold of it to make sure I didn't drop it and a cup full of hot water poured over my hand. Test centre prevented me from doing the test, but I still rode the test bike 5 miles back to its base! Fun times :D

    It's really interesting to see how they handle it in the UK. When I got my A2, I wasn't put on an R3 or a little 390 Duke no Sir. Here in Deutschland, we do things proper. They put me on a BMW F650GS, the later one with the twin-cylinder (limited to 34kW to be A2 legal). Admittedly it wasn't really that hard to handle at all, the most difficult thing about the bike was the clutch at first, because we started off practicing slow maneuvers with the clutch slipping and this bike has a ridiculously heavy clutch pull. My hand was hurting at the end of each session and I couldn't pull it normally anymore at some point. Now I got a GSX-R 600 and it's so easy compared to that, also most driving schools hand you bikes like that, the ER-6n, SV-650 and MT-07 are very popular for that purpose.
    Then also our final test wasn't done on a little yard. The Instructor got in a car and you on the bike. Then you went through city traffic for a while to some random spot which was on the end of a slightly active road in an industrial complex (Brunsbütteler Damm if you're curious). Then you had to do the actual tests, like riding in a circle, the "elk test", a 90° turn, "stop and go" and a slalom of course. He didn't even ask if we could push the bike around or anything, which is probably harder than the actual riding part. I'm still a bit insecure pushing my bike backwards lol. What you had to do there in the UK is a LOT harder than what we have to do in Germany.
    I feel like the actual 300's are probably less suited as starter bikes honestly. I felt really good on the F650 even though I've never ridden before, liked it a lot. Very fuel efficient, sounded awesome (even with a stock can), torquey as hell and easy to maneuver around town (and oh god don't get me started about the heated grips, they were WONDERFUL!). It's probably easier to ride than an R3 I imagine since it's a lot harder to stall.
    But I chose to live the Supersport life and join the Gixxerclub, no regrets.

      @hennersss 4 года назад

      Interesting points here 👍
      It's actually not possible in the UK to take your A2 test on the R300 or the Duke 390 so that's a little misleading. Most schools use restricted bigger bikes, like the SV, er-6n, MT-07 like you said

    I just had my test this weekend, and although I have plenty of experience, I felt I was still a little nervous and shaky in some of the slow parts. I am very critical of myself, but seeing this makes me feel much better. I was the only one in a class of ten to get a perfect score!!! And I went first on every test throughout the evaluation!

    In the USA, car licence tests are done 100% on the open road(which is nuts). My first go at that, I went to pull out onto the road, turning left, checked left, checked right, checked left, putted half way into the road & the instructor yelled 'TRUCK!', I looked right and a truck had appeared out of nowhere and was hurtling towards us(actually, it had come out of an undulating S curve) I stopped, put the manual shift into reverse and went back into the parking lot.
    We sat there for a moment, me expecting the test to be over, but we were both still remarkably composed(disturbingly so, actually) thus, she had us carry on.
    Thus, I drove through the whole test, doing all of the bits and pieces of it.
    When we got back, she said, "Well, you did very well. You did everything perfectly, except for-"
    "When I almost killed us?"
    "Yeah, that, , , that was a problem. You'll have to come back and try again."

    I had an a2 license for year and in order to upgrade to a full cat a license had to retake theory and both tests. Failed the theory on hazard perception which is ridiculous as I rode my bike to the test centre. Promptly got on my secretly unrestricted sv650s all the way home feeling justifiably peed off. Anyway passed both my practical tests with no minor faults and got praised by the mod 1 examiner for scraping the pegs on the acceleration curve before the avoidance exercise. Cheers fucking easy. Robbing bastard government though!
